Oh Lord - they're already getting ready to bleat that it was stolen? No one's "stolen" an election since Jack Kennedy stole it fair and square in '60. When are these people going to grow up.

From the article: "“Wealthy Republicans are very anxious about taxes,” Jamie Wasserman, a psychotherapist with a practice on the Upper West Side and in Montclair, N.J., said of her patients. “They are not pretending to vote for the black man.”"

That last sentence astounds me.

This is slightly off-topic, but can someone enlighten me about why there are so few people available to work at voting centers that even early voters are on line for hours? I don't know what the requirements are, but if you know you've just flooded the system with however many thousands more registered voters, shouldn't there be some follow up (rather than instant bleating about people possibly being disenfranchised)?

What does

“They are not pretending to vote for the black man.”"

mean? Can someone translate New York Liberalese for me?

Jen:

Baffling to me too. For example, if a voting district has 750 registered voters and three voting machines, why are there lines?

If you have only one day to vote and there is 80% turnout. That means 600 people vote / 3 machines = 200 voters per machines / 12 hours to vote = 16 voters per machine per hour= 4-5 minutes per voter?

So why are there lines in places where you have like two weeks to vote?

Red America is use to this charge but now will also have the Racism allegations going. This will make for a very long and shrill four years. If he loses Obama can do much to smother or fan these flames and have a major impact on race and political discourse by what he chooses.

Still MLK must be proud that 40 from his death a black is a candidate for Prez. Thats a long road travelled.

The pending storm I forsee is should Obama win. Since 2002 we've been subjected to GWB effigies hanging by noose on sticks being marched around and occasionally burned. So, when Right protests the first military adventure we will be safe to carry Obama's effigy, hung by a noose, during the protest. Right? Cause it would not be racial but instead a political cartoon. One with a long history. May be best if we let our European betters broach this first. Can't be covered by hate speech. This week's hanging of a Palin effigy caused no proceedings and hangin either Biden or McCain effigies is old hat.

Stolen election allegations is really a ploy for fully employing lawyers. Lawyers to watch the counting, lawyers to argue on what chad counts, aurgue in court how this polling place needs counting while these ballots are all spoiled. A couple lucky lawyers may get to see and speak at the temple to the Gods. Where a decision wil be rendered.

Lawyers stick together like a pack of rabbid wolves. Always the lawyers!

It's really pitiful that I almost hope Obama wins, just because I dread the tantrum.

As bright sides go, being able to point back at 2008 and say, "See, your guy won," may make 2012 and onward just a little more bearable.

Of course, I think that the persecution complex is something these people find a whole lot of meaning in, so it may be all for nothing.

I like how the article mentions troubles in Ohio and Florida, as if those weren't caused by the Democrats. (Or, I guess W could've conceded after Gore decided to unconcede.)

It seems to me that what they're saying is that if you game the polls, get blanket coverage of how secure your win is, that you're entitled to win.

I look at the polls and I see Dems sampled way higher than Reps. "Well," they say, "Dems are registering like crazy."

Then I read the papers with Acorn registering 1.3M and admitting to 30% bad registrations.

Then I remember that Rush Limbaugh was out there encouraging Reps to vote in the Dem primary--some of them certainly might have registered.

And then I read the alleged memoirs of PUMAs working in the Obama campaign and alleging that the polls are skewed as part of a deliberate strategy to demoralize conservatives.

And every now and again I wonder how a nation attacked by a guy named Osama and at war with a guy named Hussein could elect a terrorist-associated guy named Hussein Obama--I mean, just that alone should've been enough to rule him out.

Silly, sure, but do you think a guy named John Wilkes Booth could get elected? I don't think so.

Anyway, I add it all up and it comes up somewhere between 0 and infinity.

I don't get the confidence at all. It's like trying to build a climate model: Too many unknown variables.

Did someone really hang Sarah Palin?

In any case, I always thought the George Bush effigies were terribly European.

And I don't mean that in a good way.

It's a bit hard to take the outrage at how "hateful" Palin rally attendees are when we've been blessed with the vision of the symbolic violence and rage involved in "Peace" protests for the last several years.

Did someone really make a Sarah Palin effigy and hang her?

In any case, you're quite right. Hanging Obama in effigy would be nasty and I hope that the "right" never starts crap like that. Leave it to Code Pink.

Madisonman - will be viewed as anything buy horribly racist until a couple of generations have passed. There are still plenty of blacks alive who have had close relatives lynched by white mobs, so the image of angry whitefolk hanging an Obama effigy is probably too soon after that still.

Please. Organized lynching ceased to be a factor back in the 1920s. From Reconstruction until about 80 years ago, only around 2400 blacks were lynched, over 3000 whites and they were generally guilty of the crime they were lynched for.

An actual lynching of a relative affects a miniscule, miniscule part of the present black population which possesses a living memory of such an occurance.

