"Carroll says she has not been able to form a romantic relationship since the encounter. She said she hasn’t had sex since then, either."

"'The short answer is because Donald Trump raped me," Carroll said. 'If I meet a man who is a possibility, it’s impossible for me to even look at him and smile,' Carroll said.... The courtroom fell silent as Carroll described her encounter with Trump in great detail. The jurors, who until that point had divided their attention between Carroll and her lawyer, turned their gaze to her alone. Their eyes were fixed on her as she described the pain she felt during the sexual assault, and how she could still feel it while sitting in the courtroom."

ADDED: Carroll described how she first encountered Trump at Bergdorf's:
“He came through the door and said, 'Hey, you are that advice lady,'” she testified, adding that she replied, “Hey, you’re that real estate tycoon.” She said she was delighted when he asked for her help selecting a gift. “I love to give advice, and here was Donald Trump asking me for advice about buying a present.... That was a wonderful prospect for me.”

Cinematic. I assume she's sold the movie rights to My Harrowing Encounter?

Remind me when this alleged event occurred?

And who witnessed what? By "witness" I mean "somebody present at the scene, awake, attentive, competent, sentient and of sound mind and memory then and now, not completely compromised then or now by conflicting interests for or against either party"?

Thanks, I'll take my answer off the air.

Statues of limitations exist for a good reason. And yes, I understand that this is not a criminal trial but a defamation case. It's terrible if she is telling the truth, but the notion that he is defaming her by denying her impossible to prove charges seems absurd. It puts Trump in an impossible no-win situation. I do understand that that is the intention. This gives women absolute power to destroy any man if they are sufficiently motivated to do so.

I've heard that we should believe all women in such matters, but unfortunately, leftist women have not had a great track record for telling the truth lately. "Dr. Babytalk" in the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings was Exhibit A.

I just Googled this. The alleged event dates to 2000 or so --23 years ago.

Everybody's different so I would love to hear from readers how much they remember from 2000. Details, please. Sure: we're talking "sexual assault" or rather the allegation of it. So it should loom large. But let's have the details.

More importantly, let's have the confident claims that, ever since, you have been utterly crippled in your social activity by what happened then with DJT --yet until now you were able to bide your time and hope for your moment.

Errr....back 75 years ago some considered rape worse than murder because the woman had to "go on living" after the crime. The average view of rape fully reversed over the decades where most now consider it better to live and adapt following adversity.

I was agnostic about this case, but now think Carroll is at best mentally unstable or Donald is literally superhuman. Trump had a pattern of "mentally breaking" everyone who crossed him politically. This testimony will become a meme and metaphor for the Democrats nationally: "I was never normal after Donald." He keeps setting up his rent-free nest in many heads...

Seems to me that these accusations will be impossible to verify. Given that it is a civil suit, the burden of proof is much lower and may pivot on who the jury finds more credible. When trump was seen as a leftist back before 2015, that would have been an even shot, but now that he is literally Hitler, a NY jury will not rule in his favor. What makes me less inclined to believe the accusation include: The Kavanaugh lynching, the length of time since the event, and the myriad cases against Trump that have turned out to be manufactured. I no longer trust that the left won't manufacture anything to destroy a conservative.

The bullshit never stops. This is unbelievable. A jury is is supposed to believe that Trump a famous person then and her a famous person then were supposed to have screwed in a department store during business hours and no one would have noticed or heard a thing. I said screwed because Trump was a horndog so I would not be surprised if he was screwing on the side. I suspect that she screwed him somewhere else and he didn't come back for more and decades later she files this outrageous suit to take him out for her own political reasons and get money from him to boot.

She's that lady that likes to shoot bows and arrows at pictures of the people she hates. She fantasizes about having nothing to lose and attacking people that she simply disagrees.

Some other things from the link:
Ms. Carroll has been divorced twice, but she has no regrets about her past relationships. She says she’s simply not meant for marriage. “You’re on this earth to have as many chaps as you want,” Ms. Carroll told me. She is, mostly out of curiosity, on Tinder, even though her new game, Damn Love, is a send-up of the app, and Tawkify, her matchmaking service, is positioned as an answer to the impersonal aspects of online dating. “There’s nobody in my vicinity, because I’m the oldest woman on Tinder,” she said. “But that’s great.”

She's had sex with no man since Trump raped her in 1996, but in 2015, she boasted to "The Observer" that she had a Tinder app, and "You're on this earth to have as many chaps as you want".

She may be telling the truth, but unless she has physical evidence to support any of her claim (she says she has the outfit from that day unwashed since the event and also never sent to a forensics lab for analysis); I'm thinking Trump was right to call her a liar.

“If you lose a round,” Ms. Carroll said, “it’s because you didn’t think evilly enough.”

Apparently, she can't say what year the alleged rape happened or what month of the year or what season of the year. That does not inspire confidence that her accusation is true unless one is strongly predisposed to believe anything bad about Donald Trump.
I'm trying to imagine, if the event was such a watershed in her life, how she would be unable to relate it to other things that happening in her life at the time. For example, did it affect her work? What was she working on at the time? Did it affect a romantic relationship? With who?
It makes it impossible for Trump to produce an alibi. Kavanaugh's accuser did the same thing.

DanTheMan said...

