Oh no! That gives you access to all the Althouse fanfic I've sent Glenn over the years!

(Jus' kidding...)

OKAY, I'M TAKING OVER.

Kind of reminds me of Al Haig.

Speaking of which, I noticed on the listing of most popular law blogs that Althouse has about twice as many page views as visitors, whereas Instapundit has roughtly the same page views as visitors. Must be the comments.

You should have added a "Heh." just for atmosphere.

Do you have an opinion of the new Black & Decker toaster ovens?

Cool. I've opened two browsers, so it's Althouse in stereo.

john said...

Ann,

As I recall, you've done this before. Does this really help your liberal bonifides when you traffic in the farther right lane? Don't you think you are feeding the trolls who already accused you of voting for Obama in the primary solely to justify voting for McCain in the general election?

Finally, has Markos ever asked you to guest blog?

Ann Althouse said...

John: Deal with it.

Bruce Hayden said...

Ann,

Hopefully, you can either duplicate or link to stuff you do over there back here, or maybe open up a thread or so a day back here so that we can discuss.

My memory is that that is what you did last time you blogged over at Instapundit. The problem for us is that Glenn doesn't have commenting and your energy over here seems to wane a bit when you are replacing him (at least partially) over there.

Thanks for anything that you can do for us (ok, at least for me).

Simon said...

John, you've really got to be pretty far to the left to think of Instapundit as some kind of big conservative blog. It's a moderate conservative-libertarian blog. LGF it ain't.

Bruce Hayden said...

Finally, has Markos ever asked you to guest blog?

Somehow, I doubt that Ann has the same sort of personal relationship with him as she does with Reynolds.

Bruce Hayden said...

It's a moderate conservative-libertarian blog.

I would probably reverse that to be libertarian-conservative. Or at least Glenn's libertarian bent seems stronger than his conservative bent, except, of course, for national security. But then, maybe that is colored, because that is where I put myself.

Meade said...

Oh no.

What's going to stop someone like titus from taking over over here?

Would Glenn ever have inferred from their rhetoric that the Clinton operatives are hinting that Obama is light in the loafers? Althouse sexes up Instapundit!

THIS RHETORIC FROM THE CLINTON RALLY verges on homophobic. Machinists' union president Tom Buffenbarger, speaking before Hillary Clinton last night, called Barack Obama a “thespian," a "silver-tongued orator," a "man in love with the microphone," and "a poet."

OK. Let me know when the start accusing him of philately.

Well I was going to make some quip before following the link to the effect-talk about a "vortex within a vortex"...and it really is one.

Speaking of "inside baseball" I think Cedarford is moonlighting as Lisa Schiffren at The National Review-

Did anyone else see this-?

Barack Obama is the new man, of course. His mixed race is a symbol of that. Just like Tiger Woods — as we have read, endlessly. What's to wonder about?

But maybe it's not so simple. Obama and I are roughly the same age. I grew up in liberal circles in New York City — a place to which people who wished to rebel against their upbringings had gravitated for generations. And yet, all of my mixed race, black/white classmates throughout my youth, some of whom I am still in contact with, were the product of very culturally specific unions. They were always the offspring of a white mother, (in my circles, she was usually Jewish, but elsewhere not necessarily) and usually a highly educated black father. And how had these two come together at a time when it was neither natural nor easy for such relationships to flourish? Always through politics. No, not the young Republicans. Usually the Communist Youth League. Or maybe a different arm of the CPUSA. But, for a white woman to marry a black man in 1958, or 60, there was almost inevitably a connection to explicit Communist politics. (During the Clinton Administration we were all introduced to then U. of Pennsylvania Professor Lani Guinier — also a half black/half Jewish, red diaper baby.)

I don't know how Barak Obama's parents met. But the Kincaid article referenced above makes a very convincing case that Obama's family, later, (mid 1970s) in Hawaii, had close relations with a known black Communist intellectual. And, according to what Obama wrote in his first autobiography, the man in question — Frank Marshall Davis — appears to have been Barack's own mentor, and even a father figure. Of course, since the Soviet Union itself no longer exists, it's an open question what it means practically to have been politically mentored by an official Communist. Ideologically, the implications are clearer.

