"Saturday Night Live" satirizes Katie Britt and — wow! — it's Scarlett Johansson.

I don't know what the satire is, but the blast of feminine beauty is thrilling:

Katie Britt has become a larger-than-life icon.

Anyway. What is the satire here? "Republicans wanted me to appeal to women voters, and women love kitchens." And of course, it's funny to watch an excellent actress playing the role of a bad actress.

AND: What are some other examples of an excellent actor playing the role of a bad actor?

ALSO: I wondered how SNL would do this well since everyone was already reacting to the original as something that seemed like SNL, including me, the morning after the SOTU:

It's the old conundrum: How do you satirize something that is already self-satirizing? Is pre-self-satirizing possibly a good strategy? Could it explain Trump? Does it get at what makes a person choose the demeanor of a clown? Who can mock me when I am already perfectly ridiculous?

It occurred to me- is Jost still on the show? Maybe she’s just hanging around back stage…

Didn't some female Democrat do a response to Trump or Bush from her home or kitchen once? Am I imagining it?

The million ‘political strategist’ women that caused the white house to have to qualify with ‘don’t tell us to get Taylor Swift to endorse him’ are all making fun of this woman right now. It goes this woman > white suit baby killer fossils > get Swiftie to shout out women…

Our entire political leadership class is comprised of bad actors who do not seem to have the best interests of the country and the American people at heart. And yet they - both individually and as a class - are excellent enough actors to have a greater than zero approval rating.

I am assuming that you deliberately chose the term "bad actor" to elicit a response like this.

Her line was “women love kitchen”.

I agree, the original was funnier.

I went to watch for the BOOBS!

Sort of. There was a discussion online about the immense rack sported by the blonde chick hosting the week before. I record it and may or may not watch it but after all the attention to the enormous mammaries for last weeks show, I jumped into my DVR to watch it. Then I saw a blurb about last nights host, Josh Brolin, and having just seen Dune 2, flipped over to the current production to see Brolin and caught the cold open.

More BOOBS! And while not a Sweeneyesque set, Scarlet ain’t no slouch in that department and I am very appreciative of the close up of the cross during the lil QVC part of the skit. What was the skit about, anyway?

Nicely done! Bring back the Man Show (maybe put Joe Rogan in v Kimmel) and more BOOBS on SNL! MBGA!!!

Thursday night wrote itself. In an effort to get Americans to vote for a rapist, Britt lied about the sexual violence experienced by another woman.

Britt Tells Misleading Border Story in State of the Union Response
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/09/us/politics/katie-britt-republican-response-sotu-border.html

Britt blamed Biden for an assault that happened during the Bush administration. I guess Britt is depending on Americans and their poor grasp of geography, as well as how time works in a linear fashion

Nice to see that we can still count on the entire media apparatus and bloggers to bash on a conservative woman. But leave the absolute lunatic Democrat anti semitics alone. No parody from snl of the AOC staged event at a border fence THEN, but nothing now.

What a shock. Hard core Lefty Loonies hate, HATE, HATE accomplished (and attractive) conservative women. Not quite as much as they hate accomplished conservative black people (e.g., Clarence Thomas, Tim Scott. John James), but the venom is there.

Rich, the vast majority of the lies told on Thursday night came during Brandon's unhinged rant, not after it.

The SOTU showed once again why the GOP is a dying party. Johnson should never have permitted it to occur, and then for the party to push that gal onto stage was just utter incompetence. The only spot of success was MTG, who managed to goad Biden into referring to Laken Riley's murderer as an "illegal" and he's now having to very publicly tap dance to appease the hard left.

For the first time, I watched Sen. Britt’s response. Not the best performance, but the substance was good. And she wasn’t on drugs.

SNL got one fact wrong. Britt said “are you better off now or better off 3 years ago.” Not 4 years ago.

Typical East Coast snark making fun of regular Americans. Fuck SNL. They helped give us Biden.

planetgeo said...

