"The idea is unlikely to appeal to traditionalists who believe dogs should be walked...."

Yeah. Really.

ADDED: The first comment is laugh-out-loud funny. And I'd just like to say that worse than not letting your dog walk is not letting your child walk. There are way too many children stuffed into strollers for the convenience of an adult and left with little to do but learn indolence and to grow fat.

Those are elite blue state 8 lb pooches. you try to carry your average 50 pound red state mut hanging off your waist, and you're going to have a sore back and a bite out of your a$$!

Well - you've got the old women carrying dogs in purses so this is kinda like a fanny pack for Fido.

Personally I'd rather walk my pooch.

Ditto on the strollers. I have 3 kids and have never used a stroller, not once. I can envision situations (disabled child; 2 kids born quite close together; jogging) that might require it, but a carrier for the baby and a little trick I call "making them walk" for the older ones has always been enough for me.

I admit to letting my toddler ride in the grocery cart where I can keep an eye on him.

I saw a 6-year-old (an able-bodied one) in a stroller last month. Eergh.

The contraption is ridiculous on so many levels. That girl looks like she's walking fast enough that Fido should be bouncing around like a paddle ball.

Right with you on the strollers.

At the dog park on the levee, we occasionally see 2-legged dogs frolicking merrily with the help of a wheeled contraption supporting their either useless or missing back legs. That's about the only logical application of a stroller-type technology that I can accept for dogs. My dachshund would be twice his size within a week if he didn't burn off calories running and walking. What am I saying? He doesn't walk anywhere. Every step is a full-bore gallop, from couch to water bowl to the back door.

I tried carrying him in a little pack when I take him to work (between semesters, please!) but even as a 6-lb. puppy that got to be too heavy for any length of time.

The little carrying cases are popular, though, where dogs can accompany us at cafes. I suppose the dog being confined in a bag or mesh carrier is more appealing at an outdoor cafe than one running about on the end of a leash.

Sippican, I haven't tried the cobwebbing approach, but I do spray the cat with Endust and let him do my floors. It's particularly effective on baseboards. A note of caution: if you do try the broomstick method, turn off the fan before you clean the blades.

John, Santorum is on top of it, I'm sure.

Confession: I have been known to use a stroller.

When did this sort of thing become a contest?

I agree with Sippican that the new photo is excellent. Is it just for the blog? Or is there a UW publication for which you needed to update the headshot?

Sippican: How do you pronounce that? Is it Sippy-can or sip-uh-kin? Or something else entirely?

Knoxy: It's always been a contest...for at least as long as they've been keeping score at Little League.

The photo is just from me fooling around with Photo Booth on the new Mac (as was the previous one).

My parents couldn't get me to STAY in the stroller. I always wanted to push it, which of course slowed our progress to about 0.17 miles per hour.
