On the Tumbling Rock Trail...

... I was wearing dark glasses with yellowish lenses. On the way back, I took the glasses off and suddenly all that gray-looking quartzite rock popped into technicolor. All that purple and rose with tinges of lichen green!

What a crazy thing! Taking those sunglasses off was like dropping acid.

These pictures — all done with an iPhone — were taken at Devil's Lake.

I bet that idiot the History Channel digs up that is absolutely convinced that aliens helped ancient cultures build stuff would think these rocks are a clear sign of alien influence. Look at those pyramids!!

TV is just unwatchable these days.

All this porphyritic igneous rock has interesting coloration but I see so much of it I tend to take it for granite. Apologies, I'm jaded.

Woo to the pics.

Professor, 1st you talk about your hubby as yer "old man."

Now you say taking those sunglasses off was like dropping acid.

Is all this, like, a flashback or something?

Out where I am, we're mostly tweakers, who don't remember day before yesterday, much less the '60's.

Isn't that metamorphic rock, Chip? Looks like something sedimentary that's been squeezed real hard.

A bit like Al Gore.

Well, gotta go. Lorena's cursing at me in Spanish again, and there's no tellin' where that will lead.

I just got back from surveying the damage done to our assembly plant from a direct hit from a tornado.

I stood in the office that I was working in 10 hours ago, and looked up at the sky where the roof had been.

I blame George Bush.

Apparently, he left the keys to the hurricane machine laying around in the oval office, and that idiot Biden found them.

Guess I'll go to bed and try to sleep fitfully for a few hours before going back in.

Shades always alter the appearance of things and we're always surprised how different they look when they come off.

We probably all need to do it more.

And you, a law professor.

#2 son is visiting the Madtown campus this Friday and Saturday. Business school. And this time I am ever more uncertain the money will be wisely spent, at this or any college.

Might be better to buy some guns and gold, and send him to, I don't know, Canada, Australia, or anywhere else but here and just start working.

Hell if i know what to do.

MM, I think it opened last year, though I don't think the trail system has been rebuilt. I'm actually going to try to get there, tomorrow, depending on when the Dish guy decides to show up. It's my favorite area to go to for a day trip.

If the rock is all wet, then paper will simply fall apart. Unless it's a Bounty Towel, then it's a win, win.

Is there anything as glorious as summer?

If that was true then I assume that you ended up lost, naked, and desperately hoping for the glasses back after about 8 hours.

Maybe Al Gore's mother also "threw him against a brick wall" and said he was "a little prick"?

Well, the first two outcomes are probably right, but I'd say the third would be rockin' in a Chevy van with Meade.

If it was really like dropping acid, you would still be sitting there enthralled by the rocks.

Just sayin'

Beautiful photos! Once again a KILLER jigsaw puzzle photo on the last one.
