Bernie Mac, RIP.

I'm sad to see that Bernie Mac has died — of pneumonia — at age 50.

We were just talking about him a couple weeks ago, when he performed at an Obama event:
Toward the end of a 10-minute standup routine at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Chicago, the 50-year-old star of “The Bernie Mac Show” joked about menopause, sexual infidelity and promiscuity, and used occasional crude language....

He promised to help Obama and ended his irreverent riff with a joke involving the women in the families and living with two “hoes.”

On the theory that celebrity deaths come in threes, who will be the other two? Or does John Edwards credibility count as one?

How sad. He was funny and likable, which is sometimes unusual in comedians.

He seemed like a genuinely good guy - not corrupted by celebrity and fame. He will be missed

Knew of him through his tv show.

He was a funny man, America.

I've never seen Bernie Mac and didn't remember the Obama/Mac "imbroglio" from a few weeks ago so when I first saw this post, I just assumed that another government mortgage corporation has tanked.

Of course, as usual, it's all trickster Palladium's fault. No, I don't mean Bernie Mac's death - it's hard to pin that one on him. I mean Freddie Mac's default costing the hardworking taxpayers billions and billions as the late Carl Sagan would say about the number of stars in the universe.

Eight years of wretched right-wing neoconservatism and retarded Bushism, that you support and proselytize, has led the nation to deep economic doldrums, due in part to Bush's giveaway to Haliburton, Blackwater and other cases of welfare for the rich at a time of 2 military conflicts, and Bush's 3rd war the "War on the Poor." While the cats (the regulators and auditors) are away the mice (rich corporate CEOs of Fannie May & Freddie Mac) will play, and steal and walk away with the loot while the rest of us are left holding the bag (and our noses). If you were a REAL man and magician, Palladium, you would make the Bush administration, and every stinker in it, just disappear. Okay, you can saw them all in half first.

You escaped from the asylum again!

Amazing how we could go from the unfortunate death of a comedian to a "Hate Bush" screed in less that seven comments. Nice.

I just saw this on the news and I am sad. Thanks for posting on it, Ann.

I liked the Bernie Mac show. It had an old-fashioned sitcom feel. Yes, I enjoyed his thoroughly un-PC jokes and threats to his foster kids (all wonderful young actors).

I'm going to miss enjoying his work.

From the AP:

"Recently, Mac's brand of comedy caught him flack when he was heckled during a surprise appearance at a July fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate and fellow Chicagoan Barack Obama.

Toward the end of a 10-minute standup routine, Mac joked about menopause, sexual infidelity and promiscuity, and used occasional crude language. The performance earned him a rebuke from Obama's campaign."

Obama and his campaign are constantly having to rebuke people just being themselves, and I'm real tired of it. I'm sorry to see the passing of Bernie Mac. He was good entertainer.

Do you think Bernie Mac would have wanted John MacBush elected prez? Another 4 years of a ghoulish nightmare? Do you want Bernie to turn in his newly dug grave? How disgustingly morbid of you! Let the dead rest in peace; don't defile his grave site. Thugs, pimps and Ho's every one of you! True dat.

Totally off topic:

Ann, I thought this was cool. Something to check out every day. George Orwell's diaries are going to be blogged:

The Orwell Diaries:

The Orwell Prize is delighted to announce that, to mark the 70th anniversary of the diaries, each diary entry will be published on this blog exactly seventy years after it was written, allowing you to follow Orwell’s recuperation in Morocco, his return to the UK, and his opinions on the descent of Europe into war in real time. The diaries end in 1942, three years into the conflict.

I'm glad that in that thread two-weeks back, I started my thoughts with these words:

I love Bernie Mac.

Meant it too. Very shocked at his passing, here. RIP Bernie.

Cheers,
Victoria

Very funny guy. I am going to miss his work a lot. And the fact that he was able to upset the PC-over-reason crowd at Ob-gyn-ama's even was even better.

Bernie, you left us too soon. You were a great role model of what a man could be - smokin', drinkin', playin' cards, raising your sister's children, marryin' well, living well and making us laugh, all at the same time. And the shirts - you were the man when it came to projecting an image of cool. Godspeed, Bernie Mac.

Trumptit, you are a complete and total fuckwit. Seriously, you need help. Only a deranged lefty can turn a thread on the death of a comedian into a screed about Bush and wingnuts.

Go play in traffic or something equivalent.

Spaced the link.

When I saw the red flag words Halburton and Blackwater I sensed we were being put on. But I just skipped over all subsequent comments from poster Trumpet, now there's an appropriate handle for you, because at this late juncture the humor is all worn out. The humor of seeing how many well-practiced grievances can be packed into a single run on sentence non sequitur style.

It's the mark of a drunk. One who has bellied up and ruminated over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over ad nauseum until it all spills out in one breath. A shtik. One that goes with the practice of sucking all the oxygen out of a room.

In real life I avoid such personalities like a plague is avoided. Toxic to the psyche.

Unrelated to malevolent personalities, I finished the Billy Mays anim. It's three anims placed in a one-cell table within another one-cell table, using the background feature of tables, and transparency characteristic of GIF files. I hoped making it would help me become tolerant of Mays but that hasn't happened. He's another who goes on mute immediately. While looking for pictures I was amazed how many people admire him. Tribute sites and videos. There's some funny stuff on YouTube.

