January 12, 2022

If Trump is coming back, why not Hillary too? Let's relive 2016 in 2024. Wouldn't that be great?

I'm lured into this absurd clickbait at The Wall Street Journal: "Hillary Clinton’s 2024 Election Comeback/Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have become unpopular. It may be time for a change candidate" by Douglas E. Schoen and Andrew Stein.
A perfect storm in the Democratic Party is making a once-unfathomable scenario plausible: a political comeback for Hillary Clinton in 2024.

Several circumstances—President Biden’s low approval rating, doubts over his capacity to run for re-election at 82, Vice President Kamala Harris’s unpopularity, and the absence of another strong Democrat to lead the ticket in 2024—have created a leadership vacuum in the party, which Mrs. Clinton viably could fill....

So the point is, the Democrats somehow have no one. "Viable" means capable of living. The party is so bereft of life that it might dig up Hillary and run her again. That said, I remember "The New Nixon," the 1968 Nixon. She's in the same position: Lost an election, sat out the next election, and then came back and won/could win. And Nixon always seemed unappealing.

The authors of the WSJ piece never mention Nixon. Because he is so unappealing. But he's the accurate comparison if you want to argue it can be done, which they do.

In a recent MSNBC interview, Mrs. Clinton... took a veiled jab at the Biden administration and congressional Democrats in an effort to create distance: “It means nothing if we don’t have a Congress that will get things done, and we don’t have a White House that we can count on to be sane and sober and stable and productive.”

Did she mean to say that Biden is not sane, not sober, no stable, and not productive?

Hillary Clinton remains ambitious, outspoken and convinced that if not for Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey’s intervention and Russian interference that she would have won the 2016 election—and she may be right.

It's good to be reminded of her similarity to Trump: She never accepted the results of the election.

If Democrats want a fighting chance at winning the presidency in 2024, Mrs. Clinton is likely their best option.

"Best" = they've got nothing better.

I would love for Trump to beat her ass again. She is more disliked than the cackling VP we have now. We don't need a cackling President who is corrupt and belongs in prison but has the FBI and other intel agencies on her side.....(either that, or the Clintons have something on all of them) You want a civil war?? Clickbait is the accurate description.

I just don't see the Democratic voting base wanting to hitch their wagon to her, especially after the 2016 result. And we're still roughly 1-2 years away from the primaries, an eon in Presidential election terms. Someone else will emerge, I believe.

She embodies half of the Dragon Lady stereotype: strong, deceitful, domineering. The other half - mysterious, and often sexually alluring - not so much.

You can make the Hillary-Nixon analogy but Hillary is not in Nixon's position in 1968.

Remember that LBJ's (effectively second) term fell apart as badly as Brandon's first term is right now. Nixon got put on the sidelines at exactly the right time to avoid getting the stink of Vietnam, race riots, and other civil unrest all over himself and the GOP brand. He could run as the revival of the Eisenhower era.

Hillary is in the Hubert Humphrey position of trying to claim she's going to do a better job of implementing policies that nobody really wants to see implemented.

I think you need to look at Governors for Democrats who will consider running in primaries. My scenario is that at some point in late 2022 or 2023 Biden announces he won’t run again but does not resign. That prevents Harris from becoming a sitting President. They know she is unpopular but if she was a sitting President, it would be tough to primary her. She would lose in a landslide. I think Hillary tries to drive other candidates out of the spotlight early but fails. You have a primary field of Democrat governors like Newsome, the CO guy and a few others. Maybe Mayor Pete and some cabinet people. I see no one viable in that group but that is all they have available. My dark horse in General Miley. He has positioned himself as a loyal D and can be packaged as a social justice warrior yet a pragmatic statesman/soldier. He would be the real deep state candidate

I see no analysis being done into any of the following truly critical areas:

- Why her time as Senator and SoS and first lady actually hurt her.
- How her failures, particularly Benghazi, slowed her down.
- How she lost to Trump.
- How her foundation's donations basically imploded post election loss.

I also see no analysis being done into:

- Why Democrats, with 22 governors and the Senate among other feeder paths to executive power, have no bench strength.
- Why Democrats wound up failing all of their up and coming candidates in the 2020 election in favor of a 5 decade near 80 year old gaffe machine with a history of lying and never actually changing anything.

....

To the latter issue with Democrats, I would argue that in their constant desire to appease the base and the way in which the base operates, any "leader" who emerges is automatically destroyed because you must - above all - take ungovernable opinions to be accepted as a democrat. It's a great way to keep a foaming mob, a terrible way to develop party leaders. Hence why we have Stacy Abrams and Hillary Clinton, electoral losers who have never accepted their loss as legitimate, being represented as party leaders.

