"[T]he burgeoning Nads were young Republicans. They had gathered at the Capitol Hill Club to drink cheap beer..."

"... in a room decorated with porcelain elephant statues and photographs of President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Sen. John McCain, and listen to a well-built man with a five o’clock shadow and an Australian accent tell them that '"nasty women" are coming for two things: your mind and your testicles!' In some ways, Adams’s shtick is conventionally conservative: He’s Christian, he’s very concerned about there being only two genders, he rails against 'woke.' In other ways, his version of MAGA manhood is so over-the-top, so uncanny that it almost seems like performance art.... He writes about how if your wife is 'high-maintenance' then you’re a 'loser' no matter how hot she is. And about his love of steak. 'Alpha males don’t care about time changes, we wake up at 4AM every single morning regardless of the circumstances,' he wrote on X last month, a few days after the clocks sprang forward for daylight saving time. '64oz tomahawk ribeyes aren’t going to eat themselves!' Is Nick Adams serious?... 'You remember Andy Kaufman?; Adams’s hired security guard told me, referring to the late comedian who was famous for never breaking character.... 'This is not a character,' Adams told me. 'This is not a bit. It’s not trolling. Anyone who thinks this is not me, that I don’t eat steak, that I don’t drink ice-cold domestics, that I don’t repel woke beer, they’re wrong. They’re absolutely wrong.”

Writes Ben Terris, in "The deeply silly, extremely serious rise of ‘Alpha Male’ Nick Adams/Meet the Trump-backed raconteur who is teaching America’s young men the art of being hard to deal with" (WaPo, free access link).

"Nads" = Nick Adams Disciples.

I hadn't heard of Nick Adams until this article. The issue of when a comedian is "serious" is kind of intriguing. I don't think the point of reference should be Andy Kaufman. It should be Andrew Dice Clay. I already lived through that. Another thing I lived through was the TV show "The Rebel." Don't reuse a name that already means something to some people who still roam through the west.

ADDED: As pointed out by William in the comments, there's also Nick Adams, the Hemingway fictional character. I don't have a problem with this new Nick Adams adopting the name in a reference to those stories from a century ago, just as I'd accept a comedian who called himself Hamlet or Captain Ahab. "Nick Adams" was taken as a showbiz name back in the 1950s, and I don't like seeing it reused.

For as long as I have been an adult male, there have been "alpha male" gurus trying to teach other men how to be... whatever that is. It has always been kind of pathetic. There are aspects of me that probably fit that mold, and others that don't, but at least I'm sincere about who I am. Despite his assurances, this kind of thing always comes across as an act.

My son follows this guy and a couple of others of a similar nature, although he scarcely drinks any alcohol these days. He gets up early for a vigorous workout every day, eats paleo, is outspokenly right-wing, tall, handsome, and muscular, with a thriving career. He absolutely doesn't give a shit about anything that leftist women find important, whether culturally or politically, and doesn't mind saying so. The crowd he hangs out with has a lot of these horrible left-wing bitches who talk shit on him to his girlfriend, then throw themselves at him behind her back. He courteously ignores them.

Nick Adams refers to the Hemingway character, no? Nick Adams went off to the woods to go fishing and live alone and without women. It was some kind of healing process.

It's almost indescribable, how much hatred there is, between traditional Republicans who respect McCain, Romney, Bush, Cheney...

And the TrumpWing Republicans who go out of their way to attack McCain.

There was a time, when many of the current TrumpWingers would have been supportive of McCain and Romney, and Bush-Cheney, as they ran against Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama, and so one might think that there could be a tinge of guilt or regret in attacking those Republicans. But I think I can relate. After having voted for Trump in '16 (as the 15th-best Republican in a field of 14 GOP candidates), my personal rage and fury stems from my own guilt and regret at having done so, in the false belief that the Presidency itself might normalize Trump at least for a four-year window.

I think we hate Trump a lot more than you can imagine, and that we hate Trump much more than you hate McCain.

Terris could have written "because it is" to number one and "no" to number two and stopped there, but the article just kept going and going and going.

Even with a fast scroll I gave up before reaching the bottom of the page. Did it ever end?

