Joan said...: Typical NYT Magazine semi-smear piece. It's replete with loaded language -- practically every sentence twists everything ever-so-slightly askew so that you come away thinking that Scott Brown is an idiot.

They can't bust him for being a moron or a quitter the way they do Sarah Palin, so they'll mock him for being a model. But he was a model for over 10 years, and he paid for his college and law school (and probably his houses, too) that way. Who's going to begrudge the guy? I certainly won't.

Strictly on demographics, Scott Brown should've amounted to nothing. The fact that he's now a Senator is only to his credit.

Garage -- check your timing, there. Brown wore those shorts decades ago, but the NYTMag thinks it's worthwhile to bring it up now. (Wonder what they said about Obama's panama hat?)

Henry said...: I read about one page. It was incredibly dull, a reporter's game of I Spy Trivia. Is that a teeth-whitener discard on the dashboard of the real truck? I'll put that in the story. What about this wax I found in my ear while riding in the real truck? I'll put that in the story too.

In the one page I read Brown came across as incredibly good natured, not least because he was putting up with the idiot reporter.

Fair point. But isn't it the dinky one, that's only $15 billion or something? That's peanuts, in a time when we're talking about a health care bill earlier versions of which were projected to cost in excess of $1.2 trillion.

I can't speak for everyone, but I think you're making a common mistake in assuming so many on the right are very pro-Republican. An awful lot of conservatives nowadays would rather have an independent than a party-line person; someone who demonstrates that they're actually thinking, and not just making knee-jerk votes.
