WaPo: "Obama Campaign Vows Aggressive Response to GOP Attacks." NYT: "Obama Plans Sharper Tone as Party Frets."
Why not just get tough? And we'll be the judge of whether you're tough.
Personally, I'd rather you show me you're going to get tough on our enemies... and not just that you're gearing up to go ballistic on Sarah Palin.
By the way, if I were judging those 2 newspapers based on those 2 headlines, I would say that it's WaPo that's trying to help Obama and the NYT is subtly mocking him. Vows vs. plans, aggressive vs. sharper, response vs. tone and, most tellingly, the difference in motivation: WaPo has Obama vowing to respond aggressively because the GOP is the first aggressor. The NYT has Obama planning to speak in a sterner voice because the people on his side are fretting. WaPo's Obama is a warrior in a grand battle. The NYT pictures a party of nervous worries and their candidate who's got the wrong tone of voice and who needs to make a plan to sharpen it.

Reminds me of Hans Brix and Kim Il-Jong in Team America. Here's the cockney version of that scene.
I find it embarrassing.
Why?
By all appearances he has served his constituents well since arriving in Congress without having learned how to use a computer.
Perhaps he prefers to travel to other countries to learn about the world. Or perhaps he spends a great deal of time reading.
How, exactly, will computer skills help him be a good President?
Do you think he will sit around the Oval Office writing memos?
Do you think he'll fire off emails to Putin or Sarkozy to schedule poker games?
What good would it do for him to have computer skills when he isn't going to be using them as President for the next four to eight years?
As mentioned previously, operating a computer is not a requirement for leadership, which is what we hire Presidents to do.
michael - that's a rough estimate of the amount of Jihadis killed in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sudan, Malaysia, Indonesia, etc...
I'm sure at least a majority of the 9/11 families appreciate Bush's tough "cowboy" response.
Trooper-
If Pittsburgh wins, I will send you an autographed photo of Frenchy Fuqua that I have with him wearing a big purple hat and those seven inch heels with the gold fish in them.
If THE WORLD CHAMPION NEW YORK GIANTS WIN, then you have to end each of your posts with the words
"Have I told you lately that the Giants won the Super Bowl."
I dunno...we're going to have to negotiate this..
Somehow the first half doesn't feel like a "win".
I'm off to go take some consultations on this...
Now I hear the following:
* McCain almost closing the gap in Michigan
* Obama's WA lead down to 5 points
* Dino Rossi has a 6 point lead in the WA governor's race
* 10K showing up to a McCain rally in Dearborn, MI
any good news on the Obama front? any at all?
"Dino Rossi has a 6 point lead in the WA governor's race"
Cool. And he makes a great hearty burgundy too!
I will take the field and, if I win, I want the Frenchy Fuqua thing and both of you to sign off with one line of a Michael Jackson lyric, to be chosen by you.
any good news on the Obama front? any at all?
I heard he's going to get tough. There's also a new Palin scandal a'brewin' and this one is sure to stick.
Ok, my line is "The chair is not my son."
Awesome!
Still, Dogwood, don't let Kate and your second daughter turn out to be me -- in reverse. *cringe*
It's okay Victoria, I grew up in a union Democrat family and was the first one to break for the Republican party in the 1980s.
My grandmother called me her Republican grandson and everyone knew who she was talking about because there was only one!
Today, everyone in my family votes Republican with no signs of any of them returning to the Democrats any time soon.
I'm counting on the political conversion process to last at least another generation or two before it shifts the other way.
However, if the Dems keep on their present course, I don't think we'll have anything to worry about.
I do appreciate your concerns though!
In the "Vicky hasn't mentioned her dad for a whole two posts" department, newsflash:
My father just laughed at the Obama ad about the emails.
When a die-hard Liberal thinks that's a stupid ad, you know you're in trouble.
Mr. McCain’s choice of Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska as his running mate and the resulting jolt of energy among Republican voters appear to have caught Mr. Obama and his advisers by surprise.
Oh Really? Why am I NOT surprised?
This is the guy that wanted to right off the bat chat with our enemies w/o preconditions. Imagine if he can get "surprised" by the 'doddering' McCain what would Chavez and Ahmadinejad do with him?
When a die-hard Liberal thinks that's a stupid ad, you know you're in trouble.
Good one Victoria!
erniecu73 says: "I would be extremely surprised if any of them knew them under anyone's particular name's doctrine. If you have proof to the contrary, please do produce it."
Well, maybe you could...Google it, whistle dick.
I'm not here to prove anything to you, and if you actually believe a "name" has to be assigned to a specific policy or doctrine, before those running for President or Vice-President need to know what it is or understand it, you're dumber than first thought.
Palin was well-rehearsed, had specific things memorized, which is why she repeated herself a number of times, and handled herself in a reasonable manner.
The fact that McCain's people hadn't provided the necessary information relating something as important as the Bush Doctrine, considering what it relates to, is a poor reflection on their abilities to prepare a candidate.
And by the way: The key element of the Bush Doctrine itself isn't that complicated, considering it basically says that we have the right to treat countries that harbor, aid, assist, etc. terrorists, as terrorists.
Think you could cram all of that into that huge brain of yours?
If you want to tell yourself that previous Presidents and Vice-Presidents aren't fully aware of the previous Presidents policies, and especially anything to do with potentially aggressive actions, you're dreaming.
Actually they are not. They are clueless. They are not made fully aware of policies until they are elected and briefed during the transition period. All the rest is pure speculation on their part or public knowledge. Have you been living under a rock or something? You never heard of security clearances or classified information?

