I applaud the Democrats who aren't following their idiotic leaders like sheep.
Also, note the picture of Reid in the article. It's shots like that one that I was talking about back during the comment storm on Obama with the Seal around his head.
Obama's support is down to 56% among likely voters in the Rasmussen tracking polls and his plans are not even pulling majorities.
In the House, there are 49 Dems representing Red districts McCain won in a really big Dem election and the GOP needs just 39 of them to win back the House in 2010.
The defectors in the Senate are up for reelection in 2010.
The Menendez rebellion was a jolt of political reality for Reid, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Obama, signaling that the solidarity of the stimulus debate is fading as Democratic lawmakers are starting to read the fine print of the bills they will wrestle with in the coming weeks and months, and not always liking what they see.
Imagine that :)
Let folks read what you want them to vote on and support for it fails. That is why the trillion dollar stuimulus votes had to be made before the bill was off the presses.

Me too. I believe in principals before party, but self interest (as far as not wanting to lose an election) works too. That’s why redistricting sucks…it would be better if none of these people were ever safe.
The Democrats must have buyers remorse too. They bought into making history and creating a legacy with the One. Now they realize the Messiah is an empty suit with no resume, experience, skill, or common sense.
I more republicans in the Congress had resisted their party's big spending ways prior to '06, then might even be in power today. Until January of this year, I had thought that Republican congress to be the most irresponsible spendthrifts since the 1960s - and at the time they were, thought Reid and Pelosi have subsequently reduced them to piker status.
Still, had a few real fiscal hawks stood up to Tom DeLay et al, it might have even give Bush the courage or cover to veto a few things.
No shit, Sherlock. This is what Dem's do. If you want lockstep, follow-the-leader thinking you have the Republican ("Save the zygotes! Bomb the [insert a nation full of non-white people here]") Party.
If you want a bunch of people with different opinons under one big tent slugging it out or forming a circular firing squad, then there's the Dems.

Its simple math.

This is the cost of failing to achieve bipartisanship.
They are ineffectual fighters - some are still alive.

First word should have been "If".
A "jolt of political reality" is a good thing. They should be reading and debating the fine print.
If a Democrat wants to obtain more power, fighting Republicans is of little use. You can only obtain power from those that have it.
In other news, a dog bit a man today.
