The picture is so good, Ann, that you should right an appropriate book to match so you can use it on the jacket!

No Ron, she's eating, you don't put a photo of an author that is eating on a book jacket (unless, perhaps, it's a book about food, cookbook, etc.)

My initial reaction upon seeing this photo is "hubba hubba" (for that I apologize, I don't know if it is a pleasure or a pain for you to still be objectified by men you don't know)
My secondary reaction is that this portrait reminds me of Pre-Raphaelite paintings, especially Millais, he favored pale skin, vivid backgrounds and very direct gazes from the subjects.
(that should cover both the high and the low for this comment)
Ann, are you seriously telling us you'd rather have that Profile Photo of you, than the one your friend took of you eating Szechuan??
I think most people know why you use the one you do, but come on -- the other one is primordial.

I might switch the profile picture to this one, but not with the rice in the picture.

Leroy is right, that is an extremely "painterly" photo, it looks like a carefully composed portrait.
Well, I like the original picture a little more because you look impish, about to spring something. The other is more formal, scholarly, well, that would fit, wouldn't it? It is a beautiful picture, taken with the new Nikon?
The new picture was taken by Nina on the same Sony that I use when I'm not using my Nikon. It looks formal because I deliberately froze in position while she got ready to take it. Also, it was quite dark, so a ton of computer manipulation was needed to get it to this point.
Very nice photo though my first reaction was, "Oh my goodness, she has soy sauce on her rice!", which would be considered very poor manners in Japan. Luckily, you are in Wisconsin where it matters not at all. Still enjoying your blog as often as I can get by.
You've done an excellent job then, usually I blow out some detail like the chopsticks to get there.
I really like that glancing up with the eyes picture, but time marches on. Perhaps this one better suits a multi-media persona.

What that theory was, I wasn't about to say publicly -- it's nothing machiavellic, no fear --, but I'm just happy he was wrong.
