Vlogging in from Austin.

Because vlogging's the big thing now.

BONUS: Vlogging from the road, literally.

I-35, Oklahoma, tempting fate. I've got a longer one, too big to put on YouTube, where I discuss dying in a fiery wreck and speculate about whether the video evidence would survive. If only I could figure out how to edit the video from my Sony still camera on a Mac without losing the audio track! I just know this is a clip that would set off the anti-Althousianists.

1. Are the dishes on the room service tray real bone china? Look on the bottom to see the label.

2. The bedspread and bedding: Who's doing their linens? Look for the tags. Are they 100% cotton?

4. The armoire. Is it natural wood?, or did they put a glaze. There should be a furniture label.

5. What's the SPF of the sunblock you are using....??? What about the toiletries?

(The Chatrooms are buzzing with this next question )

6. Why is Althouse even staying at a Hotel, if she has family living in Austin ?????

Peace, Maxine

Astute questions, Maxine!

A "glaze"? You mean a veneer? I'm beginning to wonder about your seemingly precise expertise about things aesthetic!

Just something I've noticed: These vlogs from Austin have all tended to make your eyes look very, very blue.

Don't you know the passing lane is for passing, Ann. ;-)

I join ¶1 of Drew's comment above, too.

Yo mike!
You beat me to it.
Don't you just hate it when old people hang out on the passing lane??

Ann Althouse said...

Wait a minute. Wait a minute! Can't you see those cars I'm about to pass? And you're not seeing what I just passed. I have other video to prove it.

The right to bare arms.

Is that just a Lone Star State thing?

Never seen arms in Wisconsin.

I've been on that road and the only thing you have to worry about are speed traps and tornados (or other misc vortexes).

I want to see the completiong of an actual lane change. Can Althouse merge in the correct manner? The blinker skills, and proper executive of that maneuver...influence performance in other areas of life.

By the way, Camille Paglia has had lots to say about driving:

""Driving is the American sublime," ---Camille Paglia

"In my generation, skillful driving was taught with panache by fathers who had been steeled in the crucible of World War II. The art of driving has been lost in our era of broken marriages and single-parent families. Mothers cannot supply everything that sons need to become men. The tantrums of road rage come from infantile personalities with invertebrate identities."--Camille Paglia

The Althouse persona has never been more revealing, or more exposed, than watching her drive with "panache".

Peace, Maxine

Yeah, I've been thinking about that. You know. That. Sorry I've got to delete some comments. Including mine!

Ahh, you're getting paranoid, Ann. Besides, I saved a screen shot.

Please, Dave. Stop. My mind is going.

Do we get legs in California?

How are you updating during your drive? Wireless at rest stops again, or did you get a fast phone linkup?

Re: that: I will note that the dashboard shot in the vlog was not deleted.

Titus said...

You have pretty blue eyes. Are they real? Be honest.

Where did you stay?

dbp said...

The dashboard doesn't reveal anything alarming, but maybe I just don't get it.

The highest speed limit in Oklahoma is 75MPH. The shot is blurry, but looks clearly to be just below 80.

That is not bad, my rule of thumb is to go 9 over the posted limit or at whatever speed traffic is moving at in the fastest lane--whichever is faster.

Ann, please tell us that you always wear your seatbelt. Nothing is more important when driving.

"Linger on you pale blue eyes...."

Lou Ree surely or would that have been Warhol soi meme?

Memory so falters I find.

We have much different traffic hazards here.

Last Sunday the interstate freeway was closed for several hours because a man with a blood alcohol level in excess of .30 got on the freeway going the wrong way in a small SUV and ran head on into a Greyhound bus (one of the bus passengers had to be taken to a hospital in Flagstaff and nine went to hospitals in Winslow.) The drunk guy died at the scene after getting his engine shoved through him. A friend of mine owns a repair shop and towed the guy's vehicle to his shop, and I drove my kids to school this morning and made a detour and showed it to them-- the whole front end and most of the roof are sheered off and the engine block was shoved back into and through the front seats (I didn't get close enough or let them get close enough to see whether it's all bloody in there, I'm sure it probably is.) They are both ten, and after that we had a long talk before school this morning about drunk driving and why people should never drink and drive. I hope that if anything they see this week at all sticks, that vehicle is it.

Eli, I have an alcohol-related death in my family. It's a terrible thing. Yes, I wear my seatbelt, and, of course, I'm stone cold sober.

Ann, you made a 'guest appearance' in a picture tonight I took of my daughter :) She was terribly interested in what dada was watching on his computer...by her expression she has a healthy dose of (evil) skepticism about you however!

Oh my goodness, I just realized that Althouse has a tank top just like that black one, but in yellow. She appeared in Vlog #3 in the yellow tank top, although with a different hairdo.

I wonder how many colors of that same tank top Althouse has.

Peace, Maxine

Don't forget you have a "coffee" tag now and the top vlog was all about the coffee. And here are previous iterations of the father/mother/coffee stories lest we forget.

Wish I had known you were coming down I-35. I would have waved as we passed. I was returning home to Wichita from TX.

Where were the chirping birds?

Ann Althouse said...

The birds here in Austin are different. Aggressive!

Simon said...

Not to thread hijack, but while I'm not in Austin, I do have a vlog to phone in from Indiana (just uploaded, available on YouTube's usual schedule), if anyone's interested and/or bored enough - talking about Mass. v. EPA and why I've not said much about it, and generally tweaking the anti-Althousiana.

Hello Ann, Nice partial story about your parents and the Texas City disaster.

April 26th is the 60th anniversary of the disaster and you really should prepare an essay about the connections between that disaster, your parents, how people meet and marry, you and coffee, etc.

It would make for a nice NYTimes piece.

The birds in Texas don't chirp! Just like everyone else, they shoot first and ask questions later!!!

PS. I also did some video driving heading down the Grapevine after the Sand Diego Unified benefit concert. I knew it wasn't the safest thing to be doing and felt guilty while doing while doing it.

sonicfrog said...

OMG! Simon, I had no idea you are (were?) a Brit!

Simon said...

SonicFrog - I'm a recovering limey. ;) For better or worse, this was recorded kinda late at night, where the requirement was quiet and the appropriate mood mellow, so no opportunity to give the Rehnquist baritone affectation another college try, but you can hear that I've been here long enough that the edges have come off the consonants.