Political correctness was invented precisely to prevent the mainstream liberal media from persuing the questions which might arise about how Senator Obama's mother, from Kansas, came to marry an African graduate student. Love? Sure, why not? But what else was going on around them that made it feasible? Before readers level cheap accusations of racism — let's recall that the very question of interracial marriage only became a big issue later in the 1960s. The notion of a large group of mixed race Americans became an issue during and after the Vietnam War.

Lisa-holy crap you've got PROBLEMS.

I was talking last night to a Republican blogger who has loathed some of the writers at The National Review for years now and he thought it should be ignored.

I think it should be called out and stomped upon.

It reaks.

john said...

Simon,

I took the test too, and as I recall I score near the center, perhaps in the lower right quadrant (not on the Ghandi side, nor on the Hitler side!)

I agree Glenn is not terribly right wing, but he is not moderate either, in the stuff he posts. Ann provides a much greater diversity of political opinion, and not just in the comments. I am challenged when I read Ann's blog, and I am challenged when I comment, not the least by you (appreciated). There's not so much challenging about Glenn posts. At least he's cheaper than subsribing to Consumer Reports.

No, Glenn is slimier than LGF. The creeps over at LGF are unapologetic racist bastards. Glenn is an apologist for torture and genocide who disingenuously claims "that isn't what I said" when he is called on it.

Freder -

Regarding those unapologetic-racist-bastard-creeps at LGF who, nonetheless, are not as slimy as Glenn: (skipping the vitriol for a moment which you have a hard time controlling) since Glenn is an apologist, shouldn't you call him an apologetic-slimy-racist-bastard-creep? Or, since he had no control over his bastard status, would it be better if Glenn was just an apologetic-racist-slimy-creep?

Finally, did you have a difficult time on the playground stringing together epithets? Too bad your problem had to carry over to your adult life.

I stopped reading or responding to Freder's comments some time ago, but to my recollection, Freder habitually thinks he knows who everyone really is better than they do. But who cares, he's persona non grata. I ignore him and encourage others to do the same.

Good afternoon fellow republicans.

How is everyone?

I don't read many other blogs if you must know.

Sullivan sometimes.

My home is here and I won't be going over to Instapundit.

Today I did back and tris and of course situps for days. Abs are the most important complement to the body. You can have big arms and chest and shoulders but if you have even a little flappy tummy it is all ruined.

Now I am eating my lunch a carrot and 2 pretzels and water.

How is everyone? What did I miss?

Other than a snide comment from Palladian. Palladian, I have been nice to you and all I get in return is tude. That devastates me.

Also, both of the dogs received fabulous haircuts, shampoos, and massages today. They look fierce. Already, we received 3 complements from strangers while walking home. I barely acknowledged their complements and kept walking and just let out a big sigh.

TitusMad said...

I would love to be Dr. Helen though and have the magic power of curing the gays through therapy. She is a true wizard.

john said...

"Now I am eating my lunch a carrot and 2 pretzels and water."

Titus, how many calories a day? You're not one of those anorexic waifs that was the subject of a post a week or so ago (Abercrombies), are you?

Not good.

Cheers

That one has been so shot full of holes, I am surprised Freder can even hold it up. Notice the complete lack of supporting links.

TitusMad said...

No I am not a waif. I workout 6 times a week. I am fairly buff. Nice pecs, rock hard bis, cut shoulders, defined back, abs of death, a butt you could bounce quarters off of and a 7 1/2 inch hog-slightly shaved around the base to highlight my girth and length. Balls hang average-left a little lower than the right.

My meals are-some of which I get at a couple of health food restaurants in my hood-of which there are many:
a combinationwater/juice/grapes/banana/egg whites/ every day for breakfast
whey protein shake/with banana and starberries and water before my workout
lunch-either a can of tuna or carrots, or pretzels or a couple of slices of turkey or a couple of pieces of chicken or a salad with no dressing.
early dinner-chicken and rice or turkey and rice or beef and rice or fish and rice plus
always a salad with vegetables, lettuce, and no dressing.