After that era closed in the 20s, "civil rights movement people" tried hard to describe garden variety murderous hate crimes as lynchings - but these were acts of private murder, done by small groups of twisted men, out of public view. There will always be James Byrd cases and the Left will always try to portray any rare white on black or Asian on black crime as "a lynching". Along with their initial reaction to hoaxes done by blacks to drum up the usual Lefty sympathy
and reivigorate the old "mean whitey done persecuted and lynched us again" narrative of the Tawana Brawleys, Columbia profs with nooses appearing on their doorsteps, "traumatic racist graffitti", Duke Lacrosse.

But for each and every true or false "black lynching" claimed since the 1920s as a political tool, there are 500 whites who were murdered or savagely raped by a stranger or strangers of the black thug type.

Present-day "lynchings" of blacks are done 94% of the time by other blacks, 5+% by Hispanics, less than 1% of the time by whites or Asians.
Whereas, black thugs account for 24% of hispanic murders and rapes, 36% of white murders and rapes, and 40% of such "lynchings" in Asian groups.

If any group or groups deserves "sparing the trauma" of being reminded of lynching, it is the relatives in all racial groups whose living memory of "lynchings"
is that of evil black thugs..not "angry whitefolk".

Friday afternoon, I popped over to my kids' school with something for my daughter. On my way to her class, I saw my second grade son eating lunch and stopped by to say hi. His friend, let's call him John, was sitting next to him, and beside John was another more rambunctious classmate I'll call Mark. Mark asked me, "Who are you voting for?" Without thinking too much about it, I replied, "John McCain." I said 'bye to the boys and went to find my daughter.

A few minutes later I was walking back through the MPR and noticed that John was in tears and the aide was trying to calm him down. I asked my son what happened to him. He didn't know. I asked him, did you say anything mean to John? He said, "No. He just likes Barack Obama." John was upset to the point of tears because he found out his friends (or his friends' parents) like John McCain more than Barack Obama.

The aide, God bless her, told him it was silly to cry about that when she found out what he was crying about. But what the hell have John's parents been telling him that he gets so upset when he finds out a couple of classmates' parents disagree with his parents? It's ridiculous.

Actually, the Palin hanging was up for about 3 weeks before it made the news. The "artist" who owns the house said that he wanted to evoke comments about the presidential race. The neighbors covered the display with a sheet and the "artist" got the hint and took it down. But not before a visit by the cops who suggested it would be a wise move to remove the display. No charges filed...

Also on Wednesday, an effigy of Obama was found hanging on the U of K campus. Two students admitted to the prank. They were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Moral of the story... if you get caught hanging effigies, claim it's "art" designed to provoke a reaction.

John--

As Stephanie points out (and as I thought I pointed out, too), one way you can do it is by inflating the number of registrations for a party. The pollsters then weight the poll incorrectly.

There's already a confirmed bias in the fact that the pollsters--the guys making the calls--are pro-Obama and so unconsciously influence the outcome of the poll.

Are there other ways to skew a poll? I don't know.

Is it the fever dream of a madwoman? Maybe. Or something more banal. You can check it out for yourself here.

As Ace noted, it's too perfect: It completely reinforces the Rep ideas of how Obama is running his campaign.

Which is why I say it has a value between zero and infinity.

I just went over our numbers and found that we have next to no chance in the following states: Missouri, Indiana, North Carolina, Florida, New Hampshire and Nevada. Ohio leans heavily to McCain, but is too close to call it for him. Virginia, Pennsylvania, Colorado, New Mexico and Iowa are the true “toss up states”. The only two of these the campaign feels “confident” in are Iowa and New Mexico.

Interesting if true. As is the comment about an 80% refusal to respond rate.

If Tuesday goes down exactly like "they" say, this will all mean nothing. And if doesn't, it still means nothing (other than the polls were bad). I profess to no insight, other than finding the party "balancing" skewed--but then I can't guarantee that it's wrong, only that it looks wrong to me.

blake said...

The 80% refusal rate is pretty accurate. That is the standard response rate for ALL phone polling (and for walk up pollsters, it is even less, but I digress).

blake said...

Really? That seems high compared to the polling data we generated.

Huh. If it's no different, it's no different. But I'd bet money a McCain voter is more likely to refuse.

Anonymous said...

blake said...But I'd bet money a McCain voter is more likely to refuse.

Of course, that's the key. Obama voters want to tell the world. McCain voters are like.. "fuck you, get off my yard".

The polling is judging voluntary responders.

Huge Obama bias and that has nothing to do with the phony Bradley Effect.

If the media doesn't demoralize these people into staying home then McCain will win.

....the fact that some pollsters get up to an 80% “refuse to respond” result. You can’t possibly include these into the polls. The truth is, people are afraid to let people know who they are voting for. The vast majority of these respondents are McCain supporters. Obama is the “hip” choice, and we all know it.