The Democrats actually have people they can run who might win a general election. But they could never win a Democratic primary. While I disagree with Tulsi Gabbard on most issues, she is at least sane and mainstream. Same for Joe Manchin, I disagree with him on half the issues, but he is sane and mainstream. I am sure that others are out there, but you will never hear of them because they are deliberately ignored by a ultra-leftist media who do not want them to get airtime.

And running Killary would be the worst mistake they could make other than trying to rerun Biden.

Her 2016 nomination was due to the enormous amount of power she wielded behind the scenes in the DNC, which went hand in hand with her remarkable knack for fundraising.

The thought of a comeback is quite entertaining. If she pulls it off, then the fact that she somehow still wields power will be, for me, one of the most amusing aspects.

Certainly seems that way with the F-ups coming fast and furious just like his Admin. The only difference is that this Admin doesn’t have a charming youngish Black man to represent it publicly. Everyone was so hypnotized by Obama they ignored his many disasters. Not so, with Biden. All the ugliness is out in the open.
Now, Hillary, I doubt very much would be willing to be any one’s puppet. So who has the power in their party? Obama or Clinton. I think Obama, so not likely to see Hillary run.

I just don't see the Democratic voting base wanting to hitch their wagon to her, especially after the 2016 result. And we're still roughly 1-2 years away from the primaries, an eon in Presidential election terms. Someone else will emerge, I believe.

Who is going to "emerge"? From where?

Andrew Cuomo was a potential threat, so the Democrats got rid of him.

Newsom? The campaign ads showing him in The French Laundry would nuke him in the Primary, and the GE if he got that far.

You can't be a brand new governor for a year, and then successfully run for President. So, which Democrat Governors right now are creating a positive name for themselves?

Lacking any of those, which members of the Biden* Admin are making a positive name for themselves?
Merrick "Parents who care about their kids education are domestic terorists" Garland?
Pete "I went on un-announced paternity leave during a major crisis in my department" Buttplug?

Which Democrat Senators are creating a name for themselves? Of those, which can possibly win the Democrat nomination?

So, who do they have left?
Hillary, Oprah, Michelle?

Obama slaughtered the Democrat Bench in 2010. In 2012 he won by weaponizing the IRS, and Romney's incompetence (see ORCA)
In 2022 Biden* will slaughter the Democrat's bench, possibly even worse than Obama did in 2010. In 2024, the Democrats are going to br running a loser as their candidate.

In 2026, if the Democrats are really lucky, they'll get some people who aren't either utterly repulsive, or total non-entities, to win governor's races.

Which means that in 2032 the Democrats could have a reasonable Presidential candidate. If identity politics doesn't completely get in the way

Until then? They've got bupkis

This is why America can't have nice things. The same corrupt shits in both parties keep coming back, over and over again. And too many voters are too stupid, cowed, deluded, fooled, or resigned to such shitty people as the norm that they don't tell these corrupt shits in both parties who keep coming back to fuck off.

Trump got rid of the Bushes, and they won't be ever coming back.

The Clintons keep coming back because :
1: The Democrats are a crap and corrupt Party
2: Obama nuked the Democrat Bench
3: Biden*'s going to nuke the current Democrat Bench in Nov

What the Democrats desperately need is for a competent Democrat who's neither a repulsive bully (Whitmer) or an utter non-entity (Evers, Walz, Wolfe) to win twice as Governor of a competitive State where the balance of power is such that the lunatic Left can't force him / her so far to teh Left as to be non-viable on a National stage.

But I think it's going to take a while for that to happen

You watched the 2020 democrat primary...

What on God's green earth makes you think the Democratic voting base has any say whatsoever in who is nominated to lead the party?

Why do you people even pretend what democrat voters want matters?

Nobody gives a shit what democrat voters think, least of all the Democrat party.

Kamala Harris for VP? Joe ShitsHisPantsInPublic?

What? Where does this thinking come from? What evidence do you have that supports any of this?

If Democrats decide it will be Hillary it will be Hillary. And the stupid people that vote for democrats will be just like the stupid people that supported Mitt Romney in 2012.

It is a Potemkin Village from top to bottom.

They should skip the affirmative action aspect and just foist Dick Cheney on them.

And you know they would take it right in the ass for Dick.

The only person that supported more wars than Dick is shitting his pants in the Oval Office right now.

Well the other person that supported more wars than Dick is hitting the wine bottles pretty hard now but is currently the front runner for the democrat nomination...

Hillary actually believes that she could win a presidential election. The woman will not just shut up and go away. Hillary, listen to me, the majority of the American people do not want you, do not want Joe Biden, do not want Kamala Harris either. Democrats get some NEW people to run for president. This is a kick in the teeth to Resident Joe Biden who claims that he is running for re-election in 2024. She’s swooping in and trying to push an unsteady, old man aside. Not nice. Wait to Dr. Jill hears about this!

Instead of Hillary going for a trifecta of losing, why not nominate the irresistibly good-looking, charismatic governor of CA? He represents a new generation of democrats grifters.