The most concerning thing to me right now is Obama leading in New Mexico, Colorado and Nevada. I don't understand why those more libertarian leaning states would vote for such a statist.
Because people out West hate Bush and the idea of endless wars for "freedom lovers" in foreign lands that can't seem to fight for themselves- then bushwhack our guys rather than work with us to rebuild their shitholes. They hate the corruption and Corporatism of the Republicans. It is libertarian populism that hates DC and wants real change from Bush/Clinton business as usual, real reform.
McCain is doing well breaking away from Bush. The diss of Bush at the Republican Convention and selection of Palin as a hardcore reformer of Old Boys Clubs was a great start. McCain could also use Romney as a surrogate more and more out West, where his outsider status, and no BS strong Mormon ethics resonates well outside the Mormons...Especially if McCain signals he will appoint Romney Treasury Secretary and Czar to analyze and clean up the Fed Gov't with no favortism...

Integrity - This is a demographic game. Until we can win the way we want to win, I think we would prefer to lose.
The uptight, miserable old white people won't live forever. We might have to wait it out.
But we will still play the loyal opposition role that any 2 party system requires, and at times be real aholes about it. We are angry. We need to stay angry.
News for you. Half the hispanics are 100% white. "Hispanic" is an artificial preference group invented by two Jewish economists under Nixon tasked with creating the EEO. They also invented "Pacific Islander", which applies to Samoans but not Tahitians, Japanese, or Filipinos.
Asians also work and maintain a superior culture and lifestyle backed by education, family values, and hard work.
So your dream of non-city whites submerged by a rising tide of angry 3rd-Worlders led and mentored by angry trust fund WASPs and wealthy Jewish elitists of the Hard Left is complete fantasy.
The votes aren't there even as whites become less dominant in elections.
The black underclass that elitist Jews and WASPs on the Left count on to leverage their numbers continue to descend further into parasitism and barbarism.
Asians and most Hispanics have no intent to see their state, or their nation sink to the shithole status of places dominated by black underclass and their leaders.
If worse comes to worst, you have a 2nd Civil War, which would be underclass blacks and hardcore white Lefties against everyone else (the productive ones who control the military, food production, transporation, and most technology essential for city's survival). The outcome would be certain even if the working class blacks free of crime and other underclass pathologies joined on the black-Lefty side.
Then we would scrap the old Constitution for sure, come up with a better one that only extends the voting franchise to contributors to society, no more lifetime judges, and parasites shit out of luck. Moved out of burned out cities into camps...no vote..powerless..no doubt eager to see what advice the white Lefty elitists in the same camps would have for them then.
Enjoy your anger, Integrity. Stay angry. It will give you something to do the rest of your life.
alex, There haven't been 100,000 terrorists killed.

any good news on the Obama front? any at all?
There's a rumor that LoafingOaf will quit posting "helpful" support messages on his behalf... :)
Dogwood, whew, okay. :)
Today, everyone in my family votes Republican with no signs of any of them returning to the Democrats any time soon.
Reminds me of this Republican operative I know down here -- let's call him Vinny, just in case.
His Calabrese-Italian family are originally from Jersey, and his father was not only an union man, but he and his 3 brothers were labour leaders, in charge of negotiations with management. They were huge Democrats until 1980.
Reason?
Exact same wording that President Reagan used of Charlton Heston, when the former was describing why the latter had walked away from his liberal Party.
"Chuck didn't leave the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party left him."
You can't be for the little guy, for the working class man, for the union woman, for a person has a degree from a modest university, and be a Democrat.
Sarah Palin showed the world what kind of snobs the Democrats are these past few weeks, and why people like her wouldn't even think twice of being Republicans today.
A lot of feminists were born in 2008, but a lot of Republicans too.
Good luck though, Dogwood! :)
Cheers,
Victoria
peter, you need to take a political science or government course if you actually believe any newly elected administration doesn't know all about the previous administration's policies, doctrines or whatever.
With the exception of a President doing something our elected officials are not aware of, which is illegal by the way, policies, etc. are vetted and voted on.
Did you know that?
michael - how do you know that? Ok, just looked it up on Wikipedia:

michael, seriously, go back to your homework, I am sure you have plenty to finish.
Your point is flimsier by the second. And whatever is left of your sanity...We have argued convincingly against it, and honestly, there is nothing else to say about it. If you insist in clinging to it just to fall with it, serve yourself.

At the end of the day, the count is what counts.

erniecu73, I notice you had absolutely no logical response, only another silly schoolyard taunt. (But I'll keep in mind that if the policies and doctrines that have names attached need not be understood.)
*And by the way: Small victories are easy to come by, it's the bigger and more important ones that linger in the minds of men..and women I guess.

That's cool. How many virgins fit on the head of a pin?
I'm surprised the margin is that close in Ohio.
michael - what is the "definitive" Bush Doctrine? Palin was totally correct in wanting to know which one Gibson meant. Was she supposed to enumerate the entire list of possible answers for your satisfaction?
At the end of the day, the count is what counts
Holy Mother of Obama! Are you certain those numbers are right for Georgia? I heard last night from a Democratic commentator that Georgia was "sewn" up fo the Illinois Senator.
BTW, what is Shinola? Is that like Canola? I like it though!
any good news on the Obama front? any at all?
Yeah, he is going to get tough. He is bringing Joe Biden out of the wilderness he banished him to. Obama wants him to do the man’s job he could not; that is if he can find Joe Biden.
Well, maybe you could...Google it, whistle dick.

