Said Sara Jane Moore, who was sentenced to life in prison but was out on parole and talking to CNN in 2015.
I'm blogging about Sara Jane Moore not because her reason for trying to assassinate Gerald Ford is chillingly resonant today: She got the idea from the way everybody was talking about it.
I'm blogging about her because I see her obituary in the NYT: "Sara Jane Moore, Would-Be Assassin of President Ford, Dies at 95/A mother of four on the fringes of radical leftist movements, she fired at the president outside a San Francisco hotel in 1975. She had hoped to spark a revolution, she said."
And here's a bit of Sara Jane Moore and Squeaky Fromme in the Stephen Sondheim musical "Assassins":

Gemini AI Says: Yes, Sara Jane Moore was an FBI informant before she attempted to assassinate President Gerald R. Ford in 1975. She had served as an informant for the FBI, including as a bookkeeper for the People In Need (PIN) organization, until she made a public announcement about her informant status to demonstrate her commitment to radical groups, which led the FBI to terminate their relationship with her.
Squeaky thought she was sparking a revolution, too. Funny how these malevolent people all think alike. Must be something in the water.
Mark David Chapman shot Lennon because he's an OCD weirdo.
John Hinckley shot Reagan to impress Jodie Foster.
Joshua Jahn shot a bunch of illegals because he was a retard.
Tyler Robinson shot Charlie Kirk because he was obsessed with yiffing a phurphag.
They're not sendin' their best...
They framed Nixon.
There is no mystery as to the motivation of democrat politicians screaming "fascist!", "Hitler!". It's despicable.
Leftists and revolutionaries and zealots and cult members will change the world or die trying. That behavior defines these groups and their bias toward (sometimes pointless or counterproductive) action.
Rightists...stick in the mud and stick, and stick, and stick...
As we've been saying. You can't repeatedly, universally invoke the worst person in recent memory and expect it not to have an effect. And both sides don't do it - even if some right-wing hotheads were to invoke, say, Pol Pot or Mao* about a leader on the left, (a) that invocation wouldn't have the reach of the repeated, universal invocation of Trump as Hitler that we've been slogging through for the past decade, and (b) those doing the invoking wouldn't be (and haven't been) the mainstream leadership of the Republican party or its meager cultural holdings.
* The invocation of Mao wouldn't move the needle in any case, since he's still so admired in some quarters on the left, and American school kids don't learn about him. "S/he's as brutal as Mao!" would only lead to puzzled stares.
"Leftists and revolutionaries and zealots and cult members will change the world or die trying."
A new pathology for the DSM-5-TR: (MCS) - Main Character Syndrome
SF Bay Area in the 70s: fertile ground for radical groups, Jim Jones, corrupt leftwing politicians, mostly shitty music and nitwits like Moore.
Why would a mother of 4 do something that would result in either her death or her imprisonment until long after her children were grown? Radical leftism is a mental illness.
The left really understands their followers. They are walking drones, controlled by repeated verbal keyword designations of the prime intended targets. The actual command to initiate action isn't even needed but often sparks from some random personal event or circumstance in an individual drone's life that says, "it's go time."
If you try to kill a Republican they will eventually let you go.
Almost as if they want you to try to kill Republicans.
Been thinking about Bill Ayers lately. Ann started UM just after he graduated, and Weathermen's violence was "peaking" around that time. I believe there were bombings even at UM in 68-69. Wonder if Ann knew anyone who became a bomber. I loved American Pastoral but to this day still have trouble comprehending how wealthy educated families produced these monsters. Or why any civilized person would have ever had anything to do with Ayers.
Don't pay attention to MK Ultra behind the curtain.

Funny how the common thread in all of these presidential assassination attempts seems to be the FBI.
I thought about her just yesterday (though I had to look up her name). There was an article published saying that "normies" were being turned into assassins by the internet. I'm not sure what was meant by that (maybe because I didn't actually read the article), but it occurred to me that "normie" assassins weren't a new thing, and SJM's attempt on Ford's life came to mind as an example.

