There are 3 groups where the majority approve of Trump — 2 are age groups and 1 is a racial group.

Rassmussen Reports this morning. I'll put it after the jump so you can enjoy puzzling and the surprise of being wrong about 2 of them... or maybe you won't be wrong now that I've nudged you to think twice:

The “Never Trump” crowd of disgruntled Republicans, like Bill Kristol and others, think Trump is so flawed that someone can’t possibly like him so he should be polling weakly. But liking him personally and liking his policies are two different worlds. Do I like all the snide remarks and insults? No. But I like a closed border, cutting government and the best Secretaries of State, Energy, Interior, Ag, etc that we’ve had in a long time.

The problem with these polls is that the number one predictor of "POTUS favorability" is party identification. The opposition party voters always dislike the sitting POTUS. Sometimes by a huge margin, sometimes by a smaller margin. The President's party members always love him. Usually.

The reason Bush 43 left with such ratings is because the GOP party members disliked him. instead of having the usual 70-80 percent "we like him" numbers, it dropped to 40 percent in 2008. This combined with the D's normal 80 percent dislike, mean history making unfavorables.

So, in order for the age group ratings to be accurate, the number of D, R, I's in each age grouping have to be correct. And so does the racial mix. I wonder if they do.

Bill kristol is now a self-proclaimed liberal Democrat. He's not a republican - gruntled or not.

It is curious that there is so much variation between the age groups. Makes me wonder about the accuracy or if a different break down might be more informative. Maybe start with party membership by age group or maybe a running average.

The bump in the 30-39 age group caught me off-guard. Am thinking this is the cohort that is marrying and thinking of first-time home buying and having kids.

The older the more sensible you get (the no kings are the outliers)

But the corrupt liar left just built another lie - and they are screaming that Trump is a PEDO!
hmm - perhaps leftists - switch back to fascist Nazi?

Even tho leftist polices like the ACA - are the very definition of "Fascism"
Leftist democrat LOVE restricting freedom, wasting money, hiking taxes, punishing those who do not obey them, and removing Medicaid benefits from those in need (Jared Polis(D)!)

who cares? right? Yo D's - more lies needed! Soviet media on board.

Two things:
1) The 30-39 age group surprised me. But yes, they are entering their prime earning years and their family formation years. It is important to not vote for socialists during that time of life. Any time of life, really. But particularly when you're trying to secure a future.

2) The "Other" in racial groups. Is that Asian? I suspect so, but "Asian" is such a large general umbrella for a vast and varied group of people.

Derve said...

What the hell is "other"?
People who don't identify as any particular race, or are chameleons? JEWS? lol

My theory? The old people just have not caught on yet to the damage in our country, the 30 to 39 year olds are too busy working/trying to provide and are just PISSED. "Burn it all down" is the motto of that age group right now? (Their hormones are still naturally strong, and the resentment too...)

What is the “Other” race? I’m guessing it’s some mix of Asian and people who won’t answer the race question. Most of that latter category would be white and overweighted with diehard Trump supporters. No surprise there.

Do I approve of Trump? Well, compared to what?

Left Bank of the Charles said...

The 30-39 age group would include people who are Jack Bennying their age - saying they are 39 when they are in fact much older (and more likely to be Trump supporters).

It looks to me like that is not an overall favorability rating, but instead just related to his performance last week. Given that the week was chock full of TRUMP IS A PEDO and TRUMP WANTS LITTLE CHILDREN TO STARVE bs non-stop, particularly on social media, I think he did surprisingly well.

Dammit, we are Trump-approving Melungeons. Stop othering us.

My son and his wife are in that 30-39 age group and both support Trump. And she’s from Iran!

Yeah you plot the whole chart not one weeks worth of data

You're double counting.

Yes and when one sees the 44 percent approval it’s easy for opposition to conclude he lacks a majority or some such but the number encompasses not only the opposition party but the hard base disgruntled conservatives that are no way in hell ever supporting a democrat. It’s a manipulation…

I mean who are these 21 percent GOP who disapprove? Republicans for Socialism? I don’t think so…

Bob Boyd said...

You're double counting.
So I only have a half a smidgeon?

I have Japanese ancestry, and the support from "other" doesn't really surprise me. I am also a Boomer so I fall in with the age group, as well. However, the media keeps telling me that those two groups HATE Trump. I'm supposed to be a socialist leaning democrat!

How did that happen?
