"MAGA Republicans seemed to think that the scary setting for Biden’s alarming message was somehow beneficial to them..."

"... and they soon began sharing images of the dramatic black-and-neon-red scene. 'I can’t believe this is a real photograph,' J. D. Vance, the Trump-backed Republican nominee for Senate in Ohio, tweeted. 'It depicts the president of our nation, as he took to the airwaves and spoke about his fellow citizens as if they were sewer rats.' Rick Scott, the Republican Senate campaign chief, tweeted the photo and dismissed Biden as a 'raving lunatic' who 'attacked half the country tonight.' Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas, called it a 'hate speech.' Over on Fox News, Tucker Carlson was very, very angry about the 'blood-red Nazi background' and the Marine honor guard in front of Independence Hall, a setting that he termed a 'complete outrage.' Even before Biden spoke, Kevin McCarthy—the House Minority Leader, whose slavish devotion earned him the sobriquet 'my Kevin' from Trump—gave a prebuttal, in which he said that the President should 'apologize for slandering tens of millions of Americans as fascists.'"

Writes Susan B. Glasser in "Joe Biden’s This-Is-Not-Normal Speech on the Rising Danger of MAGA Trumpists/The President calls out Trump and his Republicans, and they see red" (The New Yorker).

Glasser's penultimate sentence: "How telling it is that, when the President of the United States today speaks of threats to the nation, he is warning not about adversaries abroad but the danger within."

She means that to read pro-Biden, strangely enough.

The New Soviet Democraticals know that the jig is up with their lies about the economy and freedom. Even the lefty purveyors of those lies at Althouse blog, Howard, gadfly et al, don't believe the lies they push.

And it is clear the internal polling for the dems for Nov shows there is no way to keep pushing the "Build Back Better" BS and the "no one is just walking across the border" BS so the decision has been made: The New Soviet Democraticals and their GOPe allies will simply declare war on tens of millions of voters in the hopes that an internal "war" will distract from Democratical policy failures in the same way dictators have used external wars in the past when economic failure occurred.

So how much of the population has to be against Biden’s agenda to go from “threats to the nation” to just being The Nation? The more the idiots who are using Biden as a sock puppet show their intentions the more we see they are the threat to America. Even Democrats should be waking up to this now. But they are too invested. They know there is no other way for them to retain power and wealth for themselves.

Try criticizing a leftist or a democratic bad idea on a non-political chat room.

Here - we have local crime-reporting chat rooms - sometimes people speak out about the pro-crime democrats and their pro-criminal polices that have led to the massive up-tick in crime.
The left cannot handle criticism in any way. They lose their minds.

The level of cluelessness by our Betters in the 'elite' press has yet to peak. It is ever rising and ever more astounding.

Of this I have no doubt: Their dinner table conversation among friends is a guaranteed parody of itself. I wish some brave soul would do us the favor of recording such an encounter. It would be gold.

Still, how did it get to be like this? We are all confronted with the same facts, the same realities, the same access to information. How can it be that our 'elite' thinkers are so unfamiliar with the millions they share their country with and somehow seem to not be getting the whole story? It has to come down to choice. One chooses to not know something that would go against ones preconceived notions. In that way, they can stay pure to the Cause. Party above Nation. Cause above Party. Cause above everything.

It's amazing, that after Hillary, and now with Biden... they can't just say "hey! we have differences! let's reconcile and get along!"

I would not have expected a speech titled "The Soul of A Nation" to be something other than a "let's get back together!" speech.

Instead, it was Hitler at the Reichstag in 1939!
All I can think is that the people (person?) coordinating the stage layout had NO IDEA of how things built to WWII.

Unless they did have a very good idea of it!

"President Turnip has F-15s. Do you? President Turnip directs a military armed with non-gendered pronouns and led by a thick-bodied, bag-eyed yes man in touch with his privilege and aware of his own white rage. Do you? President Turnip has the unwavering support of Max Boot and Jen Rubin — two of this country’s most beautiful minds. Do you?

“Dark Brandon,” flanked by Marines and backed by Hellish lighting, mumbled, shouted, and emoted his way through a Hitleresque scapegoating of large swaths of the population. And his call to arms has energized all the woke and virtuous defenders of democracy, who are now demanding a one-party system and the shunning of Republicans as lesser humans. Because, in the same way you sometimes have to destroy villages to save them, sometimes you have to become an unelected Administrative dictatorship to save democracy from the benighted and filthy MAGAts who so frustratingly vote incorrectly.

