"Crimo attempted suicide in April 2019. Then, in September of the same year, he announced to his family that he wanted 'to kill everyone.'"

"Police visited the Highland Park home where Crimo lived with his father and uncle, and confiscated 16 knives, a dagger and a sword. Because no complaints were filed, there was no further investigation. Still, if these incidents didn’t raise red flags, then the world must be color blind. Three months later, Robert Crimo began buying guns with his father’s signed approval. The real quiet kid passed four federal background checks, purchasing five guns — including the one used at the parade.... Had Bob Crimo been nosier, he might have discovered that his quiet son was quite loquacious as his online persona named Awake The Rapper. Posting thousands of videos, songs, messages and photos, he was a young man clearly obsessed with violence.... He was also a dedicated contributor to an online forum where people share violent photos and videos of people dying. How could so many have missed what is now so obvious?"

New "red flag" funding was just approved by Congress and signed by Biden. We can only hope that they do better; there is no way that a guy who came into contact with police when they had to take a sword away from him because he threatened to kill his family should ever have passed any kind of background check, yet somehow he did.

OMG how could Bobby do something like this it's so not like him!!!. We live in a stupid society where every social resource that exists, exists to enable idiocy to breed. It's been this way for 60 years.

Also, the family - especially the dad - are in some serious hot water for the FOID sponsorship...and they know it.

I have noticed the early attempts to label the deranged man a Trump supporter went silent. Must mean he has written Obama love notes.

Not sure how to stem this tide, unless it is a very un-ceremonious execution within days of shooting. Out self appointed intellectual betters have failed at core causes solution. This one has two parents. That does not disprove the vast number of perpetrators are males with no father figure. Until society starts shaming single parents, I see no solution is sight. It is a fact, no govt lead attempt will do anything but make it worse.

Serious Question
WHY isn't the dad in jail, charged with either aiding/abetting, or conspiracy to commit?

if you ask me, it seems like the Real psychopaths are the parents

Might have opened his eyes, and taken a quick glance at his son.. That should have done it.

Either:
The dad had never seen his son, not once, in his life..
OR
The Dad was MAKING a murderous freak

Because it's not obvious at all. How many weirdos and f'd up people frequent forums mentioned above? Add that number to the otherwise normal people that frequent forums mentioned above. Add that to the total number of people that frequent other forums: horror, violent fetish, crazy metal music - horror core, etc.
Also from the article:"he's made threats of killing people". Did he? In the article it claims he "announced" he "wanted to kill everyone" - the link is bad. How many angsty kids, drunk people, drug addled, and just plain old piss off people will make that same claim today?
In fairness, the writer finally admits - (assume in the voice of Emily Litella) "logistical impossibility of monitoring everyone with a pattern of violence, it seems that certain guns are the problem."
Never mind, blame the scary looking gun.
(Pattern of violence? Where did that come from anyway?)
No doubt this kid was a nutball long before he really proved it. At the local Dollar General, every other customer looks at least as goofy as him. Who knows what their browsing history looks like (Yikes!).

So under your interpretation of the 2nd amendment (Are you in the constitutional carry crowd?), why shouldn't this guy not be able to buy any weapon he wants? He has no criminal record, no involuntary commitment, he should be good to go.

His dad is a 2nd Amendment proponent, ran for mayor as a Republican. Little Crimo is now a happy boy because daddy helped him get his heart’s desire, some guns to make him feel powerful, to make him forget about suicide and killing everyone in his family. Now he was distracted by fantasies of killing innocent strangers at happy gatherings. Little Crimo was excited by Trump, wrapped himself in a Trump flag and had fun playing dress up at a Trump rally, made him forget all about killing mommy and daddy.

Denise Pesina Confronts SWAT Personnel and Police, Exposes Breast in Front of Her Home After Highland Park Parade Shooting
Denise Pesina wasn’t cooperating with police.
While police assembled and waited, Denise Pesina accosted police and walked back and forth down her street in front of her home. She twirled her body, while pointing at equipment and personnel, and a helicopter overhead. She appeared to be ridiculing the police response, but she was too far from the police perimeter tape to hear and understand her exact words.
At one point she gestured in a sort of mime action that she was pulling down her revealing spaghetti strap top, and then her pants. Then she walked back toward her home, and when she walked past two personnel assigned to SWAT, she pulled down her top to expose her right breast.

