Writes Maura Judkis, in "Who’s your daddy? These days, who isn’t? Mack daddy, leather daddy, sugar daddy, Daddy Trump: The fraught and Freudian journey of a domineering archetype" (WaPo).
Gates = Bransen Gates, an Instagrammer who lipsynchs to Trump audio and demonstrates, comically, that Trump was born to be a gay man.
Perhaps you, like me, remember the phrase "Daddy's Home" as the title of a lovely doowop song from 1961 by Shep & the Limelites, so: here.
Even better:
And here's an article from last February that Judkis links to: "The 'Daddy' Party Is Scaring the Hell Out of the Family/Republicans portray Trump as the nation’s 'daddy,' a disciplinarian father who’s going to get America’s house in order. The analogy is more revealing than they realize" by Susan Milligan, who duly credits Chris Matthews for beginning the "Mommy Party"/"Daddy Party" conversation, here, in 1991.
1991, that was when Bill Clinton was arriving on the scene. I wonder if Matthews, like Judkis, thought Clinton was something deserving of the word "daddy."

Personally, I find the attitude of looking at politicians as parental figures repulsive. It reminds me of the Pony Haired Guy at one of the Bush/Clinton 92 town hall debates who asked the candidates to look at us as if we were their children. Sorry, but I'm a grown ass man. I don't need any politician to try and tell me how I should live and what to think.

Gutfeld's opening monologue and jokes - pitch perfect on Mandani.
lol to Bresden Gates. that is hilarious.
This is gross. Maybe it's grosser because it's a religious thing? Psalms 68:5 states "A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling". These dudes think they're God?
Bransen - not Bresden. wft?
Sugar daddy.
Baby daddy. Planned/Aborted/Cannibalized/Sequestered.
Daddy's fault.

Two daddies and a rent-a-womb.
After the NATO chief's comments, the only "daddy" that's legit is Trump. He's the frickin' pater familias.
Dreams of Her Daddy? #NoJudgment #NoLabels
Daddy long legs.
The Zombies posed the question "Who's your daddy?" And Trump answers the follow up question "Is he rich like me?" Well yes, yes he is....
Mommy, daddy, and baby makes three.
We are talking about the standard virtuous masculine leader. There has been a void in our country of virtuous masculine leadership and this has led to ruin.
Clinton was not a virtuous masculine leader. He was a scummy predator who raped women. Obama was obviously not masculine or virtuous. The Bushes were stupid simps.
Trump is bringing back the idea that you say something and then you do it. He is doing exactly what he said he would do in the campaign.
Shady predators and liars like Clinton and Obama hate it. Obama knowingly lied to his voters repeatedly. He treated the country with contempt. Clinton tried to redefine the word Is.
Women do not really understand this paradigm. That is why they vote for liars and rapists like Clinton and Obama and that is why women need a Dad to raise them and tell them the truth about the world and how the world works.
Trump is currently putting the country back on the right track by telling Karen to shut the fuck up and putting the predators and liars in their place. That is why the Daddy description works here.
Barack calls Michelle daddy. Prove me wrong.
Zorro Mandamus isn't a parent, therefore by default he's still a child. People whom look at political figures as Mom or Dad are by definition children.
It looks like penis envy to me.
This is a conversation Democrats would rather have, after 4 years of "who will tell Grandaddy he can no longer drive?"
"...The analogy is more revealing than they realize" ..
Why yes, Susan, your description of this phenomenon is rather revealing.
This is the feminization of politics: once-serious newspapers like the WaPo and NYT that now seem incapable of analyzing issues of national importance other than through the lens of sexual or family psychodrama.
Big Brother is now Big Daddy.
Daddy is a role for a responsible adult. Obama and Slick Willy do not fulfill that role, either in their politics or their personal behaviors. The architect of Fast & Furious gunrunning and a hedonistic weathervane missed out on the "responsible" aspect of the role.
Anthropologically, that may be where government comes from. King Charles, who studied anthropology in college, apparently still thinks of himself as Britain's meddlesome dad, though he confines his interventions to marginal matters.
Daddy's little "burden". h/t Obama
If Trump is so virtuous, why did he back off deficit reduction in the BBB and denutted Doge after Kash refused to release the Epstein files and Bondi denied the existence of a client list? Netanyahu felt comfortable attacking Iran once Mossad sent the memo to the Trump administration. Trump might be Daddy for some, but he's Israel's bitch.

Nope. Zohran is a mother.
Literally none of these people are mentioning that Kamala Harris paid $100,000 to go on a podcast named "Call Her Daddy."
Just my opinion but Obama and Clinton are the most dishonest, corrupt, amoral individuals to hold the office in my lifetime (which includes Nixon and LBJ). So, not fit to be anybody's daddy.
FormerLawClerk said, "Literally none of these people are mentioning that Kamala Harris paid $100,000 to go on a podcast named 'Call Her Daddy.'"
They're probably trying to ensure that people - especially donors - don't remember the disgustingly plastic fakery that $100k buys you among the tasteless 20-30 something American bimbo demographic.
"I wonder if Matthews, like Judkis, thought Clinton was something deserving of the word "daddy."
Webb Hubble could not be reached for comment.
a little tongue in cheek humor,
yes Obama could campaign on that slithy tove Bubba the Love sponge, and they found it enterprising,
I'm amused when it's suggested Obama is capable of running schemes. Everything about Obama strikes me as an empty suit run by others, as empty as Old Joe's brain and as full of shit as his...

