Millionth--comment I mean!!!!

congratulations. I think half of those page views are mine, though.

What's the ratio of comments to visits?

Just wondering...

Do I get an award for Greatest-Number-of-Comments-Being-Ignored?

Will someone please answer me?

Bloody hell, that's a lot of words being read.

You'd be right in letting it all go to your head. You know what this means, you're 4/5 the way to 50,000,000.

SukieTawdry said...

Wow, congratulations and well done! Only thing you left out was your net take. Care to share (the info, I mean)?

coketown said...

It's very gracious of you not to make a bar graph comparing your visits to those of Lawyers, Guns, and Money.

I'd still get a kick to see it, though.

David said...

Congratulations Althouse. You have flair and insight.

Admirable traits, though truth be told not all that rare.

Flair, insight and diligence? That puts you in another league.

Keep it up as long as you can stand it.

edutcher said...

Many congrats.

I know the blog must be a lot of work and the last few months haven't been fun, but you have a place in the hearts of your readers few others can match.

You've allowed us to become a part of your life and we've become a part of each other's. Give yourself a well-deserved pat on the back.

Better yet, let your sweetie give it to you.

(I'm sure he'd enjoy it)

At a certain point, you've gotten enough hits.

My Social Justice Calculator indicates that 50% of your visitors should be redirected to less-visited sites.

Just curious: when Glenn Reynolds links to you, do you get an instalanche, or does most of his readership routinely check our your blog anyway? His mention of your RBG post made me wonder.

WOW.
Congratulations- i'm looking forward to following you on the new site.

"Average Visit Length 3:15"

How are they figuring this? It's not like we have to log in and out to read the page...

Don't forget: Blogger moderators despise success!

CONGRATULATIONS

All while being true to yourself without compromise. Good job.

Ann Althouse said...

"How are they figuring this? It's not like we have to log in and out to read the page..."

If you come in and don't go to any other page, it will get averaged at 0:00, which isn't actually true. When you click to another page, they get a data point, and that's how you get numbers other than 0:00.

Ann Althouse said...

My visit length is as high as it is because people click into the comments and produce that extra data point that many blogs don't get.

If you multiply average number of visits per day times visit length, you will have a hard time finding any other blog with a higher number. There's a good chance I'm number 1 but that standard.

Ann Althouse said...

by that standard.

PaulV said...

ANN, your viewers are #1. You owe it all to us little people

Brad said...

There's good news and bad news ....

The Good News is the blog is wildly successful.

The Bad News .... the anchor/archive all those visits & views have created are delaying your departure from Blogger ....

Seriously, though - congrats for being consistently interesting !!!!!!!

AllenS said...

Put out a good product, consumers will show up. It's that simple.

caplight said...

Congratulations to Ann and now Meade. It is a privilege to be a part of the Althouse Blog family, as dysfunctional, screwed up and weird as we are.

I'm Full of Soup said...

Wow congrats! Btw- have you analyzed what the new domain will cost when you have 40,000 visitors per day and the average stay is 3 minutes? I am not a techie but that sounds like it could be a lot of bandwdth.

Edutcher @2:37 express my thoughts better than I could have...

Professor,thank you for your work

thank you to the commenters. I've been shocked, provoked, challenged. But I cherish the times I have laughed.

I didn't think there was math on this blog-

Are the numerous numbers a good thing?

damn, it's hot

Anonymous said...

Congrats, Prof. Your blog is more open and more welcoming than any of the elite media (SullyAndy, Daily Kos, TPM, Ezra J. Klein). Why is that? Why is your blog open but not theirs, even whey they are talking about open govt. This is a mystery. What do others think?

Congratulations.

If you then added in all the pages of student homework you had to read ... what list would stack into a greater pile?

Nobody ever gives teachers enough credit for all the heavy lifting they have to do ... sorting through student tests and answers.

We're just lucky you have effort left over to spare.

While off to the side, this was hosted by Google for free. (Blogger being Google, that is.)

It's wonderful what the Internet offers!

And, one reason for all the views ... is that people bought computers. And, connectivity happened when the technology zoomed.

People who haven't been here to see this have lost out.

Ah! And, that it's in English!

Let's not take it for granted that one language ... ours ... has circumferenced the world.

coketown said...

I'll be honest. I came for the Instapundit link, I stayed for Titus, and I refresh constantly for Carol Herman. I <3 you Carol.

The Crack Emcee said...

For all my criticisms, that's quite the accomplishment, and I wholeheartedly salute you - with no jealousy what-so-ever:

You do yourself proud, and I'm just really happy to be a part of it, however minor.

