You've got a job and a blog that you love. You're healthy (or else you're really faking it with the skating, skiing, etc), and you've got one big plus you did not expect two years ago - MeadeMan - out of the blue, love - yeah, you're pretty lucky.
As long as health stays good, age truly doesn't matter. You'll have fun being a vibrant, lively, beautiful woman in her 60's. You are a great ambassador for living life well. Happy Birthday. I have my 63rd coming up in 4 days and it amuses me to be as old as I am and not feel old at all.
Glad you reached 60 with a lot of accomplishments behind you and ahead of you, happy, and in good health.
Many more decades of the same.
Rdkraus covered the "landscape" pretty good, but I'll add the at times stunning photos you've done as something else to be very happy about. (Something has to capture the "landscape" in memory, after all....pics+words is a good combo)
Like yourself, both my mother and my mom-in-law still look incredibly beautiful post-50's. I think the mix of humor, with a desire to keep intellectually and physically engaged, is the real "Fountain of Youth". Thanks for being an inspiration to the nearly 50-year old, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Thanks to you and the Meadester for demonstrating to many on this blog that 60 really is the high summer of life.
With 60 barely visible in my rear-view mirror, I have only three suggestions beyond the usual hedonistic ones.
a) Find yourself a place and a coach where you can lift free weights, not machines. Even beginning now, weightlifting will at ten or fifteen quality years to your life. You may die at the same age, but you'll have squared off the curve of decline.
b) Begin to think of each decade in your life as a month in the year, and each three days of that month as one year. You are at the beginning of August. On the appropriate 'season of life' day each year, take some time to savor where you are, enjoying the delights of that day and reminding yourself to do the same with life.
c) Don't be shy about doing something allegedly outrageous for your age. I'm 62, and in a couple of weeks there's an adopted newborn coming into our lives. My school-age grandchildren are delighted. Find something equally out of the standard stodgy pattern for yourselves ... and dive into it.
I look forward to celebrating the Silver Anniversary of your 60th birthday.
I'm a new daily "subscriber" to your blog, but have been familiar with you through Instapundit. You seem like a lovely lady. Happy Birthday and thanks for brightening my day with your information, insights, and humor.
Actually, 57 is the new 39, but 64 is the new 40. 60 is 3C, but people unfamiliar with hexadecimal won't really get it, so, let's say it's somewhere between 39 and 40. I trust that's all the computer engineering blather you need for today. Happy Day!
Happy birthday. Now you know for certain that you will not die young. You look lovely and alive. It's no big thing to reach the age of sixty, but to reach that age with a sense that the possibilities of life and love have not been exhausted is something special. Congratulations to you and Meade for writing an episodic chapter instead of an epilogue or a footnote to your lives.
Happy birthday, Ann, and may you have many more to come.
In my family, we've developed a tradition. A local Mexican restaurant offers people a free meal on their birthday, and part of the festivities is getting your picture taken wearing a big sombrero while eating a dish of fried ice cream. In recent years, we celebrated Dad's 70th birthday there and last year, my 50th. One time a few years back my kid brother got to wear the sombrero while visiting from New York. It looks silly, of course, but of such things are memories made.
One of my daughters is 31 today and my grenddaughter turned 9 months.
The Hall of Fame NBA player Dominique Wilkins is 51 today. When he found out twenty years ago that my daughter shared his birthday he gave her his autograph
Happy Birthday & Many More! Same day as my mother (she's 78). When I was a kid, we made homemade ice cream to celebrate her day, keeping up a tradition that her mother started. We used snow to chill the cannister in the ice cream maker.
Have a wonderful day, Ann! I feel like I live vicariously through you and Meade. I love raising my children, but I also look forward to the adventures that await my husband and me in a decade or so. Your love story is magical. Thank you for sharing bits with us! And thank you for this site - one of only two I check every day and throughout the day.
That reminds me of the birthday song from college:
(sung like a funeral dirge)
Happy Birthday (stomp) Oh, Happy Birthday (stomp) People dying everywhere Sickness, sorrow and despair On your Birthday (stomp) Oh, Happy Birthday (stomp) One day closer to your death
Happy birthday, Ann!!! May your look be good forever. May your interest in all things near and far never dry. May you continue shearing your curiosity and thirst for living with us for many years to come

Happy Birthday!!! You look fabulous!