Highland Park shooting suspect’s mother was convicted of abandoning him in hot car when he was two
it remains unclear if a then-two-year-old Mr Crimo sustained any injuries.

The disturbing incident is just one of many interactions between law enforcement and the family..officers were called to Mr Crimo’s home at least nine times between 2010 and 2014 over domestic disputes between his mother Ms Pesina and father Bob Crimo.
In one incident, Bob Crimo – accused Ms Pesina of hitting him with a shoe while in another he claimed she attacked him with a screwdriver.
The new details offer a glimpse into the troubled home life of the 21-year-old accused mass shooter, as his parents continue to brush off any responsibility

I predict that "well intentioned" red flag regulations will devolve into just another means for Progressives to persecute their enemies.

You heard it here first.

hawkeyedjb said...

Each iteration of gun laws that don't work produces the demand for more gun laws that don't work. You can see the difficulty here - if the father can't see that his son shouldn't have guns, who's going to raise the Red Flag? And the news media continue their desperate search for that elusive, mythical NRA member who commits murder...

By the way, it's not "gun violence." It's "criminal violence" committed by criminals with guns. None of the guns laws proposes to do anything about criminals, so the violence will continue.

BUMBLE BEE said...

His parents ars not terribly different from your garden variety Biden/Harris voter.
Change my mind.

Lloyd W. Robertson said...

As the gun advocates will surely point out, red flag laws will not catch someone if an entire family is crazy together, and the neighbours think it's none of their business. On the other hand, we can expect today that red flag laws could be used by political partisans to hurt the careers and life chances of people who disagree with them.

Setting aside a crazy family: mental illness. How much progress has really been made in understanding this? Apparently drugs can treat some symptoms, at least for a while. Psychiatrists have a theory about chemicals in the brain, but I'm not sure there is a lot of neurology, brain structure and function, to back this up. Similarly electroshock still works on some people, but I'm not sure anyone knows why.

Is mental illness something that can be made worse by our combination of isolation, loneliness, and the internet? Is it true that teaching about transgressive sex in the youngest grades in school can make it seem exciting to try some kind of acting out in an otherwise lonely and frightening world?

Mary Beth said...

How could we miss what was so obvious? Because any police department will see hundreds or even thousands of others like him that will never go shoot people. Usually, the police are doing what we ask - treating crime as crime but treating mental health issues differently.

The problem is, then what? A subject can't be held for more than 72 hours, if there is room for them. The wards are full of people who have already done horrible things and have already been diagnosed with mental illness. (Also people who have had horrible things done to them and more obviously need treatment than someone who might just be acting out because he has a shit life.)

Judging the father also seems unduly cruel just now.

And then she does just that. Who buys guns for someone who attempted suicide? It doesn't make sense. Don't buy guns, lock up your pills, monitor the suicidal person's behavior.

I also understand how a parent might miss what others see. He would have a lot more "normal" interactions with his son. The weird stuff would seem like an aberration where it would look like a red flag to an outsider. So, while I think it was irresponsible, I don't blame him entirely.

Since I couldn't get past the paywall - https://archive.ph/Sxfpn#selection-839.0-839.123

Jersey Fled-
You're correct in your prediction.
The intent of the "Red Flag" regulations is to make it easier for Progressives to persecute their enemies.
I sent a message to Sen. Cornyn expressing my displeasure at his sponsorship of the most recent capitulation to the gun-grabbing mob. He sent me a canned albeit detailed response outlining all of the protections in the Act so that law-abiding people have nothing to object to or fear that their rights would be imperiled.
I think he really believes it.
Sad.

