"Suppose you're a voter, and you've got candidate X and candidate Y. Candidate X agrees with you on everything, but you don't think that candidate can deliver on anything at all. Candidate Y you agree with on about half the issues, but he can deliver. Which candidate are you going to vote for?"
"This has nothing to do with what's going on now."
It is almost as if Bill Clinton is trying to be counter-productive for the Democrats.
They're cold-blooded, animated only by selfish desires. They fly into rage and exhibit massive xenophobia.
Their policy prescriptions are primitive; rewarding the strong and punishing the weak. They prefer war to diplomacy and are eager for conflict (might be unfair to reptiles there).
Sure, Bill leans right in his DLC ways, but not that far!
Sigh. I don't know if anyone else updated to Firefox 3.0.1 last night, but I did so expecting the Firefox/Java/Youtube bug to have been fixed.
Nothing. Still doesn't play on the front page, but it does when you click on the comments. It also plays when it redirects you to the Youtube page itself, of course.
Also note for those considering updating to the new Firefox -- if you installed "themes", those haven't been updated yet. You get stuck with the default theme, so far.
Victoria et al. After extensive research on the YouTube problems, it seems that this is a problem related to Adobe's Flash Player for Firefox. You might find that if you play video from within a post, but not from the main page things will work fine. If things get stuck, close the browser completely, reopen Althouse, click through to the comments and then try playing the video again.
"Firefox 3.0.1 last night, but I did so expecting the Firefox/Java/Youtube bug to have been fixed."
It isn't a Firefox bug.
It is a bug in the Flash plug-in for Firefox.
It won't be until Flash patches, or until you uninstall Flash and then find an older version of it (I think version 8 is the one that works), that you will get rid of the bug.
If you want serious substance, this clip isn't what you're looking for. Click on the whole diavlog, and the most substantive part is the religion segment.
Lizard people is much kinder than the words, phrases and expressions that I would have used.
On the way to lunch I heard an idea that I really dig-move Michelle Obama to New York and run her against Hillary in 2012.
Bill and Hill-payback for what you have done here is going to be such a royal c_nt, you have no idea. Not even the serpent(Carville) and his criminal serpent wife(Matalin) will be able to help you. Keep it up losers.
I downloaded some sort of Flash patch for Firefox 3.0.1, and things play, but I frequently have to click first on a Flash logo-buttony thing and then click again to play the video.
OTOH, it may be a feature and not a bug. It keeps all sort of ads and crud from loading at all unless I click on them. I can usually tells the stuff I don't want by its placement.
BTW, the bloggingheads video plays just fine on a single click for me.
I don't really remember where I got the fix, but it was probably on Flash and not Firefox.
"I downloaded some sort of Flash patch for Firefox 3.0.1, and things play, but I frequently have to click first on a Flash logo-buttony thing and then click again to play the video."
That wasn't a Flash patch. That was Flash Block. It is a great extension.
"OTOH, it may be a feature and not a bug. It keeps all sort of ads and crud from loading at all unless I click on them. I can usually tells the stuff I don't want by its placement."
That is it's feature. That is all that extension does. And it is great for doing just that.
M. Simon said... And if all you have is a carrot and the other guy has a stick you are at a disadvantage. Such a situation is referred to as appeasement.
Sort of like you can get more with a kind word and a gun.
Years ago my husband and I bought a David Icke book just to read a bit of it out loud each day. Hysterical stuff; full of howlers.
His books are full of outrageous offhand comments like, "George Bush, a pedophile and rapist, ..." or "[so and so] who, along with her mother, was raped repeatedly by Ronald Reagan..." Truly bizarre. In fact, I think Icke must have a thing about rape. According to him, everyone he doesn't like is a serial rapist.
Oh, and I'm surprised that Icke now says the Clintons are reptiles. He used to sort of like Bill Clinton, and so his theory was that Bill wasn't a reptile but was being controlled by a reptile from another dimension.
Seriously? LOL. Awesome, Freeman Hunt. I must track his books down now.
I thougth Michael Savage was bad enough -- any book which in all seriousness uses the word Hildabeast is worthy of parrot droppings receptacle -- but that sounds insane.
BTW, could never happen in the UK. Our libel laws are very strict.
The book to get is "The Biggest Secret: The Book That Will Change the World (Updated Second Edition)." Or at least that's the one we have, so I know that stuff is in that one. I should dig it out and post some quotes here...
Actually, I found it, and we have the first edition, not the second. They may be the same.
And I didn't get the George Bush quote exactly right. The one in the book is better!
"It was [George] Bush, a paedophile and serial killer, who regularly abused and raped Cathy's daughter, Kelly O'Brien, as a toddler before her mother's courageous exposure of these staggering events forced the authorities to remove Kelly from the mind control programme known as Project Monarch."
!!! Ha!
Can you believe that someone actually wrote that AND someone else actually published it?
That was from page 29. Here on page 32 is Icke's description of Bill Clinton's lizard-ness:
