Thanks to all my readers who gave immediate and overnight pushback to a vile new commenter...

... who I assume was pro-Obama and writing under a pseudonym here with the object of making this blog — and more generally, criticism of Obama — look racist. This coward put up his comment on my 9:50 p.m. post — "Should the President be insulting pop stars?" — at 11:52, presumably to maximize the time that it would be up on the blog and that it would sit here as long as possible before I would take it down, which I did as soon as I got on the blog this morning at around 9 (Central Time).

The commenter, Metlife, had never posted here before and had a profile showing that he'd joined Blogger just this month. He wrote — and the asterisks are mine: "can someone murder that f***ing n***** fast? It will be a good day when Hussein is murdered by one of our southern patriots."

The pushback was immediate. Joe wrote at 11:59: "Could the previous comment be stricken and the poster banned?" Just Lurking said: "Is that you moby?" (suggesting, as I am doing now, that Metlife was against not Obama but this blog community). John Stodder said: "Althouse is probably asleep, but if you have her phone number, wake her up and tell her to delete it." (No one did that.)

Seven Machos said: "Okay, first, get Metlife out of here. At least Cedarford is subtle and occasionally witty.... All racist ass clowns and pretend-racist-agent-provocateur ass clowns should take note of Cedarford's work. This is how it's done." (Cedarford is a longtime commenter who writes well but often expresses extreme ideas of the sort that I do not censor).

I'm guessing that nolife is a plant. A true Southerner always capitalizes the S.

And wouldn't a full-blown racist southerner consider that "southern" is an unnecessary modifier for "patriot"?

Plus he knew how to spell "Hussein."

Good ole boys spell it "Hoo-sane."

Ugh. The Mobys are getting disgusting in here.
Urban Dictionary defines "Moby":
An insidious and specialized type of left-wing troll who visits blogs and impersonates a conservative for the purpose of either spreading false rumors intended to sow dissension among conservative voters, or who purposely posts inflammatory and offensive comments for the purpose of discrediting the blog in question.

The term is derived from the name of the liberal musician Moby, who famously suggested in February of 2004 that left-wing activists engage in this type of subterfuge: “For example, you can go on all the pro-life chat rooms and say you’re an outraged right-wing voter and that you know that George Bush drove an ex-girlfriend to an abortion clinic and paid for her to get an abortion. Then you go to an anti-immigration Web site chat room and ask, ‘What’s all this about George Bush proposing amnesty for illegal aliens?’”

The strategy has been frequently attempted on conservative blogs, but has not been nearly as effective as Moby envisioned, since false rumors are easily debunked by fact-checking minions, and cartoonishly extreme commenters often get immediately identified as mobys and banned.

Actually, Metlife, with his registration [email] and ip address, should be reported to the secret service. Threatening the president is a serious crime, as it should be.

I also wonder if Metlife is actually a lefty troll pulling an Alinsky.
Hey, Alinsky isn't defined yet over at Urban Dictionary. But I know what you mean, and I certainly think he is.

God, what a festering stinkhole of a web site this is. I don't know how you wingnut loons can stand stewing in your own shit like this, presided over by the shit mistress, Ann Althouse.

Of course she's too dishonest to tell you dumb motherfuckers that Obama's remark was made off the record, thus rendering her posed questions ("should the president be insulting pop stars?" and "what business is it of the presidents?") inoperative. And of course you stupid shit-for-brains don't follow the link to find out for yourselves. Maybe the ever-dull Althouse didn't bother reading enough of the story to find out that the comment was off the record, or maybe she's just dishonest.

You're stewing in a cesspool. And you like it!
And that's an example of the sort of comment I don't delete. I'm that into free speech. But Metlife deserves deletion and, as Lucid said, investigation by the Secret Service. I like to think the Secret Service is good enough that they are already on it.

Clearly you've never been to Arizona.

There is no need for anyone on the left to pull such a cheap stunt here because you can just quote the right in their own words. Incidentally the first link is to a story on Chris Broughton and his pastor, you may have heard of Mr. Broughton he's the one who brought the assault rifle to confront Obama supporters outside the President's speech in Phoenix to the VFW.

And, what really defined the right for me came more than a decade ago. It was the day Ron Brown's plane flew into a mountain in Bosnia, and a radio talk show host I was listening to on KKOB 770 in Albuquerque that day said (and this is a direct quote,) "This is a good day, the only thing that could make it better would be if Bill Clinton was also on that plane himself." And most of the callers agreed with him.

That quote and the reaction of the callers has stuck in my mind ever since, and is all I need to know about conservatives.

