"Democrats must be in trouble if The Daily Beast is running a headline 'White Supremacist Stampede'..."

"Nine white supremacist candidates? In the whole country? With its multi-hundred million dollar endowment, [The Southern Poverty Law Center] only could find nine candidates?"

Those chicken little rabble rousers are just about druming up money for the Southern Poverty Law Center. Morris Dees wants some more ponies for his ranch. They are shakedown artists.

It's not that many!

mariner said...

Hell, there are more than nine Black Supremacists in Congress!

Then of course there's the one in the White House.

Fen said...

The Southern Poverty Law Center is a racist organization.

Fred4Pres said...

There are nine black supremacists on the Supreme Court!

Fen said...

And the most racist demographic in America, according to FBI hate crime stats? Apes.

The SPLC exists to extract donations from small-town spinster librarians in places like Minnesota who are unfulfilled by The Utne Reader, Barbara Kingsolver, and cats.

garage mahal said...

Robert Byrd!

Eric said...

Oh, SPLC? That means only about two of the nine are genuine white supremacists.

I'm amazed people still give them money. How many decades can you rest on your laurels?

Lincolntf said...

The real "white supremacists" are the shitbags who spend every waking hour endeavoring to destroy the African-American family through eugenics. If "Marlboro" advertised to blacks as much as PP does, they'd have been sued out of business a decade ago.

traditionalguy said...

The good thing about Dee's SPLC is having a watch dog that can bark when needed.

The bad thing about Dees and his friends is that they control a watch dog that they loose on any one that displeases them.

It becomes McCarthyism in action.

deborah said...

Southern Poverty Law Center? Right. What the hell kind of name is that?

I'm Full of Soup said...

If we really want to find new "revenue" that is where I'd go by taking take big chunks out of these humongous non-profit endowments like SPLC's $200 Million. Hell they ain't using it except to clip coupons as if they were a Rockefeller.

Synova said...

And David Duke gets dragged into it.

One of the commentors over there seems unimpressed with this as an indication that "Democrats are in trouble". Maybe it doesn't mean they're in trouble, but it probably does mean something about them, none the less.

Back when I lived in California, maybe 15ish years ago, David Duke was invited to talk about affirmative action in support of the efforts at the time to get the University of California to end the policy. He got hastily un-invited when someone spilled the beans that he hadn't been invited by the people opposing affirmative action but by the supporters of affirmative action in an effort to discredit their opponents. Oops!

Heh. Maybe this belongs in the thread about public embarrassment.

In any case, my point is that the Dukes and white supremacists of the world are useful to the liberals, just so long as they can promote them without getting caught.

Eric said...

If you watchdog barks all day people start to tune it out. How many people actually read the "reports" this group puts out, and how many just roll their eyes?

The last thing I ever heard about the KKK was that the majority of its membership were undercover FBI agents.

Presumably the message we're supposed to get from this is "people with extreme political views shouldn't be allowed to run for office at all".

traditionalguy said...

Deborah...The Southern Poverty Law Center was a small volunteer group of white lawyers who provided legal counsel when uneducated Black citizens were being taken advantage of in court cases and could not find local counsel to take their cases in rural areas of Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi. They were a valuable part of the solution in the 1960s and 70s. Today they have morphed into an aristocratic attitude that sees all middle class southern whites as enemies... only the white aristocrats can befriend blacks. But no one knows why they continue their act.

Awwww Garage nice little try…funny how the SPLC doesn’t mention that the Democrats are HOMOPHOBES, because of the Westboro Baptist Church…but you try your little ploy. Hopefully get people into the trap of “proving the negative” “that I am NOT a ‘racist’”. Heck mayhap you’ll get some new phish to bite. I won’t….

For the record I WAS a member of the SPLC….when they informed me, in the Spring/Summer of 1995 that “Racists now controlled Congress” I determined that they didn’t need my “racist Republican money.”

somefeller said...

SPLC isn't helping themselves by hyping the threat of someone who hasn't been politically relevant since Lady Gaga was in elementary school.

Carol_Herman said...

Bullshit. The only candidate ever to threaten our political system, who came from Louisiana, was Huey Long. (Scared the pants off FDR. But Long was shot to death when he turned 42. Practice for Dallas?)

David Duke can run all he likes.