Congratulations, "bloggress" Ann Althouse.

Trooper York said...

Hey congratulations.

It's no wonder so many bunnies visit your garden.

Hey, BTW - some of you millions of bastards need to get over here, too!

I know, I know:

"Crack, you really need to work on your delivery,..."

Randy-g said...

Congrats young lady! a few of those visits were me...Heh.

somefeller said...

Nice work. Too bad you're going to outsource the blog to the Swedes, but such is the nature of the global economy.

Elliott A said...

Just curious, how many unique visitors, what percentage of those comment? Is this knowable? I believe I hold the record for the most comment streams ended, probably not what you need to get the next 40 million more quickly.

Thank you for your efforts.

I offer my most sincere congratulations to Ann Althouse.

The success of her blog is no accident. She worked for it. She had a goal. Apparently, she achieved it...thus far.

I know I'm hard on Alhouse at times-but not Ann personally.

Althouse the law professor-

As she pushes back on her students and her readers to make them better, we too must push back on the professor to make her better when appropriate.

P.S.: can we have more Hippy Fridays?

Lincolntf said...

Congratulations! Bet you never expected (though you maybe hoped) that you'd ever have such a large and broad fan base.

Kudos Professor. You are the Bobby Jones of Blogging: a sweet swing, a good temperament and the only Grand Slam winner in Blogging history. Will you now start a Masters of Blogging invitational tournament. We do appreciate your fine writing and insightful mind.

O! Ann! Add on the photography!

It's always such a surprise to see what you focus on with your camera's eye!

If we had a revolution. And, that revolution was TECHNOLOGY ... which is at the core, here ...

Then you made the most of it!

It's been such a pleasure!

Heck, you brought Madison onto the map!

You gave Justice Prosser a fair shot.

You saw Kloppenhoppen "trot."

You tapped into this technology like nobody's business!

Just WOW!

I wonder how your traffic compares to all the other blogs on blogger. I wouldn't be surprised if that didn't have something to do with why it has turned out so difficult to extract your archives. Maybe they really do not want you to leave.

Nice - one of the best blogs in the blogosphere, richly deserving of its exalted place. Rational thought and commentary is quite widely enjoyed, it seems.

I rarely comment, but I've enjoyed reading your blog for the last several years, and I thank you for creating it. And I thank all the commenters for adding their particular flavors.

mirabile dictu (adverb; lat.) "Wonder to relate"; incredible.

Here is a question for which, mirabile dictu, I don't have the answer. It is: How much freedom should a college student be given to write what he wishes?

William Frank Buckley Junior wrote the above, in his artistically advanced (because of the physical dimensions of the book at minimum) "cornucopia of wonderful words for the inquisitive word lover".

What I want to know is the law, specifically, when Buckley said "Your honor, how should I answer a question that stupid?" did he receive special consideration because he was WFB?

And, more pertinant and possibly important, how much can I quote Buckley, in order to advance conservatism, without having NRO sue me?

I want to start a website, called either "MOREBUCKLEY" or "WHATWOULDBUCKLEYDO" or something along those line. It is to be completely nonobjective, and in fact as hagiographic as my limited skills allow and the format will permit. Of course, this potentially involves lots of Buckley quotes, I.P. rights, and witticism information I haven't paid for, but simply want to expound on.

Guildofcannonballs said...

Here they are:

http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=25241

Ann Coulter had reason to believe William F. Buckley behaved like scum, based on my intuition on some things of Ann I've read. It was with regards to a good man named Joe.

A consequetial and influential man, Joe was hurt immensely by WFB, and Annie C. saw it, from what I believe to be true based on a memory, loaded. Her obituary shows more wisdom than most symbols of wisdom.

James Rosen is the best columnist you haven't heard of, mainly because he is a TV reporter and not a columnist.

Here's why he should be a columnist more widely read:

As both a fool and crazy, every single fiber in my being is urging me to simply again cut and paste the url to James Rosen's "Bill Buckley, Playboy, and the Stuggle for the Soul of America" via Real Clear Politics circa July 30th, 2008.

What's remarkable to me is the perseverance. Day in, day out, every day. Like Cal Ripken, except more impressive.

I did a blog, briefly. I think I'm a manic-depressive blogger. Lots of posts for a week or so. Got out everything I wanted to say. And I was done.

You keep hitting it, over and over. It's very impressive.

Instapundit calls in pinch-hitters.
(Including Althouse).

Wonder Woman. All you need is a lasso that forces people to tell the truth. Which, come to think of it, you might have. Holy crap.