"The allegations against Mr Trump were first laid out in an excerpt from her book What Do We Need Men For? A Modest Proposal, that ran in New York magazine in June 2019."

So, she waited 20 years to report it, not by going to the police but by putting it in a book she wanted to sell.

She can't remember the year, it was decades ago, and she has no corroboration at all. But it just happens to damage a prominent Republican.

I think I've seen this movie before...

by Les Moonves?

HoodlumDoodlum said...

Later in the 1990s, Carroll said, Moonves attacked her after she interviewed him at a hotel for an article in Esquire. She said he followed her to the elevator at the hotel and assaulted her.

"I don't know how many apertures and openings you possess, Reader, but Moonves, with his arms squirming and poking and goosing and scooping and pricing and prodding and jabbing, is looking for fissures I don't even know I own, and -- by God! -- I am not certain that even if I pull off one of his arms it won't crawl after me and attack me in my hotel bed," Carroll wrote, comparing him to an octopus.

I assume she's suing Les Moonves for battery for that attack, also, given the unlimited statute of limitations of NY's Adult Survivors act? And for defamation also, since he denied it?

I'm sure this jury will give all the evidence a fair hearing--no doubt about that.

I'm still shocked that any law would allow a woman to sue for an event that she claims occurred 30 years prior. Thirty years ago was the year after 1992, "the Year of the Woman". Women were allowed to sue and were actively suing men left and right for sexual harassment, let alone rape. She kept quiet on this issue until Donald Trump was President and then in an email she confided with a friend to "scheme" to get Trump. It reveals her motive and truthfulness. Only in a NYC court would this farce be allowed.

Rape is violent. Nobody thinks rape is sexy. Except maybe E. Jean Carroll in her own twisted fantasies. The only possible reality is she is describing one of HER fantasies. Not a reality.

So what does Trump's legal team do? Find a guy willing to testify he's had sex with her in the last 25 years? But at this point, what guy in his right mind would admit that?

How does someone who believes "Most people think of rape as being sexy" and can say it on live TV, being interviewed about an alleged rape...engage in "normal" sex?

For me -- because I have been in depositions where similar things have happened -- the standout moment of this case so far was the one described here:

https://lawandcrime.com/live-trials/e-jean-carroll-rape-suit/donald-trump-skewered-in-court-for-mixing-up-rape-accuser-with-ex-wife-marla-maples-in-deposition-unsealed-docs/

I urge you dear readers to note the shameless and unprofessional (at the least) coaching of the witness Trump by attorney Alina Habba. I'd be calling for sanctions if I were opposing counsel, but the main thing is using the deposition transcript at trial and that is what began to happen as soon as opening statements began:

https://twitter.com/KlasfeldReports/status/1650954293904588801

During an Oct. 19 deposition at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, which was made public Wednesday, Trump was shown a photo from an NBC event around 1987.

The image shows him from behind, facing Carroll and her then-husband, television journalist John Johnson, with Trump’s then-wife, the late Ivana Trump standing to his right.

“It’s Marla,” said Trump about the photo.

Carroll’s lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, said, “You’re saying Marla is in this photo?”

Trump replied: “That’s Marla, yeah. That’s my wife.”

His lawyer Alina Habba then interjected, “No, that’s Carroll.”

Trump said, “Oh, I see.”

Kaplan then said, “The person you just pointed to was E. Jean Carroll.”

When Habba repeated to Trump, “That’s Carroll,” he replied, “That’s Carroll?”

Elsewhere in the deposition, Trump said of Carroll, “She’s not my type.”

“She is not a woman I would ever be attracted to,” he added later.

The deposition was attached to a court filing last week by Carroll’s lawyers, but became public Wednesday after Trump’s lawyers dropped their opposition to it being made public.

I have read in several articles that NY state passed a law to waive the statute of limitations restrictions for old sexual assault cases. However, no one ever gives any further explanation.

Did the state pass this law JUST to get another bite at the apple to "get Trump"? Or did they believe they needed to somehow show the normies that they are going to get tough on crime, and decided that sexual assaults was a permissible category to lock people up? (Yes, I know, Trump is not on trial for a criminal offense.)

IANAL, but how can such a law apply retroactively to someone that was already outside of the allowable statute of limitations? Doesn't American legal jurisprudence generally forbid the ex post facto application of new laws?

When was Trump ever seen as a leftist, and by whom? If such persons actually existed, they were/are idiots. More likely, you're either trolling or...trolling.

I served on numerous juries in NYC (Manhattan) over 40 years--civil, criminal, and grand juries--and, in my experience in all cases, the jurors I've served with have been exceedingly conscientious, always going to great pains to be judicious and fair to the defendants (or the accused in grand juries) and to apply the law as explained by the judges in each case.

I'm sure there are jurors who are not so fastidious, and jury decisions that may not have been well-founded, but I have not seen such jurors or been party to such outcomes.

We shouldn't forget Ivana Trump's deposition given in her divorce case. She testified that after Donald went to a plastic surgeon recommended by Ivana, to surgically reduce a bald patch on his scalp, Trump returned to their apartment in a rage, because he was in pain and thought that the surgeon had "ruined" him. Ivana testified that Donald ripped her clothes off and penetrated her (she felt "violated") for the first time in sixteen months. As he pulled out clumps of her hair, apparently as a form of vengeance for what he had experienced.
