The UK supreme court has ruled that the terms 'woman' and 'sex' in the Equality Act refer to a biological woman and biological sex....

"Five judges from the UK supreme court ruled unanimously that the legal definition of a woman in the Equality Act 2010 did not include transgender women who hold gender recognition certificates (GRCs). In a significant defeat for the Scottish government, the court decision will mean that transgender women can no longer sit on public boards in places set aside for women. It could have far wider ramifications by leading to much greater restrictions on the rights of transgender women to use services and spaces reserved for women, and prompt calls for the UK’s laws on gender recognition to be rewritten. The UK government said the ruling 'brings clarity and confidence' for women and those who run hospitals, sports clubs and women’s refuges. A spokesperson said: 'We have always supported the protection of single sex spaces based on biological sex. Single-sex spaces are protected in law and will always be protected by this government...."

The Guardian reports.

"The gender critical campaign group For Women Scotland, which is backed financially by JK Rowling, said the Equality Act’s definition of a woman was limited to people born biologically female...." So, let's check out what Rowling is saying on X:

It seems odd to live in an age where even the most basic biological truth has to be affirmed by a court. “Interesting times” ain’t got nothin’ on us.

The gender critical campaign group For Women Scotland...

"Gender critical" is a term used exclusively by trans advocates, and The Guardian made an editorial decision to use it in a news article.

The ham-handed manner in which these outlets back leftist causes in "news" articles is near parody.

To be a woman you have to be a woman - amazing this is a breakthrough.

Transgender spectrum.

That said, men and women, boys and girls, are equal in rights and complementary in Nature.

Have the Bobbies arrested the Supreme Court judges yet?

If you need a "gender recognition certificate," you're just cosplaying.

I for one lived through racial desegregation in the South, including school integration, and after that the normalizing and then enshrining in law protections for homosexuality, and after that acceptance of transgendered individuals in society. Re-segregation is pushed now by Blacks to achieve collective political and social power. Queer Pride pushes for homosexuality's worst practictioners of depravity and promiscuity to be the movement's stereotypes. Transgender activists demand respect, not just acceptance, of their dysphoria and insist on violating other's rights in doing so.
This is why we can't have nice things.

I'd suggest support of individual rights rather than pushing for collective privileges is the best route to societal success.

And don't get me started on the failures of modern feminism.

I'd like to see somebody create a bell curve for the confused among us: I want it to show three categories: 'Female', 'Transgender', and 'Male' along the ordinate, and then, 'Population, in billions' along the abscissa. That would be interesting ! Except we might start to wonder where all the noise is coming from, because it will only show two very-skinny bells.

Court interpreted a statute, which could be amended.

Trans refers to a state or process of divergence from normal. Gender refers to sex-correlated attributes (e.g. sexual orientation): masculine and feminine. Transgender is a spectrum disorder.

One new development that I have noticed. Some are using the term trans identifying male for a bio male instead of the backwards trans woman for a bio male. I think this change would improve the framing.

JK Rowling has been a rock on this issue. Taking lots and lots of heat. Very muskian of her.

We are all still at least a little surprised at seeing a high court exhibit common sense, right?

When trans activists threatened to burn her books, JK Rowling said, go ahead. I already have your money. As long as you buy my book I don't care if you read it or burn it.

It's interesting to see the issues these wealthy, accomplished people - Trump, Musk, Rowling - picked out. Make America Great Again. Government Efficiency. Women's Bodies, Women's Selves. It suggests that part of the reason they are successful is they are able to pick out essential issues and concentrate on them.
The merely wealthy trust babies are, meanwhile, storming heights of futility such as male breast-feeding and depths of depravity such as supporting assassins, arsonists, back- shooters and gangsters.

Dr. Helen Webberley, who has grown wealthy by selling hormones over the web, in as little as two days, to children as young as 12, is quite shockingly sexually abusive and unprofessional in this post. The image of an eggplant (in emoticon a penis, in Italian a slur for blacks -- why does nobody object to this?) aimed towards an emoticon female's mouth, in this context, insinuates oral rape of those who disagree with her.

Who would let such a monster who thinks it is funny to threaten her political opponents with rape be a doctor for children?

I asked Gemini, Google's AI, to do a meme of JK Rowling in Mel Gibson's war paint from Braveheart. It said it couldn't because it might violate their "Guidelines." I asked what guideline it might violate; it said "It's hard to say" and referred me to the entire set of guidelines. Which are the usual crap.
The BS is everywhere.
It would have been a really good meme.

Mr T: don't recognize the name so miss the attempted witicism as a response to my comment. I was myself reacting to the comment that this was a victory of British common law. It was not a common law decision. Perhaps a victory in statutory interpretation that the Labour Government accepts as such.

In essence, this court affirmed that “transgender woman” is, as it always has been in the sane world, an oxymoron.

Smilin' Jack said...

Whew…for a moment I read that as “US Supreme Court”. But we’re safe over here—our SC doesn’t even know what a woman is.

It won’t lead to restrictions on transgender women’s rights. They’ll have the same rights as their fellow men.
