After the MOU fell apart, the military worked to reopen the strait unilaterally. The effort included several elements: Together with the United Arab Emirates, a U.S. military task force started guiding ships through the southern channel of the strait while giving them air cover and intercepting Iranian drone and cruise missile attacks. A two-week U.S. bombing campaign significantly undercut the IRGC's capacity to attack ships crossing the strait. A mine-sweeping operation involved Navy divers, Navy SEALs, underwater and surface drones, and private contractors to detect and neutralize the mines. A blockade of Iranian ports was restored....

Trump Strait now open. IEE and gadfly hurt most.
I’ve sort of lost interest in Trump. I was quite an adamant supporter. This war (however necessary it might be) has completely swallowed up his political agenda and produced $4/gal. gas. Trump seems cooked in the upcoming midterms, which means the remainder of his term is likely to be impeachment circus. Maybe he can find a way out. He has a remarkable ability to find a way out of these dilemmas.
We'll see.
**Shouting Thomas said...I’ve sort of lost interest in Trump. I was quite an adamant supporter. **
I like the results (the difference in gas prices is even larger where I live, but it's an insignificant part of my monthly expenses), but I'm sick of the bombast. Trump's most dedicated followers insist that if you don't like the bombast then you don't get to like the results. But that's just dumb. There is no reason they have to go hand in hand.
On the topic of renaming bodies of water, there should be a bet on polymarket for Trump renaming the straight to The Straight of America.
So if we accept all of this as true, does that mean that the Strait is restored to the state it was in before Israel dragged us into this unnecessary and unprovoked war? BTW, the mustached guy also took armies into Iran to seize their oil, so this isn’t a new idea.
It’s true that Trumper Boomers can generally easily afford the higher prices, and f*k everyone else.
peace breaks out.. jaqass hardest hit
Just six months after starting the war, Trump has effectively owned Iran. Iran has no leverage, no nukes, no leader, no military, no economy, and no regional support. Impressive results so far - let’s see what happens from here.
**Jaq said...It’s true that Trumper Boomers can generally easily afford the higher prices, and f*k everyone else.**
It's 20 bucks a month, dingus. If you cared, if your fellow travelers cared, there is plenty the states could do to offset this mild price increase. But you don't care other than as a talking point.
…part of the disappointment is that the Venezuela war lasted hours, so Trump set the bar high. Creates an opportunity for haters…
Witness the media coverage leaving some stalwarts weak in the fucking knees.
“More than 200 mine-like objects have been swept from the main lane of the strait. U.S. officials say only 11 of them were actual mines and just a few were properly deployed.”
"Jaq said...

This is just the usual dumb 'i hate trump' or 'I'm as dumb as a sack of hammers' (or both) summary from the left. Gasoline is not expensive.
What's important to Iran is its sovereignty, which it has so long as it refuses to uphold every agreement.
I thought Trump had already won and ended the war apparently the victory lap has lasted longer than the war was supposed to.
“Open” doesn’t mean safe or back to normal. Commercial vessels are transiting the Strait of Hormuz, and the U.S. says key lanes are cleared, but traffic remains well below normal. Calling the strait “open” is technically defensible; calling navigation fully restored is not.
Bonbast has a daily quote on the Iranian Rial. It's fallen another 3% this week to 2.015 million per dollar, effectively worthless. Goldman Sachs is out with a report today saying oil flows out of Hormuz are up to 14 million barrels a day and rising, 70% of pre-war flows. The WSJ is reporting severe gasoline shortages in parts of Iran, and wildcat labor strikes breaking out in key industries.
Trumps messaging is poor, but his strategy is working.
dude, this is why we're not allowed to use italics anymore.
It appears that Americans prefer a smooth talker more than good policy, but the Obama years proved that already. I prefer action to bullshit. If voters prefer to be schmoozed more than they like success we are screwed.
Even Churchill was considered too crude for the upper crust and got thrown out after the war was won.
I'm seeing an increasing number of media interviews of farmers and ranchers, each of whom complains about some combination of rising input costs for fuel, fertilizer or feed.
A buck lower per gallon than the Biden peak and likely headed lower?
June 2022 Peak: Prices reached an all-time record high national average of $5.15 per gallon due to global supply disruptions.
2024 Stability: Retail gas prices stabilized, trading mostly between $3.35 and $3.91 per gallon as supply normalized.
2025 Decline: Prices saw a steady drop, averaging around $3.40 for the year and dipping to a low of $3.20 by December 2025.
Early 2026 Dip: Regular gasoline reached a multi-year low in January 2026, dropping to $2.94 per gallon.
Mid-2026 Surge: A major price spike pushed the national pool average up to $4.61 by May 2026, before pulling back to the current late-August stabilization around $4.09 per gallon.
