Oh! The convention. Day 3. Do you care?

What's the point of Day 3? I don't get it. They've got to get the VP nominated, so there's one order of business. Other than that, it's a line-up of speeches, notably President Obama, but also the VP guys, Biden and Kaine. I'm a little curious about whether the convention will finally get around to the substance of the job of a President — notably national security. I'm tired of the celebration of diversity and the platitudinous assurances of commitment to equality. We're watching something else on TV for now — this — but I'm recording the convention and may get around to watching a bit of it. In the meantime, please let it rip in the comments.

ADDED:
Sugar, do you know what I'm saying to you this evening?
Maybe you think I'm being a little self-centered
But I, I said I want to be all of the things you are to me
Surely, surely you can see

No, I don't care. I also didn't care last week. I am also proud of the fact that I never have sat down and watched these staged events in my 55 years on this planet. Same can be said for Hillery.

Honestly, the only part of the convention I'm listening to right now is the Phladelphia police department scanner. At this point, the big questions are 'is there going to be a riot?" and 'how much disruption of speakers by the activist delegates are going to make CNN?'.

I find it revealing that to date, no one has addressed the terrorism issue on 'national security' day, much less made any statements about what do do about it. Honestly, events are really going to determine this election, I suspect, more so than usual.

Here's my suggestion to add zest and adventure to the DNC convention. When Hillary gives her acceptance speech, I want Ahmad, the clock boy, to suddenly jump up, shout Allah Akhbar, and rush towards the podium waving his genius clock......That will get the attention of the television audience and wake up the crowd in the arena.......Th next part has to be carefully stage managed. You don't want some trigger happy, Islamophobic secret service agent shooting the poor kid. You've got to make sure that they're in on the scenario......No, the secret service agent grabs him by the arm, and Hillary says "America has nothing to fear from its children. They are our future. Suffer the children to come to me."........The agent lets Ahmad pass, and he runs up to the podium. He gives her his genius clock and says "I just want to show you that it's the right time for America to have a woman President.".......Hillary looks down benignly and gives the tyke a hug. "I will always have time for the children of America."......The crowd is moved to tears by this display of tolerance and affection. They jump to their feet and start spontaneously singing "What the world needs now is love, sweet love." Michael Brown's mother comes out of the wings and joins Ahmad and Hillary in a group hug. The convention ends with this beautiful moment........As I say the stagecraft has to be carefully managed, but handled properly it should give Hillary a huge bounce in polls. Her peeps crave moments like this.

Rhythm and Balls said...

President Obama trusts her, isn't that good enough for you Balls?

He's a politician and committed leader of his party. He has no choice but to support her.

He writes a hell of a speech. Just because he's talented enough to make the case for her that she can't make for herself doesn't mean it's good enough.

He called out and requested the resignation one of his strongest progressive legislators simply for doing sexy-time talk and dirty private photos on Twitter. Is that really a "worse" political mistake than setting up private unsecured email servers for state secrets?

He knows her up close and personal. Maybe he does know things that we don't. But I have trouble these days believing that a good public servant with credible leadership credentials can exist in such a poor campaigner as Hillary. (Or as she calls herself, NOT a "natural politician").

Hillary, and more importantly, her supporters/defenders/boosters, have been more condescending to me than most Republicans I regularly converse with about politics. They worry me, as she does, into fearing that they think that they can browbeat their opponents as Nixon did and as you say Trump does. If this is how supposed political allies treat me, then how will they treat average Americans who simply want to express an unpopular opinion? This is not a tyranny. Obama's been pretty transparent - the exact opposite of Hillary and her love of secrecy. I lack confidence that someone as unsure of her own political skills can deal with the diverse opinions of the country and how important it is to consider them fully.

You're simply going to have to give me more to go on. You're going to have to get her to become someone who learns the importance of trust, the skills to get people to gain it, and to put that into action and become a person of her word. SO far she has not done this, and seems to take trust for granted. Unless that changes, then I will vote for someone who is at least presidential enough to understand the importance of gaining and preserving and respecting people's trust.

Keep thinking you can divide and browbeat me from your country the same way you do with/to them. It is a surefire losing strategy and only convinces me that Hillary and the Hillaryites don't know how to do this job properly.

Do you think Obama would've given her such an amazing endorsement if he thought she'd be bad for the country? I don't think so. The man is principled, he will go down in history as one of our greatest presidents.

Yes, America is a great country. No doubt. But we need a course correction, not more of the same.

Well, there is someone in this thread going by the name "Unknown#1," who thinks that if she only condescends to you enough, then the course will somehow be corrected.

Me, I guess I need more to go on. I tend to not respond well to people who say, "Trust me or I will insult and browbeat and condescend to you!'

I must be very unusual in not considering entreaties of that sort to be very worthy approaches for gaining my trust.

I suppose I'm just weird that way.

Obama accuses Trump of being devisive? Is this a fucking joke?
The guy who goes over the head of the people's congress to to rule by decree, the born-in-Hawaii, raised in Indonesia, grandson of a Kenyan goat herder who lectures Americans on what their values should be, calls someone else 'devisive'? The guy who admitted that he benefited from Affirmative Action at Harvard, and lectures the Supreme Court on what he considers to be their incorrect rulings, dares open his yap about someone else being 'devisive'?

I think that at least half of his motivation was:

1. His fear of Trump, a man who went after Obama and questioned the legitimacy of his office-holding requirements with a ferocious vengeance. Obama must have taken that very personally.

2. The fact that as party-leader he has to boost the party's choice. He's a party guy; not a lot of choice in this.

He did however choose her as SOS. A checkered record, to say the least. What she did in Libya, what she advocated in Syria, what she voted for in Iraq have all turned into or would have turned into unmitigated disasters. The only bright spot was her tenacity in persuading him to go with the risky but glorious bin Laden assassination. So you have that.

