Wisconsin recall results.

As expected, Democratic state Sen. Dave Hansen of Green Bay kept his seat.. He had a deeply flawed and "underfunded" challenger. There were also 2 primaries:
[A]n Eagle River tea party activist and a Pleasant Prairie attorney won Republican primaries, bringing them into general elections against the two other Democrats still facing recall.

Kim Simac, founder of the Northwoods Patriots and owner of a riding club near Eagle River, will oppose Sen. Jim Holperin (D-Conover) in an Aug. 16 general election.
We saw a lot of Simac signs when we drove through the area the other day.

Will you be surprised if any recall elections result in a change of party?

Frankly, I would be. Maybe, Fond Du Lac...

Reddit ran this last night. It seems the candiate who had a better chance, fell short of collecting enough valid signatures to run.

So Green Bay kept one of the 10-flee-baggers ... but it was the one they had installed in the first place.

Re-calls are really getting stupid.

Kim Simac has a good chance of beating Holperin. She will be a great voice for conservatives in our statehouse. Holperin actually went to Chicago to accept the NEA's Friend of Education Award on behalf of "Fab 14". The national teachers' union said the Senators were "heroes" for running out the state rather than voting against unions.

Is this the new definition of a "hero"? If it is, what a sad commentary on our society!

@ Paminwi - Does Simac have the best chance of the 3 dem-targetting ones or is it really a 'good chance'?

I just moved from Shorewood (Darling's district) to madison, so no recall voting for me.

And here I thought you lived in the STL metro.

Can I have a quick primer from someone who knows? How many races are today/when are the others? How many are Dems trying to replace GOP'ers and vice versa?

@ Scott

Grew up there. (Kirkwood) Live here now.

I'll be back for thanksgiving, as usual. (also trying to swing a cards game before the end of the year) - I'm catching the full card-crews series at the end of august.

@ Lincoln

Several of the races wont have votes for another month (this was the point of the "fake " democrat candidates, to delay the recall vote and give more time to campaign.

One vote has happened, and the dem is safe. Remaining, there are 2 votes with democrats currently holding the seat and 6 votes with republicans currently holding the seat.

I was in St. Germain last week and the only signs I saw were for Simac, so I didn't even know who the other person running was. I also saw lots of signs for Gun Rights (very similar to yellow Don't Tread on Me signs, but unmistakably about Gun Rights).

Signs can often indicate a strong support at the grass roots.

Simac (whoever he is) may be about to do some unseating.

The same was true of my trip to Minocqua last week.

I just want the most bloggable results. So I think the (R) guy in Lacrosse might lose and make things interesting. He seems like a nice enough guy, though, so he might stick around.

There are two GOP-held seats that would not be surprising. Kapanke in the La Crosse area is as toast as can be. The dems out there just despise him, so much so that when he ran against Kind for Congress, someone torched the third base dugout where the La Cross Loggers play, because he owns the team. Hopper in Fondy may also be toast, but wouldn't be if he wasn't going through a divorce. The next most likely is Hollperin (sp?), a dem. Other switches would be a surprise.

Dan Kapanke (who I've met a couple times) is one Hell of a nice, hardworking, down to earth, reasonable, service-minded guy who was only a couple percentage points from winning the US Rep seat from Ron Kind last fall. Unfortunately, I think he's now likely (50/50?) to be replaced by someone more interested in carrying union water.

@Bushman - I was also in Minocqua last week. Again, there were Simac (and Gun Rights) signs all up and down US-51.

I'm spending the summer in that area, and Simac appears to have a lot of support -- up here. But district 12 is huge. The locals tell me that the southern (and more populated) region of the district may be more pro-Holperin.

I live in the Fox Valley. No suprise that Hansen won - i think he would have no matter who ran against him. The teachers union in this area, which includes Green Bay, is extremely active, vocal, nasty, arrogant, and willing to tell lots of lies to whomever will listen. Consider us a "Sister Madison"

Can somebody run down the names and districts of the three candidates. They should be supported and maybe teach some people a lesson.

I spend most of the summer in Vilas County, and concur that there is more visible support for Kim Simac than for Jim Holperin.

Simac and Holperin both marched in the Eagle River July 4th parade. Holperin received a smattering of boos as he passed and no applause. A group of green-shorted supporters marched behind him chanting "Thank you Jim!" in order to drown out any booing.

Simac received loud and prolonged cheers. Andy many of the floats form local businesses carried her campaign signs.

Holperin won by a small margin in an area the went for Walker. He's not going to survive the recall election.

Say no more! I'm a single-issue voter.

Corporate America is jumping all over this anti union sentiment and is now trying to KO unions even when the company is a money making machine.I'm on strike at Verizon at the moment because the company wants to take away everything the union ever bargained for.Pension, healthcare, overtime, sickdays, holidays etc.... They want it all back while the CEO's make $60 mil in salary/bonuses a year. PLease support us in this fight . Watch - http://wp.me/1sMVj

We must remember the courage and integrity of those two Republican senators who lost not just their seats but probably their political careers because they fought for freedom and justice in Wisconsin. We need more patriots like these heroes to sacrifice to restore freedom and destroy the democrat party. God Bless those brave souls!. Watch full Video - http://wp.me/1sMVj
