A good 25 years ago Bill Clinton sparked a massive upsurge in the Israeli-Palestinain conflict by trying to enact "peace in our time." He wanted his legacy to be that he ended 1,000+ years of regional conflict -- which inadvertently drew attention to age-old grieveances and seeking a better outcome. Clinton's actions led to the rise of suicide bombers and, in due course, the massive border walls.

This is not far off from history. The Gaza Palestinians are the descendents of ancient pirate "Sea Peoples" who roamed the Mediterranean Sea to raid Egypt and other long-gone Bronze Age kingdoms. They were unwanted in that area from the very start, and pushed out by Egypt long, long ago.

I haven't heard much about Trump vs Iran lately. As Dinky points out they are the real threat to peace in the region. Israel has shown how weak their airspace defense is, but that doesn't seem to be Trump's MO. Economic warfare is his forte.

Top Israeli are wanted war criminals.

Dude it's bad form to use Hamas' figures for deaths, but it's excellent satire to call them 'innocent'. Gaza is where Good Faith goes to die. Maybe not having tunnels coming out of mosques, schools, and hospitals, stuffed chock full of explosives and weaponry, might be a good start when they commence rebuilding. But the change has to come from the people that allow themselves to be used as human shields by the animals they elect, who claim victimhood when it comes time to Find Out.
I've seen pictures of young men in Gaza wearing fresh new uniforms and holding a loft their AK-47's like they just won a glorious victory. It will go on.....
You would think that a dollar invested in a desalination or power plant in Gaza would be worth more than a dollar invested in a tunnel for a weapons cache, but you would be wrong. The people of Gaza will be given money to rebuild, and they will rebuild their weapon caches.
Reap what you sow... and I think Trump's suggestion is right. Send those from Gaza to the West Bank of Jordan or Lebanon... let the PLO or Hezbollah have them... be much easier to monitor them that way... and of course PLO and Hezbollah really don't like HAMAS either... and GAZA becomes part of Israel!!

I saw a before and after series of photos of Gaza. People lounging on that beautiful beach. A tree lined boulevard filled with vehicles. Towering apartment complexes and on and on. Then they showed the destruction of these same areas. The intent was to show how awful Israel was to do this. And the destruction was awful.
But my reaction also included, where was the evidence of that living under crushing rule by the Jews in the before pics?
Throw in the skimming from the UN and international aid to tunnels rather than Gazans.... Life in Gaza could have been a lot nicer, and not because the Jews stopped it.

Yes, Hamas is responsible for the atrocities October 6th. The attitude of ordinary Gazans towards Hamas aren't simply approving and celebratory though. There's much discontent and elections haven't been held in years. There's also a lot in the Israeli intelligence failure that needs to be uncovered.
For those wondering if the Palestinians learned any lessons from this, the answer is no. That's not how they think.

The central problem is that Hamas is just too good at what they do. Oct 7 was a well planned murder rape operation to humiliate Israel and it worked. If they were not so effective they could be defeated on the field, give up, and get a nice beachfront country funded by the west and never have to work a day in their lives.
They remind me of the Scots English border people. They were so good at fighting and stealing and terrorizing that no civilized country could bear them, and they were scattered over the world.
When they start caring more about their children than their hateful ideology, then there will be peace. I feel bad for the children, the rest had a choice and chose poorly, now they can rebuild their lives while thinking about what they learned, if anything.

Although I generally support Trump, what about the Americans still held by Hamas? Why are they not released? I knew that Trump's promise to end the Ukraine war in 24 hours was bravado, but I believed him about the price to be paid for keeping the hostages beyond Inauguration Day. I thought that was real. Is there something in the works I have not heard about?

No one takes even that dream seriously, and the Israeli government is not now, nor has it ever, claimed, bargained for or fought to conquer any such territory. And then to correct your claim about "don't try to exist next to Israel," you left off of this addition to your line, "if you plan to or try to annihilate the Jewish people."
Israel DID NOT kill mostly innocent civilians. All you have to do is watch the videos that are out now when Israeli hostages are released. There are Hamas uniforms all over those videos. Those uniforms were sitting in a closet somewhere and now being worn like they pretend they are the victors. There are many, many more “innocent civilians” to be killed. These so-called innocent civilians hid in schools and hospitals.
Good news though, one of the Hamas leaders celebrating the other day just had his car blown up and now he’s a goner.

Hamas has not surrendered unconditionally, and thus claims "victory" in their most recent attempt to kill all Jews. May Hamas have enough more such victories that they end up hanging from whatever rubble remains in Gaza.
