"Blogging While Female: 5 Conservative Women Bloggers Talk About Gender Issues And The Blogosphere."

I'm trying to absorb this Right Wing News post in preparation for an interview I'm going to do today. Give me some tips! This seems like a very 2005 topic, and it's not something I've been thinking about lately.

Men and women differ in interests, men abstracting and simplifying so as to reach a determination (probably pretty far removed from the question in any real case), and women add complexity with things that might bear on the question, and are comfortable leaving it without an answer, as their answer ; as something to be continued.

There is in official society no very good place for this women's operation. You could think of what they do as making places, and then the male comes in and categorizes within them.

Too much of either doesn't work out very well, but there's no real recognition of the women's interest and its practice. Instead, feminism wants women to be like men; which leaves women always behind.

Derrida put it that feminism wants not a castrated man, but a castrated woman.

So making a place is to be encouraged, to make another feminism, and see if it can take root somehow.

"Althouse" is one of my regular reads. But, I find myself reading the comments less and less frequently. While I enjoy the discussions the mean-spirited attacks on you make me...nervous? I have a tiny little blog and those comments make me imagine if someone had written them to me. I would take them personally. It boggles my mind how you have the...balls? to allow them.

Additionally, I do not recall ever seeing comments on a man's blog that stoop to the levels that I've seen on your and other women's blogs.

I do not know if this is in any way helpful to you for your interview, but I have been thinking them for a while.

I enjoy reading comments and opinions from many sources. I think that a female's perspective as a bit differant. Not better or worse, just differant. The term:"Blogging while female" though seems to indicate their words should be taken at something at something other than face value. Is someone trying to start something?

Why should you get extra credit for having a vagina? Just say what you mean and mean what you say. Let the chips fall where they may. That's what's silly about the whole topic. You have the balls to say what you want. Keep it that way. (But please cut down on the urine posts, it's getting a little weird).

You don't want to be associated with those clowns. Especially because Amanda C. is pertly pointing her boobs a la you know who.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

As I blogged three years back during previous eruption of the topic, the more you're noticed, the more you're noticed:

I know I am going to get in a lot of trouble by saying this.... but the only reason men actually listen to what woman have to say is that they have breasts. The larger and perkier the breasts, the more interesting and cogent the opinion. Just sayn’

With regard to some of the nastieness leveled at women bloggers -- All the inner pimply-faced teenage boys finally get to talk to the girls and demonstrate why we girls ignore them in real life.

"Give me some tips! "

As much as it pains me to say so, I thought Jessica Valenti's article here made at least a few valid points that might be relevant here.

"Give me some hips! "

Yes I don't want to place too much emphasis only on the breasts. I do enjoy hearing the opinion of women with shapely hips. When baby's got back, you know she can back her opinion, or at least you will listen to it as you order her another cosmopolitan or appletini.

"Why yes the genocide in Rwanda is terrible, oh and you wrote a book about it, really that's very interesting.....HEY Seamus, another Guiness and an cosmo down here...So tell me, do the Hutu and the Tutsi know how to dance the Watusi?"

Does it always have to end in a complaint about men then?

It's the universal sink, nagging in one form or another.

Swifty Quick said...

Does it always have to end in a complaint about men then?

It probably does, because in the end invariably some men will cast it in sexual terms.

“What, they fired you saying that…that sucks…she’s definitely a monster or at the very least a minor demon…but I am really interested in your opinion…what do you think is better…an irish car bomb or a mudslide…Seamus line up a couple of shots….we have some opinion making decisions going on here.”

Ann Althouse said...

Simon, you realize she slams me and lies about me in that article? Anyway, I see the usual jumbled collection of anecdotes. People say bad things sometimes, feelings get hurt, the sexual attributes of women get attention, etc. etc., blah blah blah. Care to summarize what you think is interesting or new?

rhhardin said...

I remember Eudora Welty, in One Writer's Beginnings, setting herself in the car seat between two women and demanding, ``Now talk!''

