"The apparent capture of a person of interest in the Charlie Kirk shooting, announced just now by President Trump...."

"A man in his 20s was taken into custody at about 11 p.m. local time on Thursday night by Utah state and local police.... Announcements of major arrests often come at orchestrated news conferences, but in this case, President Trump announced the arrest on Fox and Friends, and cautioned that his information was preliminary...."

Updates at the NYT just now.

ADDED:

Trump says that the man's father "got involved... and said we’ve got to go in. I understand it’s subject to change, but the facts are the facts. We have the person we think we’re looking for. They drove into the police headquarters, and he’s there now."

ALSO: People on X are focusing on this guy, who is awful whether he's the murderer or not:

MORE: I don't think the man in that video looks like the mugshot of the arrested man, Tyler Robinson.

Do you think the NYT realizes just how out of the info loop they are? That the president has established a direct-to-consumer version of "news"? The "news" business has been reduced to quoting social media (is there a theme today?) or cable outlets that have the principle actors speaking for themselves.

Did ICE really kidnap the innocent brown soccer coach? Wait 10 minutes and ICE will be on X giving the actual warrant particulars for the criminal illegal alien. Kirk's murder is not the ONLY reason we have gone from from full tilt "jack booted thugs!" claims that were ubiquidous just recently to crickets. Consumers have fakenews fatigue and just tune the talking heads out until we get the facts from the people we hired to do the work. Those facts very rarely require correction later, unlike "news" stories from anonymous sources and "BLS statistics.".

Yes, when a progressive leftist is the vicious assassin that slaughters the unarmed, peaceful conservative in front of his young children, we must always be concerned about the Conservative Reaction. We should all remain worried and deeply frightened of them, those haters.

Famously exiled from his country to an island in sea, by the new leadership of the country of France.

Exile is common throughout history. Human beings know that sometimes, the best way to handle some people is to separate yourself from them. Exile this is called.

We can do this to Chuck Schumer and Barack Obama.

We are not required to allow them to shit all over our country and facilitate political assassinations by telling people that Democracy Itself is At Stake and that Donald Trump is Hitler and a Fascist Dictator.

We can throw these men the fuck OUT of our country the minute we grow the balls to do it.

@Althouse, yesterday you wrote a post that seemed to rebuke Donald Trump for not taking a couple days to reflect and for not calling for unity. Then today Instapundit links to Chris Bray’s Substack, where he mined BlueSky for the hardcore left’s reaction. Thanks to Bray I read all sorts of justification for Charlie Kirk’s shooting, mostly as variations of “Kirk was a Nazi c*nt” and thus he deserved to be shot.

I think Trump is smarter than you or I, and more wise. There is no “unity” with people like that. They want war.

And to quote Jim Treacher (to whom I do subscribe), “ Murder Is Wrong, Even If You're Angry About Losing a Debate.”

Trying to get to the truth through the deluge of phantasmagoric propaganda that the Democrats rain down on us is like trying to get someplace in a hurry in LA traffic. I blame their dishonest propaganda, I mean for example "Abolish ICE" as a slogan, why not "Abolish Immigration Laws" instead? Well, because people might think on that one for a minute, it's this cult management propaganda that the Democrats use, to keep people from actually thinking, and to demonize the opposition, that leads to the kind of blind rage that keeps showing up from Democrat supporters.

And J6 was a false flag psy-op. Agent provocateurs are as old as civilization.

FormerLawClerk said...

if he was in hiding, how did Dad find him?

Obviously, he wasn't in hiding. That's the thing about killing someone - you leave clues all over the place, even in your absence. Especially in your absence.

Dad knew the kid was nowhere to be found DURING the murder. Dad knew the kid's politics. Dad knew the kid may have been a transvestite pervert. Dad knew the kid had that same shirt. Dad knew the kid had rifle experience. Dad knew the kid suddenly showed up home AFTER the murder. Dad knew his rifle was missing (or son's).

Not too hard to put 2 and 2 together.

If what we're hearing about a pastor is true the kid may even have confessed to his father and priest already, knowing that he's destined for an eternity of fire and obviously wanting to get out of the consequences of his actions.

This is right out of the antifa playbook and what was Kirk was fighting against. Anyone who steps out of line is a "Nazi." You assume I am somehow a "lefty" (whatever equivalent you have to calling someone a Nazi) who you suggest deserves violence (removed from society!).

For my words. Without a shred of irony.

Rightwing antifa. The juicy irony is that the Founding Fathers would have hung your authoritarian ass upside down by a tree and gutted you like a fish. And, Charlie Kirk would have thought you are a knob.

It is gross how most of the Althouse commentariat is so eager to see Mr. Kirk’s death as a way to declare war on the left. Althouse will surely quickly move on when it is discovered that the loser's motives (if he had any) do not connect him to the left. He looks like he is just another warped gun nut.

We are over that.