Bernie Mac is the Mac Daddy guy right? He was hilarious. His show is quite good. I was watching last night and the whole cast is talented. The episode was about an older associate separated from her husband who attached herself to the Mac Daddy to his discomfort. He stated his desire to get out of it when she took the microphone and started singing Ring My Bell. Other cast members joined right in with backup. Then abruptly stopped. The sang it really well.

This is weird. It's a bright sunny day but clouds are building in the west. A sudden thunderclap like a gunshot and the electricity goes off. I lose connectivity. Electricity returns. I'm back online reading this site and another gunshot thunderclap and I lose connectivity again. Blinking clocks drive me nuts.

Happens all the time if you have some sort of nasty pre-existing lung condition, which Bernie Mac had, according to the articles I've seen about his death, including the one linked above. Sad story. RIP, Bernie Mac.

Sounds like Bernie Mac lived a nice life when he could. What is wrong with that. Living life, enjoying the fruits of your labor, and stealing a part of heaven.

I guess the uber liberal mantra- hate is not a family value- is a big proaganda lie.

Now, if you will excuse me I have to decant the wine, prepare the rabbits for dinner, and get my evening cigar ready. I may even splurge for a little fois gras as a piece of heaven here on earth.

"Since when does someone die of pneumonia?"

It is a deadly disease that doesn't require an underlying lung condition to kill. Jim Henson was killed by pneumonia, and all he did was wait about 10 or 12 hours too long to seek treatment.

People die from it all the time.

Spare me the daft daft daffy daffy duck drivel drivel drivel. You are a major bore if there ever was one. So what if you can animate a photograph. You make more garbage than can fit in a landfill to more than cancel out any cute animation you may do on rare occasion. And you do the nasty over and over and over again ad nauseaum. Pity that your life is such a wasted dyslexic non sequitur. Blackwastewater and Halibarftown are hiring. What miserable thing can you do for them at taxpayers' expense? Make a photo of a Bagdad granny gyrate to the Sound of Music. You loser.

bob, I think John Edwards credibility might count as two deaths.

I was never a big Bernie Mac fan. He just never struck me as that funny. However, I was very happy that he attempted to make Milwaukee cool . I just wish the movie was better...

Henson actually didn't die of pneumonia as first reported, but of organ failure from toxic shock syndrome caused by a massive infection of S. pyogenes.

Trooper York said...

I thought Henson died when he caught the bird flu when he sodomized Big Bird.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Bernie Mac woulda laughed at that.
God bless you and keep you Bernie.

Just try and rape my pet velociraptor. Your head would be bit off and your eyes pecked out.

No one dies of plain old bacterial pneumonia, no one. Not any more. Gotta be something else causing the infection or respiratory collapse. I'm not speculating.

Thanks for the feedback. I stand corrected.

Very sad-50 is to young to die.

Just got back from Ptown. Had a good time. Althouse would love it there. Many gardens. Although it is becoming increasingly straight. The breeders love to come down and take pictures with Tina Turner and Cher impersonators.

I left a day early. It becomes gay overkill. Brunch, Beach, Gym, Tea Dance, After Tea Dance, Fabulous dinner, Dancing. I can't take much of that in one sitting.

Although, the beaches, dunes, and scenery are the most beautiful this country has to offer.

Also, they have a Marc Jacobs there. Can you imagine? And it is open year round. There was a line just to get into the little store. Fortunately, I did pick up a couple of blouses.

Also, dick dock is too small. I need more room to cruise. Also, because you are literally under a dock on the beach you can't stand up straight. So instead of trying to work the runway at dick dock you look like the hunchback of Notre Dame presenting your product. Not condusive to success in my book.

Other than that it is a beautiful place by the sea. Although getting an egg on a croissant and a coffee for 23.00 seems excessive.

Loved him in the 'Oceans' movies...always seemed like a down to Earth guy. 50, that's just too damned early. Peace and comfort to his family and friends.
Godspeed, Bernie.

Also, the store is Marc by Marc Jacobs not Marc Jacobs.

Also, the have to have accessory is Prada big wrap around sunglasses-for those of you on the need to know list. The Marc from Marc Jacobs individualized condoms cost $20.00-give me a break.

Lastly, what's up with the Marc from Marc Jacobs sales clerks? The boys all look like Heidi Salome and weigh about 80 pounds with hair that doesn't care.

And let's not enough discuss the cost of B&B's in Provincetown. We had a 2 bedroom "suite" which costs $400.00 a night. Give me a break.

Titus Blue Stars said...

Also, Provincetown is definitely the land of misfit toys.

And our "suite" was a dump...for $400.00 a night.

There were many "shims" there. He/she's that we couldn't tell if they were male or female. I don't care for that.

I did catch a performance from Heada Lettuce though and she was fabulous-of course she is in all green with radiches and vegetables coming from her hair.

Lastly, I saw Leslie Jordan, that midget from Will and Grace, and her act, is a funny one.

I had a hard time warming to Bernie Mac, until I really sat down and watched the show... made myself watch it. At first I thought it was woefully miscast, that the kids were too ordinary, but he was trying to make it real.

And he avoided making it super PC, unlike most things on tv today. Sad to see someone die before their time.

The plural of "ho" is "ho's," and there's no use pretending otherwise.

It falls under the acronym and dialect exception.