The United States got at least as much out of the defenestration of Iran as Israel did. We were on the hook for keeping the shipping lanes open and we have several bases in the Middle East protecting smaller countries like Qatar and Oman from Iran.
The United States will have far less to do in the Middle East now saving resources and treasure.
And Israel did almost all of the work. We got everything we wanted and had to run one mission which was more of a football spike than anything else that happened. Israel gave us the freedom to maneuver that made that mission possible and we got all of the credit.
Israel was clearly our bitch in this situation.
Big Brother is now Big Daddy.
That's a catchy bumper sticker, but how does it apply? Is it Trump (or his supporters) who demands not just compliance but thought-purity? Does he even demand compliance? Nobody is being debanked because of Trump-hatred. Nobody is losing a job over it (truth: no one is losing a job solely because of hating Trump, though some are losing jobs because their Trump-hatred is leading them to do illegal things). Nobody is being deplatformed over a lack of Trump support, though I understand some platforms are still cancelling those who don't express their opposition to Trump in sufficiently absolute terms.
So - how has Big Brother become Big Daddy?
Unless you meant that the Biden administration, and the Deep State that preceded it and is clinging to power still, were Big Brother, and now we must contend with a different dynamic from the previous thought-policing. Which I'll grant you.
Cubs pitcher Rick Reuschel was called Big Daddy.
Hoosier Daddy.
Achilles, Bush 41 was not a stupid simp. He was the youngest pilot in the US Navy. Willingly dropped out of Yale to sign up to fly a suicidal aircraft, and survived a shoot down.
Many people mistake his Anglo calm quiet for weakness. I didn’t think you would.
Of course one can disagree with his policies. But not his virtu (in the Roman sense)

I always found the use of 'momma' in various 1970s song lyrics to be a bit creepy, unless you were literally singing about a mother.
Random daddy/mommy issues:
I wish Eartha Kitt could have been my mommy, in her leather catsuit. She could have spanked me with her cat o’nine tails.
In the 70s there was a prime time cartoon called Wait Till Your Father Gets Home.
In the 90s US News put Harold Ford Jr on the cover with the headline Not Your Daddy’s Democratic Party. The word Daddy was in the biggest type.

I will take back the comment on the elder. I was more aiming at his idiot scions.
He was still a scumbag globalist in general but he didn’t do wrong by the military. Not like his son who betrayed us.
Clinton, W, and Obama are daddies without sons. It shows.
Did Tucker really say that? Fact check needed. This isn't an objective newspaper, its the WaPo.
Did Judkis get out her knee pads while clinton and obama were in office. What freaks these leftists are. If they're not talking about giving their leaders "blow jobs" then they're calling them "Daddy".
What's remarkable about our Baby boomer Presidents is their complete lack of Gravitas. Bush was a drunk driving dope, Clinton a skirt chasing goof, Obama an oddball who was obsessed with Golf and Basketball. And Trump, frankly is a bit of a clown. And of course there's that non-boomer Biden. Who fell off his bike and couldn't help lying or telling tall tales every time he spoke.
None of them seemed to know how to act like a grown up. Not that it really matters.
BTW since we're talking about Presidents, past and present. I don't think Althouse blogged about Bush teaming up with Obama to compliment the fired USAID workers and attack Trump. Globalist Bush can always be counted on to stick up for something that helps the Democrats and hurts average Americans.
Bush 41 wasn't a wimp. He was a liar. We now know he was a great friend of Bill Clinton and considered him a son. Anyway, Bush wasn't a conservative - he just played one on the campaign trail. And he was basically a Moderate Democrat who liked big Business. That's why he was so wimpy and reluctant to fight. He either didn't give a damn, or secretly supported the Democrats.
Anglo calm doesn't work in 21st century politics. And its often a cover for people too gutless to fight about anything. Republican Anglo calm is why we got Trump. He fights.
Iman, I discovered that years ago and played it for my daughter . It's a great song with great lyrics.
Not Okay With Me: "Choke me, Daddy." Ewwww
Okay with me, in the kitchen or bedroom: "Oui, Chef!"
of course she did, like those that offered to service bill clinton, if he kept abortion legal or something,
It was just the other day that the NATO secretary general was calling Trump “Daddy.”
"Who is your daddy and what does he do?"
Like usual, the media gets it wrong again. As Ann Althouse pointed out a few years ago, Obama wasn't a father figure, he was a boyfriend figure.
Achilles, thanks for the retraction. But now I disagree with you on something else: 41 "was still a scumbag globalist in general but he didn’t do wrong by the military"
He tried to get me killed! That's kind of doing wrong by the military!
Hee hee

The Declaration and the Constitution construct the country as a free association of equals, not some kind of pseudo-family.
Nothing but bullshit from these Democrats!

“It's a great song with great lyrics.”
It is, Marcus. I hadn’t heard it in a few decades, but the subject matter brought it quickly to mind.
So - how has Big Brother become Big Daddy?
Good luck getting an answer from Mr. True Conservative.
I had a colleague that referred to his wife, to his peers at work, as "Momma". I depised it.
The phrase is "party elders." I don't think Harry Truman and Herbert Hoover, Barry Goldwater and Hubert Humphrey thought of themselves as the "daddies" of people they hadn't even met or that when Madison or Monroe wanted advice they'd ever think of sitting on Papa Jefferson's lap.
Harold Ford sort of is your daddy's Democratic Party. That's why he's on Fox News now, where daddy can watch him.
Father Knows Best.
