UPDATE: The 2 National Guardsmen have died. BUT: I am seeing that the report of death, which came from the Governor of West Virginia, is not true.
UPDATE 2: CNN: "The FBI believes it has identified the suspect, multiple law enforcement officials briefed on the matter tell CNN. The initial identification matches a man from Washington state who appears to have immigrated from Afghanistan in August 2021, they said."

Assuming this is true, commenters who says that the deployment is a "snipe hunt", or that it makes "little sense" are disgusting swine. Saving roughly 37 lives is in fact a very good thing.
Then again, the "little sense" poster is the same 'jim3501' who wrote in the turkey thread of Melania's "mission to get Ukraine to release all the children kidnapped from Russia". I pointed out that there are no such children, but that Russia has kidnapped tens of thousands of Ukrainian children. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, suggesting that perhaps he'd misspoken and inadvertently reversed his meaning. No reply there, and it seems clear now that he's just a liar.

Washington DC is therefore 25 times as dangerous as Madrid.

But based on the statistics (I could add my 40 years of experience in the US but that is anecdotal) the US has vastly worse problems dealing with its native population (mainly black) than any European state has with any number of immigrants/refugees/migrants/whatever.

A Democratic Senator just called for unity. I take that as a signal that they know the gunman is indeed from the left.

But Trump deployed them to Washington DC illegally and they didn't refuse to follow his illegal orders so they had to be shot.
