Writes Trump, at Truth Social.
I like this. Trump is reminding me of Bill Maher — as Maher approached his dinner with, of all people, Trump.
Except it is a bit different... and what is "a competition with myself"? Perhaps Trump is of 2 minds, one which believes Goldberg can't write a fair story and one that is allowing for the possibility. You have to go through with the meeting to find out which side of your own mind is right, and since both are you, you necessarily win. I get the sense Trump thinks his "I WON" logic is quite funny.
For the annals of Things I Asked Grok: Tell me about the phrase "I've got half a mind to...." and compare it to the phrase "I'm of 2 minds about...." (And here's the long answer.)

One thing the Bad Orange Man never lacks is self confidence.
Trump knows full well that Jeffrey Goldberg and his friends will do their best to trash him and damage his agenda. But he has gotten this far -- which is pretty damned far -- without the support of the shit-weasel press. Indeed, it could be argued that he could not have gotten this far without them, yipping and nipping at his heels.
Just record everything, Mr. President- Goldberg likes to lie.
"Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer." - Michael Corleone, who killed all his in one night.
even when they have the actual transcript, he lies, maybe something he learned from Hamas
DJT will record the interview and destroy any professional slanders in the article. That’s why he thinks he has won.
My money is on the Donald.
Trump will likely have his own videographer record the interview so they can push back on any Goldberg-like shenanigans Goldberg may attempt.
That meeting will go about as well as the one with Zelensky.
Now as we sit back and await all the usual anti-Trump sputtering, we can reflect on what this encounter would have looked like with Joe Biden and the independent conservative media. Or even the Progressive Legacy media.
Smilin' Jack: "That meeting will go about as well as the one with Zelensky."
Soooooo, Trump shouldn't meet with them? Should meet with them? What?
The Handmade Tale
Make them wear masks and stay 6 feet away.
Trump believes in meeting with the opposition. It's just so rare that one of them has the balls to meet with him.
Trump is who he has been his entire life-authentic, real, and willing to engage with anyone.
This is new to the left, and most of the Republicans as well. They dont get it, and probably never will.
Goldberg outright lied, invented BS, and feels that is justified to get a Nazi. He would have cheered had that assassins bullet been on target.
I admire Trumps ability to put aside the personal nature of this, for the sake of having a real discussion.
Honestly, most of us would spit in Goldbergs face, after bitchslapping him for an hour or two.
The article is already written. They'll plug in some anecdotes from the meeting to freshen things up.
Oh, the Goldberg meeting will not end up as convivial as the Bill Mar dinner. Bill Mar can be bought, Goldberg cannot. He believes, as do many people, is that DJT is about as inauthentic as they come, and is willing to make regular people suffer so that his buds get their goodies. You go, Joseph. make him be honest, which he never is.
Trying to calm the left is a courageous gesture on Trump's part, but I know it will be useless. Frenetic hatred is their entire substance. A placid left is like a clement tornado, an impossibility. They achieve nothing but destruction because they revel in it. Chaos is their goal. Look at their strongholds -- empty, boarded-up buildings covered in graffiti, sidewalks a minefield of turds and tranked-out vagrants. That's what Goldberg likes. Any effort to reverse the rot is Racism!!™️. If Trump may ask, what are you rebelling against, Goldberg's reply will be waddah you got?
But what if I'm mistaken? Maybe Trump can achieve the impossible. Little Rocket Man in Pyongyang has been remarkably quiescent since he met Trump. Perhaps he can sway Goldberg as easily. But to what end? Who reads The Atlantic? Goldberg doesn't have many subscribers, and both of them have green hair and nose rings.

I'm usually of three minds on any subject. Quaestor A sits in the driver's speaking only rarely, boring straight ahead, obsessed with reaching a destination. Quaestor B sits in the passenger seat spewing a blistering commentary on Quaestor A's shortcomings, while Quaestor C sits in the back, absorbed by the passing world.