Michael - The fact that McCain's people hadn't provided the necessary information relating something as important as the Bush Doctrine, considering what it relates to, is a poor reflection on their abilities to prepare a candidate.
Nice try, Michael. Few people recognize a policy under someones name, when that policy was altered after announced 6 years ago and could possibly refer to other "doctrines" of a two term President.
It comes across like Noble Algore smugly saying Bush knew nothing about Dingell-Norwood when 99.99% of the rest of the country didn't know what the fuck Dingell-Norwood was, and almost as large a number didn't care.
On a show, several pundits said they didn't know because only some of the media named the "Bush Doctrine" as applied to 9/11 and "not waiting for threats to strike" and subsequently, Bush created other Doctrines - His stupid Sharansky Democracy/Freedom Lover Doctrine where we would gladly die in many wars to "liberate" noble purple-fingered peoples that hated us, the African Doctrine, SS Privatization Doctrine...
Palin should have said "Which Doctrine"? Supply side tax cuts? Africa? Sharanskyism? Peventative War? Free trade doc.....? Oh, you mean his 9/11 preventative war doctrine? Not his "Your with us or you're with the terrorists Doctrine?"
Historically, Carter had 3 Doctrines that bear his name, given to him at one time or another by himself or others.
Nixon had 7-8 Doctrines associated with him.
Even Ford had a couple.

The only way Obama-Biden win now is if Obama sticks a fork in Biden, and brings Hillary on.
Maybe Obama and Hillary already came to an agreement about that, last week, and Obama went to eat crow in person with Bill yesterday.
So I'm prepared for an announcement soon.
Cheers,
Victoria
Might I suggest:
Sugar Fly With Me
Ain't nobody's business but mine and my baby
P.S.: That would also explain why Michelle didn't go with him, to such an important memorial.
My mother asked, "Didn't Michelle want to honour the victims of 9/11?".
I'm guessing if my scenario is true, she hasn't come to terms with the Obama family having to prostrate themselves publicly, yet.
I want to say here that I don't really care for Michelle Obama but there is, to my knowledge, no factual evidence that she is somehow adamantly against everything Hillary Clinton.
The proper Michael Jackson lyric is of course:
Just take it slow
cause we got so far to go
When you feel that heat
And were gonna ride the boogie
Share that beat of love
If Mort were awake he would say that was racist.
BTW, what is Shinola? Is that like Canola? I like it though!
A brand of shoe polish. During WWII GIs wore brown shoes and Shinola was one of the brands of polish. The phrase he don't know shit from Shinola was born to describe people who, well, could not tell the difference.
The phrase was used by GIs to describe people who could not understand simple concepts, read with accuracy, walk and chew gum atthe same time, or had no common sense what so ever.
Thus the phrase Michael doesn't know shit from Shinola is an accurate representation.
And we're gonna ride the boogie
That alone would make me giddy to see.

Wouldn't we all just like to know. But key advisor Michelle is "off limits". Oh well, if Obama loses, it will have been worth it.
Share the love baby, share the love.
It's the Reggie Bush doctrine.
that she is somehow adamantly against everything Hillary Clinton.
You're right. I got nothing to go on to base this -- except the demonic look of hatred she gave Hillary and Bill, during their speeches at the DNC.
(Peter, thanks! That is a GREAT expression then. I will begin to use it)

But she is 100% for her husband. She would not want Hillary on the ticket. Dumping Biden for Hillary would make Obama look weak, and she will not let that happen. No way, no how. Michelle is the stronger of the two, I believe and I would bet Obama or Axelrod stand up and pay attention when she speaks.

Victoria has never been a friend of reality, but that's ok.
For those of you obsessed with polls (ha ha), click here, here, or here.
This is Obama's to lose, even if he doesn't carry Ohio and Flordia, assuming he maintains his leads in Iowa (a huge one), Colorado, and New Mexico (all states that Bush carried over Kerry in 04). So, let's not get carried away with all the "Obama is toast" rhetoric. At this point, it's McCain who is toast.
News for you. Half the hispanics are 100% white.
I assure this guy is 100% white. Yeeeah!
Seven--I am disappointed in you, sir. Just the other day you advised me not to engage Michael in my comments and I feel so ahem lilberated! Follow your own advice :)
No candidate unless he is a sitting vice president knows the policies of the preceeding administration except in broad brush. Thats why they get briefed extensively by the outgoing administration.
I rely primarily on real clear politics which does a very good job in summarizing the results of polling data--The EC vote is now essentially tied with some 105 votes up for grabs. And the advantage is to McCain.
Alex--used to be a WA state resident--is Rossi really up 6 on landslide Chris? Wonderful. Hope the voter fraud in King County can be supressed this time around. Did I mentioned I lived in Eastern WA? Grant County to be precise.

Yeah, especially when the name happens to also be the current President of the United States and the you're running for President or Vice-President. (I mean, there are sooooooooooo many doctines out there to keep track of and remember...)
I guess the fact that McCain and Palin have hitched their wagon to countering terrorism wherever it may be, defending America at all costs, even invading Russia if need be...shouldn't have any effect on them knowing what the current President's views, policies, doctrines are...that relate directly to those elements.
McCain/Palin: "Nooooooooooooooooo, we don't need no fucking doctrine information."
I swear, some of you should at least give high school another shot...that is, if you ever actually attended.

I can only hope that the dems and their fellating MSM continue the maniaical prattling. Continue dissing the one voting bloc that votes consistently. Please, dems, keep it up--get nastier, keep those attacks coming. More please. Its such an effective strategy for appealing to the swing voters.
My take: Team Obama had to move center to have a chance--at this point they risk both losing their base and losing the middle. Smart strategy, that. Oh, and risk losing the first term dems that came in in 2006. That giant sucking sound you hear is not hurricane Ike--its the bungholes of the elected dems.