In 2008, I didn't vote for Obama. I didn't vote for McCain. My ballot had ten choices. Heck, even Cynthia McKinney was one of them. And, not to be forgotten, was Ralph Nader.)

Ralph Nader may yet set a record of running more often than Harold Stassen. (Hope I spelled that right.)

Obama's not going to get any competition. (Though, today, in a snapshot at Drudge, he looks skinnier and sicklier than ever.)

Will Biden be there?

You know, the way I figure things, I think Corzine stands a better shot of going as as veep, than Hillary. I don't give Biden a single chance at all.)

Why are people supposed to get their underwear in a knot over David Duke?

We're a free country! Think of all the wonderful Americans who are not running.

Lucius Septimius said...

I sorta miss Harold Stassen.

ricpic said...

Well, somebody's gotta counter Rev. Wright's boy.

traditionalguy said...

David Duke was a Louisiana style Klansman. Think Mardi Gras parades. Louisiana is not the south as much as it is a special anarchy territory. I blame the riverboats bringing strange Wisconsin/Minnesota guys down river to sell things.

The Dems don't get it that the millions of white suburban matrons have had their orgasmic moment voting for America's first black prez and now that the horror of their choice is settling in the thrill is gone. Ain't goan happen no maw.

coketown said...

I'm surprised the number is only nine. I thought the abysmal performance of Obama would bring a lot of white supremacists out of the woodwork to run for office. The political ads practically write themselves: A picture of Obama with one of his dopey grins, and the phrase "Exhibit A" superimposed over the top.

sorepaw said...

The Daily Beast article is definitely trying to associate white supremacism with the Republican Party. As in this charming passage;

Disappointed with Ron and Rand Paul and other leaders who they feel are close, but not close enough, to their views—the A3P has fielded candidates like Harry Bertram, who ran for the West Virginia board of education last fall, pulling down 14 percent of the vote. He’s now angling for governor. “My platform is conservative like the Tea Party but more racialist inclined,” Bertram says. Another A3P candidate won 11 percent of the vote in a recent run for a seat in the New Hampshire House of Representatives.

Uh huh. "Like the Tea Party but more racialist inclined."

Carol_Herman said...

Today, when juxtaposed to Chavez return in "triumph" to Valenzuela. Lots of people turned out to celebrate his cancer.

What were they supposed to do? Stay home?

Then, there was a photo of Obama. Looking thinner than ever. And, "pale," if I could use that word.

Obama certainly didn't look healthy to me.

God works in strange ways.

And, the reason Obama won had nothing to do with females having orgasms. More to do with McCain being a putz. And, dubya being a turd.

Sal said...

"But no one knows why they continue their act."

The SPLC continues its act the same reason unions, useless government agencies and other obsolete entities do. The people that work there need jobs.

It's interesting how people who purport to be so concerned about racists never actually listen to what the racists say about and for themselves.

Ah, yes, but then we're talking about the leftist revisionist history of fascism itself, aren't we, and that's a story for another day.

PS Haven't we yet relegated the SPLC to the same dust heap on which Media Matters now resides?

coketown said...

Also, it will be interesting to see when America reaching the Dutch tipping point where charges of racism are not only ignored but met with mild approval. If society is crumbling, and all measures proposed to correct it are deemed racist, eventually people will say, "Okay, great. Bring on the racist austerity budget and racist border security and the super-racist proposal to make everyone have an I.D. to vote [Actually, virtually every European country already does this]. Hooray for racism!"

garage mahal said...

PS Haven't we yet relegated the SPLC to the same dust heap on which Media Matters now resides?

Media Matters is bigger and stronger than it's ever been. What they and the SPLC report on is a target rich environment.

What's your beef with the SPLC? Without googling first!

coketown said...

Media Matters is bigger and stronger than it's ever been. Soros has been a lot more generous with his money lately, considering the resurgent GOP, Obama's political cliff-dive, and those menacing Koch brothers lurking behind every tree..

FIFY. And there's a different between "reporting" and "making shit up." At least, there used to be. We can thank Lee Fang for blurring the line.

yashu said...

Fen, the "apes" stuff undermines anything you might want to say on this subject. I agree with you politically more often than not, but I find this locution (which you've used before, and I've wanted to comment on before) needlessly offensive. At any rate *I* find it offensive, and it just makes it difficult to agree with your larger points.