Outside of the Clinton family and its hangers-on the only people who had any enthusiasm for Hillary Clinton were women who wanted the "glass ceiling" to be "shattered." They had a lot of enthusiasm for the campaign, but it wasn't enthusiasm for Hillary personally. They've moved on since then. Kamala Harris, or Liz Warren, or what the heck, even Michelle Obama or Pete Buttigieg would serve as well.

Those other politicians also seem a little more contemporary than Hillary Clinton. The "sell-by date" concept became popular in political discussions a few years back. If you don't get elected president a certain number of years or cycles after appearing on the national scene, you will probably never get elected. The concept isn't very well defined, but as politicians go, Hillary isn't the freshest.

Senator Fauxcahontas stated that she wanted single payer. Which is to say, Fauxcahontas said she wanted to take away the nice health care packages of all those upper middle class suburban families.

Or to put it more bluntly: Fauxcahontas told all those suburban moms that she was going to take away their children's health care.

I would love for Warren to be the Dem nominee. Because that would get 80%+ of "white college educated females with children" voting straight ticket GOP.

But it isn't going to happen. Because she will get asked about single payer if she's in the Dem primary, and going back on support for single payer after previously supporting it nukes her base

Newsome: I hope that was sarcasm. AS Gov of CA, Newsome's had to be hard Left. Not going to sell in the rest of the country
Hochul: Being just as much of a thug as Cuomo. 2 years as Gov, and being a lockdown queen, isn't going to be a winning ticket in 2024
Beshear: Could have a chance in teh General. Don't think he'd have the slightest chance in the Primary. After 2 years of getting very little under Biden* and a D House and D Senate, followed by two years of gridlock, Progressives are NOT going to be willing to accept a "moderate"
Kelly: has to win re-election this year. Doesn't seem likely
Cooper, Polis: What have those two actually accomplished? Polis decided recently to be a bit more sane on Covid, which is good.

Anything else?

Let's look at some serious political data points.

(1) The latest Quinnipiac poll -- which normally skews left -- has Joe Biden's favorability rating at 33%. This is "Nixon just before he resigned" territory. And, this is Quinnipiac, which normally skews left. Moreover, he is underwater with every group surveyed, except for Democrats. I do not see him on the ballot in 2024.

(2) This poll didn't ask about the performance of Harris, but I note that in most polls she is rated below Joe Biden.

(3) The Democrats in Congress are rated even below Joe Biden (30% approve, 59% disapprove).

(4) Ron DeSantis might be a fine choice for a candidate in 2024, but only if his wife is in remission by this time in 2024 (and preferably in late 2023). Hitting the campaign trail while your wife is seriously ill is neither good optics nor a winning strategy.

(5) Donald Trump needs to learn how to schmooze people, and get Republican politicians to owe him personally. He needs a large block of Republican senators and Republicans in the House of Representatives who owe him. Right now his endorsements carry weight, but sitting back at Mar-a-Largo tossing endorsements around is not enough to build up IOUs. Standing alongside them and campaigning with them does. Right now I just don't see him doing enough of that and it will handicap him -- again! -- if he is reelected in 2024.

(6) This post, and the article on which it is based, is pure clickbait. Running Hillary again will bring out the same "I would climb out of my deathbed with a 103 fever and crawl five miles over broken glass to vote against Hillary" voters again.

(7) Oh, yes. Mitch McConnell. He was born in 1942, and will be 80 at this election, and 82 in 2024. He could be retired by 2024, he cold be deceased (I hope not).

So, will Trump be the 2024 nominee? The Iowa caucuses are almost 37 months away. Lots can happen to change the cold, hard, equations in that time. But let's stop assuming it will be Trump vs DeSantis to challenge Joe Biden. There's too much that has to go right to make that happen.

Re the Hildabeast, I keep thinking of Christopher Hitchens' prediction that Hillary Clinton will one day be president. I thought Trump had settled her hash once and for all, but she's like some movie villain who keeps popping back up. And apparently will keep coming back until someone cuts her head off and then drives a stake through her heart.

Do you remember the days when we were all wondering if Teddy Kennedy was going to run for President? If he took 20 lbs off, the non-Kennedy wing of the Dems began to worry.
How do you know if Hillary is going to run? She has largely kept out of the public spotlight since 2016. Will she re-appear after 2022?
In 2016, when we knew Hillary would be the Democrats' nominee, I was certain that the GOP shouldn't nominate Jeb Bush.
If the Dems nominate Hillary in 2024, that would argue in favor of the GOP nominating Trump. I would personally prefer that the GOP (my party) move in a different direction. DeSantis. Abbott. There may be others,

Trump LOVES to campaign. To get out in front of crowds that love him. Assuming the GOP candidates are going to have campaign rallies in 2022, Trump will be out there campaigning with them.

So I think you're wrong on thinking he won't do enough of that
