I took the video from my vantage point on the Union Terrace. The President is seen on TV. Listen for the booing when he mentions Chicago...
There's confusion when he mentions Sunday. Everyone in the crowd knows the Packers lost to the Chicago Bears on Monday.
ADDED: Do you believe that Obama, when he lived in Chicago, would come up to Madison to have fun? The students love that line, but I don't believe it.

Did I not say that this week things will change? The speech by President in Madison was the turning point. As someone who worked in WI in 2008, this was to be expected.
The House and Senate campaigns will be towards the President, Speaker, and Majority Leader.
GOP, Tea Party, and their friends in media/blogosphere will fail. They only know how to fail. They always over-reach. They always over-think about themselves. In reality, they are nothing. Even their family members do not vote for them.
I'm getting the sense that this speech won't go down among the Gettysburg Address and the Iron Curtain speech among the best the Occident has to offer.
“I had some fun times up here in Madison.”
YOU LIE!!!
I love when the President of the United States makes jokes about his shady past!
And you thought Dubya debased the Presidential dignity coinage?
"Do you believe that Obama, when he lived in Chicago, would come up to Madison to have fun?"
Hard to say, as we don't really know anything about his life. There should be some sort of profession that looks into these kinds of things, you know?
Did he talk about how doing lines of coke is lots of fun, but, man, did it ever make my sinuses go crazy!
By the way, when George W. Bush did coke, it was bad bad bad. Obama, a fun youthful discretion!
I think a Christian might say can I get a witness! Heh.
Btw you usually recall the name of at least one of the bars you stumble into from a memorable college road trip. Did he give a shout out to The Thirsty Badger or whatever the best known pub is called in Madison.
I do not believe Obama was ever in Madison having fun.
There's something predatory about a grown up traveling to party at a college. Then again he could be LYING.
Sept 28, 2010...Palladian devises the idea of an independent, unbiased scrivener or town crier whose job is to dig into the trashy or glorious history of politcial wannabees and broadcast his findings warts and all.
It's hard for me to imagine someone more out of place in the general Madison party scene than a twentysomething Obama.
"It's hard for me to imagine someone more out of place in the general Madison party scene than a twentysomething Obama."
Yeah... probably ordering a Heineken.
He is just like the geek nerd type that tries to look cool by referencing Quaaludes.
What an ass. He's an insecure ass.
I swear if America's Politico is not being paid, he should be.
Heineken?!? Fuck that shit! PABST BLUE RIBBON!!
"I do not believe Obama was ever in Madison having fun."
Actually it's hard to imagine Obama ever having fun, period. Generally when I see politicians "having fun" the activity seems to be in quotation marks.
Conveying the appearance of experiencing the human state known as "fun" would be advantageous at this juncture.
"Heineken?!? Fuck that shit! PABST BLUE RIBBON!!"
Suave? God DAMN Barack, you are one suave fucker!
Thanks, Palladian! I could watch that clip over and over (and I have) and remain eternally amused.
Hahaha you almost tricked me into listening to Obama. You're gonna have to wake up prEtty early in the morning to pull one over on ol' Chip.
"Do you believe that Obama, when he lived in Chicago, would come up to Madison to have fun?"
No.
But he is a typical Early 21st Century Third Rate Politician. They lie as a matter of course, as if it did not matter.
UGH. I actually watched that. And aside from all the inane, opportunistic pablum; all I could think to comment on was to ask Mrs. Ann Althouse Meade what make/model of camera she uses. It looks really good for youtube type political coverage. Very steady-shot coverage even on a pan. If Mrs Ann would tell us what she uses she could even provide a link to the corresponding amazon.com page (Gotsta think like the Insta-Blogger to make the big bucks!)
Obama says whatever sounds good at the moment. Truth has nothing to do with it.
Also, so far Mr. Althouse Meade's comment:
“I had some fun times up here in Madison.”
YOU LIE!!!
wins the thread.
Obama used to travel up to Madison just for the chance to talk to other boring white people.
I used to go to Madison for fun in my youth -- ethanol was my drug of choice and Madison had plenty of that. Plus Madison was not just for schoolkids: In Chicago I never worked with a MadCity expat who didn't find his way back again.
Oh to sit on a porch with a big dog with a bandana for a collar again, and a case of Point Special in the fridge.
Eh, I believe it.
It has the air of a guy driving all night to hook up with a girl.
CNN covered it.
All I want to know is-
what was that song that was used to introduce Obama.
The DNC organized this and they picked it for a reason.
madawaskan, it should have been "Back in the USSR."
Didn't you all read the part of _Dreams from My Father_ where Obama describes working with Acorn in Madison?
Doing meetings with Bill Ayers on the Annenberg project up in Madison?
Attending campaign meetings in Madison with the Democrat Socialists of America?
Teaching Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals" to left wing activists in Madison?
Oh, I forgot. All that happened in Chicago. And Obama left all of it out of his memoir.
Irene
LOL!
Too funny. I hate how I get hung up on weird things.
The lyrics were something about fireflies and the sky and then it was,predictably-
Hello,Wisconsin!
I'm surprised he didn't bring Ashton Kutcher with him.