I really want Obama to win in one way, yet I see a huge mess to be cleaned up everywhere and don't want Obama to be held responsible for Bush and the republicans messes regarding the economy and Iraq, as they are going to be difficult to impossible to clean up.
This is such droll nuance. You confuse execution with results and an Obama presidency would do what? Reverse the current set of results that have already been attained. What do you think will happen if Obama becomes President? AQ will issue surrender orders and politely go away? The rest of Europe will throw a party in his esteem that now they will have a brother in arms? Will you see economic prosperity increase under an Obama presidency when he's already said he is going to tax the living daylights out of just about anything that is business oriented or consumer based? His wealth redistribution plan alone will hobble this economy to the tune of nearly 1.5 trillion dollars per year if he has anything to say about it. Hell, the current budget is over 55% entitlements as it is, under his it will go to 60% or more. He won't need to worry about cleaning up any of the messes the last administration has left when he will have a clear path to easily create his own, while Biden waits in the wings clicking his dentures at the chance to bring up criminal charges against the previous administration.
The uptight, miserable old white people won't live forever. We might have to wait it out.
Only to have them replaced by uptight, conservative minorities. Waiting for whitey to die off is a fantasy.
We are angry. We need to stay angry.
How Harvey Milk of you.
I really want people like Seven Machos brought to their metaphorical knees and McCain and Palin are the best route to that.
How so? It's already been proven time and again that your moronic ideology is a failure. Tell me one good thing that leftism/liberalism has done for the world. Of course aside from 'community organizing'. You would rather hold your country hostage for the sake of political party and political power so you can have your leftist representative do what at the global/national table? Explain it to me so I can understand your ideological thought processes or at least explain to me the bankrupt ideas they already are.
Roger J.: "No candidate unless he is a sitting vice president knows the policies of the preceeding administration except in broad brush."
Roger, I realize you're older than dirt, but this is simply not true...unless you actually believe the President and his administration is running the entire show without any feedback or approval from the other branches of government.
All kinds of people associated with the administration, and even those on the other side of the aisle who have little say, but still count...know all about all of the policies, etc.
That, my ancient friend, is why we call ourselves a democracy or a republic. We have a tendency to lean towards an open government, with elections and with all kinds of people "voting" for or against specific people, policies, bills...and yes, even "doctrines."
(But according to erniecu73...if the doctrine has a name attached, they're really hard to remember.)
When did you graduate from high school...turn of the century?
Victoria,
Vinny's family sounds a lot like mine. My grandpa was a union steward and part of the negotiating team in the 1950s and 60s, while my dad did the same thing at a different company in the 1970s.
My grandparents are gone now, but if they were alive today I don't believe they would recognize the party they voted for their entire adult lives.
They wouldn't understand the hate, the blame America first attitude, and my grandma, who raised eight kids while grandpa worked two jobs to the support the family, would blow a gasket over the party's condescending attitude toward family and faith (she was a devout Catholic).
I realize one shouldn't wrestle with a pig, but a graduate of the turn-of-the-century would be in the 1st or 2nd grade.
And I think I'm about ready to lay money down that in the next two weeks Biden will withdraw due to 'health reasons' & let Hillary get back on the ticket.
That would guarantee a slam-dunk Democrat Party win.
Will Bambi have enough fortitude to do this?
Ah, so many angry teenagers with too much time on their hands. I suppose it's almost time to maybe think about saying something about getting tough with the little cretins. Maybe. -cp
Explain it to me so I can understand your ideological thought processes or at least explain to me the bankrupt ideas they already are.
You're assuming thought is involved, that is very generous of you. I believe their positions are more emotion/tantrum driven than anything else.
miller, which century?
Would it really help Obama at this point to dump Biden and bring on Hillary Clinton? How would that make him look?
I highly doubt this scenario.
As long as the McCain camp can continue fostering the rage and idiocy from the moonbat wing, they will continue to increase their lead. Harder faster moonbats--And by all means drop Biden--that will make Obama look more presidential than his ersatz seal.
Well, let me see - we are currently in the third millennium, so that would be THIS CENTURY. So Fin de siĆØcle for us in THIS CENTURY would be 7 years ago.
Alas youth. they don't remember Cassius Clay and his rope a dope strategy. Of course, Kid Gavilan, from Cuba I might add, was probably the best fighter pound for pound--but thats a debate I can have with a boxing afficionado.
No, really. A lot of libruls will instantly forgive Bambi his inability to accept a woman on his ticket, and the full-throated roar of joyous feminists will drown out any cries of "weak-willed" or "undecider" or "I voted 'Present' for Vice-president."
Kid Gavilan
Ooh! Ernie must be proud.
For me, the best fighter ever was Georges Chapentier. You know it's true.
Not like Bambi and Biden to go into the weekend without a few gaffes.
Miller, I hate to pick on you, but I see you also have a blog site that is apparently so interesting...nobody visits.
Have you considered mating yours with erniecu73's?
He doesn't have any friends either...or at least anybody who wants to hear what he has to say, so maybe if you melded yours with his, combining two dynamic minds into one massive intellectual force...maybe someday, somebody would actually...visit?
I'm just trying to help...
Victoria my lady--You are embarking on dangerous ground here. Kid Gavilan's fight with Carl BoBo Olsen for the middleweight title was one of the best fights of the century--Kid Gavilan broke his hand in the first or second round, fought the entire fight and lost it by a split decision. And who could forget Kid Gavilan's bolo punch.
If Obama takes on Clinton, he looks weak and he looks even more establishment, which would depress the young silly vote. It also galvanizes conservatives even further, driving up the vote of the conservative base.
Still further, I don't see what states it helps in.
It's an interesting election. At the end of the day, the undecided vote is going to inevitably break to McCain because, somehow, he seems like the insurgent.
I agree with the headfake, given my Bill rapprochement scenario.
You know why?
Because such a weak ad, after such a run of them, makes Obama look more than desperate -- it makes him look flailingly incompetent.
So the "email" ad is there to make the 50% of the anti-Hillary crowd in the Democratic Party (Kos, etc.) practically beg Obama to bring Hillary on next week: an unthinkable turn of events a mere 3 weeks ago, during the last day of Invescopalooza.
Enter Hillary, and this election will change on a dime again.
Cheers,
Victoria
Poor McCain. Can't use e-mail.
Maybe he's faking it.
McCain's Reason for not using e-mail "...McCain's severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard..."
Of course, a real man wouldn't let war injuries stop him.
Seven: true enough. Team Obama has lost the initative; they are on the defensive and in military terms, fights are seldom won by playing defense.
What does Hillary Clinton gain by agreeing to be the vice-presidential candidate if Obama's campaign is sinking?
I still contend that she declined the spot in the first place.
I love Ann's blog so much I have no time to update my own -- but thanks for looking at ME ME ME!
I'm sure your mirror is jealous.
And who could forget Kid Gavilan's bolo punch.
Dude, I could probably totally BS my way through an answer, and ask you, "In what way, Charlie?", etc. but I cry defeat.
I know next to nothing about Kid Gavilan, and his Shinola tactics.
I'm all ears though, and willing to learn!

