"If your spiritual life, which is a serious responsibility, and your intellectual life is a serious responsibility, why is it that if we assume you can have free decisions there..."

"... why shouldn’t you have free decisions on what you eat, drink, smoke and put into your own body?"

Ritmo--expecting like..an argument or Reason from Byro-Mary?? Won't happen Ritmo. It's more like..a blog pep rally from a semi-retarded rasslin' coach from ..Marysville (it's a male)

With freedom comes responsibility. Sadly, it appears, personal responsibility is fast becoming a concept lost on many.

FWIW: You can check out the issue positions of the Libertarian party here: http://www.lp.org/issues

If anyone's IP address needs putting up, it's J's.

Scram, troll.

Would you be willing to use the resources of government to discourage people from caring about their fellow citizens?

Governments already do a great job of discouraging people from caring about their fellow citizens.

It just isn't their announced intention.

What happened when Ayn Rand got lung cancer after decades of smoking, and found herself broke? She grabs SS and Medicare when she needed them. Healthcare programs devised by liberals. Like most if not all libertarians, Rand was hypocritical and rotten to the core.

Again, the unit known as Garage does not come equipped with fact-checking modules. Bargain-basement programming....

Fact: Ayn Rand got lung cancer, after smoking for decades.

Fact: She needed a major operation, survived it, but was never in very good health for the final 7 years of her life.

Fact: Rand was never broke in her later years, or in any danger of being broke. Her books sold well enough that people who worked for New American Library during that period have said that they helped to keep the company alive.

Fact: Leonard Peikoff, who was the sole beneficiary of Rand's will, has not needed to work a real job for years because of the royalties that keep coming in from her books.

Fact: Rand accepted Social Security and Medicare, not because she approved of either, but because she had been taxed to pay for them.

If you're going to criticize Rand, go after her on the last point. (Well, you can go after her for leaving money and copyrights to Peikoff, but that's kind of off-topic.)

eat, smoke, drink whatever you want until the tax payer has to fund your rehabilitation or funeral. This is why Ron Paul is an idiot. He takes the notion of freedom and liberty and turns it into anarchy.

Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing. However,it calls to mind Proverbs 17:28.

Before making far-flung assertions, better make sure of what you speak.