Then there is fail at the end of the trip.

Not only do I not believe it, I think any mention of going to Madison for "fun" would have garnered a snicker and an eye roll.
Meh. Rock bands do it. Comedians do it. Why shouldn't a politician tell some white lies to warm up the crowd? Does anybody believe it?
Then there is fail at the end of the trip.
That's the worst feeling in the world. Makes you want to kick the dog when you get home.
Then there is fail at the end of the trip.
In Obama's case it was probably epic.
So bad he had some other guy do it for him.
Wait...
The driving-I meant the driving!
Do you believe that Obama, when he lived in Chicago, would come up to Madison to have fun?
I have a hard enough time believing that people IN MADISON go to Madison to have fun.
Sunday - Monday...
57 - 50 states. Who in this crowd cares?
I just watched the video. That is not a large crowd. Most of them were not very energetic. If they had banned the beer, you would have had a crowd of about 37 people.
When I went to Vaparaiso Univ. we used to drive to Milwaukee to have fun. The idea is that there is a lot of fun to be had in Wisconsin.
Well nowadays, not so much.
hdhouse, who is as smart as a steaming pile of shit, wrote "When I went to Vaparaiso Univ. we..."
What the fuck is "Vaparaiso Univ"? Are you just making this shit up or are you truly just a retarded motherfucker?
You make America's Asshole seem intelligent. His or her "The House and Senate campaigns will be towards the President, Speaker, and Majority Leader." is downright brilliant compared to the shit you spew, hdh, and that is some of the least intelligent, most meaningless, poorly written shit I have ever seen.
If you believe anything the man says...oh well
Ann, you have captured a modern social phenomenon known as "jumping the shark" live.
One could have put the enthusiasm of that crown into a bathroom dixie cup and still have space for a shot of bourbon. Some of the looks on the faces of the crowd looked like people revisiting their own choices and not seeming too excited for what they did.
"There's something predatory about a grown up traveling to party at a college. Then again he could be LYING."
There's nothing wrong with adults traveling to college towns to have a little fun. Just ask Ben Rothlisberger.
What the fuck is "Vaparaiso Univ"? Are you just making this shit up or are you truly just a retarded motherfucker?
You get that pissed off about a typo?
Link.
I fondly remember my days in the Amry.
Milwaukee is a lot of fun, what with its various ethnic festivals and of course Summerfest. Touring Pabst (RIP) and Miller Breweries was fun, too.
And compared to the dull Lutheran enclave of Valpo (fun fact: Perry Mason creator Erle Stanley Gardner got such higher education as he had there) Milwaukee would be Fun City.
I fondly remember my days in the Amry
Shouldn't that be "I fondly remember my days in the Amy"? Because HD dropped a letter from Vapo.
But then it would make more sense to type, "I remember my days fondling Amy."
I did quite a few road trips, in my day, so yes, it's possible he did as well.
