Biden drops out!

The NYT reports.

After three weeks of often angry refusals to step aside, Mr. Biden finally yielded to a torrent of devastating polls, urgent pleas from Democratic lawmakers and clear signs that donors were no longer willing to pay for him to continue.

Mr. Biden’s decision abruptly ends one political crisis that began when the president delivered a calamitous debate performance against Mr. Trump on June 27. But for the Democratic Party, Mr. Biden’s withdrawal triggers a second crisis: who to replace him with, and specifically whether to rally around Vice President Kamala Harris or kick off a rapid effort to find someone else to be the party’s nominee.

My longstanding tag — "biden drops out" — has come true.

MORE: Will he be able to avoid the pressure to resign as President? From "Biden Drops Out of Race, Scrambling the Campaign for the White House/The president’s withdrawal under pressure from fellow Democrats after a disastrous debate cleared the way for a new nominee to take on former President Donald J. Trump in the fall" (NYT)(free-access link):
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President,” he said in a letter posted on social media. “And while it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

Mr. Biden, who evidently plans to serve out his term through January even as he pulls out as a candidate, said he would “speak to the nation later this week in more detail about my decision” and expressed thanks to Vice President Kamala Harris “for being an extraordinary partner in all this work.” But he did not immediately endorse her and said nothing about how the Democratic Party should proceed to pick a new nominee....

Right now, the Democratic Party has no candidate, while Trump is going strong and the Republicans have completed their nominating process with a nicely run convention.

BUT: That says "he did not immediately endorse her," but on X, Biden tweets that he is endorsing her:
My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.

AND: Back to "Biden Drops Out of Race, Scrambling the Campaign":

No sitting president has dropped out of a race so late in the election cycle in American history, and Ms. Harris and any other contenders for the nomination will have just weeks to earn the backing of the nearly 4,000 delegates to the Democratic National Convention.

Why would any good Democrat compete against Kamala for the nomination? The process will become simple... won't it? She only needs half of the delegates.

MORE: I'm suddenly hit with a feeling of great relief: We won't have to think about Biden anymore... assuming we survive until January.
His decision to withdraw makes him an outlier in American history. Only three presidents have served four years or less without seeking a second term, all of them during the 19th century: James K. Polk, James Buchanan and Rutherford B. Hayes. Several others wanted another term but failed to secure their party’s nomination.

But he clung to it as long as he could, even as his party mates were prying his fingers away from power. What a sad case of a presidency... and what will Kamala do with it as a foundation for a new one? He's the only one who ever picked her. The American people have never shown any liking for her at all.

ALSO: Here's another NYT article, saying that the process will be complicated:

First, the party could rally around Kamala Harris, the vice president, as a unifying force during a time of crisis. That would be the easiest road to take....

Some Democrats have argued that anointing a candidate is risky, and say that the party would be better off with a competition and a more democratic selection process. That would require another candidate to get in the race....
Among the potential candidates to watch are a handful of governors: Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, Gavin Newsom of California, JB Pritzker of Illinois and Andy Beshear of Kentucky. Other potential candidates include Pete Buttigieg, the secretary of transportation, and Senators Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and Cory Booker of New Jersey.

President Biden... does not control his delegates: He cannot tell them whom to vote for next month.... And any attempt to anoint his successor could risk setting off ideological and generational battling in the party, potentially weakening the ultimate nominee as he or she battles Mr. Trump....

The Biden-Harris campaign has, as of May 30, $91 million. If Ms. Harris is the candidate, that money is hers.... One candidate who would be free of these shackles is Mr. Pritzker, a billionaire who could finance the campaign on his own....

Maybe it all depends on the polls. They just ousted Biden for bad polls. If Kamala's polls are bad — and they have been bad so far — why not grab for someone else?

Because Twitter accounts can't get hacked? Just ask... who was it, Joy Reid? Some celebrity or politician who claimed, without evidence, that their account had been hacked and that's why mean or stupid stuff got posted.

But think think of how awesome it would be if this was an anti-Biden Democrat who got control of the account from the intern that runs it and posted this. How do you, as Biden, respond? Do you yank it and make the far-fetched hacking claim? Do you allow yourself to be pushed out so you don't look like an incompetent idiot? Seems like a bit of Wag the Dog scenario.