Let's be objective.

And let's also stop making personal fights between such very good friends as these so personal ourselves.

Fuck yourself. No one owns me. I do what I think is right, and I don't carry anyone's water just on their say-so.

Hillary has let millions of people down in more ways than you care to hear. And you are just like her. All that fucking entitlement. No one is entitled to any vote or any support. They have to earn it.

You might be one of those chicks who regularly manipulates people into thinking their trust is deserved, no questions asked. But I know your type. And if that approach doesn't lose in November it will definitely crash and burn soon after. This is a democracy. No one is entitled to be anyone's "leader" or to demand their support for it. Fuck off and find some other sap to emotionally leech off of.

Hey..to his credit, the 1st black president didn't (unless I missed it) resort to the "high time" argument...did he? I admit I couldn't stand to listen continuously to him.

Just sprinkle on some more of that everlovin' charm of yours, Unny Baby, & then add some cinnamon & sugah, & Balls will fall right in line, he will.

Do you beat your dog & kids until they learn to be nice to you?

You really are a case, & sadly, probably far more representative of Hillary's supporters than even we here imagine in our nightmares.

Balls, just vote for Trump already. Maybe folks here will love you for it and accept you into the bosom of Althousia at long last. No longer will you be the lone liberal looking through the window longingly at these lovely conservatives in their cozy echo chamber. Join them, you've become one of them. As I said, what he hell happened to you? An irrational hatred of women in general, or just Hillary?

I think you're definitely onto something with that one.

Draw up a psychological sketch between Bernie supporters and Hillary supporters, and you will not find a more divergent set of profiles.

The Hillary people are simply born-fascists, hierarchical kiss-up kick-down authoritarian assholes who have no respect for the art of logical persuasion or trust.

The Bernie people are the exact opposite of that in every way.

These are things that I value highly, and I am not alone. There may be some "papering over" and winced lever-pulling, but there is a split - no doubt. As there's always been. And it's their side that has to lose in time since it simply doesn't work in a democracy. Not without shutting out more people than you need supporting you - as we have seen from hundreds and hundreds of Philadelphia videos of discontented protestors whom the DNC have shut out and shut up as unceremoniously as only true Stalinists can bring themselves to do.

A lot of shade thrown by commenters who voted against Obama twice. He won twice anyway. He needs to see his votes go to Clinton now in order for her to win. I'm feeling optimistic after listening to todays's proceedings.

To go green? Boy, wouldn't that be a hoot! It's already the most interesting election of my lifetime. Add Bernie in Green to the mix, & this election will make Krakatoa look like a roman candle.

I'll vote for whom I want, thank you very much. Don't you worry yourself about it. This is a free country and we get a secret ballot. I don't need your authoritarian ass following me into the booth anyway, not that you'd be allowed in. Just keep your own control-freak needs to yourself and your own lever-pulling exercises.

Maybe folks here will love you for it and accept you into the bosom of Althousia at long last.

I don't care if they do or they don't. I do know that they respect honesty, though - as do I. So at least we share that in common. But we already did. It's YOU who's different from us in that way. And it's not a good thing. It's an ugly thing.

No longer will you be the lone liberal looking through the window longingly at these lovely conservatives in their cozy echo chamber.

Lol. Methinks someone needs a hobby. Trust me, you're not talented enough in politics to make a fun hobby out of it -- let alone a decent living. Maybe read a book or watch a movie or something. Bake a cake. Go fishing. Just leave me alone, you hound dog.

Join them, you've become one of them.

I don't have to. We can respect each others' opinions without demanding conformity to them. It makes us better Americans and better citizens to each other than you are.

As I said, what he hell happened to you?

I've always valued honesty. And who are you anyway? I don't know you. How well do you think you know me? Are you some kind of stalker?

An irrational hatred of women in general, or just Hillary?

Given your stalkerish insinuations above, I don't think you're at liberty to throw in gender dynamics into this one.

Many, many female Bernie supporters who don't trust Hillary. She has this problem massively with women under 30. And then those under 40. The age of his support kept growing and creeping up and up. And people who think they're too good to earn your trust tend to become hated when they demand it. That's life. Getting pissed about it? That's entitlement.

You are making yourself look like an asinine ogress. Maybe you really are one, and don't know it. Or just think that being a woman entitles you to do that without criticism.

You will soon find however that you are wrong. And the young women agree. Are you going to get Madeline Albright to condemn them to "hell" for it?

What a pathetic thing you are. Grow up and and get a life. Do something for others. You are your own worst anti-woman advertisement. Being an asshole is a gender neutral opportunity.

Me too Readering. I'm pretty sure than the momentum from here on in will be in Democrats' favor. Democrats seem to understand what is at risk here and what can be accomplished when we work together. I have high hopes for a Democratic Presidency, Senate and House. "I think" is always a sign of a mind that takes objective evidence very seriously.

Equally effective indicators: "I am of the opinion that..."

"I do believe that..."

"What I just pulled out of my ass is the following..."

Look at how hilariously sheltered you are.

Name for me one "liberal" or "progressive" media source that you rely on for your opinion on the standing of the Democratic party.

That you agglomerate "Democrats, liberals and progressives" into one group says an awful lot.

Prove me wrong. Show me that you really aren't as ignorant as you're letting on.

Name those "liberal" and "progressive" media sources you're relying on for your information on the will of the people.

Do it. I dare you.

Happened to me... since when? How long have you known me (or convinced yourself that you've known me)? You stalker.

Hillary is a female supremacist, obsessed with her own gender. There's nothing wrong or misogynistic in calling that out.