"Another comment the psychic lady made was that in her altered state of consciousness, Hillary Clinton appeared as a reptile while her husband, Bill Clinton the US President, was only overshadowed and controlled by one. This is interesting because my own research, and that of others has revealed Hillary Clinton to be much higher in the hierarchy than Bill, who while of a crossbreed bloodline, is a pawn in the game, to be used and discarded as necessary."
I wonder how one conducts that sort of "research"...
I can't resist. Every page is a goldmine. From page 331:
"Two former Satanists from different groups have said that [Al] Gore is addicted to drinking blood.. This makes sense because Arizona Wilder, the Brotherhood Mother Goddess who escaped from their clutches, told me how she has seen Gore at sacrifice rituals when he shape-shifted into a reptilian."
See, it makes sense because the escaped Brotherhood Mother Goddess told him so. :D
"She claims that [Robert] Byrd controls a network of mind controlled slaves and loves nothing more than to whip them mercilessly until they are close to death."
Just think if you actually believed all of these things. Government would suddenly seem so interesting and sinister. Of course, it's kind of run of the mill sinister now, but this would be sinister in a magical-mind-control-lizards sort of way.
There have been a ton of great quotes I haven't posted because they're just too raunchy.
I think she has gone a bit into trollness herself with her fantasy of trolls being grown men in their underpants furiously rolling their faces on their keyboards in an attempt to make a sad bon mot against her.
From someone who has done a fair amount of trolling around the internets, I must say she's wrong. A troll doesn't spend his on line life fuming at her, he's a perfectly normal person for 23 hours out of the day, and as a time waster/lark/hobby he will post vitriol toward his chosen subject.
Her fantasy picture of a pathetic poster is a shield for herself, but it is a false shield. It doesn't take that much energy to be an asshole on the internets and she should get over herself...
To clarify, her premise on the bloggingheads episode was, "I don't let trolls get to me anymore because I know that they are sad little men who still wear spiderman underwear and obsess constantly about me even while offline.(I quote from memory) is something that I'm sure makes her feel better about reading her troll posts, but is as irrational a position as the trolls themselves IMO.
Also, re: having more leftist trolls than righties. Again, as a troll myself, one example.
I started reading andrew sullivan just before the Iraq invasion (I was in asia at the time and he was really my only source). When he switch to attacking bush as opposed to cheerleading him when he switched because I was drawn to his blog because of his support of Bush and the War (which I supported) I felt betrayed. I sent him so many nasty emails around that time you wouldn't believe!
Betrayed I think because I had invested in his blog under a premise, that premise being we shared similar ideals.
My guess about you being attacked by more lefties than righties (and Kaus, and maybe McCardle--though I rarely ever read her blog, not because she's not interesting, but because it's all a bit too wonkish for me) is that you all had developed a reputation and fan base initially premised on your liberal traits and then when you pulled the mask off and revealed a lizard, then those readers felt betrayed and then wrote you nasty email trying to (in their mind) bring you back from the brink to where you were in danger of falling.
so...the TL;DR version, you're wrong about why you have lefty trolls, her #3 reason however was spot-on.
Revnant said, Megan has trolls that post constantly throughout the day. Some even start blogs devoted to hatred of her and update them regularly.
ah...well, she's cute I suppose and they're tugging on her pig tails to get her attention. At least were I in 2nd grade that's what I'd do to get her attention, things don't really change that much later in life I think.
Isn't it far too convenient for you to think that people who believe in government subsidized healthcare are more about "attacking heretics" and folks who favor a flat tax are some how magically inclined to "welcome converts"?
I mean, "They hate me 'cause I'm beautiful" might make a blogger feel better, but that line of thinking is a bit too pat.
Much of the blogginghead was a bit like that I think.
No offense, but Ann Althouse is miles above Megan McCardle. I know there are regular readers of Althouse who will assume I am claiming Ann is hotter than Megan, but that isn't my point. My point is that Althouse's commenters rarely attack her; they revere her. She's smart and she's funny. And she purposely makes provocative points. McCardle seems to stumble along, making incorrect missteps, making dumb insights that lead to nowhere, pushing the libertarian line even when it makes no sense, when it's illogical, when it is silly, and when it is wrong. I don't mean to offend, but Ann is far smarter than McCardle. The reason McCardle has far more negative commentators is that they are criticizing her logic. Ann doesn't get that. She gets reactions to her arguments. Reactions are different than corrections.
Ann should do an anonymous blog in the persona of a male blogger to see what the response is. It would be highly entertaining to see Althouse pretending to be male. I don't think she could pull it off for long. The arty, close-up photos of Chevy small-block V8s; the carefully-casually composed photos of empty beer can pyramids; getting misty-eyed over Cubs pitching; etc.