President Turnip’s speech — presented with the full backing of the Executive branch and its law enforcement and justice arms — was perhaps the most egregious speech ever given by a US president. It was more than simply divisive. It was tacit permission to treat those who don’t favor progressive governance as enemies of the State. It’s the summer of 2020 with presidential approval. It’s dangerous. It’s unconscionable."

Yes, Susan. It's a real problem when the President of the United States uses his platform to otherize and demonize those who believe differently than him, his own citizens. It is a problem when he calls such believers "a clear and present danger."

I read the speech and the use of "MAGA Republicans" is repugnant. Because there is no definition and it is basically saying "Republicans, except those few who have denounced Trump."

That's 74 MILLION voters less than 2 years ago who aligned with Trump when it came time to cast a vote. That's an insane wedge to drive home, let alone in an official planned speech with a militarized and dramatic stage.

This is the type of basis that resulted in Democrats calling for Trump's impeachment, with far less basis in Trump's actual statements at the time.

However, far, far more concerning to me is that he's doing this while:
- The former President has been under continuous investigation for 5+ years without a single finding of guilt.
- The FBI and executive branch more broadly are actively leaking against the former President, without a single showing of effort to lockdown and punish such leaks.
- Huge portions of the population believe - and have personally witnessed - election fraud at the state level leading to questionable state and federal election results. This has happened in many elections over the past 2 decades. The President and his party have been the advocates of looser election controls and lambasted demands for independent audits and oversight.

....

Lastly, as the person in power, he's declaiming his opponents as fascists....while taking fascist actions.

I'm not saying the Hard Right is rationale or sometimes promotes civil unrest. Guess what - so does the hard left.

But only one of those sides is also represented in the presidency - backed with legal, national police force (FBI), and military might.

Why would somebody pick Independence Hall as the site of their first National Televised Address, where the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were debated and finalized, and then light it up to look like the gates of hell? It's hard to imagine this as a thoughtful, mindful strategy geared to garner political support. It looks like hell! I could imagine somebody like that cross-dressing fool of an intern whose videos were circulating early on, coming up with an imbecilic idea like that, on that level. Disturbing that there could be someone in authority thinking it was a good idea.

And it's hard also to imagine this as a device to amplify the animus toward Trump voters, representing half the country, on the hopes that it might provoke an angry response. One thing is clear though: If it was a provocation attempt, there has been no response aside from verbally-expressed outrage, heartfelt, from both sides of the political divide. That would really drive them crazy - and also perhaps make them a little more fearful of the response that does eventually come. Double down? Or back down?

Just like Obama, Biden seeks alliance with murderous Iran while speaking of political opponents as if they are enemies. What these weirdly partisan screeds never point out is the Republican call to adhere to our Constitution and the rule of law. It’s a constant battle to keep true to our shared ideals. Look how the DNC media now flocks to justify that hideous ugly speech. Mean old men screaming about the “soul of the nation” is weird but Susan Glasser leaps in to lend her hand Nazifying the Democrats just like Joe. I wonder if either one even knows what the letters in their new favorite word stand for? Because sounding out the initials for Make America Great Again sounds like baby talk. Mega ultra baby talk. Their problem is that their timing window is rapidly closing. Two years ago, many states already had their ballots printed, received, and starting to go out. The only way that they can hope to win is via mail in ballots, and they take time. Back when HR1 was on the agenda, they could have possibly gotten it enacted in plenty of time. But it isn’t going to pass Congress now - it would take 60 votes in the Senate, and the Dems have 50+Harris. That means implementing their election cheating gimmicks via Executive Order, and very likely through the (Civil Rights Division of the) DOJ. That isn’t going to work. Might have before the EPA case, and the mobs threatening Supreme Court Justices. Trying it would be very blatant Executive Branch overreach.

This is why I expect Trump to be indicted. The DOJ can’t afford to do both, override state voting laws and indict Trump on fictitious charges. I think that that would turn into a bloodbath for the Dems in two months, and guarantee that the DOJ (along with the FBI) get moved to the top of Congress’ investigation list in January, above the J6 investigation and Pelosi’s money grubbing.

This is not about votes and persuasion. This is about using the powers of government to threaten political opponents. Merrick Garland has been publicly threatening Trump with indictment for weeks now, first with the J6 bullshit and now with the Mar-a-Lago bullshit. We all know that Merrick Garland does not have an ethical bone in his prehensile spine, so the only thing holding him back is fear, fear of what will happen if he goes too far. It is evident that he is hoping to frighten Trump into silence, without having to actually burn the Reichstag. QuidProJoe and Howard illustrate what happens when half a country lack the capacity for embarrassment or introspection.

