Yes, that's what you're doing, the question is why. Many politicians & celebrities have strayed, but really what kind of person is interested in the intimate details. Would you watch a video of the act? How about if Newt was the male lead? Ugh, it's really revolting and way too much information.
Um, Professor Althouse - why did you bother to pass it along? Isn't it bad enough that the NY Daily News did? I'm sorry all y'all but I just have ZERO TOLERANCE for celebrity gossip.
I'd rather see a video of Newt having sex than a video on his birth. Have you seen the head on that guy? His poor mother... People teased Ted Kennedy about his noggin, but holy cow, Newt must have him beat.
I wonder if Arnold could palm Newt's head like a basketball in his long hands.
I'm a Republican, but I would never have voted for Arnold Schwarzenegger, for a variety of reasons.
But I love most of his movies and like all of them. One of my favorite pastimes is listening to DVD movie commentaries that feature Arnold. Total Recall and Terminator 3 are the two best commentary tracks as far as Arnoldisms go. The Blu-ray of Total Recall doesn't have the commentary, though.
I'm passing it along to make a point about sexual harassment. (Note the tag.) There's a long disquisition I could go into, but I like to think you will see it on your own. But I'll add this, since I can see you've gotten on the track of saying Althouse is just passing along scurrilous gossip and she knows it.
Here's the discussion I'm trying to start: If a higher-up in the workplace makes sexual moves toward employees, some of them may like it and respond (as may have been the case with Mildred and Arnold). You might then say: There is no problem other than the offense to Arnold's own family. But think about why it's a problem in the workplace. It hurts the women who don't like it, and it isn't fair for the worker who likes it to win favor in the workplace because she does.
This would be a quite different situation from that of an office. The maid might be the only employee in that position, it is possible no other employees knew about it and so forth.
In an office, if one admin enjoyed being groped and everyone knew it, it would present ethical issues. this is all aside from the issue of the man's wife and kids being wronged.
Schwartzenegger posed naked. And, his fingers aren't the only thing "long." But thin. And, really, who cares? Except for one thing! The press kept quiet.
And, Maria? Maybe, she was happy when she didn't have to service him? Isn't the "old wife excuse" ... Not tonight, dear, I have a headache.
California is in the "state of Greece," now. Busted. Bankrupted. And, jobs have flown away. The housing market is in the toilet. And, with gas prices high, you get clobbered just when you "drive to work."
As to the Kennedy's, they are so yesterday!
Politically speaking, as Mark Steyn said: We have a sewer that runs straight into the left's faculty lounges. You think being marinated in that crap will work ahead?
You don't wonder why Kloppenhopper is going with a hostile approach? What else can they all do, to gum up the works?
Oh, by the way, Rose Kennedy was not happy, either. In revenge, for her decades of absue, when old Joe had a stroke ... at Hyannis Port. Rose walked out the door and took a 3 mile (or 3 hour) hike. When she came back, doctors had not been called! No employee would dare do anything they weren't ordered to do.
Joe, who lost half his body movements to the stroke, complained loudly to Rose, that she caused the stroke to do so much harm. And, the good catholic woman replied, "no, this is God's revenge."
They deserved each other. And, ditto for Maria. And, ALL the illegitimate children arnuld spritzed around. I wonder if the divorce, now, hasn't been done, to keep the Kennedy's financial treasure out of the reach of the maid's lawyer(s). And, who knows who else?
