Pravda on Condi and Hillary in '08.

What does Pravda have to say about the female contenders for the U.S. presidency?

IN THE COMMENTS: Everyone's confessing to misreading the title here as "Prada on Condi and Hillary in '08." And amusingly, people seem to want to read about what Prada thinks of Condi and Hillary in '08. It's a good thing -- isn't it? -- that we're more interested in Prada than Pravda.

Jim: Yeah, it's pretty bad. "M.I.S.S. Foundation" must be Ms. Foundation.

When I first read this I thought it said "Prada on Condi and Hillary...", and I thought it would be an intriguing article about what people at Prada think Condi and Hillary should wear and how they should accessorize.

I do agree with the author though in that I don't think that Dr. Rice is going to run. I wish she were. I think a lot of the readers here do too.

But you can never say never. GWB didn't really have his eye that much on the presidency when he was running for reelction to governor in 1998, and so, as the 2008 election gets closer, and we all see the reality of the alternatives, there is still a chance that she could change her mind.

That said, I think that you really need a fire in your belly, a certain drive, to become president, and, so far, Rice doesn't have it, but Hillary does.

Sippican: What is up with us thinking it read "Prada"? Have we got fashion on the brain?

I thought it said Prada at first too. Too bad! That would have been fascinating.

Maybe Robin Givhan could write something about Prada and Condi and Hillary?

Let me say that I read it as Pravda from the get-go, and I won't change just to follow the will of the people.

Reading that article makes me very aware of how difficult it is to offer meaningful analysis of the domestic politics of foreign countries. Its not just the bad translation that makes the piece weak. There are so many wrong and misguided assumptions about the spectrum of possible candidates (only McCain & Guilliani for the GOP and Hillary, Warner and Richardson for th Dems?!?) and the role of feminism, sexism and racism in American culture and politics.

Joseph: The strangest assumption is that Hillary's been a big, outspoken critic of the war. I thought she was distinguishing herself by not joining the criticism.

I'm hoping that Condi's denials were solely to enable her to do her job. She's a great candidate and also gives the base someone to vote for. She does Charlton Heston better than he did on 2nd Amendment. Some possible issues with the socons, but she does have a good religious upbringing to fall back on, and a much worse opponent.

Rice-Giuliani 08!

Ann, yes, Hillary's a hawk.

Cindy Adams reports today that the NFL is working on ways to keep the commissioner position open until Condi is done being Sec'y of State, and that that's still her dream position. I'm all for it. At least I enjoy football.