McCain's severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes. Friends marvel at McCain's encyclopedic knowledge of sports. He's an avid fan - Ted Williams is his hero - but he can't raise his arm above his shoulder to throw a baseball.
That is LOW if Obama knew that, then.
Christ, where's Joe Biden when you need him to apologise very hearfeltedly to a cripple.
Hat-tip on the war injuries v. e-mail from Jonah Goldberg.
Bambi's probably incensed that the governor of NY state doesn't know how to drive a car, either.
The best fighter I ever saw in person was Marvin Hagler. Pound for pound. I was at the Hagler/Hearns fight and let me tell you it was great.
for the rest of the commentariat pardon the digression. Victoria, Kid Gavilan had a long looping right hand punch the was thrown underhanded. Much like a softball pitch. Many of his opponents never saw it coming. He fought welterweight, won that crown, and then challenged Olsen--that was one hell of a fight and many people thought that Gavilan had won it, broken hand and all--This was a 15 rounder. And both fighters did a wonderful job.
In the small world category, when I was in Viet Nam, my troop communications officer was Olsen's son. We spent a lot of time talking about his dad, and that fight.

You know, I had such a sadness come over me when I read this, Dogwood.
But for a generation of hateful teenagers who sang of love and peace, and pointed fingers at their old folks and country, the Democratic Party as it was in 1938, would be standing before us in 2008.
I might even be a Democrat myself, since without the NASCAR dads, and hockey moms, I can't stand those richie Repubs.

Roger, I realize you're older than dirt, but this is simply not true...unless you actually believe the President and his administration is running the entire show without any feedback or approval from the other branches of government.
Did you take your Political Science courses from Michael Moore? Is that why you are so damn stupid? One again, national security and foreign policy are executive functions of government. There is such a thing as classified information. Some of it is so secret that only a very few people know about it. It is the right, privilege, and responsibility of the executive to keep the secrets.
You cannot distinguish between fantasy and reality. They do have drugs for that now. BTW, have you graduated from pre-school yet?
Miller, I hate to pick on you, but I see you also have a blog site that is apparently so interesting...nobody visits.
And how many readers do you have at your blog Michael?
Ever hear the phrase about people who live in glass houses?
Seriously, are you even a teenager yet?
The most comical fight I ever saw was Mike Tyson vs Mitch Green. Man that was a farce.
The undercard was great though as Buddy McGirt fought and was fantastic. Another very under rated fighter. His bout in the Garden with Sweet Pea Witaker when Buddy had a torn rotator cuff was a classic. I was sitting in the same row with Charles Oakley and Anthony Mason of the Knicks and I think they would have been great fighters if they ever wanted to take up the sweet science.

"SARAH PALIN KNOWS MORE ABOUT ENERGY THAN ANYONE IN AMERICA." JOHN McCAIN
September 12, 2008
Palin says Alaska supplies 20 percent of U.S. energy.
Not true.
Not even close.
Palin claims Alaska "produces nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic supply of energy." That's not true.
Alaska did produce 14 percent of all the oil from U.S. wells last year, but that's a far cry from all the "energy" produced in the U.S.
Alaska's share of domestic energy production was 3.5 percent, according to the official figures kept by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
And if by "supply" Palin meant all the energy consumed in the U.S., and not just produced here, then Alaska's production accounted for only 2.4 percent.
Trooper--you simply dont have the historical experience that comes from being older than dirt as i am. Hell, I even remember one platoon football. Those were REAL men. The greatest football game other than the KC Miami game, was the Baltimore colts NY Giants game in, I believe, 1958. 17 14 Colts.
But Palin can use e-mail. So props to her, right?

