I'm reading a Vox article from 4 years ago — December 12, 2019.

The headline is "Gaetz’s effort to make the impeachment hearing about Hunter Biden’s problems backfired spectacularly":
During Thursday’s impeachment hearing, Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee repeatedly tried to shift the focus from President Donald Trump’s apparent abuse of power to the Bidens — their goal being to establish that Trump had legitimate reasons to try and cajole the Ukrainian government into investigating one of his domestic political foes.“There is clear evidence of wrongdoing between Hunter Biden, the former Vice President Joe Biden, and the Ukraine and the corporation Burisma,” Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) said early during Thursday’s hearing, despite the fact that there is no such evidence....

Corruption” never even came up on Trump’s July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to a summary of the conversation released by the White House, but Trump did repeatedly bring up his desire to see the Ukrainian government investigate the Bidens. Trump never used his executive authority to conduct an official review of corruption in Ukraine....

[Judiciary Committee ranking member Doug Collins (R-GA)] told reporters that Trump “felt all along” that “corruption in the Ukraine is a problem.” But Collins was flummoxed when Manu Raju of CNN responded by pointing out that at no point during Trump’s two calls with Zelensky did he ever bring up corruption.
“He didn’t say ‘corruption’ in the call and he asked for an investigation of Joe Biden,” Raju pointed out.

Just like there's no evidence the 2020 election was stolen.

Just like there was no evidence, FOR YEARS, that Harvey Milk's election was stolen.

How long is this charade going to go on?

It’s gotta sting every Congress corruptocrat that perpetuated the big lies when Gaetz comes out as the voice of reason from that period…

Hey Meade - get your wife some new subscriptions for Christmas… the poor old woman is having to read 4-year old articles fer cryin’ out loud!

As for Trump never using the word ‘corruption’ on the calls, but only for an investigation of Biden, let me do the math:

Biden = corruption

Impeaching Trump for Biden’s corruption.

Those were the good old days.

It does seem that the corruption Hunter Biden is involved with is far, far more overt and sleazy than, say, Trump's overvaluing of properties. Trump asked a few questions and got impeached, and Hunter Biden pocketed all that money and got to party with hookers. Trump's character is nothing to brag about (although he does), but the Biden family are in muck up to their knees versus the mud on Trump's construction boots. (That metaphor might need some further work, but I just woke up.)......I'm rooting for Ukraine, and I hope things work out for them. If, however, the Ukrainian government has chosen to hitch their star to Joe Biden they're making a huge mistake. Maybe if Trump becomes President and pressures them to settle, it might be all for the best, but east European geopolitics is not my area of expertise.

Did you see that Ukraine has charged a man who talked to Giuliani with treason for trying to politically undermine Joe Biden? Not for lying about Biden, mind you. They probably discovered his identity when they raided Giuliani’s home and offices and stole all of his files, computers, and phones. Was Giuliani ever charged with any crime, because raiding Trump’s lawyers offices would seem to have required prior knowledge by the prosecutor of a crime, but it seems like it was just a fishing expedition and now the guy who talked to him will likely be executed.

This is democracy in Kiev, where political disputes are settled by assassination, there have been three there this past month if you count the assassination of the Russian pundit that Kiev has acknowledged.

It seems there was something to investigate after all. I wonder if there is ANY foreign aid that does not involve “consideration” for key politicians.

"“He didn’t say ‘corruption’ in the call and he asked for an investigation of Joe Biden"

Why did he need to say the *word* corruption? Asking for an investigation implied a belief in a need for an investigation. The first Trump impeachment was about assuming Trump had no other reason than to stop a political adversary, an assumption that was made, ironically, to stop a political adversary.

Mike of Snoqualmie said...

Nancy Pelosi drove Trump's impeachment to protect Biden's and her gravy train of corruption. Those kickbacks don't protect themselves, they need help from the corruptocrats in D.C.

Consider the source. If it appears in Vox then it's state propaganda aimed at less knowledgable/younger people. EVERYTHING happening in DC after's Hillary's email server was exposed (or after Julian Assange and Edward Snowden) has been part of one big and coordinated be-credible-stay-in-power-cover-it-up effort.

I recall Giuliani went over there, to Ukraine, looking for something.