@Rich said "Trump is too old to be a president."

Calendar is not the issue -- strength, dynamism, and clarity are. Churchill was in fine shape to return to #10 after the 4-year Atlee disaster. He was 77, withdrew as PM in '55 [age 81] and continued on for some yers as an effective MP.

Konrad Adenauer led West Germany through a crucial transition period from 1949 to 1963, at which point he retired, age 89.

The great historian, Jacques Barzun, published his magnum opus book at age 95, and his final peer-reviewed scholarly article at age 103.

Joe Biden demonstrated his inability to do such things long before he was 50 yo, and it's gone downhill from there for at least the last 30 years.

Trump gives every appearance of resembling the first three men.

But if they do decide to replace kamala expect to see a lot of stories about how she is not black but Indian. Shots of her birth certificate showing the mother as "Caucasian" her father Jamaican. Her father's family owned slaves. She spent her formative years in Canada. Went to a "white" college. Married a Jewish white man.

And so on and so forth and shooby-dooby-dooby.

In short NOT black, NOT African-American certainly not ADOS.

Just pretending to be black so she can ride the DEI-affirmative action gravy train. A poser to be cast to the outer darkness.

The beauty of it is, it is actually true!

It also occurred to me that:

Kamala has never married, until and because she decided to run for president. She has never had children. She is famous for oral sex, not a peep about vaginal sex.

Her opponents need to start a rumor that she is not only not a black, she is not a woman.

Thinking on it, her husband does look a bit hinky. Maybe he gets off on chicks with dicks?

Doesn't need to be true, make her deny it. Perhaps a moderator at the debate can ask:

"Vice President Harris as you know, there are rumors that you are a male to female trans. Would you mind dropping your drawers for the audience so they can see the falsity of those rumors?"

"No?"

"Do you have something to hide? Like a penis maybe?"

Best vice-presidential debate ever.

The next battle will be crucial. Namely, whether Kamala's supporters (Clyburn and the Black Caucus) can fight off those trying to dump her (Pelosi, Newsom, etc.) and go to an open convention. Two key strategies to watch for: (1) can Kamala's team get Joe to actually step down now and immediately make her the first Black female President, and (2) can Kamala's lawyers keep the opposition from getting access to the funds already committed to "Biden-Harris".

In any event, if the anti-Kamala D forces succeed in dumping Kamala too, the blowback from black voters may be fatal no matter who they pick. I don't see any way they can back away from Harris.

I'm surprised honestly. While I could see it happening earlier, and I have no doubt folks like Gavin Newsom, despite their public protestations otherwise, were positioning themselves publicly to be the new candidate, I figured after the assassination attempt no serious Democrat would want to run against Trump. The intelligentsia and the taste-makers in the Democrat party do not want Kamala to be the candidate so their very well could be a cold civil war in the party. Kamala has big problems as a candidate. It looks like she helped cover-up Joe's senility from the American people, not mention her general unfavorability outside that glaring fault.

Democrats are going to get beat up constantly about Joe Biden not resigning. How can be too senile to run adn serve another 4 years if he isn't already to senile to be President now?

I'm assuming Joe wants to stay on so he can issue himself, his family and close supporters plenary pardons after the election.

It will be interesting to see how quickly Trump and his campaign can pivot. So much of their strategy was focused on how terrible Biden is/was, not what specific policies Trump would try to implement if elected. The Democrats really had no choice but to force Biden out. This is their Hail Mary pass. It will give some Democrats hope, because, you know, we've all seen those football games where the receivers catch the Hail Mary pass, score the touchdown, and win the game. I hope the Dems don't win, but it will a fascinating thing to watch. We certainly live in interesting times.

The Republicans will do nothing to challenge this in court. There is nothing they can actually do since the nominee wasn't even going to be official until the convention anyway, so all the deadlines will be met correctly as long as the Democrats get that nominee by convention week.

Biden defended himself on questions about his health and whether he could continue to work aggressively through another term.

Biden said he has taken three "significant and intense neurological exams," most recently in February, and would take another one only if his doctors recommend it. "They say I’m in good shape," he said.