Most US assassinations have been the result of "lone wolves." I suppose there's room between the highly ideological killers and the deranged lunatics for less highly ideological killers who aren't literally insane.
Nine months before two assassination attempts on Ford:
The Rockefeller Commission (1975)
Establishment: On January 4, 1975, following a damaging New York Times exposé on illegal CIA activities, President Ford created the United States President's Commission on CIA Activities within the United States.
Purpose: Headed by Vice President Nelson Rockefeller, the commission was ordered to determine if the CIA had conducted any domestic activities that exceeded its legal authority. The commission's findings on MKUltra were hampered by the CIA's destruction of most project files in 1973.
Findings: The Rockefeller Commission confirmed that the CIA had carried out domestic operations, including Project MKUltra, which involved illegal experiments on unsuspecting American citizens.
Formal apology: In July 1975, Ford personally apologized to the family of Dr. Frank Olson, a CIA scientist who died in 1953 after being unknowingly dosed with LSD as part of MKUltra.
Sarah Jane Moore said…
“And Gerald Ford was appointed — and he was appointed by a crook [Nixon], if you will pardon the expression.”
Except that statement is false. Amendment XXV of the U.S. Constitution, Section 2 states:
“Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.”
Ford was confirmed by a 92-3 vote in the Senate and a 387-35 vote in the House.
And Ford became President due to Section 1:
“In case of the removal of the President from office or of his death or resignation, the Vice President shall become President.
In takin a shot at Ford, she was taking a wizz on the Constitution.
FYI, for you younger people who might not remember, President Gerald Ford was a member of the Warren commission that blamed the Kennedy assassination on Lee Harvey Oswald
This will be worth a look tonight after work:
"But a new film by legendary documentary filmmaker Errol Morris asks the audience to reconsider that. It's inspired by a book called "CHAOS: Charles Manson, the CIA, and the Secret History of the Sixties" by journalist Tom O'Neill, which makes the case that Manson might have been connected to the CIA's mind control program, MK-Ultra.
Errol Morris talks to host Jayme Poisson about "Chaos: The Manson Murders", unpacking the many theories about Charles Manson, and the culture of paranoia from that era of American history. The film is out on Netflix now."

I used to encounter people I suspected had participated with Ayers et al. One woman I figured must have killed a bank guard ant got away with it (I actually checked some of the killer at large lists). Don’t many of us encounter scary people in our lives? Perhaps their born and gravitate toward a purpose…
"Been thinking about Bill Ayers lately. Ann started UM just after he graduated, and Weathermen's violence was "peaking" around that time. I believe there were bombings even at UM in 68-69. Wonder if Ann knew anyone who became a bomber...."
When I was a freshman, in the fall of 1969, at the Residential College at Michigan, I had a dorm room next to people who would talk loudly about SDS politics late into the night. The bursts of insight were especially bad if you were trying to sleep. I'll never forget the phrase "But Newton!" that once rose above the general clamor about various lefty things. Was that about Huey Newton or Isaac Newton? Some other Newton? I have found that hilarious for more than half a century.
And I can't believe I had the nerve one time to get up and go over to their door with the intent of asking them somehow to have some consideration for those of us who wanted to sleep. I mean, you never know what you're going to say in these situations. It kind of depends on how they look at you when you present yourself.
I am not kidding when I say that what came out of me was: "Could you plan the revolution tomorrow?"
Nixon thought that the Warren commission report was a hoax. Lots of intermingling smoke in all of these stories
"She got the idea from they way everybody was talking about it."
Here comes the chorus "No evidence blah blah blah..."
Another common thread with today, and maybe always is that she took very serious action based on facts that she and her circle had completely wrong. Now that sounds familiar.

That quote could have been lifted from James Jones' followers or the cult members in San Diego that awaited "Heavens Gate" years ago. All cults sound the same to those of us on the outside. Maybe a Democrat could chime in and tell us what its like on the inside.
She clearly had no remorse, which again matches up with our modern leftist.
The left has an amazing technicolor dreamcoat of great personal traits and values. These people couldn't even live in peace and tolerance if the rest of us all died of rabies tomorrow.
She was a completely irrelevant left-coast loser. Her death was as unimportant as her pointless life.

Some 75 years on, the single best book about mass movements and the people who gravitate to them remains "The True Believer" by Eric Hoffer. Three representative observations:
“Hatred is the most accessible and comprehensive of all the unifying agents. Mass movements can rise and spread without belief in a god, but never without a belief in a devil.”
cf., most of the portsiders on this board.
“Far more crucial than what we know or do not know is what we do not want to know.”
Again, same dynamic.
“The burning conviction that we have a holy duty toward others is often a way of attaching our drowning selves to a passing raft. What looks like giving a hand is often a holding on for dear life. Take away our holy duties and you leave our lives puny and meaningless. There is no doubt that in exchanging a self-centered for a selfless life we gain enormously in self-esteem. The vanity of the selfless, even those who practice utmost humility, is boundless.”
One more, in the "plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose" vein:
“Nowhere at present is there such a measureless loathing of their country by educated people as in America.”
Assassins always seem to be such poorly functioning human beings.
@Mr. D on the motivation of hatred.
Human emotions are keyed to respond to threats. Negative emotions receive something like 3x the cognitive weighting as positive emotions. Hatred involves a specific, actionable target that is seen as an existential threat.
But as always, it's wrong to hate only when conservatives hate. Left-wing hatred is always justified and necessary to correct some wrong.
Assassination books I read recently (and highly recommend):
"The President and the Assassin: McKinley, Terror, and Empire at the Dawn of the American Century" https://amzn.to/46rwThy
"Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of a President" https://amzn.to/4nroIrE

" Was that about Huey Newton or Isaac Newton? Some other Newton? "
Details, details.
I don't think they gave a fig about which Newton it was.
I am Laslo.
Yes, that was low-hanging fruit.
But according to AI: Yes, figs can be considered low-hanging fruit.
So: thematically sound.
I am Laslo.

