Gerry: Thanks. I don't have questions. I was just opening the comments.
It's good to see that the market is holding.
This morning the pundits were talking about a 300 to 400 point drop.
Latest count is 40 dead and 300 injured.
Noting that the Islamic Terrorists have cited Afghanistan and Iraq as their reasons for the attacks, Blair should respond by doubling British forces in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Something opposite from what the Spanish did.
The response in Britain from the left is breathless:
We extend our condolences to those who have lost their lives today and our heartfelt sympathy to all those who have been injured by the bombs in London.
No one can condone acts of violence aimed at working people going about their daily lives. They have not been a party to, nor are they responsible for, the decisions of their government. They are entirely innocent and we condemn those who have killed or injured them.
The loss of innocent lives, whether in this country or Iraq, is precisely the result of a world that has become a less safe and peaceful place in recent years.
We have worked without rest to remove the causes of such violence from our world. We argued, as did the Security Services in this country, that the attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq would increase the threat of terrorist attack in Britain. Tragically Londoners have now paid the price of the government ignoring such warnings.
We urge the government to remove people in this country from harms way, as the Spanish government acted to remove its people from harm, by ending the occupation of Iraq and by turning its full attention to the development of a real solution to the wider conflicts in the Middle East.
Only then will the innocents here and abroad be able to enjoy a life free of the threat of needless violence.
-George Galloway
Well, there you have it!
And they though Neville Chamberlain was dead.
The problem the left has in Britain is that there are so many historical examples of heroes in Britain standing firm against the enemy: from the Elizabeth in defeating the Spanish Armada, to the wars of Louis XVI, to Nelson, to Wellington, and Churchill, a Prime Minister today would be laughed out of office if they even mentioned that pulling out after an attack was an option (even the great appeaser Chamberlain eventually saw the light.)
Spain, on the other hand, has a history of defeat when the odds were in their favor. Who are they supposed to point to for historical courage: Franco? Queen Isabella? Hmmm....
Then there is this from another Brit.
If, however, there is to be a war of nerves let us make sure our nerves are strong and are fortified by the deepest convictions of our hearts.
Never give in — never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.
Arm yourselves, and be ye men of valor, and be in readiness for the conflict; for it is better for us to perish in battle than to look upon the outrage of our nation and our altar.
You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word. It is victory. Victory at all costs. Victory in spite of all terrors. Victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival.

Excellent!
Yes, but Red Ken needs a lot more statements like that to make up for many of his previous remarks. Just recently he was referring to islamic extremeist clerics as tolerent folk. And of course his famous line about Bush being the greatest evil in the world.