Ah, amazing google books here is the exact place.

Speaking of making places.

cast it in sexual terms

But playing that is the victim card that ends it, door slams, stalks off. It also ends the woman's relevance. As if women could not withstand sexual terms.

A scene in Get Smart, where Max has locked the Chief in a time-lock walk-in safe, and the Chief is tapping out his anger in morse code, and Max puts his hands over 99's ears.

Althouse floods the field with bodily fluids in advance, to deal with that.

And sexual terms are part of the feminine operation in the first place. It's how you get men into your new place.

Sure they turn over the furniture sometimes, but that's what cleaning up afterwards is for.

Althouse's weak point is being lied about.

Trooper York said...

“Yeah well you meet a lot of babes who are in love with their boss…I bet his wife is a bitch….Why would he think she would run him over with her car?...Oh, I see…well you know what they say… if you can’t be with the one you love, love the one your with….another round….Hennessy, sure no problemo….Seamus set us up with some Hennessy with a water back….so you girls travel a lot, cool…I go to Vegas a lot myself….Uzbekistan…no, not so much”

I am always interested in a woman’s opinion”

Jumping into the blogosphere and exposing yourself to harsh and often nasty criticism takes nerve, from men and women alike. But women don't just face name-calling, they often face threats and, sometimes, stalking.

It's not something that needs to be "corrected" -- the blogosphere is what it is, and each individual has to decide if they're up to it -- but it probably keeps a lot of women from participating. It's too bad.

I've always been surprised the comments stay open here. There have been some creepy and persistent trolls who seem a bit obsessed, to say the least.

titusinfirstposition said...

I love your blog but I agree with Knox about some of the persistent trolls that say creepy things.

Trooper, some of your breasts comments above seem inappropriate and sexist.

I think was it healthy in any blog comment section is a debate of substance. The ability to discourse in a mature and respectful way is paramount to the success of a blog.

Not to toot my horn but I feel my contribution here as raised the bar and enhanced the lively conversation.

But what is so important to me is to always show respect to others. Sometimes it gets a little raunchy here and at thos times I just step away.

I am heartily sorry for having offended you Titus, and I beg your pardon. I will try to do better. I just try to contribute in my own small way to the swirling Felliniesque vortex that the professor has stated she wants to create. Sometimes when you pull on a thread, you don’t know how it will unravel. I will limit myself to censorious comments of the most upright rectitude in the future. In this Lenten season, all I can do is beg your forgiveness.

Trooper York's Catholic upbringing reveals itself:

Act of Contrition

O my God[titus], I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of Heaven and the pains of Hell, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, Who art all-good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to confess my sins, do penance and to amend my life. Amen.

Not to be confused with the Confiteor:

I confess to Almighty God,
to blessed Mary ever Virgin,
to blessed Michael the Archangel,
to blessed John the Baptist,
to the holy Apostles Peter and Paul,
to all the Saints and to you, brothers (and to you Father),
that I have sinned exceedingly,
in thought, word and deed:
through my fault,
through my fault,
through my most grievous fault.
Therefore I beseech the blessed Mary,
ever Virgin,
blessed Michael the Archangel,
blessed John the Baptist,
the holy Apostles Peter and Paul,
all the Saints, and you, brothers (and you Father),
to pray to the Lord our God for me.
Amen.

Ann,
Sorry, I've been detained today and unable to get back to this. I know it's not a good article (I thought I'd added enough caveats to my comment to make that clear), and I'm certainly not going to defend Valenti or suggest that she's minted something genuinely new. Nevertheless, I do think that her point about default presumptions made about people on the internet is valid and well-made, and that's what I had in mind. I realize that's of limited applicability to an eponymous blogger, but I thought it was worth throwing into the fray.

Ann Althouse said...

"her point about default presumptions made about people on the internet"

That's meaningless to me without rereading the article, which I'm not going to do because it annoys me.
