El-Sayed WOULD make a terrible Senator. But that's true for pretty much any Democrat, not just those with alien religions and political views.
El-Sayed was expected to win by a wide margin and instead had to fight for a narrow victory. That should give Democrats some pause. If the party wants to make real progress toward winning back the White House, it needs to be more than a vehicle for the left’s ideological preferences. It needs to build a broader coalition capable of appealing to voters beyond its base.

He;s got the look of someone who would rise to the top in IRGC or Hamas circles........I have no great love for Hong or AOC, but they look like cute girls. My sexism leads me to have pleasant thoughts about them. I'm sure that they will make sure that the re-education camp I'm sent to has adequate supplies of fresh water and tofu at hand and that physical abuse is kept within strict limits during my struggle sessions. Elections are about turnout. The primary is an indicator of how fired up Dems are about Sayed. The answer is ... not much. You just need a small slice to say, "I hate both of them, I am just staying home" for him to lose by 10.

The Based Camp podcasters* recently did an episode on a political dehumanization study, entitled "Political (Meta-)Dehumanization in Mental Representations: Divergent Emphases in the Minds of Liberals Versus Conservatives - Christopher D. The methodology was interesting. Researchers asked a group of conservatives and a group of liberals to choose, from 300 pairs of face drawings, which drawing looked more conservative and which looked more liberal. Then researchers composited the drawings into a single image for each group and category: in-group representation and out-group representation for conservatives and for liberals.
The conservative self-image, so to speak, looks like a cheerful, confident man. The conservative image of liberals looks a little unhappy, but still has masculine features. The liberal self-image looks considerably more emotively happy than the conservative self-image; but the liberal image of conservatives looks like an inbred Neanderthal.
Next, researchers asked the same participants to choose, from the same 300 image pairs, which image in each pair looked more like what the OTHER side thought of THEM, and composited those. Conservatives' meta-representation (what conservatives believed liberals thought conservatives looked like) was darn close to what liberals actually thought conservatives looked like: an inbred Neanderthal. Liberals' meta-representation looks like a sad child or woman - so, they overestimated HOW sad and immature conservatives think they are, but did recognize that conservatives think of them as human.
The podcasters initially split on what to do with this information - that liberals literally do see conservatives as subhuman, whereas conservatives see liberals as unhappy or misguided. The wife initially wanted to exclude questioning liberals from conservative circles; the husband stuck hard on drawing them in, because (in this era of ever more leftward extremes) it's demonstrably happened so much in the past few years that liberals with ONE question or difference of opinion with their progressive peers get drummed out of leftist circles, meet conservatives who welcome them, and - if they don't change sides altogether - at least they realize that what they've thought of conservatives all along is inaccurate. In fact, he advocates for choosing a questioning liberal as "The Face Of" and letting it just play out - like J.K. Rowling's becoming The Face Of No Men In Women's Spaces. Rowling hasn't changed sides, but (he says) you can bet she no longer thinks conservatives are subhuman.