*Gosh I wonder if Cheney has ever told Bush about the Bush Doctrine?
of course I have it on good authority that the NY giants are reigning world champions.
In the small world category, when I was in Viet Nam, my troop communications officer was Olsen's son. We spent a lot of time talking about his dad, and that fight.
Beautiful. Thanks for the memories, Roger. Hopefully, one day I'll get to show you the remnants of the 5th St. Gym here in SoBe. Alas, it's more memory than fact, but at least you can check out Angelo's and Chris' memoribilia. :)
P.S.: Best fight I ever saw on TV was that one between the Irish guy and the Italian guy, going at it, even though I believe the Irish guy had a broken hand too. Just two tough white guys, going at it, for 15 rounds. Perfect.
Cheers,
Victoria
Miller: FINALLY...you come up with a reason to vote for Palin.
She can send emails.
*Maybe you could get her to send one to your blog.
Day 15 of the Sarah Palin Crisis: America in Thrall!
My blog exists to perplex people like the troll, who can't imagine that a world exists of people with a First Life.
Just for that, I'm blogrolling you, Miller. Like it or NOT. ;)
roger j,
Alabao! You bring back memories. Miami is of course a second home where I actually regained and familiarized myself with some elements of Cubania that were unknown to me.
I never had the opportunity to meet Gavilan, but the older men in the barrio did talk about him a lot.
Saludos
Well, the good news is that Dino Rossi may win enough extra votes this time that King County can't discover enough fake votes to deny him the governor's office.
We like to think of King County as South Texas with a better view.
Obama's getting tough, eh?
By making fun of crippled war heroes?
Well, I know this is going to bring everybody down, but the Kansas game starts soon and I'm going to have to leave.

I used to have a season ticket to the monthly fights at the Felt Forum and caught a lot of guys on the way up. Michael Breland. Buddy McGuirt. Riddick Bowe who is a hellava nice guy in real life. Saw Roberto Duran before No Mas when he was the real deal. Saw the Real Deal Evander Holyfield beat Forman in Atlantic City and win the title off a what's his name the guy that beat Tyson. Buster Douglas. Yeah what a farce that was in Vegas.
Oh, someone mentioned something about electoral college maps?
I've been looking a this one at RealClearPolitics. I think it lags a bit.

It may be BS, of course. It has the two candidates in a dead heat.

Humor makes you more humane. Thanks for that.
Sarah Palin and I are already like BFF. She is the reason I went from disliking McCain (I was going to sit out this election) to (a) actively voting for McCain, (b) sending McCain money, (c) putting McCain signs on my acres of Republican lawn, and (d) wearing my McCain/Palin pin proudly in downtown Seattle. (I have to be a little careful - sometimes the moonbats at Westlake Center try to wing me.)
So yeah, I think it's great to poke fun at Palin, who appears to be big enough to take a joke.
Unlike thin-skinned Bambi who thinks the world is out to get him.
Question: Neither Bambi nor Palin have people "like them" on American currency. Which one does it bother the most? Who is the most uncomfortable with his or her own image?

Would it really help Obama at this point to dump Biden and bring on Hillary Clinton? How would that make him look?
Weaker than he already does. Hillary brings nothing to the table anymore. Also, he would have to fight all the video ads of all the negative things he said about Hillary. He would look like a fool. Plus, Hillary is looking to 2012 that dies if she is VP.
Sarah Palin is the new woman in the ring and the only one standing. Obama may have beat Hillary, but Sarah Palin has knocked her off the pedestal.
But for a generation of hateful teenagers who sang of love and peace, and pointed fingers at their old folks and country, the Democratic Party as it was in 1938, would be standing before us in 2008.
I believe you are right, and your comment leads me to share another story.
A college friend of mine was born to hippie baby boomer parents on commune in the early 1970s.
During a visit to their home in the early 1990s, we were all sitting around talking politics when my friend's mother told us that her generation had destroyed the moral and social fabric that had held the country together throughout its history.
She didn't know what could be done to repair it, if anything, but she had a genuine sense of sadness and disappointment in herself and her generation for what they had done.
It is the same generation, and their offspring, that continue to drag the Democrat party into the abyss.
oops--ernie-y a tu, Saludos, dont get to use my spanish very much

That was the State Repubs thought had been stolen from them in 2000. I think it'll stay Republican this time, again.

Just how would McCain use email since he's unable to use a keyboard or even tie his own shoes?
Oh oh. I think my fellow Wingnuts have gotten the memo now -- they're pouring in in droves about the email/cripple thing.
GOOD! SUFFER OBAMA! SHAME!
Here is more information on McCain's lack of computer skills, courtesy of Instapundit:
The reason he doesn't send email is that he can't use a keyboard because of the relentless beatings he received from the Viet Cong in service to our country. . . . McCain's severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes.
Apparently, this info was shared during the 2000 campaign.
Oops.
Dang, Bill and Victoria beat me to it. Grrrr.
Must type faster!
re McCain's war injuries: proving once again that Obama is one stupid son of a bitch--Go team Obama--pour it on. Harder faster! there is stupidity, and there is rank stupidity. Obama has a corner on the latter. Change you can believe in.
By "currency" I mean "paper money."
Coinage has had Lady Liberty before, IIRC.
And Sacagawea was a "woman of color."
@Peter, Victoria
I believe this is definitive lesson on Shit and Shinola .
you gotta think that all team O has is bad--like REALLY bad, opposition research--just the kind of assholes we want running the government. McCain and Palin keep doing appearances together, stiff the MSM, connect with crowds and let the lefty loons suffocate in their own bile. Thats the strategy I would go with.
Miller--trust me, we are on the same sheet here. My son lives in Ballard, and I have never forgiven him. :--)
Does Hillary have someone working on Bambi's team, offering him suggestions?
I'm having a hard time believing his guys are deliberately making these kinds of decisions.
When does he come out with his ad decrying Sarah for her monthly moodiness?
you gotta think that all team O has is bad--like REALLY bad, opposition research
If their oppo research is this shoddy, then I think we can rest easy regarding any Palin dirt that may be out there, if any.
Ballard - a universe of its own.
Of course, it does have Archie McPhee. So that kinda makes up for it.
And here I was, wondering if Bambi/Biden would have a gaffe to keep us busy during the weekend, and he comes out and makes fun of McCain for not being able to use e-mail due to his broken arms.
Nice touch!
This is removing his foot from his mouth merely to shoot it.