Not to say that Arnold wasn't a douchenozzle. I don't have anything good to say about anyone who would cheat on their wife. She can take him to the cleaners. What does he care? He already has more money than he knows what to do with.
Plus you suck at gossip. If you want to gossip about some juicy stuff lets start a thread about the "Real Housewives of New Jersey."
That is much more revalent to American Society than this California nonsense.
It has everything. Bankruptcy. Foreclosures. Family fueds. Sex. Drugs. Rock and Roll.
Shut off the victrola with the Bob Dylan records, put your copy of Catcher in the Rye on the bookshelf, shut off the Woody Allen retrospective on PBS and wake up in 2011.
Well I hope that you are at least hinting at the idea that the woman (Mildred? Really?)has some moral agency in this affair.
Yes, I get that there is a big power imbalance between movie star/politician and domestic servant, but working (and living?) with/for someone (Maria Shriver)for years while raising a child fathered by her husband?
That's not really a very honorable thing to do, is it? (Even if your choices are difficult & economically constrained.)
I hate to be the voice of reason here but maybe she loved him. Maybe she gave him something that the cold skinny supercilious prententous Kennedy did not provide. A warm and loving embrace by a woman of bountous charms who reminded Arnold of the love of his Austrian mama.
Here's the discussion I'm trying to start: If a higher-up in the workplace makes sexual moves toward employees, some of them may like it and respond (as may have been the case with Mildred and Arnold).
Conflicting stories on that. I've read that Maria, while married, told friends she pursued Arnold. Not that excuses the behavior of either of them ... this is adultery straight up and has little to do with the fact she was employed by the family.
I feel sorry for the kids involved; but I don't buy that Shriver had no clue. My humble opinion of course.
Funny though how this is getting pages of media scrutiny while Spitzer walked away with a show on CNN.
Well, FWIW, Professor, the thought did cross my mind about the abuse of power. But then the housekeeper enjoyed the attention, so there was a consenual aspect.
So when is something harassment and when is it "having fun?" {<-- in? or out?}
How in the world is a guy supposed to know? (Assuming he's a guy who doesn't mind sex outside of marriage. Some men and women actually care about that kind of boundary.)
Regardless, I think the press ought to leave her alone and not make mincemeat out of her. She and her current boyfriend may smell $$, but in the long run does anyone care about the kid?
She is exposing herself to a lot of ridicule as well. Not good for one's long term emotional well being.
By the way -- speaking of hands -- did you check out Drudge?
educther you are sadly mistaken my good man. Blogs about reality shows often get 500 comments a post without mentioning Sarah Palin or birth certificates. Here we had a wonderful season of American Idol that was a lot of fun and it was almost totally ignored by the blogger lady. Now the pumpkinheaded Randy Travis voice kid is gonna cruise to victory without it be acknowledged by this blog in anyway.
Blogging about American Idol was one of the things that distinguished this blog from the other oh so boring legal blogs. You can't forget your roots.
That Arnold Schwarzenegger is a crude jerk has been well-known for a very long time and can hardly have been a surprise to either his wife or any other woman he was likely to come into contact with.
This is not news and need not have been exploited in this much detail, especially since Ahrnold is done in politics and do not matter anymore.