Democraps hardest hit
“Straight of Trump” is cute because private sector Trump certainly slapped his name on too many products and a lot of buildings. But public sector president Trump keeps renaming things for America. Or like last year restoring Mt McKinley.
Did you know Obama renamed 150 racist mountain peaks?

Actually, one doesn't have to be a "Trumper Boomer" to understand and appreciate what he has accomplished. Iran de-nuked, de-fanged, and de-wildered is well worth paying $4/gallon for gas for some period of time. And his strategy of war-fighting plus blockade and siege is flat-out brilliant given the minimal casualties for our military personnel.
But yeah, just go ahead and vote for Abdul or Omar because Trump isn't cleaning it up fast enough or because he's an egotistical jerk on a personal level. Which he is.
You’ve disengaging from Trump to protect yourself from the trauma of another impeachment circus.
Ya gotta stay in the arena, buddy. But it’s your country, Your choice.
The Islame-oh Commies among us™
after decades of promises, talk, no action and Obama pallets of cash bribe failures - Trump and his administration might actually crack the code.

From ~$60/barrel in Dec 2025 to ~$100 In May 2026 to ~$80 now. Trend is good right now.
"I'm seeing an increasing number of media interviews of farmers and ranchers, each of whom complains about some combination of rising input costs for fuel, fertilizer or feed."
The "media interview" sample with the built-in bias. The psy-ops is losing ground.
The Trump administration trying to suppress the long yield while manufacturing most of the forces pushing it up. The war.The tariffs. The deficit. The unpredictability that makes every lender ask for more. It is treating the symptom with one hand and feeding the disease with the other, with no roadmap, because solvency was never the objective. The objective is November. The rest is pure BS.
IEE misses Crook Joe. Poor IEE.
IEE (8:24) gives us a preview of the TDS/NYT take on these events. As per Biden, he chooses left-wing “truth over facts.”
I have hopes that enforcement of voting laws, redistricting, increasing transits of Hormuz and other factors - such as rising distaste for Karen of the Commies, rising support for figures like Ines Kanter Freedom and Dolly Parton - all this, will keep the Dems from winning the midterms. But, if they do, it will be a poisoned chalice.
If they win, the Dems must attempt to impeach Trump. Their TDS-afflicted base will demand it. But impeached for what? For preventing Iran from getting the bomb at the cost of the semi- closing of the Strait and the mostly ineffective attacks on our military bases in the area? What would the cost of the bomb have been? Iran would have closed the Strait and bombed our military bases in the region while our former allies went inshallah.
Impeached for bombing the anti-feminist, anti-gay government of Iran?
Impeached for immigration? Well, on immigration, It's easy to bring the shriekers out onto the streets: "Down with ICE." It won't be so easy to make a case in a court that the US President should allow the borders to be destroyed or face impeachment.
Meanwhile, the Dems will not be governing. Their base won't let them.
And this matters. They haven't been governing; they've been raping the states they contriol. That will get worse as these things do but, meanwhile, the voters, the not-base voters, are noticing. Many, who want to go on being Dems, are utterly appalled by California's thriving squalor, by Chicago's Murder Weekend Specials, by New York City's learing-free schools. They don't want that - they want Roosevelt Democrats back with real ideas. They won't get them. They'll get a circus impeachment, Trump will make them look stupidly evil - and then? 2028
Tim Maguire: I often think of Psalm 141, Verse 3 in relation to President Trump. If he were a religious man, I'd wish that he'd take it to heart.
KJV:
3 Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.
Of course, I often think of that verse in terms of myself! Actively. And others.
I can't trust anything Trump says anymore. I get that his way of operating is to project chaos then wind his way thru the resulting confusion. But the last six months just feel absolutely insane. Where he once appeared crafty, now he just comes off as inept.
Trump works to defang our foreign enemies: Illegals, Venezuela, Cuba, Iran, even China. Meanwhile, Democrats feed steroids to our domestic enemies: leftmedia, socialists, communists, BLM, Antifa, deviant activists. By “our” I mean freedom loving people who support the Republic.
1. He closed the border
2. He reversed mass migration.
3. He signed the Laken Riley Act, requiring the detention of criminal illegal aliens.
4. Lowest violent crime rate in 126 years.
5. He made the 2017 tax cuts permanent, expanded the Child Tax Credit, delivered No Tax on Tips, No Tax on Overtime, an abolition of most taxes on Social Security benefits.
6. He repealed 129 regulations for every new one. He repealed Obama’s 2009 “Endangerment Finding”, the legal foundation for vehicle mandates. Trump also killed the federal EV mandate.