Tomorrow. It is Saturday and that is when his team is best at smears and vicousness.
Miller: my son paid 419K for a shithole. Like the dutiful father I didnt try to dissuade him. Dont get me wrong--love seattle; its just the people there I don't like. that and the traffic--I once spent an hour going from the intersection of I5 to the UW on 45th avenue.
I don't know what kind of home/house/condo your son got, but from what I've seen of Ballard, $420 might buy you a one-bedroom 1920 house on a postage-stamp lot.
On the plus side, the neighborhood will gladly and firmly tell you how to think.
I believe this is definitive lesson on Shit and Shinola .
1- Thanks! Not too sure why Steve Martin is so beloved in the UK. I mean, to this day, they think he's the greatest American comic ever.

Miller: he bought a 1912 two bedroom on 64th. What could most charitably be termed a fixer upper. For 419K in Memphis he could be living in Germantown in a brand new place.
We have a main highway in Seattle that was damaged in the Nisqually quake, and the Seattle guvmint & citizens are hoping it will simply heal all by itself. We have a city government that paid (I think) $12 million for deluxe portapotties that they ended up selling for scrap because - who knew!? - the luxurious johns were occupied by johns.

Roger, I can probably imagine what it looks like - wide asbestos shingles, square house, tiny yard, cracked and buckled sidewalk, and no parking.
Plus he's paying an extra tax for the failed monorail extension that went nowhere & the city ended up - again - losing money when they sold off the land they expropriated.

Well, the new Althouse child commenter would tell you that McCain should now be using voice recognition software to do his bidding. Chuckles and all.
Miller: you got it. You could have written the sales description. I used to stay at the Inn at the Market when I went to seattle to visit.. But then they slapped a huge tourist tax to cover their friggin stadium. so I stopped staying there and dont visit at all any more. Are you telling me that friggin monorail is still an issue in Seattle? Jeez
That McCain! He's so out-of-it.
Not cool and with-it like Bambi, who is pretty sure there are about 57 American States, including North, South, and Southern California.
Yeah, the folx of the city thought the monorail extension was a good idea, and forced a vote on it to make the city extend the monorail. The city dragged its feet until the money required for the monorail wouldn't actually support the monorail. So they canceled the monorail after spending tens, if not hundreds of millions of dollars in studies. I don't think a single spade of earth was turned over. I have librul friends who still complain bitterly about having to pay the taxes, and I just laugh at them. "You got what you voted for."
Just how would McCain use email since he's unable to use a keyboard or even tie his own shoes?
Look at the bright side -- at least they didn't attack McCain for "not knowing how to tie his own shoelaces".
There's apparently a virus-laden video purporting to be "Obama sex tape -- having sex with Ukrainian girls".
It's intermixed with real footage of McCain coming home from Vietnam (from a Swedish archive).
So you know, as much as it pains all of us not to click on a tape which tantalises us with Obama having sex with GIRLS, yet, don't.
Viruses suck.
Cheers,
Victoria
Miller--we should probably set our chat about Seattle and environs aside and let the rest of the commenters go at it. But I do look forward to talking about my favorite enclave of idiocy in the near future. I will be rooting for Dino Rossi however and thanks for the updates on that. Go Dino

McCain: I am not surrounded. I am attacking on all fronts.
Obama: Look, old man, I have the momentum. I have the money. I toppled that bitch. Do you think I am going to let a guy who can’t even tie his shoe laces stand in the way of history? This is my destiny; to be the first African American President. Surrender now or be wiped out.

I just had my car smog checked here in Nevada. The woman working the register, on high cost on annual vehicle registration ($363 for me on a 2 year old auto): "They're turning it into a mini-California. Arizona, too."
People escape from California to get away from, in part, ridiculous taxes, and then vote in a way that leads to higher taxes. It does screw things up for those of us who have libertarian tendencies.
I hear Alaska is nice. Not as hot.
Heres' a Forbes article where McCain's e-mail capabilities are described. Key graf:
In certain ways, McCain was a natural Web candidate. Chairman of the Senate Telecommunications Subcommittee and regarded as the U.S. Senate's savviest technologist, McCain is an inveterate devotee of email. His nightly ritual is to read his email together with his wife, Cindy. The injuries he incurred as a Vietnam POW make it painful for McCain to type. Instead, he dictates responses that his wife types on a laptop. "She's a whiz on the keyboard, and I'm so laborious," McCain admits.

Gibson was incorrect both in saying it could only be preemption. Palin was correct to ask for clarification, because it was a trap question (I thought Gibson would ambush her with one of the definitions she didn't use, but I don't think he's that bright).
Gibson had notes and researchers--must be the same geniuses doing the work for Obama. The attacks on crippled folks are either really mean or really stupid.