Funny how many Democrats sill maintain that 2016 and 2024 were "stolen" and not just blog commenters, but people in leadership positions in the Democratic Party.

It's all projection with you guys, all of it is projection, to keep people from being able to think clearly about what is and is not true. It's how cults operate.

That's the NYT, reporting on the arrest of a suspect less than 48 hours after the assassination, assuming that the FBI had nothing to do with it. That's what they consider appropriate as news. Not that they would do any 'embattling' themselves, you understand.

So, average white boy? No foreign ethnicity? So far no LGBTQ connection? And while you could find dozens of suspects on the internet based on their posts, this case required someone who knew the killer IRL for a solution. On the other hand, though, did he find a home at USU's DSA chapter? So maybe he wasn't an anomic loner?

Is it so surprising that the authorities weren't able to immediately catch the killer? Crowds and chaos, and he had a head start. 60 years ago, everyone was watching the Kennedy assassination aftermath on television, and Oswald still had time to go downtown, catch part of a movie, and shoot a policeman. The killer this time was seen on video limping down a residential street, an advance over Kennedy-era law enforcement.

You know that it wasn't Oswald, whose last words, captured on camera before he was killed before he could talk to much, were "I'm a patsy! I need a lawyer!"

It wouldn't surprise me at all that the murder of RFK was to deny him the power to investigate his brother's murder, and the guy who ramrodded the coverup in Congress, Ford, was rewarded with the Presidency after they similarly removed Nixon from power, for the same crimes of believing that he was actually the man in charge of foreign policy.

FLC is just a fountain of misinformation about history. The French did not exile Napoleon either to Elba or St. Helena.

The places and conditions of both exiles were decided by the victorious Allies--in 1815 specifically the most powerful, the most constant, and the most generous of them.

No argument is improved by reference to historic events that never happened.

Nope, just MSNBC connections. Maddow fan boi. AOC accolyte. Bernie Bro.

Radicalized by the left-wing companies in America like NBC and CNN who are making big bank destroying the country. It's time for Donald Trump to nationalize some of these organizations and clean house. Maybe in two or three murders that are planned for the next few months ... once those occur ... Trump will be forced to act. So far he's been pretty weak toast.

The killer appears to disdain the gays. He wrote on one of the bullets: "If you can see this, you're gay."

But of course, he lived with another man ... soooooooo you know. If you know you know. So he's clearly using "gay" as a pejorative.

He's definitely an incel simp. He looks exactly like Beavis (sort of a young Beto O'Rourke) and no chick finds that attractive.

But if you do you have to point out a single place where they did the same for us in good faith.

Wince said...

FormerLawClerk said...
By the way, the NY Times slandered Kirk this morning calling him an anti-Semite in this story... But of course, the damage is already done, so hopefully the family is paying attention to the MASSIVE LAWSUIT they could being for slander against the New York Times.

In most, if not all jurisdictions you cannot defame the dead, libel or slander.

in the United States, you generally cannot slander a dead person because defamation requires an injury to a living person's reputation, which the deceased no longer possesses. While such statements are considered reprehensible and may harm the memory of the deceased or impact the family, they do not constitute legal defamation.

However, living family members may have a cause of action if the defamatory statements also harm their own reputations.

Why Defamation of the Dead Is Not Allowed
Personal nature of defamation: The core purpose of defamation law is to protect an individual's reputation from damage. Since a deceased person no longer has a reputation in the legal sense, there is no living person to be defamed.

No legal standing: Only living individuals can initiate defamation lawsuits. A dead person's estate or family cannot sue on their behalf, as the right to sue for defamation does not typically "survive" the death of the plaintiff.

Potential Avenues for Harmed Survivors
Direct defamation of survivors: If the false statement made about the deceased also defames a living family member or associate by harming their reputation, that living person may have their own defamation claim.

Right of publicity claims: In some cases, family members or estates of deceased personalities may pursue claims for post-mortem violations of the right of publicity if their commercial value or image was exploited without permission.
Emotional distress: While not defamation, families experiencing distress from statements made about their deceased relatives may explore other legal avenues depending on the circumstances and jurisdiction, particularly in certain international legal contexts.

What If the Defamed Person Died Before Suing?
In many states, a defamation lawsuit filed by a living person would end if that person died before the case went to judgment. However, the specific laws (known as survival statutes) vary by state, and in some instances, a claim might continue under specific conditions.

In most, if not all jurisdictions, you can make the New York Times eat shit for months on end while you drag them through the mud with your pointless lawsuit and ultimately get rich through a huge 7-figure payout to drop your suit due to the bad publicity it will generate for the New York Times.

The process is the punishment, pal.

15 minutes? So, 14 minutes after the killer had gone. They also got delayed in looking for him because someone falsely confessed.

They put out photos and his father recognized him. What did you want them to do? Follow his trail with bloodhounds? They already knew where he went and what car he drove. I think they would have been able to track him down eventually with what they had, but his father saw the photos and convinced his son to turn himself in.