7. He secured $18 trillion in announced investment commitments.
8. He made “reshoring” and “reindustrialization” real, not a slogan.
9. He replaced lopsided trade deals with balanced, reciprocal trade.
10. He shifted global energy dominance from the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of America.
11. After four decades of nuclear paralysis, Trump brought five new reactors online in a single year.
12. He broke the Deep State’s power to defy the elected branches.
13. He ended nationwide injunction abuse. In Trump v. CASA, the Supreme Court sharply limited nationwide injunctions.
14. He shut down USAID as a left-wing slush fund and shadow government.
15. He shrank Federal employment to its lowest level in 60 years.
16. He expelled DEI from the federal government.
17 He delivered sweeping pro-life reform. In his first term, Trump delivered the judges that overturned Roe v. Wade.
18. He got men out of women’s sports, and restored biological reality to federal policy. Trump ended federal support for the chemical and surgical gender mutilation of children, stopped taxpayer funding of such irreversible abominations, and forced more than three dozen health systems to end or suspend their programs as well.
19. He enacted America’s first nationwide school-choice program - and launched Trump Accounts.
20. He targeted anti-Christian bias and discrimination. Trump created the White House Faith Office, Religious Liberty Commission, and Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias.
21. He forced NATO to stop freeloading and increase defense spending by 250 percent.
22. He drove China out of the Caribbean.
23. He brokered eight peace deals in just eight months. In eight months.
24. He launched and funded Golden Dome, the first-ever true missile defense for the U.S. population.
25. He restored the warrior ethos - and reversed the recruiting crisis.
(not my list but it’s a good one.)
Trump has made a commitment to end Iran's war and abort the Iran-Hamasidal Affair, neither Obama's folly, nor Biden's sacrifice, not even Clinton's indefinite distraction.
Strait Outta Minefields. Iran, Russia, Democrats beg to differ.

Fine Eva Marie, but what about today. He hasn't done squat all day. Time for the 25th Amendment.
Wild swan (8:38): “Many, who want to go on being Dems, are utterly appalled by California's thriving squalor, by Chicago's Murder Weekend Specials, by New York City's learing-free schools.” I don’t see this in the Democrat infested retirement community where I live. Their focus is on hating Trump and, to a lesser degree, Republicans. Creeping facts are handled by denial. Incredibly, this includes many whose lives and property were destroyed by the Palisades fire and Democrat incompetence.
Joe Biden continues to be as effective out of office as he was in. He's that good.
"The Trump administration trying to suppress the long yield while manufacturing most of the forces pushing it up."
Why Long Yields Rise When the Economy Is Strong. When markets expect continued economic growth rather than a recession, long yields rise due to several key factors:
Shifting Capital to Stocks: Investors feel confident about corporate earnings and move money out of safe government bonds and into the stock market. This selling pressure drives bond prices down and their yields up.
Higher Growth and Inflation Expectations: A healthy economy implies strong consumer demand, which can lead to moderate inflation. Investors demand a higher "inflation premium" on long-term bonds to protect their future purchasing power.
Higher Central Bank Rates: Without a recession to worry about, the Federal Reserve is more likely to keep short-term interest rates higher for longer—or even raise them—to keep the economy from overheating. Long yields rise to reflect these higher projected short-term rates.
someone violated the PRIME DIRECTIVE
Donald J Trump is the greatest POTUS in my lifetime. It’s not even close.
The fact that Leftists can't admit or even see their mistakes is exactly why they choose progressivism and why it always fails to deliver. You don't see mistakes and reverse them. You claim success, or blame the other side and try again with a new untested unreasoned idea. You don't clean up your mess. You move to a new place and foul that, moving from failure to failure, counting on new and old empty minds willing to believe anything. At this point, progressivism has fouled the whole planet with dumb ideas. Trump is the first to try and clean up after them.
Can’t have Trump be the first quote and be taken seriously. Also, it’s shippers and their insurers who’ll decide.

It's adorable that you think that Democrats would have to have a reason.
Trump and his admin are doing all they can to bring back American made manufacturing.
The chi com democrap-tax-xi-$$$ left? whhaaaaaaa.
I don't even know where to start here. Inflation will be low but there is a new wave of tariffs which will close the deficit without adding to inflation? The shock from the ongoing closure of the Strait of Hormuz will wear off even though the oil price is 30% higher than a year ago? The massive cost of the war in Iran will not increase the deficit (remind me of how much ammunition has been expended...)? The tariffs can all be reimposed without congressional approval? The deficit is driven by the tariff rebates? I hope that MAGA's medical insurance is paying for the ample quantities of copium they've been taking.
Trump is more like the businessman president in Infinite Jest every day, right down to picking a fight with Canada. In case the novel is really as prescient about what is coming as it has been about what is happening, well then we can expect French Canadian terrorist to strike in Boston, IIRC and Trump to start selling off the naming rights of the years, so 2027 might end up being officially called “The Year of Depends Underwear.”
Too bad Wallace voluntarily shuffed his mortal coil, because he sure has been vindicated.
"I don't even know where to start here."