Jon Sandor said... I have not bothered to look at his "case" against McCain. But I'm familar with Chuckies MO so let me guess. At some point McCain was in close proximity, or at least, in proximity, with somebody else deemed a "white supremacist" over at LGF. These days, that's the bulk of the conservative and libertarian movement. And McCain must have made some statements which, pried out of context, can by made to look damning. Or at least a little bad.

Maybe you should stop guessing, look at the facts, and you'll stop being wrong.

Slow Joe (who appears to be really slow),

"Of course it's OK to ban people for using racial slurs. They are stupid ways to communicate. At least you're not pimping your terrible blog anymore."

So now we're banishing people for making stupid comments? If that's the case then let's just shut down the internet altogether.

Oh - and just for you - my blog's called The Macho Response.

And LGF's Chuck Johnson has devolved into a loon, while Robert Stacy McCain is, and always has been, a fine Southern gentleman. Anybody trying to say otherwise is a liar - "you lie!"

Freeman Hunt,

I read your blog one day, too - you're really smart.

Just Lurking,

Write it on their bathroom walls without getting caught. You know, like a Moby in reverse. Don't take it, man:

My freedoms hang with yours,...literally.

Does anyone think Ted Kennedy's pandering to IRA supporters meant he agreed with the murder of innocent men, women and children?

Well, actually, I do.

I am still waiting for Obama to come out and say something about his supporters attacking dissenting opinion as racist.

It seems to me that if Obama doesn't at least disown this group of vile people that he supports what they are saying.

If he does support them, what does this say about Obama and more importantly can this be far behind?

Cass Sunstein drafted 'New Deal Fairness Doctrine'
Asserts government should regulate broadcasting as it imposed end to segregation

Cass Sunstein
JERUSALEM – President Obama's newly confirmed regulatory czar, Cass Sunstein, drew up a "First Amendment New Deal," a new "Fairness Doctrine" that would include the establishment of a panel of "nonpartisan experts" to ensure "diversity of view" on the airwaves, WND has learned.

Sunstein compared the need for the government to regulate broadcasting to the moral obligation of the U.S. to impose new rules that outlawed segregation.

Until now, Sunstein's radical proposal, set forth in his 1993 book "The Partial Constitution," received no news media attention and scant scrutiny.

In the book – obtained and reviewed by WND – Sunstein outwardly favors and promotes the "fairness doctrine," the abolished FCC policy that required holders of broadcast licenses to present controversial issues of public importance in a manner the government deemed was "equitable and balanced."

Sunstein introduces what he terms his "First Amendment New Deal" to regulate broadcasting in the U.S.

His proposal, which focuses largely on television, includes a government requirement that "purely commercial stations provide financial subsidies to public television or to commercial stations that agree to provide less profitable but high-quality programming."

According to McCain he and another fellow were involved in a Southern heritage group and when one of the other persons started going off the white supremacist rails they said "Knock it off... not funny, not helpful." And then they left.

OH MY GAWD!!!

But hey, to me it sounds like what Jon Sandor said... at one time McCain was in proximity to someone who is considered a white supremacist.

I once stood within four feet of George Lucas...

I wonder what that makes me?

Excellent - now please account for the Muslim Marxist Hitler signs, the Obama is a Foreigner signs, and so on.

I can only prove that the numerous, well-know, widely distributed, professionally-made signs depicting Obama as Hitler were made and carried by supporters of a Democratic candidate for President.

I will magnanimously concede that I cannot prove that the other similar signs you claim were there were also being carried around by supporters of a Democratic candidate for President.

One thing that was wonderful about the DC Tea Party was that the people were good people.

There was not one violent incident, their signs were creative, and they were so well-behaved I could have dropped my wallet and got it back with interest.

Great ole American fun, spirit, and patriotism and respect for the Constitution.

I am so glad I got to participate.

Oh, and they LOVE Sarah Palin.

your blog is boring, which is why no one reads it, which is why you come here to bash this blogger to generate hype. It sends a lot of first time reader to your blog, but none of them even remember it because it's so damn boring, so you accomplished little more than any other troll.

Your sarcastic reply was not an argument. Why shouldn't we ban people who use racial slurs? You say because to do so is akin to shutting down the entire internet. But most threads on the internet ban racists, and the internet seems to be fine. Rules exist. It's not OK to go to the bathroom in the middle of the restaurant, and it's not OK to use the N word to mock black people.

These are social conventions, but there are great reasons behind them. You know that, but you want to generate as much controversy as possible for your blog, which you correctly describe as an attempt to prove your manhood. By the way, you failed.

LGF has indeed lost it. They are boring and full of intolerance and hatred. They want to tar all the disagree with as racist, which is just dumb.