Factoring in the Bradley effect, the historical GOP closure, and the fact that Obama won't have a teleprompter during the debates (and Biden's buffonery), I am sticking to my prediction from March: McCain 53 Obama 47.

Roger J. said...
Where does the AP get these flacks?
Why, from our finest journalism schools.
Obama saying he is going to get tough is like Urkle saying he is taking dancing lessons. One does not get tough. You either have it or you don't. It is an internal hard wired thing.
There is a great misconception about being tough. Tough is not being aggressive. It is not defensive or offensive. Tough is not the bully or the guy who can handle himself.
The true tough guy is one who does not give a fuck about anything. You hit him, he hits back. You hit him harder, he comes back harder. You knock him down, he gets up. You knock him down again, he gets up again.
No matter what you do to a real tough guy, he just keeps coming back. Then when you are tired, worn out, and too weak to do anything, he makes his move.
The real tough guy beats you with persistence, courage, and heart. Obama has none of those qualities.
Wow, I just checked the news. The Obama gaffe on McCain's emailing is the dumbest one of the campaign so far.
HA, Obama must be so pissed. He has to bring down the axe here. What a dumb mistake. Lucky for Obama the google check came out before he made fun of McCain at a rally. Then we would have Obama on tape saying it.
Reading these comments has been most illuminating. What I found interesting is why no one here bothered to ask WHY McCain doesn't use a PC for email or rely on a blackberry. I mean he's not an idiot and there are certainly folks older than he is that are computer savvy, so why wouldn't he be online?
Maybe it's because he's got a slight problem typing. Seems that the torture he suffered in Vietnam left him with nerve damage in both arms making extremely difficult and painful for him to try and type. He also cannot tie his own shoes or comb his own hair. (http://www.bloggernews.net/117746)
Can't wait for the Obama adds that skewer McCain for not being able to dress himself. Won't those be a hoot.
Apparently because all of Obama's operatives were up in Alaska looking for dirt there was no one available to do a 10 second google search on McCain using email.
Obama... what an idiot. I can only imagine him flubbing up in some meeting with Putin.
Sloanasaurus said...

This should be repeated over and over again. People love tag lines.
I cant stop laughing about this
Obama: I am taking the gloves off. This is it. I am going personal. McCain he is so dumb he doesn't use email. McCain, the cripple, he can't even tie his own shoes.
HAR HAR HAR
Wait, even without the McCain revelation about his hands, the ad is stupid anyway. Obama is accusing McCain of not being able to protect us from cyber war farebecause he doesn't use email.....Wtf? Earth to Obama: you can't protect us either because you have never fired a gun, piloted a plane, served in the military, etc...
Funny stuff.
Lucky for Obama the google check came out before he made fun of McCain at a rally. Then we would have Obama on tape saying it.
Oh, I am sure that there will be others. If not, his campaign can always get his pal Markos to have people post trash on KOS. They did it with Palin. Then there is Huffingglue, which will publish anything that is anti-Mcain-Palin, whther it is truthful or not.
Obama... what an idiot. I can only imagine him flubbing up in some meeting with Putin.
This is it, Sloany, Joe, Stephen and others who raised this point.
I CANNOT believe that this is the Obama that we know signing off on these ads.
Let's be honest -- he's an empty suit as far as principles and what he stands for goes, but he's not dumb. Come on now.
So how do you explain these series of utterly confused, weak, and incompetent ads attacking his opponents?
THIS HAS TO BE THE GROUNDWORK LAIN FOR A HILLARY NOMINATION.
It makes no sense otherwise. He's purposely making his side go nuts until even they will be clamouring for Hillary to save his campaign.
That's the only way that side will accept her, without blinking (unlike 3 weeks ago). I would tell you that even Chris Matthews would go easy on Hillary now.
Because if this scenario is not the case, and he truly is this incompetent, then we're all the poorer for it.
The question is -- why is MSM going after him as much about this? They're basically enabling his incompetence. I'm guessing they don't want to admit they were duped and wrong, too.
Cheers,
Victoria
/why is MSM NOT going after him. PIMF.
Anyone want to talk about the Palin 20/20 1 hour interview?
There's more on the Friday Nightline, but even I'm pooped out for that.
I watched the 20/20 interview. Palin did an outstanding job. The editing bugged me. They should just play it un-edited. I really liked Palins three-part economic plan - cut taxes, cut government spending, create better oversight over quasi-government agencies (like Fannie and Freddie). She made it so simple, but those are the things we actually need (although I would add free trade, but Charlie told her to pick only three). Contrast this with Obama's plan - 1) raise taxes, 2) increase the size of government, 3) create even more quasi government agencies.
They were totally unfair in the beginning to her. All they did was repeat the tired accusations about her all which have proven to be false. But, we have to expect this.
I thought Charlie Gibson was tough but fair. With Russert dead, Gibson is really only the last semi-fair MSM anchor left. No wonder Palin picked him.
Georgie S. was of course left wing as usual with his "do you think they will be able to get away with it these lies about the bridge to no where..." What an ass. The whole point about the bridge and earmarks is not necessarily the money, it is that they are pet projects of individual Senators used by them to get favors. Earmarks are all about corruption..doesn't the MSM get that? Kind of like the $1 million earmark Obama gave to his wife's employer soon after she got a raise.
Tori Clarke was so pro-Obama even Dee Dee meyers came out to defend Palin.
Victoria, is there video of the interview anywhere online? We've had crazy freak storms all day (tornadoes included) and it all has been local coverage. I would love to watch it, and discuss.
