December 11, 2021

"Hey, Jimmy, how are ya, man?"

I'll just watch this cold and tell you what I think (because what else am I going to do at 5:20 a.m.?):

Pausing at 1:44 — Fallon prompts him to tout the infrastructure bill, and he talks about how far "behind the curve" we are. He doesn't use the phrase "Make America Great Again," but that's his pitch. He mentions 2 details of greatness to come: removing lead pipes and providing high speed internet. Just the flow of essential material into our home — water and data.

Pausing at 3:27 — Fallon prompts him to talk about "Build Back Better" — how will it help Americans with the cost of living? That made me think about inflation, but the answer was about helping people pay for childcare and providing schooling for younger children. Fallon followed up, but not about inflation, just about whether BBB could "pass the Senate before the year." I presume Fallon is working from a script and was supposed to say "before the new year" or "before the end of the year."

Pausing at 5:29 — Fallon praises Biden for being "classy" and "bringing class back to the office."

Pausing at 5:57 — Fallon asks what can be done about Covid when not everyone is getting the vaccine. Fallon himself will do anything Biden tells him to do, and "If you want me to wear red pants, I'll wear red pants." When is it not about science but about obeying orders?

Pausing at 9:26 — Prompted about his poll numbers, Biden offers optimism about the economy, then concedes, "We do have inflation." He's trying to reduce the cost of gas by increasing the supply using the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

Pausing at 10:06 — He's going to "shoot from the shoulder." He's said that before, as noted here. He's mixing up "shoot from the hip" and "straight from the shoulder."

Pausing at 12:01 — "I have enormous confidence. You're going to realize what a naive guy I am, but I really have faith at the end of the day. The American people are going to get it. They understand."

The video ends with Fallon announcing that there will be more with Biden. What have I got myself into? Here's Part 2:

Pausing at 1:16 — Biden says that he and Jill grew up middle class, so it's hard to get used to all the people in the White House waiting on them. He made a deal with people who do the food to leave them alone in the morning and let them get their own breakfast. He mentions eggs, and Jimmy expresses amazement. Jimmy: "You cook your own eggs?" Biden: "Well, I don't. Jill does." This gets a huge laugh, but I had the classic feminist reaction: That's not funny. They had chefs serving them breakfast, Biden told them to back off, because he's got a wife for that?

Pausing at 1:28 — More laughing and Biden breaks in to tell a story of "When Jill was in graduate school, which was her whole life, it seems," which sounds like a criticism of Jill for getting her education. The story is about an interview someone did with "my daughter," who said her "daddy" couldn't do much, only boil water and cook "psghetti." Again, this is bad feminism! The man just can't cook. Ha ha. So the woman must do the cooking. For decades. And by the way, what's with "my daughter"? Why not "our daughter"?!

Dr Jill comes in, fries the eggs (so they can say 'The Biden's Cook!;)
Then Dr Jill walks out of the kitchen, leaving clean up (and lunch (And dinner)) to the staff?

I mean, Seriously; Does ANYONE Believe this? Who cooked at the Naval Observatory?

"He doesn't use the phrase "Make America Great Again," but that's his pitch."

At least Dems still have to fake it. But of course, as Andrew Cuomo explained, they really think it was never that great.

"how will it help Americans with the cost of living? That made me think about inflation, but the answer was about helping people pay for childcare and providing schooling for younger children."

Which won't raise costs at all, no way.

"Fallon praises Biden for being "classy" and "bringing class back to the office.""

See, I don't mind straight-up propaganda, and "comedians" serving their political masters as good lackeys are supposed to do, but why make the BS so obvious? I guess the real comedy is in the shoveling.

"When is it not about science but about obeying orders?"

With Dems, always.

"He's trying to reduce the cost of gas by increasing the supply using the Strategic Petroleum Reserve."

Funny stuff on a comedy show.

"He's mixing up "shoot from the hip" and "straight from the shoulder.""

If Trump said it, we'd get days worth of stupidity exegesis.

"I had the classic feminist reaction: That's not funny. They had chefs serving them breakfast, Biden told them to back off, because he's got a wife for that?"

He does. Some wives even enjoy cooking for their husbands. What's really not funny is that ancient unfeminist Dems are paraded as progressive paragons. But then, progs keep their eye on the ball. Who cares if Dr. Jill cooks eggs? As longs as Joe does their bidding, no prob.

"Again, this is bad feminism! The man just can't cook. Ha ha. So the woman must do the cooking. For decades."

At some point, even feminists will realize that Dem feminism is just for show.

"When Jill was in graduate school, which was her whole life, it seems"

Weird.

There are two reasons why Jill might have seemed to be in graduate school "her whole life".

1. Jill took a really, really, long time to get through graduate school, implying she is lazy, or dumb, or doesn't need/want to get out of school and into real life.

2. Jill is really, really, young compared to Joe: the time Jill spent in graduate school was a large part of her life so far.

One is insulting and the other is creepy. Take you pick. Or take both because they aren't mutually exclusive.

Television as a medium resists serious, sustained analysis, but you'd think the print media could have caught on by now.

Removing lead pipes is a job for local and state government, not the Feds. Let Flint and Michigan pay for their problems, not Washington state. The same people who brought us Solyndra and now loaning $500M to create a solar panel factory in India. They're also getting $3B in government loan guarantees. That's $3.5B down the drain.

Democrats who study this are very worried that it will backfire, increasing expectations that won't be fulfilled by the 2022 elections. (Or maybe ever.) https://bit.ly/3yj4J5R

'...Biden claimed that he no longer looked at the polls “anymore.”

Biden claimed that he was paying attention “when they were in the mid-60s, but now that they’re in the 40s, I don’t pay attention.”'

That’s a lie on both ends of it. His ratings at the start, for example with FiveThirtyEight and Gallup, were in the 50s, not the “mid-60s” and now they’ve dipped into the 30s, with the lowest being the Quinnipiac poll at 36 percent approval.

'...Fallon didn’t question Biden on what he said, he just said he “appreciated his honesty.” “You came in hot and then you got to medium and now you’re at a low,” Fallon exclaimed, saying Biden just had to “keep his head down and keep doing the right thing.”'

Lead pipes? He’s talking about removing lead pipes from water supply lines? Already done. Theoretically. AFAIK there is no municipal or private water supplier who admits to having lead supply lines anywhere in their system. They’re occasionally found- and come as a complete surprise since all of them were previously identified and removed… About a decade ago while still working in a big box had a customer call and ask what we had to repair a lead water supply pipe. In an upscale suburban type town. I told her she needed to get off the phone with me and call her water department or a plumber. Her husband had apparently broken the supply line. She insisted we must have something. Asked her to go to her husband and verify it was a supply line and it was actually lead and not galvanized iron. She came back saying it was lead and a supply line. I reiterated she had to call a plumber or her water department. And she hung up. Told the manager to expect a complaint call and why. Did we have stuff that could repair a lead supply line? Absolutely. We’re we give anyone any advice on how to do that? Absolutely not. Liability is just way too high.

It had been over 5 years since that town had proudly announced the final removal of their last lead supply line.

No town, village, city, state, has any fully accurate map of underground utilities. NYC reportedly still has wooden supply pipes. Part of the reason far more water is pumped into the city than accounted for in billing.