Turns out there was something to find but apparently nobody, other than Trump loyalists, had any interest in even looking into it.

Trump never colluded with Russia to beat Hillary. The Steele dossier was filled with made-up crap - and was build at Hillary's command and payment.

Biden, his brother and son - are crooks and liars - Who - used Biden's VP status to enrich themselves. Secretly - using Ukraine and China to do so.

the hack press(D) are collectively disinterested in Joe's many aliases and bank accounts.

It’s not ironic, it’s a tried and true technique for hoodwinking the rubes. When you know you’re guilty of something, get an accusation out first against the other guy, because most people are honest and cannot conceive of such a trick. The first accusation sticks.

Look at all of the evidence that Grassley dug up that it was actually Hillary colluding with Ukraine in 2016. There is even a front page story in the New York Times in August of 2016, fed to it by Ukrainian politicians who had contact with Democrats in the White House, in Joe Biden’s offices there, meetings attended by the impeachment “whistleblower,” story full of Ukrainian lies that got Trump’s campaign manager fired, then they ignored all of the lying “Black Ledger” that made up the story because it could not be corroborated, and prosecuted Manafort for being an unregistered foreign agent, a crime we know that Hunter is guilty of, and a crime usually handled with a fine.

Ukraine certainly had a strong motivation to keep Trump out of office since he preferred negotiation with Russia, Hillary and then Biden preferred war. How is that working out?

None of this facts I have laid out here matter to the media, which is almost entirely controlled by the regime. This is why they hate X and Musk. Steve McIntyre’s fastidious examinations of White House visitor logs published on X brought a lot of this to light .

Monica Lewinsky said of Bill Clinton that true power was the ability to appear in public and not need to worry about being asked obvious but uncomfortable questions.

If Trump had used the word "corruption" in that conversation, then the impeachment complaint would have read "attempted to prejudice the course of legitimate inquiry..."

The inventive wit of Aristophanes, Juvenal, Swift, Carroll, and Twain would sputter and fall in the face of the reality of the Democratic Party. Satire demands exaggeration, but the politics of Pelosi and Biden leave no room for it.

Perhaps Trump wanted firm evidence before accusing Biden of corruption? That's the way our judicial system is supposed to work, isn't it? Or am I too old-school?

Trump was absolutely correct to bring this up with Zelensky. Trump was being asked to get on board with Ukraine's accession to NATO and to increased arms deliveries to Ukraine.

Doing either would risk war with Russia in the event of a Russian war with Ukraine, as we've seen now.

Russian propaganda about Ukrainian "corruption" was a part of Russia's cold war against Ukraine and Russia's current hot war against Ukraine.

So when the Vice President of the United States of America is taking bribes to meddle with Ukrainian choice of prosecutors and Ukrainian criminal justice it is a very big deal.

Trump had no duty to raise issues related to Ukrainian corruption. That's Ukraine's affair. He did have a duty to loudly object to Ukraine's attempt to bribe the vice president of the US. Trump was absolutely correct.

It is difficult to imagine any lawyer familiar with criminal law viewing QuidProJoe's brag on video about Shokin's firing without thinking it was a billion dollar extortion. Discovering Hunter's grifting with Burisma iced that cake.

The Trump impeachment was just another Democrat elite unfunny joke on the country. Rank and file Democrats are generally too stupid or too amoral to acknowledge that. (It isn't about ignorance when it's in plain sight. It's about stupidity.)

I, for one, find that recycling old news stories and just changing the dates on them provides for an interesting take on the world we live in today. And is often not noticably different from actual news stories of today. Almost like the same outline has been followed for a long time now, and stories are written only after the narrative is confirmed.

Don’t expect Vicki to have any lucid explanation of anything. That would be like expecting to see a display of skill and marksmanship from a drive-by shooter.

William at 7:01--I'd say that most of the Biden clan including the Big Guy is buried in corruption way beyond their knees. Howazabout buried at least six inches above their respective belt lines. For Lil Ol Hunter, the "smartest man that Slow Joe knows", I'd say the corruption level goes all the way up to his nose (with a little extra white powder to keep the nose above mud level).

You wonder how a guy who's lived on a government salary for virtually all his working life winds up with four mansions. But then what do I know? I've never lived on a government salary.
