It's a new Bloggingheads — with me and Dayo Olopade.

Lots of vigorous debate in this one. I'll do some clips later.

I live in Virginia and am following, but not closely, the Anti-Feminist Thesis story.

Regardless of how much Deeds surrogates like the WaPo push it, I don't think it's going to have much impact given the facts that:

- McDonnell was raised by his mother, a former USAF officer and working mom
- McDonnell has a good record of hiring women
- His wife kept her maiden name, works outside the home and raised 5 kids
- 3 daughers, one served in Irzq and has large job in his campaign

A) She wants to legislate morality?

I think that's the fall back position...

B) Then she makes the argument that you could take more home in wages if we nationalized Health Care.

Really? How does that work?

Aren't you going to have to raise taxes?

And if I can keep my current plan how are they making the argument that I can keep my plan and get more wage!?

Excuse me if I don't trust that rubric when just recently they told us that the spending of billions on the stimulus would keep unemployment below 8.5% which-

As of today-

9.7%

Drill Sgt:

I think you're right (BWDIK?) I was going to quote the psalm, By his deeds shall a man be known, in support of that position, but I'm not sure that is a good idea. ;-)

It's all part of the "Free Ponies Policy," Madawaskan. Sign up early to get first pick!

Meanwhile, my WaPo's top story is: Stimulus credited for Lifting Economy, but Worries about Unemployment Persist

The only person doing the "crediting" in the front page section of the story was the noted econometrician, Joe "we have to go spend money to keep from going bankrupt" Biden.

BTW

Democrats are LINKING/DANGLING stimulus funds to supporters (or potential supporters) for his health care plan.

(don’t ask me how I know)

Dayo represents "the argument" of the world over since the Capitalist system began creating so much wealth: Your have more than me and that alone is immoral, so turn it over now or else. Frankly that is armed robbery with a counterfeit cover of morality. The exposure of the false argument is that its proponents ally with the super-rich of the world to rob the hard working middle class, and that equal is never these robber's true goal...he/she will always take it all, unless we are armed and resist. The great shock to people today since the Soros financed Democrats took over is that our Government we thought was created to guard our freedoms has unashamedly sold us out to these robbers all over the world. They are now demanding all that we have right now, or else their faked CRISIS DU JOUR will kill us. We need to find resolute leaders to defend us and put them back into the President's Office and Congress while we are still free to elect our leaders.

The very rich don't spend their money. They have investments, which is capital, which is what raises the wages of everybody that works.

From these investments they take only an income stream, and probably reinvest most of that. The investment, which is money they don't spend on themselves, grows.

The result of the system is that the allocation of capital to projects is diversified, in particular away from politicians, and so goes where it makes actual sense.

You don't actually have to be very rich to hit that point, where there simply isn't anything you want to buy for yourself. Then you concern yourself with wise investments instead.

The very rich differ only in being well beyond that point, and mostly simply invest more without spending more.

The Protestant approach to reading texts is to leave it up to the minister, and then pay no attention to him.

Dayo talks way too fast. Way too fast. And, unfortunately, it seems to have driven Ann into a competition to keep up with her. I don't remember Ann ever talking that fast before.

I hope Dayo studies this video and learns from it. I left a note on the Blogginheads site. There's a difference between a conversation with a friend and a public performance. You do have to speak somewhat differently. I understand the BH episodes are meant to be informal, but they shouldn't be a chore to listen to.

WV: conated - I hope don't get conated when I'm not looking.

That was enjoyabe Althouse. Thanks for sharing.

Also, I love when Dayo showed she can't do math and believes there can be a free lunch for everyone....I paraphrase Dayo "if there was universal healthcare, my employer would have more money to put into my paycheck". LOL.

kcom,

You can change the speed to normal. Look at the bottom of the screen, it's set up for 1.4 times faster.

Not exactly. They spend more as they get wealthier on bigger toys, but rhharinm you're right that the percentage of their income that becomes investment capital increases faster than the basic income does.

Thanks AllenS,

I never noticed that button. I was freaking out. Very scary at 1.4X.

Critical thinking is not Dayo's strong point. She's just another talking point dispenser.

One thing that amazes me about the health care debacle is that the the lefty talking heads go on these public forums and admit the original cost-saving strategy was a ruse. Then they wax poetic on the need to invent some new magic talking point that can be sold to the rubes. It never occurs to them that people saw through the first lie and are therefore less likely to believe the next.

wv - pladspac - the sound of Obama's next health care speech when it hits voter's ears.

Thanks, AllenS. I knew that button existed but I didn't notice it was on the higher speed by default. I feel a little bit stupid now. :O Still, it's a little odd to default to the higher speed. Thanks for clearing things up.

(It also explains why it didn't seem that an hour had passed when Dayo mentioned it had been an hour. Now I get it.)

WV: slyme - Lots of possibilities there.