No reason you shouldn't be happy.

You're my new standard for 60. I'm just behind you, slowly catching up.
Happy Birthday! Been there done that. By the way, 60 is the new 39. Have fun and enjoy the view.

Happy Birthday fellow Januarian!
I saw it on Facebook (although we are not "friends"). Happy Birthday, professor!!
In Yiddish, we say "Till a hundred and twenty (years)." So you're right in the middle! Congratulations.
By the way, what do you say to someone on his hundred-and-twentieth birthday? "Have a great day!:)"
Happy birthday! I was 51 on the 11th. Lets both have a great year!

Enjoy your day.

Many happy returns...
Look at the bright side: you're already a decade past the WAYSA stage on Roissy's dating market value test, so there's nothing more left to lose.
Happy birthday.
Peter
Happy birthday, Professor, and many more. I'm right behind you!
Flappy Birdsday two Jews.
Happy Birthday.
Have some beer and some of those mushrooms from last summer (after a good day of ice skating of course)

I'm glad the view is good, but as you've said before, always mind the rearview.
From what we've seen, the rear view is pretty good, as well, although Meade is the ultimate authority.

Hey, Crack, put up a picture of Ann as an antidote.

Happy Birthday!
The view probably looks great because your eyes are going.
Welcome to the club. Not so bad, even if it might have been fun to linger on the outside for a little while longer.
Happy Birthday! But go easy on the ice skating. A broken hip is bad on older folks.
At least that's what my doctor tells me now that I'm an older folk.
haha! As simple as it is, this posting taps on most people's fear of aging. Thanks for the insight!
Best wishes
Happy birthday. Have a shot of really good expensive whisky for me. Or tequila -- that's great for birthdays.
Has anyone actually seen Althouse and Limbaugh in the same room at the same time????
This all seems very fishy.
Happy birthday, Ann.
Happy Birthday.
Happy birthday, Professor Althouse -- and thank you for the entertainment and enlightenment I've found here.
Happy birthday!
I like to sit down on my birthday and recall all I can from each decade of my life. It's a nice antidote to "it's all going by so fast."
You look wonderfull, AA. Happy Birthday!!!
But for the mediating Meade influence, would you have gone rogue cougar by now?
Happy Birthday, Professor!!! ;)
Happy Birthday! And many more in the future.
Happy Birthday!
Keep walking. Briskly. They say it's a good thing.
Happy Birthday! Isn't it a blogging anniversary as well? Or did I miss that?
Happy Birthday!
I don't need to tell you to enjoy yourself. You've turn enjoyment into an art form (with your photography of course). Just keep doin' what your doin'.
Happy birthday! It's a great day to be sixty.
Happy birthday! Here's to 60 more!
Happy birthday! Here's to another 60 years! Oh wait. Here's to a fruitful twenty or thirty!
Happy Birthday, Professor!
Happy Birthday, Ann. I second rdkraus.
Happy Birthday!!!!
Happy Birthday Ann. It's my son's birthday today, too. He's ten.
I hope you both get as much cake as you want.
Hey Professor and lucky Meade --
Our view of you is pretty good from here, too.
Happy Day! Happy Year!

Sorry Ann.
The Democrates took your birthday cake!
They sliced it up and gave it to people who aren't fortunate enough to have a birthday today.
Happy Birthday!!! The sun is the same, in a relative way, but your older. Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.

Happy birthday.

[I'm not sure what piss and vinegar means, it's a pre-me term, but I'm sure that it's a good thing, as any hexagenarian will tell you.]
Happy birthday, professor.
Happy Birthday Ann! Hope you have many, many, many more!
Many happy returns of the day! :)
