Why should more than 10 people show up at a Sak 'n Save at in Reno to see Sandra Fluke?

Who is this woman? Why is she a celebrity? She's read a couple of speeches prominently, in Washington D.C., where she was selected for that role by — which Democratic bigwigs? Why?! And Rush Limbaugh made fun of her elevation into the spotlight. He did it in a crude way that boosted her name recognition. That seems to be the closest thing to something that she did to achieve prominence, and I imagine that in her own mind, surrounded by those who chose her and elevated her, she may think she is an eminent person capable of drawing crowds. What a splash of cold reality to find yourself deposited — by your promoters — at a grocery store in Reno where nobody cares.

Splash of cold reality, that it is. As one tweet said, get a real job. But I hear that she is attached to a trust fund baby, so maybe she does not need a real job. It is funny how all these rich trust fund babies on the Dem side think they speak for poor women even as they make fun of Romney.

Sak 'n Save? Maybe if she had appeared with Honey Boo Boo there would have been a bigger crowd. Although for some reason I don't think the Honey Boo Boo demographic would be too concerned about contraceptives, free or not.

All the Way to Reno (You're Gonna Be A Star)

humming
all the way to Reno
you've dusted the non believers
and challenged the laws of chance
now, sweet
you were so sugar sweet
you may as well have had 'kick me'
fastened on your sleeve

you know what you are
you're gonna be a star

wing
is written on your feet
your Achilles heel
is a tendency
to dream
but you've know that from the beginning
you didn't have to go so far
you didn't have to go.

you know what you are
you're gonna be a star

you know who you are.

humming
all the way to Reno,
you've written your own directions
and whistled the rules of change

you know what you are
you're gonna be a star

Fluke might have made a better argument if she wasn't going to Duke university. People not so blessed to be able to afford to attend Georgetown dont want to hear whining about how those people can't afford birth control. Most people can't afford to send their kids to Georgetown!
So shut the hell up, Fluke you elitist twerp.

(I keep writing Duke instead of Georgetown whenever discussing Fluke for some reason, probably because it rhymes with Fluke).

Victor Erimita said...

Thus is childish, late-stage whining feminism cast aside at a time when great matters are at stake. To the Sandra Flukes, a beggared nation, impoverished and reduced, is an acceptable price to pay for free birth control pills. This is the central position of the Democratic Party: the nation is going over a fiscal cliff few can imagine, but hey! We got abortion and gay marriage. And free pills for little Sandra Fluke.

Renee said...

Most people can not afford Georgetown, which is why they take out massive loans. Loans so burdening, they can never afford to have children.

You know, that really is an effective use of Obama's campaign funds - fly Fluke from DC to Reno so she can address 10 people. They were probably standing there wondering if the buy one get one free special on Stouffer's frozen dinners was still in effect, or worrying about getting the ice cream home before it melted.

Or perhaps the sight of Fluke reminded them to toss a couple of packs of Trojans into the grocery cart.

Fluke wrote:
“I decided I was absolutely not willing to compromise the quality of my education in exchange for my health care

ANd this is why shes a spoiled brat. Remember only a few weeks ago Althouse posted the story about how parents felt guilty because they couldnt send their kids to their dream college?
Most people can't afford that, and so are in effect compromising the quality of their eductation in exchange for affordability, or convenience. She's attending her dream college, unlike many people who settle for less, and yet is then kvetching about how she can't afford incidentals like health care.
If she attended say CUNY or SUNY she would not only be able to pay for college, but could also pay for health care AND have money left over for other incidentals. it's HER choice though not to settle when it comes to her education. Which is totally fair. But if that's your choice then live with that choice. Why should we subsidize people attending IVY League colleges (or colleges that cost as much) when many people can't even afford to go to those colleges to begin with. If we're going to subsidize peoples education I'd much rather money be spent on people NOT attending Ivy League schools, which if we are to believe that IVY League schools do give you a leg up later in life, will be going on to high paying jobs that those who do have to settle for a sub par education will not get (This is not actually accurate, I'm just addressing the idea about having to "compromise the quality of education as a matter of course".

She was always a DNC operative. That was not a Congressional hearing she "testified" at, for example. It was a photo op organized by Pelosi.

I thought it interesting that one of her issues is making Catholic institutions pay for sex change operations. The first sex change clinic in the US was a Johns Hopkins, which no longer encourages the procedure. The results have been depressing with a significant number of patients trying to get it reversed later. It's a mess and so is she.

Renee said...

The free birth control issue, is aimed for women who not only never had a child but never suffered an illness as well. Children needs all sorts of medicine, and other related health items that are not covered by health insurance, or with at least a co-pay. How many senior citizens pay co-pays and deductibles.

Where did it come to thinking that contraception should be without a co-pay or deductible?

God, liberal women are dumb.

Reno is a 'working town'. Meaning most people have jobs and are concentrating on making a living. Her whining about not being able to get free birth control, in a state that has legalized prostitution, is completely non-relevant to the lives of most people.

Reno is a middle class town and people just don't give a crap about the problems of the east coast elites. Boo hoo.....birth control. War on Women....WUT??

It is also a Western town, in the sense that it still has some frontier type values of independence.

Fluke is a fool. For the rest of her life she will be known for asking for free birth control so she can get laid with little risk of pregnancy at other people's expense.

I am still having trouble understanding why the Democrats think this whole "War on Women" thing is a winning strategy. Most women I know don't think contraception is the end all and be all. They also aren't overwhelmingly pro-unlimited abortion. It is as if the Democratic Party sees women only through the lens of Planned Parenthood.

The folks who shop at that particular Sak-n-Save in North Reno do tend to overlap rather heavily with the Honey-Boo-Boo demographic, so I think the earlier commenters are right, and that would have drawn a bigger crowd. That store also has a large number of Hispanic shoppers, many of whom are most likely illegal immigrants. I don't imagine that most of the folks at the North Reno Sak-n-Save know or care who Sandra Fluke is.

Steve Austin said...

I think the part about Fluke that makes me so damn mad is the fact she's 31 years old. This is not some helpless kid even though that's what the media portrays.

For the WWII generation by age 31, they'd fought in Europe or the Pacific, started a career, got married and likely had two or three children already.

And yet the highly educated and apparently wealthy Fluke still can't figure out how to go down to the campus Walgreens and have she or her boyfriend buy some condoms.

Instead an entire Catholic University and the US taxpayers have to do it for her. Rush's sensibilities were correct here.

Renee said...

Syndey,

Read 'Dear Wendy'. It is relationship advice site, those are the women who are interested in free birth control and will vote for Obama on this issue, as well on abortion and gay marriage. Women who really want a relationship, but end up in casual hook ups and 'friends with benefits' situations. Women who openly say they love their IUDs, because they can go through their slut phases.

Sad, because all these women are educated. They should know better about the high risk of STDs and continuous partners will never lead to stability. These women either change their ways, or end up numb and inable to connect sex with love.

Does DC still allow people to take their bar exams elsewhere and then waive them in so they can practice in DC?

I don't know how things are now, but back in the '80's I recall several G-town law school grad told me they were planning on taking their bar exams in PA because it was supposedly much easier to pass than the DC exam. But their intent was to practice in DC.
