And a light shall radiate from His left ear...

Oh. Sorry. I was just feeling nostalgic for the old "The One" days. Remember? Maybe whoever does the White House Flickr page is feeling that way too, because that image just went up. Or are we supposed to see the Prez as hard working, sleeves rolled up, serious, studious... ?

That is his very essence escaping in to the ether.

The fact that it is his LEFT ear has huge symbolic significance.

I usually roll up my sleeves to wash dishes. What's his reason?

Hasn't he heard it's casual Friday?

At least he has a fucking tie on today.

I wonder which Pakistani he's ordering be killed?

Until his eyes glow red we are only seeing the most powerful nicotine addict in the free world. It appears that he is making out his list of federal Judgeship offers, much like a College Football recruiter with only a certain number of scholarship offers he can sign to build his team for next season.

It seems like the painting *could* portray a group of Apostles looking down on the President.

Does it matter which Paki he is signing to have killed. They all fucking suck anyway. That shit hole shouldn't even exist.

He's writing a sympathy note to Scarlett Johansson because she's taking a 2+ million dollar hit on her Hollywood Hills villa. She paid $7 million; it's now on the market for $4.59 million.

He uses the floor, mashes the butts into the rug.

They probably have a quota for how many pictures they have to post on Flickr every week. I imagine someone sorts through a collection of images and says "that'll do" a lot.

Anotherlefty president? That's four out of the last five.

I'm a lefty myself. Is it:

1. proof that we are awesome, or...

2. time to mandate right-handed presidents?

How does he get any work done with that photographer constantly hanging around? Or is he used to having photographers hanging around?

Where is that dog anyway? Did they bury it with Ted Kennedy? Did Michelle and the kids get tired of walking it? Did they ever walk it? Are they having trouble finding replacement batteries?

Lance's comment is profoundly awesome. Reminds me of Sam Kinison talking about the commercials we used to see with the images of horrendously thin, grossly malnourished children in Africa.

"Maybe the film crew could give the kid a sandwich..."

Frankly, edutcher, we've come to very different conclusions about that particular Obama move. Personally, I saw it as a stroke of genius.

From the Wall Street Journal:

Republicans won just 31% of Hispanic votes in the 2008 presidential election, according to exit polls, down from more than 40% four years earlier, as the party took a hard line on immigration policy. That was a big factor in handing President Barack Obama his Electoral College victory and a seven-point win over Republican Sen. John McCain (R., Ariz.). If current demographic and voting trends continue, Hispanics' growing share of the electorate could make Republican electoral college victories a near impossibility as early as 2020.

David said...

Penny has it right. Hispanics are the fastest growing election bloc and a group that has many reasons to lean conservative in voting. Republicans are about to blow a huge opportunity (again.) Bush 43 understood that. Jeb Bush understands that (in fluent Spanish no less.) But the Republicans are going to let the wahoos take it over.

Memo to (fellow?) Republicans: an open border with Mexico is a good conservative idea. Think quest for personal liberty, quest for economic opportunity, free trade, upward mobility, expanding labor force, family values, religious beliefs, confidence in the future, love of America. Hispanics bring all these things to our nation. Why in the world would we want to keep them out?

David said, "Think quest for personal liberty, quest for economic opportunity, free trade, upward mobility, expanding labor force, family values, religious beliefs, confidence in the future, love of America. We would want to keep them out because they bring heritage of total disregard for the law, a labor force that competes with low skill Americans who should have first claim on those jobs, a demonstrated willingness to break the law (by knowingly entering the country illegally), and no interest whatsoever in integrating with Americans. Rather they, like the muzlims, are intent on "reconquista" or re-conquering the land that they thing was once theirs.

As they have invaded the US, they have brought in many diseases that we had totally eradicated here for many years. Now we are having to fight those diseases all over again.

They are a huge drain on public services such as welfare, hospital emergency rooms, schools, etc. These people usually are paying no taxes, but they are consuming vast sums of public resources that were put in place to serve Americans.

I am a native of south Texas, although I no longer live there. My home town, when I was growing up was definitely Anglo-dominated, although we had a significant mestizo population. It was an economically dynamic small city of around 100,000 people when I left to go to college. Today, 50 years later it is about 250,000 people with a strong mestizo dominance and almost no economy at all, other than taco shops and dance halls. The Anglo population is shrinking, and with it the economy is simply vanishing.

The ethos of the mestizos is entirely different from that of the European Americans that have built the US. Remember, they are only slightly Hispanic in most cases, and identify much more often with the Central American Indian culture. Bringing them in is like introducing a foreign body into the body politic. It causes an infection, just as sticking a thorn in your finger does. (Sure, go ahead and call me a racist. I'm used to it; it does not hurt. I have lived with these facts for too many years and I know them to be true.)

In brief, that is why we would want to keep them out.

What Dr.D is saying, completely tactlessly, is that American culture and Hispanic immigrant culture often have different values. And by the way, dude, there's no reason to make it an Indian thing: Spain's economy is and usually is a lumpen piece of shit.

But that doesn't matter. We should have open borders. It's part of who we are as a country. It's part of what we represent to the world and to ourselves.

However, we cannot have open borders unless we are absolutely committed to Americanization. A nation -- by definition -- can have only one culture with variations of that culture. For us, that means learning and speaking English and committing to American norms. Again, this is true of all countries. France is having a horrible immigrant problem.

Sadly, our political situation is such that Americanization cannot happen. And without a commitment to Americanization, we cannot have open immigration. It cannot work.

End of sermon.