"We passed a McDonalds," says Quaestor C. "Lets double back and get some frosty milkshakes!"
"Road turns are illegal and dangerous, moron!" says Quaestor B. "Use that parking lot to turn around."
"We don't have time for that," says Quaestor A in a voice creaking from disuse. "Besides, the milkshake machines are always broken."
"You go, Joseph. make him be honest, which he never is."
Joseph???
Believe what you like, Vicky. But if it weren't for nonsense, there'd be no Vicky comments.
I'll take your "I've got half a mind to...." and your "I'm of 2 minds about...." and raise you one...
"Why I oughta..."
This is a little different than Bill Maher. Goldberg actively invented up something intended to hurt Trump's election chances. Maher just commented on that kind of bullcrap.

Damn, as soon as I saw that, the 'Crime of the century' (youtube link) song from Ragtime popped in my head ("and there were 94 years to go!"). Heh, strange link to the topic about I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings as I had to read Ragtime in AP English. I was able to mostly sleep through that one since my parents had taken us to the musical when it was in LA the month before we started it. The musical got most of the highlights, it was almost like having one of those summary books handy... forget what they were (are?) called. Those things were very handy in being able to skip actually reading the assigned books!
Quaestor said... "Believe what you like, Vicky. But if it weren't for nonsense, there'd be no Vicky comments."
For some reason, the "Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?" line from Animal House came to mind. I guess commenters like Vicky remind me of Bluto: nonsensical, obnoxious, often psychotic, yet amusing nonetheless.
Shoot, that quote was in the opening number, not the song I linked to. Interestingly, the composers did some melody foreshadowing and put that quote from my previous post to the melody of the song I linked to. I will blame that for the mix up.
"…just to see if it’s possible for The Atlantic to be 'truthful.'"
I don't think it is, but sure, give them a chance.
Bill Mar can be bought, Goldberg cannot.
No one will be surprised to see Vickie get this exactly backwards. Mahr is a proudly Liberal man who stands by his principles even now, when people with whom he is allies are tearing him down for accepting a Whitehouse invitation. He is not pressured and he has a history of walking away from venues that try to censor him.
Goldberg of course is the prevaricator who, when confronted with the evidence that what he wrote was false (Air Force confirmed that weather kept AF1 from going to the destination on that day, not a Trump rant), and everyone who was present willing to go on the record (including an aid to Goldberg's one source) saying the incident never happened, acknowledged he "might have it wrong" but kept reporting the lie anyway. Because he is a bought and paid for shill for Steve Jobs' widow. And she only wants negative Trump stories in The Atlantic. Jeffro does what he is told!
Mar Mahr Maher... I have trouble with Irish names sometimes.
"You know, seriously, this is another one of those “compare Trump to Biden” things. Biden would barely agree to an interview with a sympathetic reporter. Trump is doing an interview with one of the most hostile."
True. Not even Vicky can argue with that.
"Bill Mar can be bought, Goldberg cannot."
What, exactly, was Maher bought with? What did he receive?
@ Mike (MJB Wolf)
Irish name Meagher is also pronounced Mar.
Aught Severn, ref Ragtime: Never read it, but in 8th grade American History, the teacher showed us the movie during our Gilded Age unit. Elizabeth McGovern was a formative influence in my life, IYKWIM.

"What, exactly, was Maher bought with? What did he receive?"
Forget it, Jake- it's Vicky.
The Atlantic talks to Hitler Redux.
Stunning & Brave
Trump seems to enjoy "Debating" with liberal/leftist journalists. So, this is just more of the same. And when ex-IDF Prison Guard Goldberg lies and misrepresents what Trump said, this will allow him to fire back and call them on it.
So he gets to have fun. His base gets fired up over the lies, and it really doesn't matter, because the only people who care about "The Atlantic" hate trump anyway.
I wonder if Goldberg got Larry David's permission to conduct the interview.