Then don't. You don't really need to do all that frantic work. We got the whole thesis long ago. It's always the same thing. Trump is bad for the CCP, and you are fighting back. Done. What about those Dodgers?
I think it might have been a terrorist cell of French Canadians in wheelchairs in the novel, so that should be entertaining.
Their focus is on hating Trump and, to a lesser degree, Republicans.
I think that is right. Traditional Democrats don't have any core beliefs, it is why there is so little resistance to the DSA takeover. They have no vision, and offer no solutions, it is all "Vote for me because Trump." And Trump works to keep them there.
smells, like victory
If Althouse had read Infinite Jest when I suggested it, this would all make a lot more sense, right down to the voters being turned into a collection of mouth breathing smoth brains by social media. “Infinite Jest” was a TikTok that people could not look away from, in the novel.
IEE (9:24): “I don't even know where to start here.” A non-delusional person would start with borders that no longer suck in unvetted, military age, middle eastern males and South American criminals, containment of Bidenflation, curtailment of mutilation of children, control of legal immigration, exposure of Democrat sanctioned money laundering and widespread fraud on government programs, defanging our foreign enemies, 19+ SCOTUS victories, etc. Of course that requires stepping back from TDS.
The novel was written in the 90s, BTW, so it was not technically a TikTok, it just amounted to the same thing.
Chuck (9:37): “Traditional Democrats don't have any core beliefs….” Exactly right!
More accurately: Traditional Democrats don't have any core [political] beliefs.
Isn't this the same clown that promised this would be a "six week war"? How gullible do you have to be to take his words at face value. He is full of shit. Full Stop.
Six week war. Remember when the TRUMP Administration told us that we should NOT wear masks because they don't work and the told us we MUST wear masks because they were lying before to protect the supply chain and in fact if you don't wear a mask your grandma will die? Remember that, asshats? Pepperidge Farms remembers. That was the Trump Administration.
So what makes "this lie" so much believable than the six week war or the Trump mask mandate?
A six week war.
With all the eyeballs on the traffic through the straight, will know how true this is within a couple of weeks.
The Strait of America
"I’ve sort of lost interest in Trump. I was quite an adamant supporter. This war (however necessary it might be) has completely swallowed up his political agenda and produced $4/gal. gas."
Iran is not about Iran. It's about curbing Chinese hegemony worldwide, starting with oil. Also, Venezuela. Now, it sucks and I am hardly a fan of foreign conflicts, but if he can reset the world order and China's influence with this little of heavy lifting of human capital, I think the long term effects can be worthwhile.
Can't Trump buy a few islands and become Emir (or give job to Marco) while he's at this?
9:42 - Hombre for the thread.
"Remember when the TRUMP Administration told us that we should NOT wear masks because they don't work and the told us we MUST wear masks because they were lying before to protect the supply chain and in fact if you don't wear a mask your grandma will die?"
Patently absurd to blame that on Trump.
I have wondered at the apparent inability of US forces to open the Strait, although it makes sense that it could not be done overnight. Time will tell if it's truly open.
"I think it might have been a terrorist cell of French Canadians in wheelchairs in the novel, so that should be entertaining."
Only one was in a wheelchair. The other was a crossdresser.
So basically we need to seize control of the Strait to allow freedom of navigation for everybody, except China. Trump has now gone whole hog into conflicts with Russia, Iran, and China, at the same time. Bold move, let’s see how it works out for us.
Jaq - this Monty Python sketch predates Infinite Jest.
Trumps mouth is his biggest enemy.
I think it's an open question whether or not Iran's nuclear program has been dealt a death blow. If not, then a major premise for undertaking this conflict is still unresolved and Trump needs to answer for that. I'd vote for the guy again, but still...
Bad News for Democratxics
US forces ‘got the job done’ in clearing mines from Strait of Hormuz, CENTCOM boss says
Before the February 2026 war with the United States and Israel, Iran fielded one of the largest standing militaries in the Middle East. It ranked roughly 16th globally on the 2025 Global Firepower index.
Threatening the Gulf in their own territory is the last capability they would lose, especially considering it was already mined.
The fact that the U.S. has accomplished this with very low losses, nearly at background level, is unprecedented, just after capturing the head of state in Venezuela with no losses from his largest military installation protected by our rivals' equipment, and the whole world saw it all. That does not look like incompetence to me, nor to our enemies, unlike the military disasters and fecklessness of previous administrations with the same resources.
Hormuz was mined as a Strait and narrow with dark passage a la Chicago protection services past, present, and progressive. Hopefully, Trump will pull neither an Obama nor a Biden and is not indefinitely distracted by a Clinton, and so ends Iran's multidecadal war and so opens the waterway to be safe and inclusive.
Eve Marie ref. #18. Men are still participating in women's sports in some states.
**”The rest doesn't matter,” said President Trump**
If the Strait is secure and the mines have been swept then he’s correct.