"I do think anyone who calls for the use of violence and fails to condemn violence when its used..."

1. Whom, on the MAGA Trump side of things, has called for the use of political violence?
2. Whom, on the Marxist Groomer Gang side of things (like Howard and Hag) has condemned violence when it's been used?

Classic instance of the old saw, "when you point a finger remember how many are pointing back at you."

Biden crawfished today and said he does not consider any Donald Trump supporters to be a "threat" to the U.S., though he said the failure to condemn violence for political gains was "inappropriate."

Der Fuhrer has spoken.

You know Democrats have messed up when the NY Times frames the story as "Republicans React to..." rather than just working the story.

I go between thinking that last night's speech was an attempt to incite violence that can be blamed on Trump supporters or a sign of a last-minute resignation by Biden for health reasons before midterms. Sure few like or trust Harris, but we are Americans. When we perceive an emergency at a national level we band together. We find out that Biden has experienced a health emergency - something like a mini-stroke that does not recognize his current mental impairment - and must resign for the good of the nation. He looks the hero, anyone who questions Harris' abilities looks the traitor, and Democrats and independents who were going to vote against Democrats in the midterm will say, "Let's give them another chance".

If MAGA Republicans are so wrong in thinking the image was not good for Biden, why didn't The New Yorker include it in their article?

People often ask how ordinary Germans stood by and did nothing while the Holocaust began and continued. Just think of them this way- they were just like Howard in temperment and character.

It is hilarious, of course, less than 24 hours after calling Trump voters a danger to democracy and the US in explicit language to have Biden come out today and say he thinks no such thing. This isn't gaslighting any longer- it just dementia and stupidity full stop. Biden has probably already forgotten the speech he gave last night.

Howard, you live that speech. It is your outlook on life. Be a good German while you can/

Perhaps Beiden’s October surprise is to use his F15’s to bomb the Texas State Capitol. Then the next day he could say he had no plans to bomb anything.

“I tend to agree with whoever said this is preparation for something before the election. What it is I cannot predict but it will be something crazy. Demanding mail in ballots sounds like something they would think of. After all, HR1 was about that”

Can the federal government demand that states conduct state elections according to Executive Order?

Doesn't the constitution specifically give the state legislatures that power?

And...why would indicting Trump help suppress Trump supporters, especially when so many of the people he supported in the primaries are now on the ballot?

Howard: "I have not watched or listened to Biden's speech."

Not necessary.

Like all Democratical automatons you embody the speech. No need to listen when you come pre-programmed.

"To be so blind to alternative ways to read it. She wants to be persuasive."

I see your point. Yes, for progs to be so blind is still striking, and you are right to notice. But does she want to be persuasive? Does anyone on the left actually try to persuade? At least in the MSM and on social media, I rarely see it. Maybe Alan Blinder, occasionally, in the WSJ, but I'm not sure he counts--anyone else?

Especially after last night, what could persuasion even mean?

You are so fucking dumb.

That is the last thing you want.

It's how you get more Trump.

Or a Trump-like figure who is much smarter and effective.

This is how you get Pinochet.

BIDEN walking it back: "I don't consider any Trump supporter to be a threat. I do think anyone who calls for the use of violence and fails to condemn violence when its used, refuse to acknowledge an election has been won… That is a threat to democracy."

"...refuse to acknowledge an election has been won."

Can that be the purpose of Joe's speech? Perhaps the Democrats intend to cheat their way to victory in all future elections and arrest anyone who complains about the cheating. Lubyanka prison will soon be full.

One thing I'd note about the stagecraft was that the main stage was lighted blood red, while the wings to either side were lighted a dark blue, which isn't so bad except for the fact that on the tight shot of Biden at the podium, the blue wasn't visible, only the blood red. It looked worse on television than it would have looked at the event. Whoever did the advance work should have known what the televised image would look like. Unless it was deliberate, it was a screwup of monumental proportions. Those optics repel the normies.

Gropes and Company know the death of progressivism is nigh and are desperate to forestall the inevitable. A century of utter failure on every policy is being exposed despite the state media attempting to disguise the failure. It's ironic that all it took was a senile, mediocre hack that has populated the rank morass that is DC for half that run to open up people's eyes. That their purposeful use of the Flu Manchu to get rid of Trump and the ensuing economic carnage we are and will be experiencing for some time to come will be their death is both ironic and delicious.
