"They couldn’t have been spies. Look what she did with the hydrangeas."

An emailer who understands my taste in quotes points me here.

IN THE COMMENTS: traditionalguy says:
When their blue hydrangeas turn pinko, then your neighbors are likely Russian spies.

Note that crack came from a 15-year-old; I love smart-ass teens, so long as I don't have to deal with them.

That's a typical upscale NJ picture: really old houses, now in a too-expensive-to-afford neighborhood and improved as much as possible given the lot sizes.

They were very liveable for their original middle income class.

M: And how the hell could Bond be so stupid? I give him double-O status and he celebrates by shooting up an embassy. Is the man deranged? And where the hell is he? In the old days if an agent did something that embarrassing he'd have a good sense to defect. Christ, I miss the Cold War.

Guess you and Joe the Biden have something in common ;-)

If we can prove they comitted espionage, can we execute them? I don't think we've killed any spies since Julius and Ethel and I'm thinking we are overdue to send a message.

Yet all I see in the picture is pachysandra and some tired azaleas.

If they stole/transmitted nuclear secrets, I would be for their execution.

Normal practice is for the Russians to grab some innocent bystanders, proclaim them to be American spies, and ask for a swap.

The real punishment for these turkeys will be after the swap, when they find themselves living in Russia. Even given the fall of communism and even given that their leaving New Jersey, I can pretty much guarantee that they aren't going to like it very much.

You can always establish a defense fund for your tovariches.

Amazing what hitting that reset button did eh?

Hilarious comment. I have a couple of teens. They can be hilarious. Just don't take them too seriously.

Of course, those of us in the know, know that Russian spies typically have superior horticulure skills.

Look at it this way. Now, the girls are far more babealicious than in the old days. When I was a kid (and probably you, too), they all looked as if they'd just come off a hard winter at Stalingrad.

No 'e' in gravy.

If your hydrangeas are turning pink, it is from the Ph of your soil going up--

So maybe that means your neighbors are limies? Of course lime (ground limestone) is high ph and the citrus fruit limes (the juice of which is what british sailors drank to ward off scurvy) are low ph.

Try Polydent and you'll find you can say a lot of things more often.

He also missed the 'f' in often but then I'm an idiot ;-)

As a former resident of Montclair, they probably did fit right in there. That town is so liberal they probably think Obama is a right winger. The whole town is a Sanctuary Zone for the illegals. Nice homes, nice area, terrible people. Stepford personified. Even Madison would be considered right wing by that town.

I just checked Amazon and "The Charm School" is not available, not even a link to a page for it.

Very suspicious, eh?

I like one worried comment I read: "wait... my wife's hydrangeas are doing really well."

Actually he missed the 't' not the 'f', so your comment speaks for itself. ;-)

Moscow and St. Petersburg can be very pleasant places these days, with enough money.

I guess we're both fuckin idiots then.

I feel sorry for their kids. Can you imagine how horrible it would be to think that you were just an ordinary American kid, living in the suburbs, and all of a sudden find out that your parents are actually Russian spies and everything you thought you knew about your family and your own identity was just a shining lie? It's like something out of Alfred Hitchcock or The Twilight Zone.