This might be my favorite Trump tweet ever—it captures him perfectly. He attacks Jeff Goldberg and criticizes The Atlantic, yet, of course, he’ll still do the interview. Why? Because he can’t resist the spotlight and the chance to be called "The Most Consequential President."
He's holding all the cards. Instead of adopting the 70/30 MAGA planks, the Democrat goes even more hardcore TDS insanity. Some in the media are starting to crack, but Don does such a fine job lathering up the Kancel Karen Runts, the MSM darlings run away with the tail between the legs.
If Goldbloom writes anything positive, he's going to get crucified. He's between a rock and a hard place. Kudos for him playing the game hard.
Is he a CIA potted mole cast in the Robert Redford role of Bob Woodward? Enquiring mines want to know.
Trump thinks his (sociopathic) "charm" can win over anyone. A biographer said the same thing about Steve Jobs too, but that's off point, and I only mention it to illustrate that some people think that way. Bottom line: We knew durn well DJT was a snaky that way when we voted him in, and out, and back in, so Trump voters have to own that if not necessarily like it.
Clinton, Bush II, Obama and Biden: the bar is set kind of low this century. But yeah, I would think there's no serious debate about "most consequential," even among historians.
Kak: it's the same as talking directly with the Iranians. He believes in talking with everybody, apparently. It's pretty easy for him cuz he just says the same Trump rally speech talking points hooked up to a random number generator that can shift gears on a dime.
He (Donald) plays both good cop and bad cop all in the same time. How very quantum mechanical.
Trump is a conservative American (i.e. classical liberal tempered by Christian philosophy in a Republic under a Constitution that mitigates authoritarianism). He is not progressive liberal or monotonically divergent. He is not from the left-side of the political spectrum.
@Howard: Trump will be the most consequential President just not for the reasons he thinks. But in entertainment, no publicity is bad publicity.

Perfect.
Well if you've got TDS bad--as Vicky from Pasadena, and some of my friends in Nevada do, not one word of truth ever passed the Bad Orange Man's lips. Now, as with most people, the ratio of lies to objective truths that get spouted out of one's mouth may vary. If your average politician's case the ratio is 95 percent lies to 5 percent truth. But to argue that The Bad Orange Man never ever said one single word of truth makes the individual offering the argument look ridiculous.
They love the media they claim to hate. Goldberg was added to the Signal chat because his contact information was saved on someone's phone making it easy to add him. The hate is performative, and the base eats it up.
why go to mos eisely, a den of scum and villainy if ever that was one, not merely goldberg, but a host of other equivocators
nitwits like Tom the expert Nichols, David 'Harkonnen' Frum, he really needs a suspender bell,
Narciso is mixing Star Wars and Dune metaphors and it makes my head hurt.
well I could go straight to the Hutts, but you get the idea,
once upon a time, the Atlantic had some contributors of value like Mark Bowden even Mark Steyn, who was an obituarist
Keep on outin’ ‘em, narciso. Let’s get some Scanners action going!
What a bad idea.
kaKAW…kaKAW!
“The Bad Orange Man never ever said one single word of truth makes the individual offering the argument look ridiculous.”
Sweet, Jaysus. Like they need any help with that!
RCOcean... it's always the Jews isn't it?
honestly those chimps are working overtime to make some semblance of logic, moar bananas, for Rich's script
"RCOcean... it's always the Jews isn't it?"
Jeffrey Goldberg wrote a supposedly autobiographical book about being an IDF prison guard. It was a pretty good book.
More of that 3D chess. Perhaps Goldberg will feel obliged to find something positive about Trump before the burial. I can't see him doing a positive piece, but perhaps he'll compliment Trump on his new cologne or something. Nobody's opinion will change because of Goldberg's criticism and not that many people will actually read it. (Perhaps he can go on Maher and swap notes.) If Goldberg writes anything absurdly wrong about Trump, Trump supporters will hear about it and rally round the flag. Trump is running against the media as much as the Democrats, and Goldberg while lacking the gravitas of Joy Behar might rise to the occasion and write something suitably mockable.
actually it showed hes was such a mark for these future hamas players, some of whom migrated to chechnya and later iraq,
The New York Post headlined their story about Parker and Scherer moving to the Atlantic: "Two More Top Reporters Flee Washington Post for Further-Left Pasture." Trump would have appreciated that.