Kyle Rittenhouse, up and coming alpha male, put out the Kenosha fires. After Kyle acted, Evers was forced to act and finally let Trump help.

MAGA is not filled with forever war-mongers. We learned our lesson being lied to about WMDs in Iraq, and we can see it happening in Ukraine. We also remember McCain's role in the Steele Dossier; and lying about his opposition to Obamacare. Forgive me lord, but I'm glad McCain is not around anymore.

McCain, Romney, Bush, Cheney are assholes. Trump exposed these four as bitter, jealous, corrupt, insecure little men. Real Alpha Males aren't aggressive war mongers.

I supported all of the above as the best alternative to their opponents. But like Lindsey Graham, they are contemptible, compromised milquetoasts at home, and perpetual warmongers abroad, who have played an important role in the aggrandizement of our monster military-industrial complex and Orwellian surveillance state.

There can be no compromise with today's Deep State and its wholly-owned subsidiary, the Beltway UniParty, who constitute the greatest threat faced by all of humanity, not just Americans. Most of our national government must be dismantled if liberty is to survive.

But I think I can relate. The manosphere/redpill movement is the same phenomenon on the right as wokism is on the left: the observation of certain unspoken things, or pretty lies pushed by society, becomes the kernel for something larger. In both cases the advocates quickly become more interested in social positioning amongst each other, leading to a tendency to amplify and intensify their criticisms, until you're left with what amounts to a gnostic cult. With wokism, the idea that there might be power imbalances in the culture or the structure of institutions quickly expands until no person has any true agency- you're either an oppressor or horribly oppressed- and the woke are the only ones capable of seeing this truth. For the redpillers, the notion that laws and culture often favor women in some ways, or that women are imperfect and often dishonest about what they are looking for in a man is transformed into the alpha guru crap where the whole world is some gynocentric conspiracy and all women are depraved sluts.

@Deep State Reformer

Yes, undoubtedly. However, she peevishly chides Nick Adams for appropriating the (assumed) name of the actor who played the eponymous rebel, Johnny Yuma. The long-deceased actor was born Nicholas Aloysius Adamshock, therefore his appropriation of Hemingway's iconic character's name seems natural and unaffected, though "Nick Adamshock" strikes me as more action/heroic. As to whether the Nick Adams of the topic is Nick or Nicholas Adams on his birth certificate is not established.

An image search reveals there is yet another actor called Nick Adams born 264 miles in road distance and 52 years in time from the Nick Adams who wore a Confederate kepi and roamed the West with Johnny Cash singing his paean. This new one likes to wear leather and display his belly button, much to the drooling delight of Howard and his fellow non-binary Biden supporters.

I want to thank walter for posting the quote from me that is apparently dated March of 2016. I had forgotten how early it was that I made that pronouncement. I'm very glad to be reminded that there was never really a time in that campaign where Trump had fooled me into supporting him.

walter, the easiest thing in the world for me would be to deny having voted for Trump. Many of my friends would think better of me if I had not done that. I have always said that I voted for Trump in 2016 with the greatest reluctance. That's an understatement now. All I wanted back then was a Federalist Society favorite to get the late Justice Scalia's seat.

I'd also like to note that among others who were, like me, condemning Trump in the strongest possible terms in March of 2016 were Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Lindsey Graham, Harriet Haegeman, and the editors of National Review.

And one last thing; I will happily accept your congratulations on my consistency. Since the 2016 campaign, I have regularly endeavored to smear Trump, to hurt him, and to prejudice people against him. Nothing short of that.

You're probably right.

McCain was essentially a political con man but most politicians are basically con men (and women). Any reasonable person's relationship with them is purely transactional. I dislike McCain no more than I dislike anybody who welches on a deal, or turns out to be making false promises.

On the other side of the ledger, Trump is an existential threat to existence of Uniparty toadies like yourself. His ascendency means you will no longer be able to triangulate between the conservative core of the GOP and the Democrat dominated Deep State.

Recall Chuck spending years vehemently and desperately and nearly violently denying that which he now, today, openly and proudly admits above (again, per the record)!