Sounds like that's where Ann would like this discussion to go. Everyone should have the opportunity to be groped by their boss, and feel free to either reject his advances without penalty, or sleep their way to success. Aren't those who choose not to participate in sex-for-perks only harming themselves?
The obvious point is that sex has no place in employer-employee relationships, regardless of how convenient it is.
You can discuss the varying responses in the workplace to horndog supervisors. What is more salient is the varying responses of wives to horndog husbands. It seems to me that Arnold's big mistake was not in weinerschnitzling the housekeeper but in marrying a woman who takes such a judgemental stand on these actitvities. I would have expected better from a Kennedy woman. If he had married a woman like Hillary, Mrs. DSK, or Mrs. Spitzer, all this trouble could have been avoided. I think Mrs. DSK should be the role model for all wives of powerful men. I admire the way she literally flew to his side after the rape accusation....In sickness and in health, for better or for worse. There's a woman who takes her marriage vows seriously.
Ann, I think this has less to do with workplace relations and more to do with the emotional needs in a marriage and whether or not they are being met.
Arnold in 1997 when this started arguably could have had any woman he wanted. Yet he finds what appears to be a close relationship with a really frumpy maid. Lots of psychological issues to explore there.

If you read my comment again, you'll see that my point about sexual harassment is that it affects the whole workplace. One employee wins favorable treatment at the expense of others, some of whom might feel that they ought to go along with sexual things in order to succeed. The whole place is infected.
Take Monica Lewinsky for example. She and Pres. Clinton had their consensual fun together. But what about the other people in that workplace. And Lewinsky got high level help getting placed in a great job. It's not fair to others.
"Ann, I think this has less to do with workplace relations and more to do with the emotional needs in a marriage and whether or not they are being met. Arnold in 1997 when this started arguably could have had any woman he wanted. Yet he finds what appears to be a close relationship with a really frumpy maid. Lots of psychological issues to explore there."
You can talk about adultery if you want. It's a very interesting subject. I was focusing on the use of the workplace to find you sexual partners. That's a separate matter. It can be adulterous or not. But it's an important topic too.
"You can discuss the varying responses in the workplace to horndog supervisors. What is more salient is the varying responses of wives to horndog husbands."
"Ann, I think this has less to do with workplace relations and more to do..."
You look at a story and you somehow know what it "is" about... one thing more than another thing. It seems to me that you just have a preference about what angle you want to take because it fits with other things you like to think and talk about. Talk about what you like, but you have not persuaded me that the thing I want to talk about is not the thing to be talked about.
Arnold's home may be where she worked but I wouldn't call it a "workplace." The White House, on the other hand, is a workplace. Has a domestic employee ever successfully sued a homeowner for sexual harassment?
Once the government decides your home is a workplace, you can say goodbye to incandescent light bulbs.
It goes to show that Ahnuld isn't truly a Kennedy. He fucked the help, but he didn't drown her afterwards.
What is it about Kennedys and water? JFK used to do "Fiddle" and "Faddle" (his and Pierre Salinger's interns) in the White House Pool. Just when he was ready, he'd duck their heads underwater -- made 'em clench up nice and tight.
The truly delightful thing is that the nation's ever-vigilant journalists knew all about it, but decided that hoi polloi had no "right to know."

If you're passing that sort of thing along, I hope everything gets washed first.
PS Ya think?

Here's the kid's photo. When did Maria start to get suspicious. Enquiring minds want to know!

@Jason Never saw that before, but the non-femaleness of that singer is obvious from the first glimpse of the legs.
If she liked it was it harassment or a job perk?
This makes Tiger's divorce look like
a bargain! Schwarzenegger split set
to cost Arnold $400m as Shriver
hires A-list lawyer
Must be the most expensive poontang Arnold ever had.
I thought it was a man in that video also Althouse but I believe she is actually a WOMAN baby.
Nevermind, it's a "shim"
Mildred also got her tits done, I think.
Either she got them done or they are really big.
Not that I really care about any of this.
Sex should be private. I don't need to hear about anyone's sexual exploits.
Keep it to yourself please.
I am just glad that TN pubes voted that teacher can't say gay in school anymore.

It's not at all about sexual harassment. It's about a man and a woman having an apparently consensual affair.

The rare clumber and I walk along Picnic Point almost everyday.
We stop by an area where he just lounges in the water.
I am thankful to hear that bikers will no longer be able to bike the path.
Tits.
Starting the conversation here, and not at Monica Lewinsky?
Mildred Pierced
I always had the feeling that if you were married to Maria Shriver you would rather stick into anything else even a freaking pencil sharpener.
That one foul skinny skanky bitch.
Plus it was instant karma. Kennedy Karma.
Not to say that Arnold wasn't a douchenozzle. I don't have anything good to say about anyone who would cheat on their wife. She can take him to the cleaners. What does he care? He already has more money than he knows what to do with.
It reminds me of the discussion you had with Matt Welch on the different directions feminism took in France and America.
Introducing the term "sexual harassment" into a situation in which no one was (apparently) harassed sounds like the American-style.

Women and their workplace fetish.
Why aren't there any women who want to sing:
Take this job and shove it
I don't work here any more
The workplace is the last fucking place in the world I want to be. I want to be in some place where the women want the men to grab them by the ass.
I'm passing along what The Daily News passes that along.
Well, isn't that magnanimous of you?