We don't have a 'gun' problem in America. We have a parent problem in America. Too many families with a single parent, unable to give their kid(s) attention and proper parenting, not to mention food on the table. And too many families with couple parents who have neither the interest in, or ability to parent. One of my favorite movie lines comes from the movie "Parenthood" in which Keanu Reeves, playing a goofy, un-parented kid remarks, "....you need a license to catch a fish. But they'll let any butt-reaming asshole be a father.". Parenting, from Parenthood I'm sure I've linked this previously at some point. And so it continues to come up.

Our societal guards are asleep at the wheel. Every one of the recent past mass shooters had left plenty of signs along the way. Some of them did actually tell the world what they intended to do. We've got a ton of problems as a society and they are on display with each of these situations. Teachers at school, police, people reading social media, and of course, parents and family members- no one says anything when someone they know is odd proclaims that he's going to kill people?

The gun did not do this. We did. Politicians and media folk who come on and preen about 'the guns' are displaying that they know nothing about what is happening and are the least competent ones to be leading any form of solutions. Our problems lie much deeper than adding another form to fill out for a gun.

My wife said yesterday that if I got face and neck tats, started talking about killing everyone, threatened her and family, went to twisted weird websites that talked about the same thing (and apparently the government is totally ignorant they exist.. but they do monitor facebook), she would turn me in!

We both agree that with so many 'red flags' one has to act cause we do have a duty to society.

Apparently the nutjob Crimo's parents didn't think that way. Instead the father helped him buy the guns he used.

And to me that is AN ACCESSORY BEFORE THE FACT. Crimo's Daddy should be in jail to.

and the neighbours think it's none of their business.

It wasn't the neighbors who failed, It was the police. Of course this is Illinois where incompetence reigns. Just look at Chicago. The aurora shooting was an even better example.

The killer was a felon who legally bought the gun he used to kill coworkers.

Given his criminal record, gunman Gary Martin should not have been able to obtain a gun-owner license or a firearm in 2014. When law enforcement discovered he had both, they were unsuccessful in getting them back.

Now, law enforcement is under pressure to explain how Martin kept the gun, which he used to kill five people shortly after he was fired from Henry Pratt Co. on February 15. Police killed Martin in the rampage.

Probably because he was black. In Illinois that's a get out of jail free card.

The police confiscated weapons and should have kept an eye on this kid. Just look at him !

By the way, I have been suspended from Facebook for commenting that the parents were accessories.

How many mass-shooters have this same story? It seems like almost all them. Buffalo, Ulavle, the NJ shooting, Michagan, and the one in Florida. Kids who are violent, suicidal, and taking some sort of medicine for their mental illness. And in almost every case the authorities, the school, and/or the parents ignored the red flags.

You can pass all the red flag laws, and laws regarding background checks, you want. But if the people executing the laws are incomptent or refuse to take action, they're worthless. The Highland shooter didn't have an assault rifle. But how did he get any kind of firearm?

more stuff about the mom
Highland Park Fourth of July suspect's mother had troubled past including abuse allegations

And in 2012, Pesina was sentenced to a year of probation and 100 hours of community service for driving under the influence after getting pulled over with a flat tire and a BAC of .21%. She had a "strong odor of alcohol on breath and failing [field sobriety tests]," a police officer wrote in a report at the time.

One shocking case came before Crimo III was born involving Pesina's ex-boyfriend, Steven Brown.

In 1999, Pesina sought an order of protection against Brown, whom she accused of sexually assaulting her 4-year-old daughter, Crimo III's half-sister. The girl's father had previously died of carbon monoxide poisoning, according to court documents. She also had to sue to establish paternity so that the child could have a share of her father's estate.
died of carbon monoxide poisoning means he killed himself? Or SHE killed Him?

Pesina had other issues with men besides her husband while Crimo III was growing up.

A man named David Daniels is named in several police reports at the family’s home, claiming to be Pesina’s "boyfriend.."
"I've seen this a million times, where alcoholic parents then feel guilty because they were drinking and carrying on and fighting and everything while raising the kid, and their guilt causes them to be enablers," Kelly, the criminal profiler, said.
