Lincolntf said...: Fen, it's not just Althouse. I watched virtually the whole session and it was absolutely astonishing. And Coates struck me as one of the most honest men I've ever seen in such a setting. Didn't dodge a single question and was eager to be challenged. And yet every media outlet went with the Colbert non-story instead.
I think they're all scared of what they'll have to report if they broach the subject. It's a mix of political correctness, racial paternalism and just plain dishonesty that informs their choice to feign ignorance of the story.

I suspect that she's waiting to see how it shakes out a little bit more, when she sees something there that's particularly interesting and that she can write an interesting post about. I don't think that any of her readers just want to read "Hey, look what happened with that Black Panthers case." We want something spicy and layered, where half of it makes us say "I didn't think of that" and the other half just pisses us off.; 9/25/10, 2:22 PM

Agreed. Likewise, the community here gets to call her on it, esp if its a result of "political correctness, racial paternalism and just plain dishonesty that informs [her] choice to feign ignorance of the story."

Understand that I wouldn't be so cynical if Ann didn't have a history of treating one racial slur as worse than the others.

The Republicans will own the House in 6 weeks. Possibly the Senate, too. We already have more than enough evidence (Coates' testimony) to start an inquiry once we have the power.
Even Nixon and Clinton weren't punished until years after the initial infraction, but they both still got nailed during their own Administrations.