She's even stolen Megan's voice!

Err, okay. Not much meat on that clip bone.
Lizard people. Got it. I think my fellow lizards over at LGF might take great exception to welcoming Clinton into the fold, but hey.
And hey, did Megan lose a lot of weight or what? She looks different...
Cheers,
Victoria
I also suffer from the Firefox/Java/Youtube bug and note that a restart of Firefox helps.
How so very Microsoft!
Thoroughly enjoyed it. Do it more often.

Hey, thanks, Triangle Man. :)
It's not a big thing, but being a committed Firefoxer, it pains me when it gets all IE on my ass.

Hey, Victoria, look at us agreeing on something!
After last night, I'll take it!
Megan has had the flu.

Well aren't you just the Crawlin' Kingsnark!
Strange as it might seem, there is actual photographic proof that lizard people from outer space have mated with humans.
Phase One: A fine physique denotes reproductive fitness. Link.
Phase Two: Throughout the galaxy, a kiss on the lips says this will be something special. Link.
Phase Three: When it comes to inter-species humping, some like it rougher than others. Link.
Phase Four: Exhausted by his orgasm, a lizard person is vulnerable to his treacherous human lover, now fully impregnated with lizard jizz. Link.

No, we're clearly INBETWEEN Reptile and Repugnant. Get it straight.

Hillary Clinton Cold Blooded. Check.
Bill Clinton animated by selfish desires. Check
Robert Byrd xenophobic. Check.
Yep they are all Democrats.
Harry Truman- Korean war over diplomacy. Check.
JFK- Viet Nam war over diplomacy. Check
LBJ- Continued Viet Nam war over diplomacy. Check.
Bill Clinton- Balkan war over diplomacy. Check.
Bill Clinton- bombing Iraq over diplomacy. Check.
Not a Republican in the bunch.
Trust me - I was not looking for serious substance. Had enough of that last night when I over-indulged in blog.
What I wanted was entertainment and I found it.
Good job both. Nice dynamic. The flu becomes Megan. Or at least recovering from the flu does.
WoW Megan McCardle's "marian the librarian" look is hawt....

Just anther instance of the left not getting it.
War is diplomacy by other means - Clauzwitz.
See it works like this - if you have a carrot and a stick you can accomplish more than if you have a carrot alone.
And if all you have is a carrot and the other guy has a stick you are at a disadvantage. Such a situation is referred to as appeasement.

Agreed.
She has this Lily Tomlin playing the Operator thing going on with the mic too. Okay, you may not think phone exchange operators hawt, but I do.
Cheers,

I take it back. Megan McCardle can go Fuck herself! On her blog she devotes a whole post(!!111) to saying, "don't feed the trolls."
WTF? Who wants to read a blog without trolls sitting under the threads ready to pounce people who tread thereon?
for serious, she can go ride a seat-less bike down a bumpy path.
feed me...
