Jon Stewart's view of the Trump trial: It's a test of the media's fairness and accuracy.

"If the media tries to make us feel like the most mundane bullshit is earth shattering, we won't believe you when it's really interesting. It's your classic boy who cried Wolf Blitzer."

And we all know the media doesn't know what fairness and accuracy is. Anybody who thinks they are fair, is a dumbed down progressive used to being lied to and having conniption fits because they believe MISINFORMATION spewed at them 24/7.

Jon Stewart go caught over valuing his NYC property by millions, right after railing on Trump for "doing the same." Records were public and exposed on X. Jon Stewart isn't able to be fair and accurate, just like his evil Sith apprentice, Steven Colbert.

CNN and MSNBC have to fill in 24/7 with Trump bullshit so of course they are going to focus on the meaningless mundane. Bringing in the sketch artist to explain why Trump's eyes were closed is just stupid.

Stewart is not some moral abature for American politics. He just pretends to be one on TV. He's an asshole.

Yuck, yuck, election interference by the democrat party and there media is hilarious. Just hilarious. Locking up your presidential opponent for something that the congress has a SLUSH FUND FOR is just hiliarious.

I do not have anything in common with democrats.

Well, the profit-driven mass media have certainly disgraced themselves...as usual. It reminds me of the media circus depicted in the Billy Wilder movie ACE IN THE HOLE, starring Kirk Douglas as a cynical careerist newspaper man seeking to turn a tragedy into his ride to national success.

Considering that there are people nattering on and nattering on about Trump farting in the courtroom; Stewart may be doing a good broken clock impression.

Jon Stewart is a dancing monkey. He is the most obvious and egregious shill out there right now.

Nobody gives a shit what Jon Stewart thinks anymore because not even college students listen to him. He was trotted out during an election year to spout the party line.

Maher even thinks he is a shill.

The biggest problem for Stewart is nobody thinks he is funny anymore.

A test in which the media has consistanly failed over the last twenty years. And they're fine with that.

Trollinator1000 said...

Looks like the talking points have gone out; first Maher, now Stewart, with additional sympathetic/what-are-you-doing-you're-helping-Trump-you-dumbasses coverage bubbling up everywhere.

They operate in reaction to poll numbers, plain and simple. This is all (loosely) coordinated.

Back in the day Rush would have pointed this out and played montages/read articles to illustrate what is happening now.

Once again Cook shows he is just dumb and doesn't think about anything at a serious level.

NPR is the worst of the bunch. It is specifically state supported and non-profit.

All of the "for-profit" media are owned by billionaires that are losing money on these "investments." They are clearly not operated in a manner to produce profit and just push the party line driving away more than half their audience.

Fox News is the most profitable of the bunch and they fired the most popular show host in history halving their total viewership because he was questioning the party line.

There is no "for-profit" media in this country.

hmm, so what are we NOT talking about?

beyond mention: the Leviathan Police State listening in to anybody the hell they want, gained dreadful access with the Patriot Act, now a vast flow of personal data is in the hands of folks proving they don't like half the nation.

1. A review of the Covid years, and the freedoms we lost, the authoritarian response by our ruling class, the terrible research that continues still, the misdirection by our bureaucrat class.

2. immigration who is here now, what are they doing, the government and "catholic relief services" know exactly what is going on with immigration, but us citizens getting watered down don't. worth some deep consistent coverage

3. war. what is it good for.

4. Climate change agenda has led us up a dry creek.

Poor lefties. If they were good little girls and boys and did what they were told and disparaged and laughed at Trump and his supporters, they would get this beautiful gift of a trial. Now they’ve opened their present and it’s lumps of coal all the way down.

Almost 16 minutes of talking about Trump in the context of why we shouldn't be talking about Trump.

I'm currently reading Bad News by Batya Ungar-Sargon, which you can get through the Althouse Amazon portal. (I got my copy from the library. Sorry.) It's about how journalism became a job by and for the elites. They really are out of touch with the average working class person. It's like Oscar Madison got fired and they hired Felix Unger.

Agree w/Mr. Cook: very close to Ace in the Hole. Got through half of the post. Pretty funny take on the breathless media, esp as they investigate the deeper meaning of the artist's sketch of Trump. This is classic, high-level stupidity.

The left sees money going out to Ukraine and Israel as an anchor around the feet of their fortunes, and fair enough. But man, are you lucky you don't read outlets of Conservative Inc. More than ten of today's posts at Instapundit are about campus protests, which would only make sense if students were killed by the police. As it is, preoccupation with rich Jewish Ivy Leaguers- who mostly -despise- normal Americans of all stripes- is outright nauseating, no matter how you feel about Gaza.

Gusty Winds,

At the outset, let me say that as far as I can tell, this and all other current lawsuits against Trump are somewhere between highly questionable and ludicrous. Just so we know where we're standing.

But there is no equivalency between Stewart's case and Trump's. Stewart bought a property for a certain amount, paid taxes on it according to an independent valuation, and found someone willing to buy it for much much more that what he (Stewart) paid for it. Good for him. I think we're all in favor of buying low and selling high.

Trump was accused of (well, found guilty of /shaking my dang head/) applying for a loan using one of his properties as collateral, and "overvaluing" that property on the loan application. Stewart did nothing like this, and I think everyone should drop this "but Jon Stewart did it too!" talking point because it is wrong.

If I'm mistaken about any of the facts, I'd be happy to be corrected.

Mark said...

Gusty, Stewart sold his house for a hefty profit. That isn't 'overvaluing' anything as someone made an offer at that price.

But go ahead and correlate selling something at a profit with lying on loan documents, it says a lot about your logical abilities and fact sourcing.

The extent of social change in the past two decades has been startling. One of the many changes has been a precipitous decline in the respect that centrists and conservatives feel for not just the press, but also for the big corporations, the intelligence community, schools (K-12 and higher ed), the FBI, the learned professions, public health officials, NGOs, scientists, the Democratic Party, and the courts.

This is troubling, because I can't think of any realistically possible events that will reverse the decline.

The 2024 election is shaping up as lose/lose. Biden's victory would be disastrous. Trump's victory would be less disastrous, but still will start unprecedented left wing /progressive disruptions mandated by the intense moral urgency of stopping Trump.

Stewart didn't do the same thing at all. Trump overvalued his property for tax advantages; Stewart simply priced his house at a number he hoped he could get, and someone bought it at that price. Entirely legal transaction.

Jon Stewart and Bill Maher are finally seeing the light, and are willing to get outside their liberal bubble, yet Trump supporters keep on vilifying them. I am glad that they are able to get outside their hive/echo/Borg zone, which many Trump supporters are unable to do. Good for them.

I'm sure other's will point the stupidity of this comment as well, but I can't let this pass:

Who in their right mind "over-values" a property for tax purposes? Taxes are determined by the city\county based on what THEY determine to be a fair market value. Lenders also determine the value of the property separate from the owner to ensure they are no loaning out money on a worthless property. I could apply for a $1M loan on my house and they'd laugh me out of office.

According to yesterday's Hollywood Reporter:

"Since Stewart’s return, The Daily Show has averaged about 546,000 viewers per episode (all figures in this story are for first airings on Comedy Central only and don’t include simulcasts or any delayed viewing or streaming). That’s a 62 percent increase over the 336,000 viewers the show averaged for the 22 weeks (plus one day) it aired original episodes last year."

So, like it or not, Stewart has a wide audience.

Dude, less than 1 million viewers is NOT a "wide audience" on cable. It's lame. It is about 1/20th of Joe Rogan's podcast or 1/9th of Gutfed! on Fox News Channel, a like comparison.