That is, I think I 'd agree with you about the depth of hypocrisy on the left re racism, but you completely undermine that point by using language that appears racist on its very face.

garage mahal said...

FIFY. And there's a different between "reporting" and "making shit up."

That's why Media Matters needs an army of people watching Fox News. It's all they do is make shit up. Fox News is not even allowed to broadcast into Canada -- Canada's Radio Act requires that "a licenser may not broadcast ... any false or misleading news."

I bet Canadians are at least 10% smarter than we are just for that.

Phil 314 said...

What's your beef with the SPLC? Without googling first!

Well their qualifications for "racists" seems have decreased over the years. And frankly their publicity suggests that racism is on the rise and yet I'm struggling to compare what they declare is "on the rise" with what I saw growing up.

Black folks are riding the same buses and in the fronts, there are no separate fountains, no literacy tests at the polls, etc.

I'm as interested in their assessment of nationwide candidates as the John Birch Society's.

On right wing blogs, yes. They hate the SPLC because they track among other things, right wing hate groups. There hasn't been an actual critique on the SPLC this whole thread, besides what they receive in donations. It's the same attack angle with Media Matters. It's never critiquing anything they write, just "SOROS!"

I think you're distracted by shiny keys.

Mark Potok doesn't help them Garage...They lost me also, when a Klan group burned an African Church in my state. I called the SPLC and asked what would they do? The response, “what do you expect us to do?” I hung up. I EXPECTED them to behave as their adverts suggest they behave...to file a CIVIL action against the Klan group, in order to recover damages, “punish” the maroons. Foolish me...

The SPLC is the equivalent of the Westboro Baptist Church...a money-making scheme for its members.

Nice try Garage, yo've introduced "Faux News" now mayhap you can divert discussion onto that.

Wake me up when they go after La Raza.

rcocean said...

Yeah, I mean why give money to help starving kids in Africa or build a playground or park?

Better to give it Dees for the 2nd Rolls-Royce & to fight the 29 "White Supremacists" about to take over the country.

Michael said...

The SPLC is a fine organization that has long outlasted its usefulness to society. It has had to serve very thin soup these last twenty years, thinner still the last ten. I see Morris out and about when I am in Montgomery. It must be horrible to see the hate crimes from whites so sparse after building a business around them. But Morris did the right thing at the right time, I give him credit for that.

traditionalguy said...

What Michael said.

rcocean said...

"But Morris did the right thing at the right time, I give him credit for that."

Yes, anyone who compares race relations of today to 20 years ago can only thank Mr. Morris.

The KKK was a massive force back in 1991, along with the Neo-Nazi's. At times I was afraid fascism was around the corner.

We've come a long way since the dark days of Bill Clinton.

Joe said...

(The Uncredentialed, Crypto Jew)

Michael, the pity is that Dees can't or won't expand his audience, now I guess he can't...20 years ago the move could have been against “hate”, HOWEVER, that would have meant switching his donating audience from feel good Liberals to other folks...and a shift of target to MECHa or La Raza, not as reliably “hated” by the Masses. In short, it was too great a business risk. So, he keeps on keeping on (Note No “The Times They Are A'Changin'”), looking for evilllllll racist WHITE people to serve up so gullible, feel good saps (such as myself at one time) will continue to send the Moolah.

He can't change now. Even were he to start on La Raza I wouldn't send him a dime. Too many bridges have been burned to the Right to ever move on. So, like LTV, forced to recycle the A-7 airframe forever because they had nothing else, Morris Dees keeps trotting out the big, bad white boogie men, to keep the business going. What else is there to do?

Joe said...

(The Uncredentialed, Crypto Jew)

At times I was afraid fascism was around the corner.

Do you not remember the “rash” of Black Churches being burnt, under Clinton...and how our misty eyed, disciple of Fulbright the racist, remembered the smoke staining the skies in his youth as churches were burnt then?

How close we came to David Duke as Klansmen In Chief....

hoyden said...

I quit supporting SPLC a few years ago. SPLC turns over every stone looking for right wing hate and totally ignore the left/liberal hate. They have loads of cash and are constantly soliciting for more. SPLC is way past their sell-by date.

Wince said...

This number blew my mind when I heard it.