Hey, Rich, speaking of poor grasp of geography and misleading border stories tell us more about why your masterful candidate feels the need to airlift 320,000 illegals (his term) to undisclosed locations in this country instead of just letting them walk at their own expense across our now non-existent border.

Funny, how they ignore the perfectly ridiculous Biden/Harris administration. Can't make fun of themselves. At least conservative women know HOW to use a kitchen. That's why they can afford to pay off their student loans.

Fuck SNL, indeed.

btw - the skit mocking Air B&B - I missed the real point about that NBC a-hole mock bit.
It was NBC elitist rich white hollywood a-holes mocking regular Americans who found a way (thru Air B&B) to scrounge a bit of money on the side. Rich white leftists hate it when Americans try to earn a living.

F the elite left and Fuck NBC.

Wince said...

Isn't the crux of Biden's culpability the foreseeability of the consequences of his policies based on prior experience before he opened the border to human trafficking on an unprecedented scale?

WWIII Joe Biden, Husk-Puppet + America's Putin said...

NBC Rich-

Biden's (Soros) illegal entrants are criminals. They entered the county illegally. Some are Criminals who hurt and kill innocents.

Glad your focus is on how Trump brutally tortured and raped a women named E-Jean, who cannot recall when the "rape" occurred - in a dressing room of a very high end department store.

Good thing you have your priorities straight - NBC Rich.

Actually, I thought ScarJo failed to capture the breathy, impassioned delivery of Britt that distinguished it.

There was the time Pelosi did an interview on The Late Late Show from her kitchen. She was showing off her $12 pints of ice cream while regular people were still dealing with bare shelves in stores due to COVID disruptions.

Wince said...

Britt literally has years if not decades to bolster her public image after Thursday night.

Even those who believe Biden delivered a "feisty" stemwinder know it will, as a high-water point, simply highlight his inevitable decline over the next several months.

"mocking regular Americans who found a way (thru Air B&B) to scrounge a bit of money on the side"

You must have a very very different neighborhood than I do. Around here it's mostly rich people buying up more property intended for making more money from turning quiet family neighborhoods with some beauty around them into commercial real estate and making us live around unzoned hotels

The working class folks are the ones against airbnbs around here because those airbnb owners are jerk absentee vultures trying to squeeze every last drop of coin from neighborhoods they don't care anything about.

Paddy O said...

Apparently women should be willing to put up with sexual abuse, harassment, objectifying, and over the top sexualized opportunism like Scarlet Johansson instead. A real womenin her experience knows their way around sexual deviants not families or kitchens.

This is my problem: the Left and the Right are both caricatures, but the Left doesn't realize how much a one it is.

I haven't watched Saturday Night Live for over 20 years. But if the shows continues to satirize Republicans AND Democrats, as this clip shows, I may tune in occasionally.

Concerning the screwtube video Wendybar posted with Fauxcahontas, what most people miss is the little figurines on the cabinets behind her. Particularly the little dark one in the middle. I've seen it blown up and it is a caricature of little black boy sitting and eating a slice of watermelon. Now ain't that sweet.

Sebastian said...

I watched neither Britt not SNL. But any ridiculousness stems from the need to pander to nice women. Not sure kitchens can outdo abortion, abortion. Which is more ridiculous?

Robert Cook said...

"Nice to see that we can still count on the entire media apparatus and bloggers to bash on a conservative woman."

No, it was a well-earned lampoon of dissembling, opportunistic new Senator (Katie Britt) seeking attention for herself by feigning outrage at the sexual exploitation of a Mexican woman for which she implicates Joe Biden due to his boarder policies, though the woman's ordeal occurred 20 years ago...in Mexico. Extra ridicule was earned for Britt's delivery in a patently false, breathy, melodramatic (fake? genuine?) performance that deserves an award for high comedy.

The skit's main failing is that it could not match Ms. Britt's actual bizarre affect.