Trump recognizes that if he shows the press any weakness, they will destroy him, so he goes after them head-to-head. It's admirable in a way, and it's what future Republican presidents would have to do if the media is still around.
It seemed like everybody read Ragtime, more for the naughty bit and the comic book version of history that for literary merit. Still, was that the last time a half-way literary novel made any sort of public sensation? Maybe Tom Wolfe's The Bonfire of the Vanities counts. Maybe even a later book by Wolfe. People tried to make Jonathan Franzen happen, but he didn't.
Jupiter - I hear you but if there is any possibility of a Jewish angle to anything RCOcean always says some variant of "It's the JOOOOOS." I haven't read it and I have no knowledge of the book but re Goldberg he always writes "IDF Prison Guard Goldberg" even though it's completely irrelevant.
If anyone Jewish ever does anything wrong RCOcean is always on top of it "The Jew Goldberg did [such and such]." If it's relevant to the comment fine. But for RCOcean Jews are the foundational evil of this world, responsible for everything bad. It's obviously not illegitimate to criticize Israel or any particular Jewish person. But when every time you post, somehow it's the fault of the Jews, that's not normal. That's not what a healthy person does. That's a sick person.
FDR thought he could charm Stalin. Kennedy thought he could charm Khrushchev. They failed. Reagan, Clinton, Obama, and bizarre as it may sound, Biden had a degree of charm. Politicians who are at all personable have charm, use it, and sometimes rely on it. To think that Trump is unique or "sociopathic" in that respect is to be ignorant or a child.
"FDR thought he could charm Stalin. Kennedy thought he could charm Khrushchev. They failed."
I wouldn't say that Kennedy "charmed" Khrushchev, but he certainly established an ongoing personal relationship and communication with him. Some have argued that this was why Kennedy was killed -- because he was trying to make peace with the Soviets. See "JFK and the Unspeakable". You can buy it from Amazon, using the Althouse portal.
What other American politician has sat down for a 3-on-1 tag team interview with people like this who are both openly opposed to everything about the man, and who have a history of promoting major proven lies about him with out any retractions? Only Trump has the courage, and confidence in his positions to do this, and to do it with absolutely zero need or pressure. He does it because he expects them to blow it with TDS, like the rest of us do.
Please remember that the last guy and his replacement couldn't even sit down with their best friends in the media and come out looking good. The change is like being picked up by The Queen Elizabeth 2 from a Titanic lifeboat.
Trump cares far too much what other people think and say about him to be an actual sociopath. I doubt that Deep State opinion could survive the three-hour discussion with Joe Rogan. Sociopaths can only maintain a fake interest in someone for so long, and almost always in pursuit of sex, drugs or money, none of which were at stake in the Rogan Experience.
In keeping with standard Leftist practice, the person labeling Trump is almost always guilty of doing and/or being the thing they fling his way. Just saying.
Will Trump bring a list of all of the names that the Atlantic has called him and ask them to sign it?
Will the interview questions be presented to Trump's team in writing, in advance? Will the interview be limited to certain subjects only, known in advance? Will the interview be conducted in a deferential fashion, without the questioners interrupting the answers with objections? Will the interview be edited - certainly just for time and length, not to alter the responses to questions - or published in full? Will the interview be recorded by one or both sides with audio and video, and publicly available? Will the interviewee have veto over questions, or the right of refusal to answer followup questions? Will there be followup questions? Will the three questioners take turns or is it to be a gang pile-on? Will the questioners be respectful or will name-calling, eye-gouging, ear biting and punches below the belt be the order of the day? Oh what fun this will be for one and all!