Ask Saint Obama.
The loathing of our country by educated people reveals precisely what they were educated in: to loathe America. Hopefully, some moderates are waking up to what conservatives have known for a long time: modern education is vacuous and poisonous. It teaches hatred and superiority and cultish behavior, not humanity and humility and responsibility to become an adult. It's funny that Althouse tried to postpone the revolution because they were making too much noise for her to get something constructive done at school, but it's also a pretty good metaphor.
That Sodheim musical sounded terrible, but when I read it (it's very short), the plot was interesting. Various incoherent attempted assassins over time try to gain fame or promote a cause or a bugbear, and they are livid at not being remembered until Lee Harvey Oswald "made it big" to shoot a president.
We're a nation prone to unsucessful revolutions, then long revivals. It's fascinating to watch this transition in live time, but it has been co.ing.
It could have been the tricky part: The Big Fig Newtooooonnnn....!
You’re darn tootin’
Oh she was just on the fringes. Not really a leftist. LOL. She was a hardcore Jewish Communist. A red diaper baby. She stated in other interviews that she was glad she shot at Ford, she was only sorry she missed.
Jewish leftwing female assassians were a thing in the 19th and early 20th century. One shot Lenin. Emma Goldman tried to assassinate an American Industrialist. Another murdered the Russian PM in 1912. They were more successful than men on average, because they could play on the dumb bourgouise (sic) "Oh she just a little wimman, she's harmless".
Imagine throwing your life away to kill Blockhead Jerry Ford! A dumbo Republican who didn't have an original thought in his entire life, and believed 100 percent in every Goddamn thing the Liberal Establishment believed in.
Had she succeeded we would have gotten "appointed not elected" Rockefeller, who believed in everything Ford did.
’Could you plan the revolution tomorrow?’
Golf clap.
Indeed, Wendybar. Imagine all the important people who had to lie, and a few decent ones like Michelle Obama's mother and the young Obama girls, in order to conceal the fact that the Obamas spent several nights a week for eight years with Ayers, Dohrn, and the Khalidis. After the humiliations revealed about Obama's calculating courtship of Michelle (he told a white girlfriend whom he tried to marry that he would need a black wife to compete in politics), and the revelations of his brief affair and years of loving letters to her, I hope Michelle just dumps out the whole story, out of respect for her perfectly normal and middle-class family of birth. That would certainly change a lot of history.
“ but to this day still have trouble comprehending how wealthy educated families produced these monsters. Or why any civilized person would have ever had anything to do with Ayers.”
The disgusting thing about Ayers is that his dad was ceo of Con Ed in Illinois and he used every but of influence and money necessary to get away with his violent crimes using political deals. Daddy did not want him to go to jail. But the people he influenced got blown up by amateur bomb making and went to jail, what a hero Ayers was.
Interesting detail about Ayers: he had always planned to go into education. Taught kindergarteners for a while. He took to heart the communist notion that you destroy your country through their children, after breaking down the family.
So Michelle is a DEI wife?
That stuff controls everything they do.
Assassins was produced twice: 1990 and 2004. Republicans were President both times (Bush & Bush). I can imagine the reaction had it been produced in, say, 2014. Or 2025, on the other hand.
RCOCEAN II: They were more successful than men on average, because they could play on the dumb bourgouise (sic) "Oh she just a little wimman, she's harmless".
Just wait until women rediscover poison. See ancient Rome. Women have had freedom of movement among men and across tribes since the dawn of history. "She's so petite and weak, she can't hurt me. She's just the servant/maid."
"modern education is vacuous and poisonous"
US education is a huge negative factor in terms of economics and social stability. I advise you to get rid of it, university education especially.
"I am not kidding when I say that what came out of me was: "Could you plan the revolution tomorrow?""
hahaha!

Obama is such a piece of shit.
Nobody did more to make racial division and hatred the defining political leftist political movement in our country.
Obama was the symbolic killer of JFK. He is what turned the Democrat party into the violent evil loathe some movement it is today.
Love this fun post, Ann's story and book recommendations. Maybe I'm shallow, but if one is young, educated, well-off, healthy, has a loving bf/gf, lives in U.S., and you still work yourself up to murder someone, then there is just something incredibly and irredeemably wrong with you.
Abortive ideation. A human rite. Progressive.
Cult members hear dog whistles, then act on them.
An AWFL before there were AWFLs. Another good riddance story.
Hassayamper wondered why a mother of four children would do something that would result in her death or imprisonment.
Here's another one:
Kathy Boudin took her 14 month old son Chesa to a babysitter before participating in the Brinks robbery. She served 23 years in prison. Chesa's father was not released from prison until 2021.