You must live in CA?
some of the folks I know who run them out of their homes - are essentially leasing bedrooms by the night. looking to make some extra dollars. The negative impact from parking is real.
(I offer no solution for that)
I also understand that none of our neighborhoods were set up for all the extra parking.
Rich people buying everything is a problem in every direction - not just AirB&B. that we know.

I thought that Scarlett Johansson did quite a good job with the skit. In a way, it's a bit of a compliment to Senator Britt that she can be parodied credibly by an A-list beauty like SJ.

I only wish that SNL were a bit more balanced in their skewering of female politicians. No conservative woman must be allowed to advance!

Nonetheless, I suspect that a lot of moderate female voters probably received Britt's response in the way that SNL portrayed it rather than the way that the GOP presumably intended it. Republicans can strongly and faithfully present their political views without driving away moderates. If only they acted like they knew that.

Chuck said...

Satire is of course one way to approach it. And that's fine in this case.

But another way is to bluntly point out that Britt's fantastically dramatized story was fundamentally a lie from start to finish. Yeah, Britt met with a woman (in January) who had been sex-trafficked in the past.

But while Britt was talking about it breathlessly like it happened at the border and during the Biden Administration, the actual story was from 20 years ago, during the George W. Bush Administration, and it happened in Mexico, not the U.S., and not near (or even related to) the U.S.-Mexico border.

The more that the fact-checkers look into the story, the more that it becomes a case study in how wrong is the messaging from Katie Britt and here fellow Congressional Republicans are! The case that Katie Britt brought up stands for nothing so much as a real, living case of a victimized woman from Mexico who found life-saving safety and sanctuary in the United States thanks to being able to negotiate the border.

I cannot get enough of this Katie Britt-is-lying story. I also cannot get enough of the #FundieBabyTalk hashtag.

All the Fundie Baby Talkers need to watch all of this:

Here's the definitive link exposing Katie Britt's massive misrepresentation

And here's a great link showing Katie Britt doubling down on her falsehood today.

Yeah, SoCal mountains. Airbnbs in my neighborhood are all owned by outsiders who came in during Covid. A imdb listed actor, a commercial real estate agent with 5 local rented properties, Pasadena nouveau riche full of frenzy. Priced out a huge amount of families and working class. And they are always doing hobby construction.

Amnesty International estimates that at least 300,000 women per year are raped on their journey to the U.S. border.

Robert Cook (and essentially all Democrats) supports the policies that lead to these rapes.

For several generations now, bright young comedians have been getting hired by SNL where they go to struggle with their addictions and make fun of Republicans. It's almost a rite of passage for them....Donald Trump has been the guest host on SNL more times than any other American President. For balance, they should offer the slot to Joe Biden a few times before the election. The skits write themselves. I'm thinking Scarlet could play Jill.

Tina Trent said...

Hey Rich.

Republicans support policies to imprison rapists.

Your type supports policies to cut them loose and add even more of them to our country.

So keep your mouth zipped on this topic, buddy.

It must be too difficult for these comedic geniuses (/s) to parody Joe “He put the POS in POTUS” Biden, what with his hard, empty, soulless, black, raisin eyes, stretched thin skin, angry old man persona, showering with his daughter ways and pumped to the moobs with 11 different stimulants and spices.

For chrissakes, just put that old, wrinkled prick out to pasture.

They portrayed Biden as "amped-up" but studiously avoided satirizing the anger, feigned or not, that was the hallmark of his speech.

Problem is the decision-makers in lingering "never-Trump" National Republican Party keep insisting upon "classiness", but the boneheads find themselves then promoting "plastic people" presentations worthy of SNL skits. Katie Britt could have accomplished a somber "educated lady" speech, but someone was pushed into her kitchen, put into a pushup bra, shiny blouse, and told to do a tick-tock sales pitch.

Would have thought Mike Johnson could have nixed this.

Katie's new image is ex-football wife tick-tock mommy.