In October 2010, SPLC reported its endowment at $216.2 million.

sorepaw said...

Actual critique:

The SPLC used to go after the Ku Klux Klan.

They were fairly successful at that. There's barely a shred left of any Klan organization.

Whereupon, the SPLC could have declared victory and disbanded.

Instead, they've sought publicity and money by pretending to find a Klansman under every bed.

I'll bet that if the SPLC ran out of money, even George Soros would discover that he has much more pressing priorities.

sorepaw said...

Canada's Radio Act requires that "a licenser may not broadcast ... any false or misleading news."

Wow!

Not allowed to... ever... broadcast any... news that turns out to be false.

If that rule were strictly enforced, there wouldn't be a single news programs on either radio or TV in Canada.

So, has every last one of them been shut down?

Cincinnatus said...

The SPLC is an org that has been dining out on a single good case thirty years ago. They spend more time faking hatred than fighting it.

Cincinnatus said...

Mahal, I'll tell you my complaint about the SPLC, they once claimed that a pistol competition league I belonged to was a front for white supremicist militia. At the time, the president of the league was a black city fire dept captain.

The SPLC have been lying about nonexistent white supremacists for decades to keep the gravy train going.

YoungHegelian said...

Speaking of stuff the SPLC missed:

About a year ago I was listening in bed to NPR's Morning Edition and they had a story about an organization in California that came to the high schools to help out Latino youth with Latino cultural activities. The Latino folk group played a song. The name of the song: Raza de Oro!

As I lay there in bed with the sheet over my head I was wondering when the CA school system was going to invite in Resistance Records to buck up the Crackers.

The state by state list of the SPLC had "general hate" as a group category. So when does Wisconsin get another listing for general hate along with its German special groups?

Down south we have to settle for the same KKK of 10 different city's chapters. That is padding the count. It should be one "General Klan Idiots All Over" listing.

And they list anti-Muslims and anti-gays as categories of groups that need to be watched.

I suggest we nominate C-4 under the category " Mein Kampf Expostulator" . They could bring in several million dollars more on C-4 alone.

Chuck66 said...

How about anti-Christian hate?

Anti-Catholism of Minneapolis.

Hey, remember a couple of years ago when Madison city council was all set to vote to boycott companies that did business with Jews (aka Israel). Only international outcry caused them to vote no on the anti-semetic vote.

Everyone see the poll where 28% of Democrats will not vote for a Mormon.

While most democraps have no idea what David Duke represents?

I bet they wouldn't know Orville Forbus (sp?) from a whole in the wall.

Hint: He was the governor of Arkansas who tried to stop a Black little girl from being integrated into a white school.

Fair enough. My neighborhood has been destroyed by *one* instance Section 8 housing. Three groups of ghetto blacks over the course of five years. I've come to understand the "broken window" syndrome first-hand. Its more about socio-economics than race (I think). But its radicalized me. Before that, I served alongside blacks in the Marines, where skin color was as relevant as hair color. But the ones I encounter today, locally, behave like animals.

And I hate them. Hence the "apes" comments. They aren't civilized. You can't politely ask them to turn the base down at 4am without risking a gunfight. They rountinely play the "you can't look at me" bullshit. It smarter to call in the police than risk a confrontation.

But you're right. I need to check that. And I need to move.

The Republican Party kicked David Duke out of it's ranks long ago, while the Democrats made a Klansman their Majority Leader who retired as one of their partys' Elder Statesman.

Congressional Black Caucus. Formed by black folk who were sent to DC to represent their constituents of all skin colors, but they choose to join a group exclusively based on their skin color. Sounds pretty racist to me. I don't think there are any Republicans in it.

Then there's La Raza, who have chapters on college campii, that are exclusively Chicano and openly racist. More racial supremacists and separatists. They aren't known for their membership in the Republican Party.

Not to mention the radical Muslim groups on college campii as well, who call for the extermination of Jews and the destruction of Israel, who have leftwing allies in lockstep with their goals in support of actual terrorists who bomb busses and shoot thousands of rockets into civilian areas. War criminal nations that Garages comrades all willingly support. Proud Democrats, all of them.

But, somehow, Garage has no harsh words for the racists of color, as they and their money and influence are proudly courted by the Democrats and as long as they spout leftwing orthodoxy.