When I go out to dindin which is usually once or twice a week I usually eat some kind of pasta. I also will eat pizza. When I go out to dindin I generally will eat most anything but I try to be good.

I am 5'11 and weigh 165. 30 inch waist.

I think those waifs weighs 115-125 at 6'2 and have 27 inch waists.

I have never seen Glen advocate or be an apologist for genocide and torture. I have read him for a long time.

As to LGF, please define racism. If you cannot define it, you acn't just throw out these grenades. Or are you one of those guilt ridden for being born a white American deranged people who think everyone who is not a person of color is a racist?

I do know they are anti Islamist, but that is not racism.

Freder: I cannot speak for Simon, who does very well all by himself; but my take on it is that he doesnt speak to people who are full of shit. Merely because you happen to interpret Glen Reynolds in accordance with your own value system, doesnt mean that anyone else is forced to follow suit. You can read Glen Reynolds anyway you choose--no one else is required to. Your values, like mine, or Simons are questions of values--that is what OUGHT to be, and not questions of fact--what IS--and there is a difference in that formulation: A question of values cannot be wrong from a factual basis. It's a deonotological question. You can think GR is a racist whatever; I can think Freder is an absolute asshole. So there you have it. Neither of us are wrong. And BTW: you do post as JFThomas on Volokh, don't you? If not, he is your doppleganger.

Lisa has a point; several, in fact. Not the least of which is that many leftist [Obama] positions track with previous-era communist beliefs -- comprehensive nanny-State control, proscribed speech, equality of outcome, rhetoric over content, relativism. It's pretty much the Dem platform.

The only part missing so far is (obvious) totalitarian control by a privileged few elites. Said leftist elites are working on that little detail.

I disagree about Tiger Woods. Obama exploits his "difference". Tiger told the "Black" race hustlers to take a leap, that to represent himself as a "Black" was disrespectful to his Thai mother. Most "Blacks" would rather bask in victimhood, to the detriment of them all.

That might overstate it a little. A commenter would really have to persistently go out of their way to be worthless, to develop a clear pattern of being at once trite, obnoxious, brainless, and valueless (in sum, having nothing at all to contribute and being distinguished from a troll solely by persistence) efore graduating to Freder's persona non grata status. Leading up to the new year, I came to realize that nothing he contributes here is of any value at all, that he's incapable of debating in good faith, and that a great deal of his discussion rests on nothing more than ipse dixit. The thread about the U.S. Attorneys is paradigmatic: he insists on a position that is not only unsupported by, but actually refuted by, precedent and statutory text. Instead he resorts to vague generalities and ad hominem, and it became apparent that it's a more efficient use of my time to simply ignore everything he says, at any time, on any subject, for any reason, at that's been my rule since new year. It doesn't apply to any other commenter, and the rule exists regardless of the substance (thin gruel though it may be) of any particular comment he makes. I can't ban him, but I don't have to talk to him or acknowledge him.

Or at least Glenn's libertarian bent seems stronger than his conservative bent, except, of course, for national security.

Apart from national security, what "conservative bent" do you think the man actually has? His views on social and economic issues are either liberal or libertarian.

For that matter, his views on national security are only "conservative" if you think that only conservatives care about defending the United States. There have been plenty of liberals who valued that, too.

Paco Wové said...

Freder said...

Glenn Reynolds apologist torture genocide bleat bleat bleat....

(For those joining late, the previous incarnation of this 'debate' was here, wherein Freder attempted to peddle this line of reasoning in the face of universal opposition. The final word on the topic was Revenant's, who summed up:

Reynolds' point, which you overlooked in your rush to take offense, is that the Islamists are engaged in a cycle of performing ever-more-outrageous acts of provocation against us in an attempt to draw us into total war with them. Should they succeed, they and the cultures which shelter them will be annihilated.

Freder then went silent on the topic, until now.)

DaveW said...

Whenever I see you do this I wonder how difficult it must be to switch the style of your blogging, Reynolds style being so much different from your own sort of conversational tone.

Yet for the most part it seems you guys are able to make that switch to the more pithy reporting style Reynolds uses. I think that would be hard for me.
