Are you kidding? The green chick with tentacles coming out of her head in Jabba's palace was a total femme fatale! Or at least was a snack fatale or something.
MP is far more esoteric than Star Wars or Star Trek. As huge a fan as I am (there are four Bruce's in my family, after all), I admit it's just a large cult following that will diminish with the years...sad to say.
I'm not so sure about that. I work with high school and college students, and it warms my heart to no end to continually discover how many of them can (and do) quote Holy Grail.
Beth, IIRC the leftist hipsters Althouse called out for mysoginistic comments deployed the ironic joke excuse after the fact. ace's joke was clearly a joke from the get go. Some people are incapable of getting the joke because many of the elements of the joke are completely outside their realm of experience.
Well, I suppose. If we're going to do that "offense" thing.
I believe our hostess started that whole thing. The part I object to is that she did it on "our" behalf (as women) when she framed her objection in terms of how "guys" and "women" behave.
And, of course, the (liberal) women in the ad succumbed to the same thing. Speaking for other women. And, by implication, particularly for educated, successful women.
And ewoks, apparently.

I never blamed Wheaton. It's not his fault they wrote his character up as a Mary Sue. In any sense that he needed redeeming, he's done it quite well on the Internet.
"Althouse, I see the "sorta" similarity with Rodney Dangerfield, but I'm pretty sure you and I were appreciating our celebrities for different reasons."
"As Althouse makes clear, she has now backed into the (I think indefensible) position that it is wrong, categorically, to remark upon the sexual desirability of women."
No, I didn't. I objected to remarking upon the sexual desirability of women who are presenting themselves in a nonsexual context (like arguing politics) WHEN the remark comes in the form of saying which one you'd like to EJACULATE ON. Even if you say it via puppet.
Are they presenting themselves in a nonsexual context? They're speaking as women who happen to be riffing on the mama grizzly thing.

And I'm sure the grinding metal comment was completely lost on her.
"Star Wars still lacked a femme fatale..."

Star Wars still lacked a femme fatale
... Anthony Daniels' "C3PO" notwithstanding.

I'll check out that Guild clip though!
Actually Will has totally turned it around as the evil counterpart to Sheldon in the sitcom "The Big Bang Theory."
His best dick move was when he broke up the central couple, Leonard and Penny while destroying Sheldon's bowling team.

Oh? I don't know! I have my quirks!
Althouse,
It's a big, wonderful world, with room for quirks!