I have him . He got Hogan to endorse him rather than the GOP candidate. He only has been office 6 month and he has run with a lot of bills that went through We have a Democrat majority in both houses of MD. From a GOP perspective he is a very dangerous candidate. Very good looking , has great resume, sharp, smart and articulate .He does not scare whites.

China faces a real problem:
The can NOT afford to have many soldiers die

Because their multiple generations of "one child policy" means that every dead male soldier leaves behind parents and grandparents who have completely lost their future.

And so have nothing to lose by attacking the CCP.

They are working on killer drones, to deal with this issue. But unless they have some major breakthrough that they've kept hidden, they're not going to be able to go to war with drones before Jan 20.

So I predict they won't be attacking Taiwan.

His has been the most deceitful campaign and Presidency in the history of the United States. Millions, tens, if not hundreds of millions of people knew in 2020 that Joe was not able to fully do his duties. His staff knew it- which is why the campaign kept him under a lid day after day. He was in the 'basement'. The press knew it, and covered for him. And yet, somehow, Donald Trump received more votes than an incumbent President had ever received and still managed to lose to a guy who barely even campaigned?

The shock and horror on display by Democrats and their news divisions is the shock of getting caught. The debate tore the cover off of all of it- once and for all. Just days earlier we were all called various names for sharing videos of Joe trying to find his way off of a stage, or onto a set of stairs, or just across the lawn. We were derided for replaying his weird mumbles and shouting, his falling asleep next to foreign leaders, his being handled by other leaders as you would a 4 year old in a crowd.

They are shocked at being caught. And now...now that they rigged the Democratic Primary to make sure Joe ran unopposed, they're looking for a redo. They now look at this as an attempt to clear the deck, and redo their entire campaign. A mulligan for the Democrats.

They cannot win elections on ideas. But they can arrange and rearrange things until they get the outcome they desire.

In the meantime, look at what Biden and his feckless team did to America and the world over the past 4 years.

Trump needs to stamp these cockroaches quickly, and publicly. If Republicans haven't full-throatedly come out in support of the Trump agenda going forward, then their true colors are flying as their plan for the next 4 years.

Every single person on Capitol Hill has known for more than 4 years that Biden isn't capable of running his administration, and they've been silent in their acceptance that some un-elected group is, instead. Trying this kind of farce on, at this point, is simply designed to spin out the energy that is fueling the Trump campaign.

The argument being made by Republicans that Biden needs to resign the Presidency is a rare politically astute move by the pachyderm party. It, probably inadvertently, puts the Dems in a dilemma. Anyone with eyes, ears and two brain cells to rub together can see that Biden hasn’t been playing with a full deck for some time. If he resigns, Dems and the media (sorry for the repetition) have to admit they knew it. But if they hold to the lie that he’s just fine and can take care of the country, then this is just a purely political calculation, not worthy of accolades by anyone not primarily focused on party Uber alles. And in that case, I return to my previous question, why did we taxpayers have to pay for a faux primary? Well, for you the point is running away from Budapest, because it completely destroys your position, and exposes you as a worthless piece of sh!t.

Name some countries with Taiwanese embassies
Name some significant countries that refuse to do business with Taiwan because it's a "rebel province".

The US agrees that the CCP control China. The US has never signed any sort of treaty claiming that the CCP are the rightful rules of Taiwan.

Again, I provided you with a treaty, freely signed by both Russia and Ukraine, where each side gave up things of value in exchange for other things of value:
Ukraine gave up a large supply of weapons grade U235 and / or Plutonium, in exchange for agreement as to what their borders are.
Russia gave up ANY claim, for all time, on ANY part of Ukraine, including the Crimea and Donblas, in exchange for Ukraine giving up the ability to nuke Russia, and nuke Moscow, if there was a conflict over the border.

If you're not a complete fucking moron, you think that agreement was a great idea, and you demand it be enforced, in full.

If, OTOH, you want every gov't on Earth to to consider it a matter of vital interest to have nukes, since that's clearly the only way to keep your borders secure, and if you want the "terrorists ending up with their hands on nukes" that will inevitably result from such a situation, then you support Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

Your position is complete shit.