Yeah well I also can claim to have an impending sense of doom.

And it comes up when I read this again (an anniversary of sorts) about the campus life re-education program at the University of Delaware:

http://www.thefire.org/index.php/article/9870.html

What was put in place at the University of Delaware is what Obama's "Associates" talk like -- mandatory meetings to promote and enforcer a highly specified social, environmental, and political agenda.

Anything deemed remotely "oppressive" by anyone was to be stamped out, and resident assistants were being taught that "[a] racist is one who is both privileged and socialized on the basis of race by a white supremacist (racist) system. The term applies to all white people (i.e., people of European descent) living in the United States, regardless of class, gender, religion, culture or sexuality."

So if you are undecided or haven't voted yet -- think about what Obama's "unity" will look like.

Call me a liar.

Simon,

Unfortunately, a lot of (conservative and liberal) women dislike Palin because they resent her rise to the top of the heap without seeming to pay her dues. If Sarah is as sharp as I suspect, she will win a lot of those people over in time.

The real haters are probably the usual suspects who hate anyone who isn't a leftist. You can tell the difference because the latter are foaming at the mouth and engaging in the usual projection.

Michael McNeil said...

As noted by others above, if Obama loses it won't just supposedly be because of racism, but also 'cause the election was stolen. The word has long been going round on leftist and Democratic mailing lists as well as places like the Huffington Post (circulated by folks like Greg Palast and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.) that the “fix” is in — and Obama supporters should act to “steal back your vote.” I've received probably a dozen e-mails from his site alone on the topic.

If Obama is defeated, there will be a huge hoorah issued by all the leftist smoke-making machines about how the election was stolen out from under him. But, of course, we're all assured by Dem partisans that voter fraud — from their side of the aisle — is a myth.

Another piece about the forthcoming “theft” of the election (by Republicans, of course) can be seen in Rolling Stone, in another article by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Greg Palast that was supposedly posted on October 30, 2008 (it was actually posted a couple of weeks before). Palast touts the Rolling Stone piece at his own site, under the original title “It's already stolen,” spouting:

“Don’t worry about Mickey Mouse or ACORN stealing the election. According to an investigative report out today in Rolling Stone magazine, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Greg Palast, after a year-long investigation, reveal a systematic program of ‘GOP vote tampering’ on a massive scale.”

The oh-so-reliable leftist Dem propaganda organ Truthout (which still hasn't disavowed their news report some time back revealing that Karl Rove is about to be indicted any day now) jumps on the bandwagon with this interview with the intrepid pair.

The BBC joins the stampede with a two-part investigative report Palast did for BBC Newsnight titled “The Theft of 2008” that one can see at Greg's site, or directly at YouTube.

Then there's the StealBackYourVote.org site that they've launched, as well as a 24-page full-color comic book “Steal it Back!” (Here's a cover from that work of art.) As Palast writes of the comic:

“Make a $100 tax deductible donation at StealBackYourVote.org and we'll send you 25 to pass out to troublemakers of your choice. And, for every $100 donation, we will give away another 400 to voters to vulnerable voters in swing states. We just sent eight cases to Santiago Juarez. Santiago's working with young Hispanic voters of New Mexico. Can you help us send him more? […]

“Or give us the donation, we'll send'm to a church designated by our co-sponsor Jesse Jackson's Operation Rainbow/PUSH. Thanks to your prior generosity, we're offering the printing plates FREE of any fee to us to any magazine or weekly that wants to insert comic. […]

“Coming soon — Greg Palast and Bobby Kennedy in Steal Back Your Vote! — the Film — from the pueblos of New Mexico to Karl Rove’s emails (really!), the real scoop. ‘Stories so relevant they threaten to alter history.’ — Chicago Tribune.”

Clearly, the leftist propaganda organs are working overtime on the upcoming theft of the 2008 election — by Republicans, of course, despite all the “troublemakers” as they call it that they're distributing their helpful “Steal it Back” guide to. Because, always remember: vote fraud from the left is a myth.

They need to do a same story for republicans who are worried.

You know the ones living in Mayberry, Pensacola, Tupelo, and Provo.

Granted, traveling to those cities may not be as fabulous as Cambridge and the Upper West Side but that is where the real America and pro Americans live.

Those cities in the article are all elite and educated and make money. I thought democrats didn't work?

blake: "It's sort of a sign that government is too powerful. Most people shouldn't care who wins."

Now that should be the goal of the next president. Imagine having time to think about your real life for a change. Maybe we should amend the constitution so that the winner would never be announced, just work in secret. Imagine the bliss of ignorance, I do.

Remember, Republicans steal elections - Democrats just protect the civil rights of the minorities like non-living-Americans and ficticious-Americans to vote as many times as they want.
