"President Donald Trump has spent much of his second term putting his personal stamp — and in many cases his image — on American institutions. Now his eponymous impulses ..."

"... have expanded to the celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. Trump’s face will be stamped on a celebratory gold coin marking the semiquincentennial. His stern visage will peer from commemorative passports. Administration officials are pushing for a $250 bill featuring the president’s portrait. On Trump’s 80th birthday, June 14, the White House lawn will transform into a ring for a 'Freedom 250' UFC fight.... The pattern has culminated with many performers withdrawing from the Great American State Fair, one of the anniversary’s marquee events, after saying they did not realize how closely it was associated with Trump. The president responded by announcing he will headline the event himself, since he is [as he wrote] 'the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World, the man who gets much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime, and he does so without a guitar.' Historians, political leaders and others worry that America’s 250th birthday, which might have been an opportunity to pull a divided country together, is becoming so much about Trump that it will instead be just one more polarizing event on the national landscape...."

The left could easily make this “not about Trump” by choosing to celebrate the United States as patriotic Americans. That is not their preference.

Definitely a woeful failure to value our history and magnificent contributions to mankind. When a Sacramento politician can turn her back on the flag during the Pledge of Allegiance and still get over 20,000 votes in a congressional primary race, we are in very deep, cold waters.

A political strategy devised by the Romans—for which the phrase "bread and circuses" was coined in the first century AD—is still relevant around the world today. This expression captures the essence of what’s at stake better than the phrase “it’s the economy, stupid.”

Other than the victims of assassination, Trump has sacrificed, endured, more than any other President. The rest of us have had to endure openly seditious behavior from the new “Democrats” and their press puppets and the demeaning of our Presidency by the “election” of Joe Biden, a demented grifter. Trump’s boorishness coupled with the sedition will diminish his legacy, but he is certainly entitled to have some fun. Sane people will be amused.

The trouble is that Trump blends sincere patriotism with his routine self promotion. After all, he became a national figure with "Trump Tower" with its stone-and-waterfalls atrium. It is linked to his political career, for that's where he rode the escalator to start his 2016 campaign.

He's pushing for a sincere 250 celebration, but wipes his scent on his "territory" like a dog peeing on a post. Still, a Biden or Harris 250 celebration would have prioritized rainbow flags and defund the police and open borders -- not a celebration but a revolution. Given the 2016 to 2026 era, there's no clean option.

We've been in a cultural civil war since GW Bush's Iraq invasion and/or Obama's backdoor use of the IRS and EPA...so this is what can be done in 2026...

I really don't care about an event in DC. I would rather have smaller events in each and every state. Have performers from that state, or at least that region. Maybe a big screen that shows the headliners for the 1st 13 states do a performance together (from separate locations) and then they hand it off to the next states to join who will hand it off to the rest in order of statehood. (This may not be practical, but it would be nice to have something that unites them while still keeping each separate.)

I was reading that a sesquicentennial event this week was sabotaged when somebody cut a generator fuel line and let it run out on the ground. I'm expecting a lot more of that, unfortunately. There are some who have dedicated 4 years of their life to causing any kind of mischief and harm they can, and they've had the training to make them effective. Hard to fight that - but not impossible.

I remember the US Army parade that was entirely made up of the US Army, and claiming it was “military” suggests it was more than the US Army as a way of suggesting it wasn’t about the US Army and instead about Trump’s birthday.

Public events in DC have been "putting people in cages" since Trump 2017, ANTIFA, BLM, COVID, and organized action. Everything requires a security check and a very very long queue to get in.

It'll seem a lot better on TV than in person.

I read the NBC news coverage of this. Or, rather, I started reading. I stopped at - "Representatives from Freedom 250 said the incident was the result of “vandalism.”"

Vandalism may be a quote, but to have only that one word in quotations implies NBC doesn't believe it was vandalism.

I was going to say something really rude about NBC, but instead I'll say NBC, CBS, and ABC need to get out of the news business and just produce TV shows.

Democrats are attacking police and ICE, burning American flags in the streets with foreign invaders, and trying to imprison and murder their political opponents succeeding in many cases.

And people still want to talk about “non-partisan.”

The funeral of Charlie Kirk was as nonpartisan as you will get at this point.

"President Donald Trump had some advice for George Washington. Trump learned that Washington was one of the major real-estate speculators of his era. So, he couldn’t understand why America’s first president didn’t name his historic Virginia compound or any of the other property he acquired after himself."

“If he was smart, he would’ve put his name on it,” Trump said, according to three sources briefed on the exchange. “You’ve got to put your name on stuff or no one remembers you.”

Trump’s personality cult did not build itself. Behind every gold statue, every fawning cabinet speech, every rebranded institution stands a willing participant. Narcissism requires an audience. The real question is not what Trump thinks of himself, but why so many have been so eager to agree.

Absolutetly risible statement. It would have been a great opportunity for a Harris administration to bring people together, but there was ZERO chance of that happening. It was already planned to be just another exercise imposing collective historical guilt on normal Americans and their predecessors.
Any positivity at all would have been limited to a ridiculous "arc of progress" narrative in which the only real achievements of America were creating a "civil rights" bureaucracy in the 1960s and electing Obama and Harris.
